Frances Dobbins

Frances (Wilson) Dobbins, 76-year-old former Seminole County resident, passed from this life July 7, 2007, in Humble, Texas.

She was born June 18, 1931, in Wilmer, Ala., to Alex A. Wilson and LeElla (Harper) Wilson.

Frances married Thomas Vincent Dobbins in 1956 in Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 2002.

Mrs. Dobbins earned her bachelors degree from East Central University in Ada and then her Masters Degree from Oklahoma University in Norman.

She worked as a home economics teacher for many years.

She started teaching in 1952 at Varnum for five years and then Maud Schools for five years before moving to Enid, where she taught in nearby Carrier Schools for three years before taking a job with the Oklahoma Department of Education where she served as nutrition coordinator from 1965 until 1974.

She then relocated to Pensacola, Fla., along with her husband who had been transferred with Exxon Oil Company.

In Florida, she worked for Florida Department of Citrus. Then again in 1981 Mr. Dobbins was transferred to Houston, Texas to work for Exxon.

Frances then worked for Humble, Texas, schools as the Food Service Director until she was 71 years old.

Frances was a member of the Church of Christ and was very active in the schools she worked at. She had served as a school sponsor on many occasions and was involved with the F.H.A. (Future Homemakers of America).

She leaves to cherish her memory two nieces: Sally Kelton of Oklahoma City, and Sue Bohannon and her husband Gary of Maud, as well as her special caretaker, Yolanda Edmonds of Humble, Texas.

Also surviving are great nieces and nephews: Stephanie and Aaron Corbett of Oklahoma City, Jeff Kelton of Oklahoma City, Lisa and Sean Troub of Chickasha, and Kim and Shane O’Daniel of Weatherford.

Great-great nieces and nephews who survive her are: Rennie Troub and Rory Troub of Chickasha, and Hunter O’Daniel and Luke O’Daniel of Weatherford.

Frances is also survived by a host of other family and dear friends.

Mrs. Dobbins is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas Dobbins, one brother-in-law, Homer Dobbins (2006), one sister, Mary Pate (1969) and by one nephew, Tommy Pate (1972).

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at Cummings Cemetery in Maud.

Frank Brewer will officiate the service. Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud.

Stephen A. Douglas

Graveside services for former Wewoka resident Stephen A. Douglas are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. John Lively officiating.

Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Stephen A. Douglas passed away Monday, Jan. 22, 2007 at the age of 94. He was a resident of Epworth Villa, Oklahoma City. He was born Dec. 20, 1912 in Wewoka.

Stephen A. Douglas was the son of Stephen Abraham and Pearle (Sampson) Douglas, who were early day pioneers to the Indian Territory. Mr. Douglas Sr. owned one of the first mercantile shops in Wewoka and Pearle taught English at the Emanhaka Indian School for Girls.

In addition to a 33-year career with the United States Post Office, Douglas was an avid painter of scenes of Oklahoma and the Southwest.

He served in the South Pacific during World War II and is best known for his cartoon-like drawings depicting Army life on the envelopes mailed to his first wife, Carolyn, at home.

This collection is now part of the historical museum of the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.

On Dec. 28, 1972 he married Pauline Platt in McAlester.

This gentleman will be missed greatly by his family and many friends.

Mr. Douglas is survived by his wife, Pauline Platt Douglas, of the home; three children, Stephen A. Douglas Jr. and wife Elise of Cooper, Texas, Dianne Douglas of Ruston, La. and Mary Douglas Field of Hamilton, Bermuda and three grandchildren, Christopher L. Douglas of Kilgore, Neb., Gregory W. Douglas of Deerfield Beach, Fla. and Timothy M. Douglas of Cooper, Texas.

His brother, Claude L. Douglas and two sisters, Helen Lawson and June Peebles of Wewoka preceded him in death.

Donna Douthit

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident, Donna Lee Douthit, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson Church of God in Shawnee with Rev. Charles Higgins officiating.

Interment is to follow at Vamoosa Cemetery, Konawa, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Donna passed away in Earlsboro, at the age of 71. She was born on June 19, 1935 to Troy D. and Evelyn (Massey) Adams in Seminole.

She was an Avon representative and a homemaker. She also did volunteer work for the Seminole Housing Authority. She attended the Johnson Church of God in Shawnee.

On Dec. 14, 1950 she married Monroe V. Lee in Ft. Smith, Ark.

Her parents; husband, Monroe V. Lee, on Oct. 5, 1982; two sons, Virgil Lee and Troy Lee and two brothers, Bill Adams and Melvin Adams, preceded her in death.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Faye Sipes of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Georgia and Tom Herron of Earlsboro and Mona and Terry Dixon of Seminole; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Lee of Tulsa; three brothers, Charles Adams of Spavinaw, Okla., Calvin Adams of Kansas, Okla., and Gary Adams of Mannford, Okla., and one sister June Ussery of Tulsa.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Walter Downey

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Walter Maxwell Downey are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jess Powers officiating.

