Memorial services for longtime Konawa resident Barbara Ann (Stokes) Johnsten are to be held in April 2008.
Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.
Johnsten died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007 at Boyce Manor Nursing Home in Holdenville, at the age of 72. She was born April 1, 1935 in Konawa to James Daniel and Elvy Mae (Potter) Stokes.
On Feb. 14, 1981 she married Raymond "Ray" Carl Johnsten in Bakersfield, Calif. They moved to Konawa from Wofford Heights, Calif., in 1983.
She was a member of the Church of Christ and had worked as a cashier, home health aid and seamstress, for several years.
Her husband (Sept. 20, 1989); her parents; one son, Carl Richard "Butch" Hollis; two grandsons; and three brothers, Hubert, Clarence and Pete Stokes, preceded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters: Marjorie Maxwell of Konawa, Shirley Hollis of Konawa, and Pat Colvin of Casper, Wyo.; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Cleopatra Johnston
Funeral services for longtime Konawa resident Cleopatra (Franklin) Johnston are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Konawa Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.
Johnston, 95, died on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Granbury Care Center in Granbury, Texas. She was born April 11, 1912 in Comanche, Texas to Charles Sledge Franklin and Cleopatra (Isom) Franklin.
She married Otis Sidney Johnston on Oct. 19, 1929 in Pauls Valley, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 1987. They were married for over 58 years and raised four children.
Johnston was a resident of Konawa from 1954-2001, when she was no longer able to be in her own home due to health problems.
She was a pastor’s wife and served beside her husband for many years at a number of Pentecostal Holiness Churches in Oklahoma. Johnston was a friend and mentor to the residents of the various churches and small towns.
In her middle years, she owned her own drapery business. She enjoyed playing scrabble, cooking, baking.
Her parents, one daughter Rose Deahn Tilley (July 4, 1981), and four brothers, Carl Edwin, Wayne, Merle and Doyle Franklin also preceded her in death.
Surviving is one daughter, Yvonne Remona Barrows of Big Bear, Calif.; two sons, Charles Sidney Johnston of League City, Texas and Otis A. Johnston of Granbury, Texas; two brothers, Eldred "Guy" Franklin of Mustang and Cecil Franklin of Eugene, Ore.; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Audrey Jones
Funeral services for Audrey Marie Jones of Sasakwa will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phillips Mullins officiating.
Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Philips Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jones passed away Sunday, July 1, 2007 in Midwest City at the age of 64 years. She was born Dec. 1, 1942 in Wewoka to Roy and Bernetta (Hamilton) Gammons.
She attended Sasakwa Schools and was a member of Central Christian in McAlester; Eastern Star and the Carter County Extension Club.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, traveling and spending time with her family.
On Aug. 4, 1958 she married James (Dale) Jones in Sasakwa and to this marriage two children were born.
Her parents, three brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Survivors include: husband, Dale Jones of the home; daughters, Daylene Freeman and husband Kevin of Ardmore and Donna Vaughn and husband Ralph of McAlester; one grandson; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Eunice Smith of Frisco, Texas, Lois Boyce of Tulsa and Wanda Shores of Ada; brothers, DeRay Gammons of Wilburton, James Gammons of Sasakwa and Johnny Gammons of Cromwell; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Bettye Jones
Funeral services for Bettye Jean (Cook) Randall Jones, 72-year-old Maud resident, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church in Maud.
Rev. Carl Whitfield and Chaplain Donnie Knight will officiate the services with interment to follow at Cummings Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home, Maud.
Bettye passed from this life Sunday, July 29, 2007 in Shawnee. She was born May 4, 1935 in Fannin County, Texas to parents Noble K. Cook and Lillie (Taylor) Cook.
Following her graduation from High School, Bettye attended North Texas Business College. She was also a member of Southmayd Baptist Church in Texas.
Bettye married her first husband Ray Randall and he preceded her in death in 1967.
Bettye then married C.A. Jones, Jr. on Jan. 3, 1968 in Sherman, Texas. She was a mother and a homemaker.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, C.A. Jones of the home in Maud; one daughter and son-in-law, Casey and Larry Garren of Maud; two sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Jenetta Jones of Pottsboro, Texas and Randy and Trish Jones of Sherman, Texas; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Alice and Woodie Simmons of Kemp, Texas and Billie Brown of Grand Prarie, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kirby of Howe, Texas and Berniece and husband Lewis Williams of Sherman, Texas; brother-in-law, Bill Jones and wife Tina of Southmayd, Texas and brother-in-law, Bill Turman of Southmayd, Texas; five grandchildren: Jessica Jones of Gunter, Texas, Josh Jones of Sherman, Texas, Kaley Garren of Maud, Jordy Garren of Maud and Robert Rodriguez of Maud.
