Josephine Mills

Longtime Seminole resident Josephine J. Gilkey Mills passed away on Sept. 3, 2007, at Seminole Estates Nursing Center at the age of 81.

She was born on May 27, 1926, in Spring Valley, Ark., to Jesse and Elsie Mary (Hayes) King.

She married Glenn Gilkey and he preceded her in death in February of 1962.

Mills retired from Wrangler more than 30 years ago, where she had worked for many years.

She loved to play cared and dominoes with family and friends. She was also a loyal patron of the Heritage House in Seminole and delivered meals to shut-ins for several years.

Mills is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dick Gilkey and wife Jo Ann of Edmond; daughter, Kathey Hill of Seminole; granddaughter, Terri Stastny and husband J.D. of Prague; grandson Jason Gilkey and wife Debbie of Nashville, Tenn.; two great-grandsons, Nathan Michael Stastny and Connor Sullivan Gilkey; and one great-granddaughter, Treasure Ruth Gilkey.

Numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends also survive her.

Mills’ parents, husband, one brother, and three sisters preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at Little Cemetery, with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

Viewing will be held Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Paul Matthews, J.D. Stastny, James Cox, Jason Gilkey, and David Rambo.

Wilma Mitchell

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Wilma Jayne Mitchell are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Seminole Church of Christ.

Interment is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole, under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home of Odessa, Texas.

Mitchell, 85 of Odessa, Texas, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007 at her residence. She was born April 25, 1922 in Breckenridge, Texas to Julius Marion and Viola (Blakeney) Hollowell.

On March 1, 1944 she married Leland Keith Mitchell in San Francisco, Calif. She was a retired secretary from the Oklahoma State Department of Education.

Mitchell moved to Odessa from Seminole in March 2003 and was a member of the Seminole Church of Christ.

Her parents; husband; brother, Robert Marion Hollowell; and sister, Dorothy Louise York, preceded her in death.

Surviving is her nephew, Steve York, and niece, Sharon Mayfield, both of Odessa.

Johnny Mitchell

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Johnny Mitchell are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at New Hope Church in Wewoka.

Interment is to follow at the Mitchell Family Cemetery in Dustin, Okla., under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Mitchell, 70-year-old Shawnee resident, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007 at Unity North Hospital in Shawnee. He was born Nov. 10, 1936 in Hannah, Okla., to Simon Silla Mitchell and Betty (William) Mitchell.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was a huge sports enthusiast and was a big Oklahoma University fan.

Mitchell retired from Thomas Concrete Company in Oklahoma City in 1990 and was also a self-employed welder.

He was a member of New Hope Church in Wewoka, where he and his wife Ernestine (Tanyan) were married on March 10, 2001.

His parents; five brothers, Sam, Albert, Josie, Jim, Chebone Mitchell and Henry McNac; and one sister, Martha Ned, preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife of the home and three sisters, Hanna Tiger of Oklahoma City, Mary Davis of Weleetka and Nellie West of Weleetka.

Visitation is scheduled at Swearingen Funeral Home until 8 p.m. Saturday and the body will be taken to New Hope Church on Sunday at 4 p.m. for wake services Sunday evening.

Herbert Moon

Private family services for longtime Wewoka resident Herbert J. Moon will be held at a later date with arrangements under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Moon, 86, died Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Holdenville General Hospital.

He attended Wewoka Schools and was retired from Tinker Air Force Base in the Aircraft Maintenance Division.

Moon was a World War II veteran of the United States Army.

Surviving is his wife, Gladys Moon of the home; two sons, Herbert and Joe Moon, both of Wewoka; four grandsons and one brother, Elbert Moon of Sand Springs.

Joanie Mooney

Funeral services for Wewoka resident, Joanie Mooney will be 2 p.m. Monday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wayne Sloan, of Tecumseh officiating.

Interment is to follow at Resthaven Cemetery, Seminole under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Born June 17, 1983 at Shawnee to Keith Mooney and Linda Ruth Gore, she graduated from Wewoka High School with the class of 2003, and later went to work for Wrangler in Seminole as a boxer.

Her grandmother, Margaret Ruth Gore, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her companion, Jo Benson of Wewoka; father, Keith Mooney of Maud; mother and father, Linda Ruth and Hal Eugene Henington of Wewoka; sisters and brothers, Angela Mooney of Wewoka, Kenney Mooney of Holdenville, Charles Henington of Shawnee, Matthew Mooney of Holdenville, Tammy Mooney, Billy Mooney, Amanda Mooney, all of Maud, maternal grandfather, Frank Gore, Wewoka; paternal grandparents, Lilly and Louis Henington of McAlester; grandmother, Mary Madden of Holdenville; niece, Breasha Marriot; nephews, Qualen Marriot and Kahaner Marriot and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews , cousins and other relatives and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Marcus Henington, Kerry Nail, Edward Paulk, Justin Henington, Tim Davis and Phillip Work. Bobby Hasbell will be acting as an honorary pallbearer.

Carol Moore

Funeral services for Okemah/Cromwell resident, Carol Lee Moore, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church with Rev. Jeannie McMahan officiating.

Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Moore, 69, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2007 in Okemah. She was born April 30, 1938 in Okemah to Leslie and Alice (Aldridge) Moore.

She graduated from Excelsior School and received her Master’s degree from Southwest College and taught at Okemah Schools for a number of years.

Moore was a member of First Christian Church, Okemah and enjoyed art and teaching it to others. She also enjoyed reading and he re friends.

Her parents and brother preceded her in death.

Surviving is her stepsister, Patricia Stiffler.

Carl Moore

Funeral services for Shawnee resident Carl Roy Moore are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Higgins and Rev. Jess Power officiating.

Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service, Shawnee.

Mr. Moore passed away on Monday, Aug. 13, 2007 in Oklahoma City, at the age of 63. He was born Oct. 18,1943 in Shawnee to Homer and Anna (Whited) Moore.

He graduated from Prairie Valley High School and was a longtime resident of the Shawnee area where he farmed and ranched. Moore retired from Mobil Chemical Corporation in Shawnee.

His parents and one sister, Dorothy Waldrip, preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Pearlene Moore, of the home; daughter, Tina Moore of Shawnee; son, Sheldon Moore of Shawnee; grandchildren, Brittany Herron, Christopher Moore, Karra Reynolds and Jordan Harjo, all of Shawnee; step-grandson, Clinton Herron of Seminole; one brother, Jim Moore and wife Alice of Oklahoma City; one sister, Linda Campbell and husband Bill of Shawnee; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carl Morris

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Carl William Morris are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ron Keeling officiating.

Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

He passed away on Saturday Dec. 1, 2007 at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 75. He was born on May 30, 1932 in Holdenville to George Leland and Artie Pearl (Arnold) Morris. He graduated from Moss High School.

He married Willa Dean (Locke) Morris on Nov. 26, 1952 in Carlsbad, N.M. and she preceded him in death on April 5, 1987.

He was the owner/operator of Morris Power Tong Service for several years.

He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Doyle and Joan Morris of Seminole, David and Sheri Morris of Bay City, Mich., Darrell and Traci Morris of Fredonia, Kan.; one daughter and son-in-law: Debra and Ken Wimer of McLoud; and one brother, Odell Morris of Shawnee, Oklahoma.

He is also survived by grandchildren: Wayland Morris, Jackie and wife Donita Parker, Ricky and wife Lori Parker, Stephanie and husband Brian Broughton, Stacy and husband Stan Oyler, Ashley Cavett, Aubrey Cavett, Christopher Wimer, Laci Moore, Brian Wimer, Chad Wimer, Jennifer Wimer, Jade Morris, Leah Morris and Austin Morris; great-grandchildren: Cara Parker, Jacklyn Parker, Justin Parker, Jacob Blalock, Ross Parker, Kayla Parker, Dustin Broughton, Hanna Broughton, Andre’ Bauer, Tyson Martinez, Kloe Oyler, Matthew Moore, Kayla Moore, Kelsey Moore, Andrew Moore and Aurora Wimer and one great-great grandchild, Kaylee Fryer.

Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends, also survive him.

His parents George and Artie Pearl Morris; wife, Willa Dean Morris; brothers and sisters, Mable Morris, Lowell Morris, Floy Skipworth, June Sadler, G.L. Morris and one great-grandson, Justin Smith, precede him in death.

Pallbearers will be: Tommy Stafford, Chris Plumlee, Stan Oyler, Brian Broughton, Wayland Morris and Michael Morris.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Swearingen Funeral Home in Carl’s memory to help with funeral expenses.

Mary Moses

Funeral services for longtime Wewoka resident Mary Moses will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, at Hilltop Indian Presbyterian Church, Wewoka, with Rev. Edwin Jimboy, Rev. Houston Tiger, and Rev. Larry Harrison officiating and burial at Moses Family Cemetery.

Wake services for will be 6:30 p.m. Friday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel.

Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Mary passed away Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007 at the age of 75 in Seminole. She was born Oct. 24, 1931 in Wewoka to Chebon Moses and Rosanna Harjo Moses.

Mary worked for Wewoka Nursing Home for more than 35 years as a nurse’s assistant. She was a Member of Wewoka Hilltop Indian Presbyterian Church.

She was also an Elder of her Church, and a Woman’s Leader. She was very involved in her Church.

She enjoyed being with her grandchildren, watching wrestling and Peoples Court.

Her siblings, Sam Moses, Solomon Moses, Olie Moses, Mandy Hill, Ella Moses preceded Mary in death.

Surviving is her son, Rex Hailey, and wife Misselda of Wewoka; grandchildren, Ashlee Hailey, Steven Wolf, Rexton Hailey, Amy Hailey, Brittany Wolf, Ralston Hailey, Angel Hailey, Deidre Harrison, Destre Harrison, Elizabeth Harrison, Sierra Brown, Allie Harrison, and Mena Harrison; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends; and special friend, Wendy Harrison

Pallbearers will be: Mickey Hill, Olie Gunville, Harlan Moses, Charles Travion, Eric Wise, and Jonathan Wolf.

Honorary bearers will be: Earnest Moore, J.C. Kanard, Durwood Tucker, Barry Tucker, Richard Wind, Charlie Hill, and Walter Hill.
