Mattie Pitchlynn

Funeral services for longtime Wewoka resident Mattie "Oberia" Pitchlynn are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at New Life Church in Wewoka with Rev. Tommy Azlin officiating.

Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Pitchlynn died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at her residence. She was born March 21, 1918 in Mill Creek, Okla., to Henry Stanley and Leola (Rose) Parks.

She graduated from Spaulding High School and in 1940 she married Thurman J. "Pete" Pitchlynn. He preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1998.

Pitchlynn was a member of New Life Church since 1947, and was a member of the women’s auxiliary.

She enjoyed cooking, fishing, visiting with her family and reading her Bible.

Her parents; sisters, Norene Whitlock, Opal Bowen, Jo Dean Grimes and Oral Green and brothers, Archie and James Parks, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Thurman J. Pitchlynn Jr. of McAlester and Gary S. Pitchlynn of Norman; seven grandchildren and sister, Ruby Robbins of Ft. Worth, Texas.

Pallbearers for the services will be: Peter Pitchlynn, Trey Pitchlynn, Collin Jiacomo, Brian Ragan, Stefan Barnhouse and Travis Caldwell.

Dora Pitman

Graveside services for former Seminole resident Dora Bell Pitman are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dale Cemetery in Dale with Rev. Jasper Ligon officiating.

Services are under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home, Ada.

Mrs. Pitman, 88 of Ada, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007 at her home. She was born Oct. 16, 1919 in Inola to John Henry and Lydia Elizabeth Bailey Ham.

She moved to the Ada area in 2003 from Seminole. In 1950 Dora married Troy Pitman in Gainesville, Texas. He died Sept. 30, 2004 in Ada.

Mrs. Pitman was a homemaker.

Her parents; husband; daughter, Donna Sue Scheele; and granddaughter, Brenda Kay Scheele, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Jim Pitman and wife Danette of Ada; daughter, Glenda Groethe of the home; two sisters, Jean Colwell of Seminole and Georgia Ham of Shawnee; six grandchildren: Char Dignan, Laura Ulin, Jennifer Holmen, Karina Groethe, Michael Pitman, and Emily Kiser; 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Dewey Pitts

Graveside services with military honors for longtime Seminole resident Dewey "Buddy" Pitts are scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday at Little Cemetery with Rev. Donnie Knight officiating.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Dewey "Buddy" Pitts passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007 in Seminole, at the age of 70. He was born on Jan. 23, 1937 in Wilsonville, East of Bowlegs, to Roy Earl and Maudie Ellen (Hilliard) Pitts.

He attended Bowlegs Schools and was affiliated with the First Baptist Church. Buddy served in the U.S. Navy for four years, after his discharge from the Navy he worked in the Seminole County Oil Fields.

After leaving the oilfield he worked as a tire builder for Uniroyal Goodrich in Ardmore for many years retiring on Jan.14, 1996.

He is survived by two sons, Harvey Lee Pitts and Shawn Pitts of Lebanon, Okla.; one daughter, Rhonda Yvonne Pitts of Wylie, Texas; two sisters, Carol Mills and husband Reford of the home in Seminole, and Doris Dean Cox of Seminole and two grandchildren: Dale Curtis and Jennifer Elizabeth Pitts.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Roy Raymond, Harvey Monroe and Edgar Lee Pitts, and two sisters: Gwendolyn Lenore Pitts and Flossie Marvella McCuroy.

Honorary casket bearers will be nephews: Mike Mills, Shelldon Mills, Don Pack, Dale Babb, Brian Babb and Robert Babb.

Robert Pointer

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Robert L. Pointer are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Doyle Long officiating.

Interment is to follow at Rest Haven memorial Gardens under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Bob Pointer passed away on Monday, July 16, 2007 in Carrollton, Texas at the age of 80. He was the oldest of five children born on May 5, 1927 in Holdenville to L.A. and Demma (Stephens) Pointer.

He married Annemarie (Specht) in 1948 while serving in the United States Army where he was proud to serve two tours during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

He was the happiest when he was around groups of people; he loved gospel music and playing his harmonicas. He enjoyed photography and collecting memorabilia and sharing his vast collections with others.

Bob retired in 1985 from Atlantic Richfield Oil and Gas Company where he worked for many years. He was a member of the Assembly of God in Seminole and lived most of his life in the Seminole, Holdenville and Wolf area.

In December of 2006 he moved to Carrollton, Texas to be closer to his daughter and son-in-law. He was a resident of Atria Carrollton, Assisted Living Center where he was very happy in his new surroundings.

It did not take him long to become known by fellow residents, with his participation in entertainment sessions and many activities provided by the Center.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Annemarie Pointer on March 28, 2003.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Monika and Derek Nash of Carrollton. He is also survived by numerous other family and friends.