Bettye is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Ray Randall in 1967;one sister, Ava Turman and one brother-in-law, Herbert Brown.
Marguerie Jones
Graveside services for Wewoka native Marguerie Jones are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Westwood Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Myers Mortuary, Wewoka.
Jones, 66 of Bakersfield, Calif., died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007 at Mercy Southwest Hospital. She was born Sept. 5, 1940 in Wewoka to Dave Henderson and Mildred Chandler Jones.
She attended school in Wewoka and graduated from Douglas High School in 1958. She lived most of her life in Seminole County all of her school years.
While working as a computer programmer analyst for Main Frame Computers, she also earned a Bachelor’s degree in journalism at San Jose State University in San Jose, Calif., and a Master’s degree from Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City.
Her parents, five sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
Surviving is one uncle, Wayne C. Chandler of Oklahoma City.
Milton Jones
Graveside services for Seminole resident, Milton Jones are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Maple Grove Cemetery with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.
Services will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Jones died on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Seminole Estates Nursing Center at the age of 82. He was born on September 27, 1924 to Lee and Edna (Earl) Jones.
He was a ranch hand in Kansas for many years. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He also served several years in the United States Army.
His parents, one sister, Sarah Belle Hall and three brothers, Allen, Harry and Ben Jones precede him in death.
One sister, Dorothy Harden of Seminole, survives him.
Ralph Jones
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Ralph Jones are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday at the Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Drew Isaacs, Ron Faulk and Bob Brown officiating.
Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Ralph Jones passed away on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007 at his home at the age of 70. Ralph was born in Tonkawa, Okla., March 1, 1936, to George W. Jones and Leona (Taylor) Jones.
He graduated from Nowata High School in 1954 and married Fredilene (Cordes) Jones in 1957 in Tulsa.
Ralph graduated from Tulsa University in 1958 with a degree in petroleum engineering and went to work for Amerada Petroleum at Tioga, N. D. Later he spent two years in the Tulsa office, four years in Louisiana, and four years in Alberta, Canada.
He left Amerada in 1969, moving back to Tulsa from Alberta and going to work for White Shield Oil & Gas as a department manager.
In 1973 he left White Shield Oil and Gas and started his own business, Genesis, Inc., traveling as a consultant, with much work in the Seminole area.
In 1976 Genesis, Inc. became the operator of oil and gas leases for Pawnee Petroleum and others, and Ralph and his family moved from Tulsa to Seminole in 1977.
In February 2004 a house church was begun called Fresh Bread Fellowship and Ralph became the pastor. He saw this as a very important commission from the Lord, and put his heart and his life into this work for God.
He loved the Lord with every part of his being and talked about Him to everyone he saw, which God blessed mightily.
Ralph was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed. But if he could speak to us now, he would tell us to focus on the Lord and make Him the center of our lives, for only then can we find true peace, happiness, and fulfillment.
His parents, one brother Jerry and one daughter Sheron Argo precede him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Fredilene of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Dana Jones of Tulsa; daughter, Amy Lunday of Seminole; brother and sister-in-law, Weldon and Patti Jones of Tulsa and Fred and Wendy Argo of Wewoka.
Twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive him.
Pallbearers will be: Ryan Van Meter, Bill Geyer, Eric Lunday, Fred Argo, Thom Wood, and Les Hilst.
Honorary Bearers will be: Jeff Walden, Ed Morgal, Ray Eppler and Ronnie Dice.
Robert Jones
Graveside services with full military honors for Konawa area resident, Robert Howard Jones, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2007 at Vamoosa Cemetery with Pastor Pam Shirk officiating.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.
Jones died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 64. He was born on Jan. 2, 1943 in El Paso, Texas to Robert Walton Jones and Esther Mae "Pill" (Longan) Jones.
He enlisted in the military in 1963 and served in the United States Navy, National Guard and later received an honorable discharge from the United States Army on Nov. 4, 1976.
Jones served with the Army during the Vietnam War in Vietnam, Korea and Germany. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart.
He also received several other medals and ribbons including the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Infantryman Badge and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, among others.
He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Black Horse Regiment of the 11th Armored Cavalry’s Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia.
Jones married Donna (Compston) Conger on May 26, 2002 in Mannford, Okla. They attended the First United Methodist Church in Konawa.
His parents and one brother, John Clifton Jones, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Donna of the home; two stepdaughters, Jeannie Cox of Mannford and Marie Prewett of Konawa; one brother, David Lee Jones of Norman; two sisters, Mary Angelia Jones of Tulsa and Kathryn Thompson of Gravette, Ark., and six grandchildren.
