Funeral services for Seminole resident Patrick H. "Pat" Harris Sr. are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment with military honors will follow at 3 p.m. in Del City at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Mr. Harris, 76, passed from this life Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at Solara Hospital in Shawnee. He was born Aug. 4, 1930 in Oklahoma City to parents, Fred Carl Harris and Clara E. (Cordonnier) Harris.
Mr. Harris served in the United States Army as an "Army Medic" serving with the Medical Company 15th Infantry Regiment until his honorable discharge March 23, 1954.
On May 14, 1950, Mr. Harris was united in marriage to Retha "Aldean" Phillips, in Oklahoma City.
Mr. Harris worked as a construction superintendent, over seeing the construction of the United Founders Tower and The Regency Tower. He had worked for several construction companies including B&G Construction and Robert J. Harris Construction Company until his retirement in 1981.
Following his retirement he moved his family to Seminole, where he was currently a member of Highway Baptist Church.
His parents, one grandson, Michael Harris, Jr. (who died in 1990), five sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 57 years, Aldean Harris of the home; five sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick Harris, Jr. and his wife Robyn, Michael Harris and his wife Teri and Russell Harris, all of Seminole, Dr. Dennis Harris and his wife Gay of Oklahoma City and Scott Harris and his fiancé’ Melinda Mesa of Victoria, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and David Russell of Seminole; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Waldo and Ann Harris of Green Acres, Fla., and William and Betty Harris of Midwest City and sister-in-law (wife’s sister), Isabel Liles of Oklahoma City.
In addition, 17 grandchildren; Pat Harris III, Esan Harris, Adam Harris, Travis Harris, Trevor Harris, Trent Harris, Jennifer Merrell, Michelle Glenn, Melissa Harris, Cynthia Elizares, Brenae Russell, Lori Russell, Olivia Harris, Joshua Harris, Marcus Harris, Chuck Tipton and Yavette Henshaw and 17 great-grandchildren also survive him.
Casket bearers will be Pat Harris, Jr., Michael Harris, Russell Harris, Dennis Harris, Scott Harris and David Russell. Honorary bearers will be Mr. Harris’s grandsons.
John Harris
Graveside services for longtime Sasakwa resident, John Burton "Lucky" Harris are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Vamoosa Cemetery with Bro. Lee Wayne Fowler and Bro. Bill Chesser officiating.
Services are under the direction of Stout-Philips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Harris, 63, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007 at Ballard Nursing Home in Ada. He was born Oct. 7, 1943 in Wewoka to Bert and Essie (Cunningham) Harris.
On Oct. 1, 1970 he married Edna Faye Cooper in Fayetteville, Ark., and they had been married for 36 years before his passing.
He had worked for many years in the oil field industry for Tom McQueen and has served as a dump truck driver for Dolese.
In 2005 he retired after serving as an equipment operator for the Seminole County District #1.
He also served as a Commander for the American Legion Post #284 in Sasakwa and as the District 4-B Executive Commander fro the American Legion.
Harris served in the National Guard as well as Mayor, Fire Chief and Water Superintendent for the Town of Sasakwa.
He was well known in the Sasakwa community and was always willing to lend a helping hand when he could.
His parents preceded him n death.
Surviving is his wife of the home; two children, Felicia Kay Beele of Holdenville and Clarissa "Jackie" Mustain of Sasakwa; brother, Podge Harris of Sasakwa; sister, Patsy of Gilliam, Ark.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the services will be the Seminole County District #1 and the Sasakwa Volunteer Fire Department.
Honorary bearers will be: Wayne Crabtree, Nick Harlan, Darrell White, Johnny White, Mitchell Cargill and Gene Wayne Choate.
Gary Harrison
A memorial service for former Wewoka resident Gary Wayne Harrison will be held at a later date and announced by the family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Harrison, 57, died Monday, May 28, 2007 at his residence in Tecumseh. He was born Jan. 15, 1950 in Talihina to Jack Harrison and Frances (Pope) Harrison.
He was a heavy equipment operator for numerous construction sites and was a member of the Shawnee Honor Guard.
Surviving is his son, Gary Wayne Harrison, Jr.; daughter, Nashoba Harrison of Seminole; brothers, Alvin Harrison of Wewoka, Eugene John Harrison, Mark Harrison, Earl Harrison, Roger Harrison and Jerry Harrison, all of the Wewoka-Seminole area, and sister, Connie Jones, also of the Wewoka/Seminole area.
Jerry Harrod
Funeral services for longtime Wewoka resident Jerry Harrod were held yesterday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Wewoka.
Services were under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Lula Geraldine "Jerry" (Isley) Harrod died Saturday, April 14, 2007 at her home at the age of 88. She was born in Woburn, Ill., on March 28, 1919 to Lesley Verne Isley and Bess Marie Bone Isley.
She was a 1934 graduate of Wewoka High School and had married James D. Harrod in Wewoka in February of 1945. Harrod also attended Tulsa Business School and Seminole State College.
Harrod was a very active member of the community, participating in American Legion Auxiliary, garden clubs, Seminole Nation Museum, First Baptist Church and the church’s nursery.
Her parents, husband (Aug. 8, 2005), and one grandson, Blake Tucker, preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Mike Harrod; two daughters, Lisa Tucker and Leslie Scott; one sister, Julia Weaver; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the services were: Guy Tucker, Richard Ammon, Heath Tucker, Christian Veal, Mark Weaver, Mitch Weaver and Bill Weaver.
