Gladys Crawford

Graveside services for former Wewoka resident Gladys Crawford are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery with Alan Eck officiating.

Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Crawford died Monday, May 14, 2007 at Hugley Hospice center in Ft. Worth, Texas. She was born July 17, 1911 to Doc Ledbetter and Monah (Taylor) Ledbetter.

She attended Wewoka Schools and enjoyed painting, dealing in Real Estate and was of the Baptist faith.

She married Audie Crawford in Tulsa and he preceded her in death.

Her sons, Buddy and Gary Hensley, brothers, Luther, J.R. Ledbetter and Sylvan Ledbetter and sisters, Edna Colier, Helen Berry and Lillie Wilson preceded her in death.

Survivors include son, Jack Hensley of Houston; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

James Crawford

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident James L. Crawford are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the Historic Strother Chapel, located in the center of Maple Grove Cemetery.

The United States Navy will provide military honors and services will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Crawford, 81, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2007 at his home in Seminole. He was born July 12, 1926 in Ranger, Texas to Homer David "Bob" Crawford and Myrtle Lee (Hall) Crawford.

He graduated from Seminole High School in 1947 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While in the service he earned the rank of Seaman Second Class V-6 and was also honored with the Point System Medal, the Victory Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.

On Nov. 23, 1949 he married Donna Rose Smart in Henryetta and he worked as a gauger for Koch Oil Company for 34 years.

Surviving is his wife of almost 58 years, Donna, of the home; three daughters, Rose Mary Crawford of Shawnee, Jamie Lynn Clement of Colbert, Wash., and Terri Ann Hudson of Moore; one son, Keith Crawford of Seminole; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Honorary bearers for the services will be: ken Clement, Kyle Bennett, Jeff Kuhns, Lowell Lay, Keith Crawford, Clay Crawford, Kenneth Terrell, Joe Speer and Leon Penuel.

Joe Crawford

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Joe Lewis Crawford are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Earl M. Temple Memorial Chapel in Oklahoma City.

Interment is to follow at Westwood Cemetery, Wewoka, under the direction of Temple & Sons Funeral Directors, Inc., 2801 N. Kelley Ave., Oklahoma City.

Crawford, of Oklahoma City, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007 in Oklahoma City.

Roy Crawford

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Roy Marland Crawford are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at The Lords Community Church in Seminole with Jimmy and Juanita Moreland and Jeff Smith to officiate.

Interment is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Roy Marland Crawford (ordained minister) passed into the Father’s arms Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007 at Unity North Hospital in Shawnee. He was born Jan. 11, 1939 in Seymour, Texas to Ray Eugene and Nora Elizabeth (Russell) Crawford.

Roy married Cathy Ann Smith on July 10, 1973 in Seymour, Texas where he worked as a drilling operator in the oilfield.

Together they moved to Seminole in 1976, where he later worked as a welder at Independent Tank Company and retired.

Roy is a member of the Lords Community Church in Seminole.

His parents; one sister, Theda Myers; one brother, William Andrew Crawford; and one grandson, Ethan Crawford, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Ann Crawford of the home; one son, Christopher Crawford; five daughters and sons-in-law: Royal and Rich Morphis, Rowena Crawford and companion, Dennis Robertson, LaNora and Andrew Buswell, Elizabeth Crawford and Racketa Crawford, all of Seminole; 10 adopted children: Kathy and Jon Keith, Tracy Chadwick, Phil Norton, Mark Norton, Patty Goad, Wanda Carder, Kayleigh Whisenhunt, Janet Hicks, and Catrina Simpkins; and two sisters, Barbara Haynes of Deymour, Texas and Thena Richardson of Bridge Port, Texas.

Also surviving are six grandchildren: Edward Dodson, Katie Dodson, Roxanne Nunnelley, Helena Nunnelly, Hunter Morphis and Raidyn Morphis; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Casket bearers will be: Lash Blankenship, Jon Keith, Phil Norton, Edward Dodson, Micah Smith and Roy L. Smith.

Honorary bearers will be: Dennis Robertson, Roy (Spunky) Smith and J.R. Rivera.

John Creach

Funeral services for longtime Wewoka resident John Richard Creach are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel with Rev. Amanda B.P. Lockwood officiating.

Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Creach died Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at Unity North Hospital in Shawnee. He was born Jan. 27, 1930 in Holdenville to Frank and Ernestine (King) Creach.

He graduated from Wewoka High school and attended college. Later he became the manager of Nelson Furniture in Wewoka for a number of years.

Creach was a member of First United Methodist Church (Wewoka), Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and Skeet Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He served in the United States Navy on the USS Boxer during the Korean War and was among the first seamen to arrive in Korea.

His father preceded him in death.

Surviving is his mother, Audra Creach, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Chris Crenshaw

Graveside services for Chris Edward Crenshaw, grandson of longtime Wewoka residents Melvin and Claudia Nurse, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2007, at the Moore City Cemetery.

Rev. Harvey Spear will officiate.

Services will be under the direction of Bill Merritt Funeral Service of Bethany.

