Roy Kibby
Friends are invited to a memorial service for Roy C. Kibby at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Wewoka.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Roy C. Kibby left us Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007. He was born Aug. 1, 1922 in Yeager, Okla. Now those who love him will take the time to think about his life and what was really most important to him – his legacy.
There is a group of old friends who met at Robert’s Drug Store each morning to have a 20-cent cup of coffee and to see who would get the last word.
They often told Roy Kibby that he had the first dime he ever made and would probably be the first ever to take his money with him when his day comes.
Roy would laugh and say, "These guys always give me a hard time."
When most kids are studying to get their driver’s license, Roy was enlisting in the National Guard. He lied about his age because he loved this country and wanted to protect it and the liberties our Constitution guarantee.
By the time that he was 19, he was a Staff Sergeant. When he was shot in the leg, he refused to be sent back to the U.S. because he wanted to stay with his platoon.
That decision resulted in his body being riddled by 36 pieces of shrapnel. When Roy finally regained consciousness enough o understand the serious nature of his multiple injuries, his tears were for his platoon and the disappointment of not being able to serve with them. Roy Kibby loved this United States of America.
After years of painful surgeries and numerous physical challenges, Roy learned to talk and walk again. And before all of the wounds had completely healed, he went to work for Buster Adams.
He later became Buster’s business partner at A&K Auto Supply. During that time he, along with other community leaders, offered opportunities for the youth of Holdenville to have free dancing, baton twirling, tap and swimming lessons.
They sponsored free roller-skating and hayrides as well. Roy Kibby loved the people of Holdenville and he did his part to make it a better place.
Roy is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and his two children, Jim Kibby and Peggy Ebersole.
He would certainly want you to know that he has three grandchildren, Kim Ebersole Rolston, Todd Ebersole and Julie Kibby Becerra. There are also three great-grandchildren: Chase, Christopher, and Alyssa Ebersole.
Roy was proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His generosity helped provide them with opportunities and support throughout their lives; including college educations, first homes and cars. Roy Kibby loved his family.
Roy and Dorothy attended the First Baptist Church in Wewoka, where they enjoyed the fellowship of many friends, as they fulfilled their commitment as believers.
Roy is also survived by three sisters, Mary Paslay, Jean Welch and Nelma Hammons.
