GIG HARBOR — Longtime Ada resident Gerald (Jerry) Miller passed away at his son’s home in Gig Harbor, Washington on January 19, 2005. Services are being arranged through Criswell Funeral Home. The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 24, at the First Christian Church, located at the corner of Broadway and East 13th in Ada. The service will be followed by a processional to Rosedale Cemetery.
Jerry was born on June 10, 1918, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the son of Raymond Miller and Audrey Gilliam. Jerry is preceded in death by his younger sibling, Harold Sanders. Jerry grew up in Ada, attended Irving Elementary, Ada Junior High School, and Ada Senior High School. He moved to the Kenai Peninsula in Alaskan Territory after High School and worked as a metal smith until the United States entered WWII. He joined the Navy and met his wife, Bessie Wood from Flippin, Arkansas, while he was stationed at the Bremerton Naval Compound in the Puget Sound Region of Washington.
After the war ended, Jerry and Bess met in Oklahoma and married in 1946. Initially they resided in Clinton, Oklahoma, and managed Ray’s Motel. Later Jerry and Bess moved to Ada, to start an upholstery business while Bess worked at Scotty’s Cafe’ on Main Street. From 1957 through 1968 they owned and operated Terry’s Drive-In on East Main and Jerry’s Drive-In on South Mississippi. In the sixties they began purchasing farm land northeast of Ada, and ran a successful Aberdeen Angus-Brangus cattle business until 1999. After retiring from the restaurant business, Jerry worked full-time for Gibson’s, until the store closed, and then for Wal-Mart until he was 80 years young.
In the spring of 1999, Jerry and Bess’ only child, Terry, moved them to Gig Harbor, Washington, because of their failing health. Bess passed away in March of 2001, and was returned to Ada to be laid to rest at Rosedale Cemetery. Jerry leaves his son, Terry, his daughter-in-law, Julie Randolph Miller from Idabel, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Two of the grandchildren, Haley Miller and Hatch Miller, live in Gig Harbor, and the oldest grandchild, Celeste Billingham, resides in Winter Park, Florida, with her husband, John, and the two great-grandchildren, Johnny and Abby. The family invites all who knew and loved Jerry to celebrate his life this Monday.

Mr. Turner died Jan. 20, 2005, at Ada. He was born March 24, 1914, at Stratford to Albert and Ollie Schultz Turner.
He was a mechanic and lived in Stratford all his life. He was also a member of Free Will Baptist Church.
He married Anice Estelle Dansby Turner Sept. 12, 1931, at Stratford. She died Feb. 19, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ollie Turner; two sisters, Eloise Lambert and Jimmie Monzo; a son, Jimmy Turner; and a grandson, Kenny Turner.
Survivors include two sons, Ken Turner and wife Anita, Ada, and Jerry Turner and wife Sue, Oklahoma City; a daughter, Fahn Flanagan and husband Wayne, Duncan; a brother, Pete Turner and wife Nola, Deerborn, Mich.; a sister, Coonie Drake, Oklahoma City; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Cochran died Jan. 16, 2005. She was born March 22, 1929, at Konawa to Abraham L. and Jannet Ransom Nero.
She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School at Seminole in 1948. She graduated from college in 1969, retiring from the Konawa School District after 24 years of service.
She married Freeman Doakes. He preceded her in death. She married the Rev. F.D. Cochran Sr. in May 1977. She was also preceded in deathg by her parents, three sisters, Geneva Bruner, Gertrude Crooks and Sylvia Johnson Edwards;, and a brother, Robert Nero.
She served various roles in the church — church clerk, treasurer, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and member of the Trustee Board.
Survivors include three children, Debra Gail (the Rev. Famous Cochran), Larry Wayne (SGwen) Lewis, Pauls Valley, and and Freda Lynn Guess, Oklahoma City; 10 grandchildren, Truman (Duwana) Johnson II, Christopher (Dawneve) Johnson, Gabrielle Cochran, Titania Lewis, Brittany Lewis, Charmeta Guess, Natasshia Guess; 13 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Kaitlin, Jordan, Rachel, Karolynn, Sefuan, Rone, Amaunda, Deja, Malayja, Loquisia, Montoya, Holli; an aunt, Tilda Ransom; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Archer died May 7, 2005, at Ada. He was born Oct. 23, 1915, in Coal County to John Thomas and Edith Montia Stevens Archer.
He attended Turkey Creek and Leader schools and was a farmer and construction worker. He was a member of Tupelo Church of God.