Crenshaw passed away Thursday, March 22, 2007 at the age of 56 after a long illness.

Chris was born in Lawton, OK to Al Edward and Doris Marie (Nurse) Crenshaw on Dec. 23, 1950.

He grew up in Moore and upon graduation from Moore High School in May 1969, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving his country at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.

Upon completion of his tour of duty in May 1975, he returned home to work in construction and ranching in Southeastern Oklahoma for many years.

Later he obtained his certification to become a Registered Barber, working in the Oklahoma City area. Later in life he worked for many years at Tyson Foods.

Chris was preceded in death by his mother Doris Marie Smith in 2004, grandparents Melvin and Claudia Nurse, Wewoka; Cecil and Mae Crenshaw, Comanche; and a brother Rob Riddell, Oklahoma City.

He is survived by his daughters, Somer de Crenshaw,Oklahoma City, and Courtney Rae Crenshaw, Henderson, Texas; son, Pvt. Christopher Crenshaw, Ft. Jackson, SC; two grandchildren, Seanah-Lisa and Colt DeWayne both of Oklahoma City; his parents, Al and Dora Ann Crenshaw, Oklahoma City; two brothers, Craig Crenshaw and wife Michelle and sons, Choctaw, and Clay Crenshaw and wife Cindy and children, Perkins; one sister, Sherry Elaine Pearce and husband Paul and sons, The Colony, Texas; loving uncle and aunt, Harold and Delores Theus, Okla. City; aunt, Peggy Tinsley, Duncan; and many cousins, friends and his special life-long friend, Linda Glidden, Moore.

Chris loved to laugh. He loved his children and his family; he loved to be outdoors and he loved animals.

He had an amazing mind and he was so gifted with his hands in creating many beautiful pieces of wooden artistry.

Chris’s passing will leave a void in all our hearts and he will always be remembered with much love by all of his family and friends.

He fought the good fight, he finished the course, he kept the faith and he has been given his Crown of Righteousness.

He now rests in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Rest in Peace Our Dearest Chris, Rest in Peace. For those who wish to remember Chris please do so by making a memorial contribution to the American Cancer Society in his name or to the charity of your choice.

Velma Crews

Graveside services for Chandler resident Velma Dee Crews are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, located near Chandler, with Pastor Ron Crews officiating.

Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Chandler.

Velma departed this life on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007 in Glenpool, at the age of 87 years. She was born on Feb. 27, 1920 in Antler, Okla.

She was the daughter of Samuel and Mary Ella (Gentry) Jackson. Velma married Marion Crews in Shawnee on May 8, 1945.

Velma was a member of the Chandler Assembly of God Church and was a homemaker.

Her parents, husband, seven brothers and three sisters preceded Velma in death.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: Ron and Gaitha Crews of Mounds, Steven and Judy Crews of Oklahoma City, and Gary and Debbie Crews of Chandler; one sister, Bessie Kidwell of Napa, Calif; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many friends.

Inez Cunningham

Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Inez Ruby Cunningham are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Rest haven Memorial Gardens.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Cunningham, 95, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007 at Seminole Estates Nursing Center. She was born July 14, 1912 in Wyandotte, Okla., to James N. and Mary (Cardwell) Cunningham.

On Nov. 21, 1929 she married Melvin Cunningham and he preceded her in death on March 1, 1998.

She was a homemaker who raised four children, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchildren.

Her parents; brothers, Everette Cunningham, Lee Cunningham, Abb Cunningham, Ebb Cunningham, and Joe Cunningham; and one sister, Ida Cunningham, also preceded her in death.

Surviving is one son, Louie Cunningham of Seminole; three daughters, EuVonne Priest of Waco, Texas, Mildred Jackson of Sand Springs, and Melvina Qualls of Waco, Texas; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom she raised.

Billie Sue Curtis

Funeral services for 67-year-old Seminole resident Billie Sue (Martin) Curtis are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God Church in Bowlegs with Rev. Wesley Martin to officiate.

Burial is to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Billie passed from this life Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007 in Seminole. She was born March 31, 1940, east of Maud in Pottawatomie County to parents, Rev. "L.G." Lois Graden Martin and Sister Eleanor (McCulloch) Martin.

Billie graduated from Saint Louis, Okla., High School and was a member of the Sasakwa Assembly of God Church, where her brother Wesley is the minister.

She worked for "Loving Care" home health care in Shawnee as a caregiver and nurse’s aid.

Billie leaves to cherish her memory two daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Doug McElroy of Gainesville, Fla., and Kellie and Rick Taylor of Seminole; six brothers, John and Neta Martin of Greenville, Texas, David Martin of Maud, Wesley and Joyce Martin of Sasakwa, Timothy and Linda Martin of Maud, L.G., Jr. and Julia of Maud and Luther Martin of Maud; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Frieda Lee Martin of Maud, Becky Duncan of Sulphur, and Cindy and Ronnie Robertson of Seminole; two grandsons, Zack Taylor and his wife Stephanie of Seminole and Adam Taylor of Stillwater; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Billie is preceded in death by her parents and by on brother, Daniel Leon Martin.
