Richard Jackson

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Richard Allen Jackson, Sr., are scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday at the Historic Strothers Chapel located in Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole. Rev. Kelly Sampson will officiate the service.

Interment will follow with military honors at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Jackson, 69 of Miami, Okla., died Wednesday, June 13, 2007. He was born May 19, 1938 in Santa Cruz, Calif., to Lester Edward Jackson and Pearl Mildred (Harbison) Jackson.

On May 30, 1962 he married Theresa Yvonne Cowan. He served in the United States Air Force enlisting in 1961, and then enlisted in the United States Army retiring in May of 1998.

During his service he earned the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Award. He later received the Army Good Conduct Medal, Markmans (rifle) Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

When Jackson retired from the Army he had earned the rank of Sergeant First Class (E7).

He lived in Oklahoma where he received his Masters in education and was an educator for many years. He was a member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Racine, Mo.

Jackson was also a member of the V.F.W. where he had served as a service officer. He was also active in the jail and prison ministries.

His biological father, Lester Edward Jackson; his mother, Pearl Mildred (Harbison) Jackson-Buchanan and his father who raised him, James Samuel Buchanan preceded him in death.

Also preceding him in death is one son, Richard Allen Jackson, Jr., and two granddaughters.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa (Cowan) Jackson of the home; four daughters, Terri Gilker of Elberta, Ala., Veronica Vazquez of Miami, Okla., Tammy Campbell of Silverhill, Ala., and Melody Lamb of Miami, Okla.; three brothers, Gerald Gable of Las Vegas, Nev., Raymond Buchanan of Oklahoma City and Alvin Buchanan of Oklahoma City; one sister, Wanda June Rolfes of Florissant, Mo.; 17 grandchildren, five great grandchildren.

Casket bearers will be: Heath Barnes, Derrick Barnes, Jaime Vazquez, Charles Lamb III, Darrell Cambell and Darrell Jones, Jr.

Charley James

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Charley James are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Seminole.

Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole with military honors.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

James, 81, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007 at his home. He was born Sept. 25, 1925 in Seminole to parents, McKinley "Sonny" James and Willie Lee (Moore) James.

He attended Booker T. Washington School in Seminole and went on to join the United States Army.

On Nov. 2, 1943 he married Lertie V. (Mitchell) James in Seminole; she preceded him in death March 25, 1998.

James worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Seminole and in 1971 he had worked his way up to a lineman for the company.

He retired April 1, 1979 after 30 years with Southwestern Bell. Following his retirement from Southwestern Bell he installed phone jacks in homes.

And on April 1, 1949 he started as a janitor with his own company, Charley James Janitorial, and worked as such for many years.

James was a member of the Church of The Living God. He was also active in other community activities working with the local Boy Scouts, driving a school bus and even running for city council.

He was also a member of the Seminole American Legion Post #204, and also operated, "Charley James Fireworks Stand" for many years.

Surviving is one daughter, Charlesetta (James) Richardson of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Spencer James and Arnold James; two grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Lois Jenkins

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Lois Velma (Sapp) Jenkins are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ, Little, with Rusty Dawson officiating.

Interment is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Lois passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2007 at the Heritage Villa Nursing Center in Bartlesville at the age of 94. She was born April 25, 1913 in Warner, Okla., to John C. and Nora (McDaniel) Sapp.

On March 21, 1931 she married Alva E. Jenkins in Seminole and he preceded her in death in 1973.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Adams Boulevard Church of Christ in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She became a Christian and was baptized in the Church of Christ in 1933.

Her parents; husband, Alva E. Jenkins; four sisters, Hazel Fleming, Thelma Barnes, Irene Wills and Rosine Musgrave and two grandchildren, Kathy Magnauck and Don Dixon preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Benny R. and Kay Jenkins of Broken Arrow; three daughters and son-in-law, Maxine Jenkins of Elizabeth, W.V., Faye Wozniak of Oklahoma City, and Shirley and Curtis Ballew of Bartlesville; one brother, Earl Sapp of Tulsa and one sister, Gladys Kennedy of California.

Twelve grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren also survive her.

Billy Johns

Memorial services for former Seminole resident Billy J. Johns are being planned for a later date.

Mr. Johns passed away Thursday, March 8, 2007 at the home of his brother, Calvin R. Johns, after a long illness.

He was born April 13, 1933 in Oklmulgee to Calvin and Hattie Johns and he attended Ebenezer Baptist Church of Seminole.

He attended Booker T. Washington High School in Seminole following, which he matriculated at Tennessee State University and earned his B.S. degree and was a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity.

Following this he studied at Pratt Institute of Art in New York City, N.Y.

He is survived by his brother, Calvin Johns M.D. (Barbara); nephews, Dennis, Calvin III, Jacques, Mark, Clark (Elna); nieces, Janice (Steven) and Charisse; grandnieces and nephews, Annette, Marquita, Jacques Jr., Clark Jr., Ashley and Wynter.

Betty Johnson

Longtime Seminole resident Betty "Lulu" Johnson passed away on July 8, 2007, at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 72.

She was born on Jan. 10, 1935, in Little Rock, Ark., to Sylvester and Opal (Loftis) Howard.

She married Dallas Johnson in Seminole in 1974. She was a cook in Seminole for many years before retiring.

