Leon McDonald

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident Leon McDonald are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ in Little.

Rusty Dawson, Rob Babbit and Bill McDonald are to officiate and interment is to follow at Little Cemetery with military honors.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Albert Leon McDonald, 84-years-old, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He died on the same home place he was born on Aug. 5, 1922 in the Twin Oak Community, north of Seminole to parents Martin D. "M.D." McDonald and Osa May (Hill) McDonald. He was the seventh of eight children.

Leon attended Twin Oak School and then Varnum High School, graduating in 1940. He went on to join the Civilian Conservation Corps.

He worked in Colorado where he met his future wife, Marie Holm of Idaho Springs. They married there on Dec. 12, 1941. They enjoyed 48 years together until her death in 1990.

Leon entered the Army Air Corps in 1943 and served with the 453rd bomb group, 8th Air Force stationed in Old Buckenham, England.

Upon his discharge in 1945 he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European Campaign Medal with eight battle stars, and the World War II Victory Medal.

He and Marie returned to Seminole after the war and Leon went to work for Gulf Oil Company, then for Kerr McGee. Leon retired from Kerr McGee in 1984 as a connection foreman out of the Cushing office.

A faithful member of the Church of Christ, Leon served as a Bible class teacher and elder in congregations in Cushing and Little. He enjoyed collecting antique tools and several articles and photos were published about him and his hobby.

Leon married Virginia "Betty" Freed on Aug. 10, 1991 in Oklahoma City. Leon and Betty served on the site council board of the Seminole Senior Center where they were chosen as the site’s Valentine King and Queen last year. They also enjoyed traveling together especially their Alaskan cruise.

His parents, his first wife Marie and children Kathy, Jennie, and Richard, preceded Leon in death. All of the children died in infancy. Also preceding him are four brothers, Roy, Burnard, James and Hoyt, and sister Nola, as well as brothers-in-law, Floyd Willoughby, and Herman Bull, sisters-in-law, Lula, Myrtle, Esther, and Norma Lee.

Leon is survived by his wife Betty of the home; his son, Leon Jr. and his wife Ann of Shawnee; three grandchildren, Amy and husband Todd Foxx of Bettendorf, Iowa, Clay and wife Debbie of Piedmont, Okla., and Ryan and wife Dwan of Midwest City and great-grandchildren, Kellen, Garrett and Gannon Foxx and Madison, Mallori and Mason McDonald.

He is also survived by stepson, Jim Freed and his wife Beverly of Chickasha, Okla., stepdaughter, Judy Babbit and husband Ron of Tulsa, Oklahoma; step-grandchildren, Janet and husband Jimmy Strate, Jerry Freed and wife Carmen, Lori Davis and Tyler Babbit; great-grandchildren, Justin and Jared Strate, Vail and Vann Freed, Randy and Christina Davis; his brother, Bill McDonald and wife Edna and his sister Lillie Willoughby, all of Seminole.

"Uncle Leon" is also survived by many special nieces and nephews and other friends who will greatly miss him.

Casket bearers will be; Steve McDonald, Bradley McDonald, Alex McDonald, Matthew Boydstun, Ryan McDonald and Clay McDonald.

Honorary bearers will be the elders and deacons of the Church of Christ at Little, Oklahoma.

Vernon McGee

Funeral services for longtime Cromwell resident Vernon McGee are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

McGee, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 in Seminole. He was born June 16, 1914 in Macomb to Jessee Tee and Mary Alice (Black) McGee.

He was born and raised on the family farm in Macomb, and was a graduate of Macomb High School.

McGee served in the United States Army in Germany during World War II and he lived in California for many years before moving to Cromwell in 1980.

On Oct. 18, 1980 he married Irene Adams in Tulsa and worked as a security guard and fireman at Lockheed Missiles in van Nuys, Calif. and Manteca Magnesium Plant.

He attended Cromwell Baptist Church and loved gardening and deer hunting.

His parents, five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife Irene Adams McGee of the home; four sons, Vernon Eugene McGee of Edgewater, Colo., Melvin Lewis McGee of Oklahoma City, Bobby Lee McGee of Commerce City, Colo. and Billy Glen McGee of Las Vegas, Nev.; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mary McMullin

Funeral services for longtime Wewoka resident Mary I. McMullin are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Mary passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007 in the Seminole nursing home. She was born July 7, 1928 in Wewoka to James L. and Janie (Hayes) Hale.

She graduated from Wewoka High School and worked for Big Yank as a seamstress. Mary also worked for Fox Cleaners as an alteration person and as an Eldercare provider after retirement.

Mary was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Her parents; husband, William (Bill) McMullin and seven brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Betty J. Crowdis of Yukon and Peggy Sue McMullin of Seminole; three grandchildren, Regina, Brad and Brian; one great-grandchild; two brothers, J.R. Hale of Seminole and Willie Hale of Sallisaw and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Thomas McQueen

Funeral services for Seminole native Thomas George McQueen were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with Dr. Lance Sawyer officiating.

Entombment followed in Memorial Park Mausoleum. Service arrangements were under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home.

Thomas George McQueen passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007. He was born June 9, 1933 in Seminole to James Wilson and Mina Faye Cabe McQueen, along with a twin brother, Richard "Dick".

He grew up in Seminole where he was raised on the family dairy farm. He graduated from Varnum High School.

After high school his first job was as a floor hand (roust about) on a drilling rig for Jerry Scott Drilling.

On April 9, 1954, Tom married Clarilee Shields in Seminole. Earlier that year, Tom began his career in the oil business with Dowell Services, in Seminole, Ft Smith, Healdton, Pauls Valley, and Muskogee.