Freddie Pollard

Funeral services for Ardmore resident Freddie Merle Pollard are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Assembly of God with Rev. Dwain Duck, Rev. Dr. Walt Spradlin and Rev. Benny Boeck officiating.

Interment is to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Griffin-Hillcrest Funeral Home and Cemetery, Ardmore.

Pollard, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007 in Ardmore. She was born May 13, 1914 in Provence, Okla. to Robert William Payne and Rosa Mae (Foreman) Payne.

On Aug. 26, 1933 she married David Felix Pollard in Ardmore and he preceded her in death on Sept. 12, 1985.

Known as the "Ivory Lady," Pollard volunteered for 30 years at a nursing home ministry receiving the Distinguished Service award from Lakeland Nursing Home.

At Crystal Rock Cathedral in 1993, she received Inspiration of the Year award and was named Mother of the Year for 2002 at Bethel Assembly of God, where she continued to attend until the time of her passing.

Her parents; two grandchildren, Tammy Darlene Pollard and Hannah Pollard; two brothers, Earl Payne and Wayne Payne and one sister, Opal Fair, preceded her in death.

Surviving are three sons, Coyce Pollard of Arlington, Texas, Dale Pollard of Ardmore and Gary Pollard of Seminole; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Bearers for the services will be Don Odle, Monroe White, Joe Reese, Don Jackson, Gale Jackson and Jim Matlock.

The family suggests that memorials may be made in her name to the Bethel Assembly of God, 442 West Broadway, Ardmore, OK, 73401.

Suzanne Polson

Funeral services for Seminole native Suzanne Polson were held today at 2 p.m. at the First Southern Baptist Church in Independence, Kan., with Walter Keener officiating.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Salem-Lutheran cemetery, near Axtell, Kan.

Services are under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Webb Rodrick Chapel.

Polson, 73 of Independence, Kan., died Friday, July 20, 2007 at Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville. She was born on Aug. 9, 1933 in Seminole to Robert A. and Mary (Mullins) Garrison.

She attended schools and graduated from Seminole High School in 1953. Polson also attended and graduated from Oklahoma A&M Tech at Okmulgee in 1956, receiving her degree in accounting.

Polson was employed at the local radio station as a traffic manager in Seminole before moving to Independence in 1965.

On June 14, 1958 she married Norman D. Polson in Seminole.

She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, where she was an active member in the Women’s Mission Organization.

Polson also served as voluntary treasurer for the Independence Food Basket for 25 years and worked with her husband in his accounting practice.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Surviving is her husband of Independence; one brother, Robert L. Garrison of Seminole and one sister, Linda C. Smith of Shawnee.

The family has suggested that memorials may be made either to the First Southern Baptist Church or to the American Kidney Foundation.

Guy Pool

Guy Eula Pool, of Midland, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007. She was born Feb. 26, 1935 in Eagletown, Okla., to Norvin Wendell Hadley, Sr., and Edna Una Dennington Hadley.

Guy was raised and educated in Eagletown. On Feb. 27, 1953, she married Norman Russell Pool in Lockesburg, Ark. He preceded her in death in 1982.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, and brother, Norvin Wendell Hadley, Jr.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael D. and Sarah Pool, Steven D. and Rhonda Pool, Kevin D. and Melania Pool, all of Midland, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa D. and Rick Duley of Roanoke, Texas; grandchildren, Karissa Pool of Houston, Texas; Keeley Pool, Chance Pool, Shanaye Pool, Russell Pool, Joshua Pool, Brian Pullen, Chassity Cooper, and Latisha Pullen, all of Midland, Texas; Bret Duley, Brandon Duley, and Brittany Duley, all of Roanoke, Texas; great-grandchildren, Leyton Welch, Kade Pullen, Kason Pullen, Garyn Cooper, Kalley Cooper, and Kamran Monahan, all of Midland, Texas; brothers, Warren Hadley of Fort Smith, Ark., Don Hadley of Earlsboro, and Rodger Hadley of Indiahoma, Okla.; sister, Eleanor Marrs of Fullerton, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.

Arrangements were under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home (432) 683-5555.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Midland, 911 W. Texas, Midland, Texas 79701.

Ardene Posey

Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Ardene (Holder) Posey are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Posey, 82, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007 in Oklahoma City. She was born March 15, 1924 in Sasakwa to Alfred "Dude" Holder and Annie (Renolds) Holder.

She married Paul Posey and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker.

Her parents, husband, two brothers, Aubrey "Biggin" Holder and his twin, Alfred "Littlin" Holder and two sisters, Willie Mae "Sug" Jones and Jewell "Doll" Arbuckle preceded her in death.

Surviving are two brothers, Robert "Bob" Holder of Turlock, Calif. and Billy Wayne Holder of Kingston, Okla. and one sister, Lula Mae Arbuckle of Seminole.