Honorary bearers were: Michael Weaver, John Weaver, Calvin Tiffie, Allan Scott and Jeff Chandler.
Ruth Hart
Funeral services for longtime former Konawa resident Ruth Lowan (Cowsert) Hutchins Hart are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Konawa with Pastor Johnny Stephens officiating.
Burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.
Lowan Hart passed away on Monday, Sept. 3, 2007 at Colonial Estates Nursing Home in Shawnee at the age of 81. She was born Dec. 6, 1925 in Konawa to Lyman Elbert and Emma Evaline (Key) Cowsert.
She graduated from Konawa High School and was the Salutatorian of her class in 1943. She held a close bond with her classmates meeting with them at every school reunion until this year, due to her poor health.
After graduation Lowan worked at the Dixie Store, Roy Stephes Garage as a bookkeeper, Oklahoma Natural Gas Company for five years as a bookkeeper and teller, Oklahoma State Bank in Konawa as a teller and as a bookkeeper at the Quality Materials rock quarry west of Sasakwa.
In 1967 she went to work as a teller at First National Bank in Konawa and retired from there in 1988. At that time she stated "For 60 years a member of the Cowsert family has been on Broadway in Konawa serving the public."
Her father, Lyman, had had a furniture store and was a barber in Konawa until just prior to his death in 1961.
Lowan met her first husband, Edgar Carl Hutchins while working at Oklahoma Natural Gas and they were married in the home of her parents on June 9, 1950.
To this union, one son, Edgar Carl "Ed" Hutchins, Jr. was born. Carl preceded her in death in 1973.
She later married James E. Hart in February 1983 in Tecumseh. She and James moved to Shawnee prior to her retirement in 1988. Except for a short period where she and James moved back to Konawa, she spent the remainder of her life after retirement in Shawnee.
Lowan was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Konawa for over 50 years and considered it her church home even after she moved to Shawnee.
She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for almost 50 years and greatly enjoyed her work in that organization and the women associated with it.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two brothers, William and John Cowsert; two sisters, Florence Disch and Mary Lou Scoggins and four infant brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Denise Hutchins of Shawnee; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Morgan and her husband Matthew, Christina Payne and her husband Ryan and Nick Hutchins; three great-grandchildren, Anna and Madison Terrell and Luke Morgan; one sister, Annie Mae Biege and her husband John; brother-in-law, Newton Scoggins; sister-in-law, RosaLee Cowsert and several nieces and nephews.
Jamez Haywood
A memorial service for the great-grandson of Ernest Stillwell Sr. has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Charles Perkins officiating.
Jamez Derrick Haywood died April 17, 2006. He was born Feb. 8, 2006 in Kentucky to LeVonn and Vanessa Haywood.
J.T. Heard
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident J.T. Heard are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rick Hudson officiating.
Interment is to follow at Lone Dove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Heard, 84 of Konawa, died Thursday, May 31, 2007 at Unity North Hospital in Shawnee. He was born Jan. 1, 1023 in Seymour, Texas to James Tillman Heard and Ruby (Walling) Heard.
He was a rancher and member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughter, Stacey Heard of Hinton; one brother, Ivan Heard of Del City; two sisters, Mae Mullins of Konawa and Polly Hill of Ada; one grandchild and tqo great-grandchildren.
Honorary bearers will be Tony Kuestersteffen, Donnie Hill, Bill Raines, Stanley Johnson, Bud Moore, Joe Peeper, Lee Bowlen, Chuck Lancaster and Roger Lancaster.
Janna Heard
Memorial services for Sasakwa resident Janna Marie Heard were held Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at 1:30 p.m., at Lillye Chapel, at Fisher Funeral Home in Holdenville.
Services were under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.
Heard died at her home in Sasakwa on Saturday, June 16, 2007, at the age of 74.
She was born to Roy Bible and Luelia Alberta (Satterlee) Bible in Holdenville, on Jan. 26, 1933.
She was raised in Sasakwa and attended New Model Schools.
She married Ozell Heard in Ada on March 6, 1954. Ozell Heard preceded her in death in February 1989.
Janna Heard lived for more than 50 years within a two-mile square in the New Model Community. She did bead work, drawing, and took care of her family.
Besides her husband, Heard was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael, in November 1988; and two brothers, Leroy Bible and Floyd Bible.
She is survived by her sons Terry Heard and Nicky Heard, both of Sasakwa; three brothers, Jack Bible of Wewoka, Wayne Bible of Sasakwa, and Billy Bible of Sasakwa; three grandsons and one great-grandson.
Rudolph Heard
Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Rudolph "Doc" Heard are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Lone Dove Cemetery, located west of Wewoka, with Mike McCauley officiating.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Heard, 75, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007 at his home. He was born Feb. 7,1931 in Sasakwa to Tillman and Elsie (Cooley) Heard.
He served in the United States Army and was a roustabout in the oilfield.
Surviving is his son, Terry Heard of Wewoka; one daughter, Sherry Dougan of Konawa; two brothers, J.T. Heard of Wolf and Ivan Heard of Del City; two sisters, Mae Mullins of Konawa and Polly Hill of Pickett, Okla.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