In 1969 he founded McOil Company. He expanded the company to include McAir Drilling, McOil Service Company and McOil Operating Company.

His passion was engineering and designing custom built oil field equipment. After semi-retirement in 2004, Tom continued to stay active by monitoring his oil production.

Tom was a long-time devoted member of First Baptist Church. He was a church deacon, a choir member, and taught seventh grade Sunday school for many years.

He was also on the building committee for the Christian Life Center and other church projects. Tom was a man of great faith, but also civic minded.

He served on the Board of Directors at First National Bank and Commercial Bank and Trust Company for many years. He was also an active member of Rotary Club. In his spare time, Tom enjoyed fishing with his son and grandsons.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and twin brother, Dick McQueen.

He is survived by his wife, Clarilee McQueen; son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Carol McQueen of Muskogee; daughter and son-in-law, Kerri and Russell Ingram, of Dallas; grandsons, Foster McQueen and his wife, Hilary, of Muskogee, Mitchell McQueen of Edmond and Charlie Green, III, of Dallas; sister and brother-in-law, Janice and George Sanderson, of Wewoka; sister-in-law, Ina Jean McQueen, of Muskogee; nieces, nephews and their spouses, Sharon and Bob Turner of Oklahoma City, Lessa and Richard Alkire of Colorado, Rick and Mary Kay McQueen, of Muskogee, La Donna Sims, and Janet and Mel Herron and a host of extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Mike Wise, Harold Parsons, Rick McQueen, Bill Boies, Bob Dotson and Dr. George Ladd.

Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Weddle, Louis Wheeler, Robert Twibell, R.T. Shields, and Chris Hammond.

Virginia McQuillen

Funeral services for former Wewoka resident, Virginia Thomas McQuillen, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Wewoka with Rev. Ed Bateman officiating and assisted by Rev. Amanda B.P. Lockwood.

Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Virginia, 90, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 in Tulsa. She was born Feb. 19, 1916 in Quinton, Okla., to Ernest and Bertha (Parker) Thomas.

She graduated from Quinton High School and East Central Teacher’s College with a BA in French. Virginia was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Wewoka.

Her husband, J.D. McQuillen; brothers, Herman Thomas, Joe Thomas and James Thomas; stepdaughter, Halene Durall and her daughter, Melo Richter preceded her in death.

Surviving is her son, James McQuillen and wife, Mary, of Plano, Texas; daughter, Linda McQuillen Kulp and Husband, Victor of Tulsa; grandsons, James W. McQuillen, John McQuillen and Davis Kulp; stepdaughter, Donna Durall and her children, Leslie Willis, Corda Galloway, Hannah Whisenand, Patrick Durall, Jimmy Walker and Alan Durall and Randa Durall (the children of Halene Durall).

Berta Elva McRay

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident, Berta Elva McRay are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29 at the Seminole Church of Christ with Todd McRay and Chris Stinnett officiating.

Interment will follow at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Berta Elva McRay passed away on Monday, March 26, 2007 at Holdenville Hospital at the age of 97. She was born on June 17, 1909 north of Horntown in Hughes County to Bert Garrison and Emma (Hawthorne) Bagwell.

Elva moved to Holdenville in 1921 and graduated from Holdenville High School. She married John R. McRay, Sr. on Dec. 27, 1927 in Wewoka and together they made their home in Holdenville where she and her husband reared their four sons.

They lived in Holdenville 34 years before moving to Seminole in 1961. She lived in Seminole until recently moving into a retirement home in Holdenville.

She was a faithful member of the East Main Church of Christ in Holdenville and the Seminole Church of Christ in Seminole. She became a member of the Church of Christ in 1933 and was a faithful Christian for 74 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John McRay, Sr. on March 6, 1991 and two sons, Charles McRay and John McRay Jr., two brothers, three sisters, and one granddaughter.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Harold McRay and wife Evelyn of Lawton and Wallace "Doe" McRay and wife Sue of Seminole; two daughters-in-law, Linda McRay of Ft. Smith, Ark. and Neva McRay of Edmond; sister, Grace Freeman of Albany, Ore.; and sister-in-law, Francis Olson of Truth or Consequences, N.M.

In addition, 11 grandchildren, Karen Morris and husband Chris, Kim Layman and husband Brian, Shannon McRay, Stephen McRay and wife Michelle, Mark McRay and wife Gay, Todd McRay and wife Laura, Bryan McRay and wife Sunny, Amy McRay, Kellie McRay, Jeff McRay and Erin Duncan and husband Ty; numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild also survive her.

Pallbearers for the services will be Stephen McRay, Mark McRay, Bryan McRay, Jeff McRay, Tom McRay and John Robert McRay.

Donations may be made to the John and Elva McRay Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma Christian University, 2501 E. Memorial Road, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73013.

Darlene Mendenhall

Funeral services for Seminole native Darlene A. (Presley) Mendenhall are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Baue Funeral and memorial Center Chapel in St. Charles, Mo.

Interment is to follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo., under the direction of Baue Funeral and Memorial Center.

Mendenhall, 74 of St. Charles, Mo., died Saturday, March 24, 2007 at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in Creve, Mo. She was born Dec. 25, 1932 in Seminole to King and Edna Presley.

She was a homemaker and member of Harvester Baptist Church.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Surviving her is her husband, Rev. Robert Mendenhall of St. Charles; daughters, Gay Lynn Estes of St. Charles and Joy Reddick of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Donna Wallace of Seminole and Doris Sanders of Norman and three grandchildren.