She is survived by her husband Dallas Johnson of the home; daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Johnny Wheeler of Konawa; three grandchildren, Stacy Walker and her spouse Steve Willis of Konawa, Ronnie Walker and spouse Genny of Ardmore, and Angela Wheeler and spouse Terrance of Ada; four brothers: Harley Howard of Seminole, Jimmy Howard of Seminole, Kenneth Howard of Seminole, and Rick Howard of Shawnee; two sisters: Sylvia Graves of Perry and Gail Anderson of Norman.

She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Dakota, Dustin and Dalton Walker, Kayla and Sammy Walker and Trevon and Brianna Wheeler.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, David Stanley Hill; and one brother, Curtis Howard.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at Little Cemetery with Bruce Benson and Nita Morland officiating.

Pallbearers will be: Ronnie Walker, Dustin Walker, Johnny Wheeler, Steve Willis, Dakota Walker and Manuel Rivas.

Services will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, 100 W. Strother, Seminole, Oklahoma 74868.

Flora Johnson

A memorial service for Seminole resident Flora "Flo" (Scott) Johnson is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home with Dan Factor officiating.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Johnson, 67, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007 in Norman, She was born Dec. 21, 1939 in Scott, Ark., to Walter and Ruth (Lackie) Scott.

She has been a resident for the past 15 years and worked in the healthcare field as a caregiver in Coalgate, Okla., and was a member of Akasvmkv (Faith) Baptist Church of Wewoka.

Her parents; husband, Robert Duncan; two sons, Alan and David Butler; and brother, Clarence Scott, preceded her in death.

Surviving is one son, Jeffrey Lee Butler of Seminole; two daughters, Carolyn Pitts of Cabot, Ark., and Sheila Ashford of Seminole and three sisters, Judy and Ruby Scott, and Bettye Krzewinski, all of Lonoke, Ark.

Lewis Johnson Sr.

Funeral services for Holdenville resident, Lewis Wallace Johnson Sr., are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Middle Creek #2 Baptist Church with Rev. George Harjochee officiating.

Burial is to follow at Middle Creek #2 Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville.

Johnson died Thursday, March 8, 2007 in Midwest City at the age of 68. He was born April 30, 1938 in Holdenville to Dave Walker and Helen Helms.

He remained a Holdenville resident all of his life and was a member of Tookparfka Baptist Church.

On March 7, 1960 he married Elouise Beaver in Sulphur. He worked on the pipeline and was a member of their local union.

On son, Curtis Johnson and one sister, Bonnie Mae Harjo, preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife of the home; children, Wallace Johnson Jr., Mary Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Connie Harper, Janice Birdcreek, Charlotte Johnson and Christopher Johnson; brother, Alfred Walker; sister, Irene Bailey; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers for the services will be T. Ray Bighead, JD Smallwood, Terry Smallwood, Sam Beaver, Robin Beaver and George Franks.

Lucille Johnson

Funeral services for Lucille Johnson will be 1 p.m. Monday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Lester Tim and Rev. Charles Craig officiating and burial to follow at the Harjo Family Cemetery.

Wake services will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Lucille went to be with our Heavenly Father on Aug. 31, 2007 at the age of 72. She was born July 5, 1935 in Wewoka to William (Bill) and Bessie-Ceasar Harjo.

Lucille worked at Big Yank Corporation for many years and moved on to be a Home Health Provider where she later retired.

She was a very active church member and highly respected among her family and friends.

Lucille married Sam Johnson on Nov. 19, 1954. She loved gospel singings and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, J.R. Williams.

Beloved survivors include her husband Sam Johnson and their children Linda Ellis and husband Russell, Carolyn Williams, Ronald (Sonny) Johnson and wife Ramona, Eddie Johnson and wife Brenda, Mark Johnson and Terri Haney, Charles (Chuck) Johnson and wife Christie, Temena Downey and husband Robert; grandchildren Denea White, Andrea Ellis, Dana Barriga, Ronalda Williams, Kenneth Williams, Michael Melton, Shannon Johnson, Robert Johnson, Jeremy Johnson, Nathaniel Johnson and their mother Teresa Johnson, Cheri Johnson and Angela Marshall; great-grandchildren Troyce, Hannah, Ramey, Elias, Joshua, Caleb, Sommer, Albert Jr., Courageous, Hayden, Jace, Jonathan, Libby, Alyssa, Tanner, Makayla, and Sydney; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her sons Sonny Johnson, Eddie Johnson, Mark Johnson and Chuck Johnson.

Willard B. Johnson

Graveside services for longtime Seminole County resident Willard B. Johnson were scheduled for 10 a.m. today, Sept. 4, 2007, at the Earlsboro Cemetery in Earlsboro.

Services were under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Johnson died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, in the Norman Regional Hospital, at the age of 60.

Johnson was born in the Earlsboro area on Jan. 5, 1947, to Frank W. Johnson and Dolly M. (Hamilton) Johnson.

He worked in construction and raised cattle.

Johnson was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Alvino Johnson; and a brother.

He is survived by his companion Wilma Gaines; two sons, Willard Johnson Jr. and Rodrick B. Johnson, both of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Marquita Johnson; three sisters Frances Jean Norman of Earlsboro, Barbara Warrior or Kansas City, Mo., and Betty Sample of Earlsboro; two brothers, Frank D. Johnson of Tecumseh and Emmanuel L. Johnson of Earlsboro; and three grandchildren.