Interment will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Walter Maxwell Downey passed away on Friday, May 18, 2007 at the age of 92. He was born on May 31, 1914 in Tyrone, Mo. to Suemma Josephine (Aldridge) Downey.

He married Helen Zenith Downey on July 23, 1934 in Seminole; she preceded him in death on Dec. 13, 2003.

He worked for Consumer’s Gas Station as an attendant for many years, drove a taxicab, and was a gasoline truck driver for many years,

He loved his senior citizens activities and dances, as well as having lunch with his friends at the Heritage House.

His parents, wife, brothers: Edmond Arlo Downey and Delbert Fulk, and grandson, Kirby Lee Little preceded him in death.

He is survived by four sons, Walter Dale Downey of Seminole, Barnett Eugene Downey of Sherman, Texas, William Keith Downey of Crane, Texas and Kenneth Ray Downey of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Joyce Darlene Burnett of Seminole, La Wana Sue Holder of Oklahoma City, and Sharon Kay Baker of New Braunsfels, Texas; one brother, Bob Fulk of Missouri; two sisters, Lavaun Lay and Zella Mackey, both of Missouri; and close companion, Vivian Haffner of Seminole.

He is also survived by 27 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren as well as a host of other family and friends.

James Doyle

Funeral services for Holdenville resident, James K. Doyle are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at High Springs Baptist Church, Okemah.

Interment is top follow at Highland Cemetery in Okemah.

Rev. Jimmy Alexander and Rev. Frank Moppin are to officiate with services under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville.

Doyle, 40, died on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007 in Holdenville. He was born on July 23, 1967 in Claremore to George and Nora Doyle.

He was raised in Tulsa and graduated from Coweta High School in 1985. Doyle attended Rogers State College for three years, where he majored in criminology.

Doyle trained in Green Bay, Wis., and was an avid kick boxer. He was a member of Snake Creek Baptist Church in Bixby.

On March 20, 2004 he married Bobbie Jean Powell in Bixby and worked as a security officer for Holiday Inn and as a police officer for the Lighthorsemen and the City of Beggs.

Doyle also served the City of Broken Arrow as a reserve officer.

The couple recently moved their family to Holdenville and began to start a new chapter in their lives.

Surviving is his wife of the home; sons, Steven Ray Doyle and Matthew Wayne Doyle, both of Holdenville; daughter, Suzanne Renee Doyle of Cleveland, Okla.; parents, George and Pauline Doyle of Wewoka; brother, Michael McChristian; and sister, Mary Sue Horner.

Pallbearers will be: Chris Powell, O.C. Powell, Danny Wind, Richard Fixico, Stan Johnson, and Walter Factor.

Honorary bearers will be Charles Carey, Pastor Ray Samuel, Bill Alexander, Pastor Rex Shrum and Keno Shrum.

Jay Smyth Drewry

Funeral services for Maud native Jay Smyth Drewry are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers in Lafayette, La.

Rev. Perry Sanders, Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church will officiate at the services and will be assisted by Rev. Steve Horn, Pastor of First Baptist Church.

Interment will take place in Greenlawn Cemetery in Lafayette under the direction of Delhomme Funeral Home.

Drewry, 81, passed away on Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 at Lafayette General Medical Center. He was born the son of the late W.P. Drewry and the former Mary Floye Smyth.

He was a Mason with Hope Lodge. Mr. Drewry was a member of the "Over the Hill Gang" which met regularly at Mel’s Diner. He retired from Southern Flow Measurements after 25 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael David Drewry; one sister; and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Leeta Moreland Drewry; one son, Rick J. Drewry and wife, Shotsie; one daughter-in-law, Sandy Drewry; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; four sisters, and two brothers.

Visiting hours will be observed on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will continue on Thursday, from 11 a.m. until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be Troy Drewry, Eric Drewry, Tony Delcambre, Aaron Delcambre, Tex Green and Randy Kenerson.

Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School Class and the Oilfield Gang.

Memorial contributions can be made in the name of Jay Smyth Drewry to Vision 71, Bldg. Program of First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 3888, Lafayette, LA 70502.

Otis Drewry

Funeral services and burial for former Seminole resident Otis Drewry are scheduled for Tuesday at Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home in Hayward, Calif.

Drewry, 89 of Hayward, Calif., died Thursday, July 5, 2007 in California. He was born in October 1917 in Maud to W.P. and Mary (Floy) Drewry.

In 1938 he married Willie Smith in Seminole County and was retired from the City of Oakland, Calif.

His parents, wife, three brothers, two sisters and one great-great grandson preceded him in death.

Surviving are two daughters; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lorene Chandler, Louise Smith and Mary Williams, all of Seminole and one brother, Brice Drewry of California.