ADA — Services for Bobby Gene Benefield, 72, Ada, are 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Glen Eaves and Carlyle Gargis will officiate. Burial will follow at Holdenville Cemetery. The U. S. Air Force Honor Guard from Tinker Air Force base will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
Mr. Benefield died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at a local nursing home. He was born Aug. 5, 1932, at Sasakwa to Joseph Jackson and Edna Fitzpatrick Benefield. He attended 18 different grade schools and junior high schools. He attended Columbia College in South Carolina and received a bachelor’s of science degree in 1963 from East Central University in Ada. He also received numerous other professional training.
Mr. Benefield married Joan Shed June 24, 1956, in Holdenville. He was a project director in environmental science for nine years. He retired from the Robert S. Kerr Research Lab in 1980. Later, he owned and operated Environmental Resource Technologies Laboratory before retiring in 2000.
Mr. Benefield served in the U.S. Air Force for 11 years. He was stationed in Newfoundland, Alaska and South Carolina and also with the Public Health Service for four years in Minneapolis, Minn.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Benefield, of the home; three sons, Bryan “Randy” Benefield, Globe, Ariz., Stephen Benefield and wife Shelley, Ada, and Stewart Benefield, Ada; four grandchildren, Kelsey Benefield, Globe, Ariz., Marni Benefield, Las Vegas, Nev., Emily and George Benefield, Ada; a special nephew and his wife, Dale and Audrey Jones, Sasakwa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, and two brothers.
Bearers will be Richard Dunlap, Tim Hensley, Tim Anderson, Joey Ardrey, Jim Gordon and Leo Epperly. Honorary bearers will be former co-workers of Robert S. Kerr Research Lab.

MANNFORD — Services for S. J. “Buck” Buckner, 87, Mannford, formerly of Ada, are 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. David Gray will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery, Ada.
Mr. Buckner died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at a Mannford nursing home. He was born July 5, 1917, at McAlester to Walter Cook and Mattie O. Richardson Buckner.
He came to this area in 1948 from Dallas, Texas, and was a salesman for Morton Food. He held various other sales positions in the Ada and Muskogee areas. He was also a caretaker at Marie Bailey Village for several years. Mr. Buckner had been a member of Trinity Baptist Church since the early 1980s.
He married Hazel LaRue Dement April 4, 1942, in Dallas, Texas. She died July 29, 2004.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Horton, Mannford, Donna Hardcastle and husband Bob, Umatilla, Fla., and Janice Deets and husband Bill, Rochelle, Texas; six-grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Lillian Adams, Sadie Buck, and Hallie Jones, all of Texas.
Bearers will be his grandsons, Troy Sanders, Debin Horton, Gary Dean Horton, Chris Hardcastle, Robbie Hardcastle and Mikah Hardcastle.

Mrs. Gallup died Saturday, May 7, 2005, at a local hospital. She was born Aug. 2, 1904, near Hennessey, Indian Territory, to Patrick Steven and Jane Duncan O’Hern.
She moved to the Stratford area in 1936 from Beaver County. She attended school at Surprise, Okla. She was a member of Stratford Church of Christ.
She married Hollis P. Gallup March 16, 1927. He died May 30, 2000.
Survivors include two sons, Hollis Gallup, Stratford, and Joe G. Gallup, Stratford; a daughter, Mildred Norcross, Stratford; a sister, Winnifred Pryor, Tulsa; a brother, Charley O’Hern, Hennessey, Okla.; 15 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, William Patrick Gallup, nine brothers, Buzz O’Hern, Ray O’Hern, Dale O’Hern, Roy O’Hern, Clyde O’Hern, Sid O’Hern, Wayne O’Hern, Melvin O’Hern and Bud O’Hern; and one sister Nora Cain.
