Fread Brooks

Services for brother of longtime Seminole residents, Janette "Hook" Hancock and Inez Figley, Fread Hutto Brooks, will be planned at a later date.

Brooks, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008 in The Dalles, Ore. He was born Aug. 18, 1918 in Steedman, Okla., to Carley B. and Gennetty (Spence) Brooks.

He attended school at Red Oak in Steedman and was a veteran of World War II. Brooks served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and also in the Southern-Philippines and Ryuukyus campaigns.

After returning home to Allen, Okla., he met and then married Jewel Watson on Oct. 16, 1946. In early 1950 they moved to California.

The couple then made their home in Tulare, Calif., where he worked for UPS assembling trucks before retiring.

His parents, wife, two brothers and five sisters, preceded him in death.

Surviving is his daughter, Dona Lee Brooks Warren of Folson, La.; three granddaughters: Bonnie and Paul Teishandorf, Elsie and Royce McCormick, and Melissa and Bill Johnson, all of Louisiana; four great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Brooks, Brett and Dustin Johnson and Cameron McCormick; one brother, Johnny Brooks of Seminole; and four sisters, Janette, Inez, Irene Samsel of Oklahoma City,and Mazie Knighten of Holdenville.

Lillian Brooks

Graveside services for Wewoka resident Lillian Pauline Brooks are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Michael Vallandingham of First Baptist Church officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Lillian Brooks passed away Friday, June 13, 2008 at Elmwood Nursing Home, Wewoka, at the age of 93 years. She was born March 24, 1915 at Altus, Ark., to John and Rith (Nichols) Dixon.

She married Jim Webster Brooks in 1934 in Wewoka. Lillian graduated from Wewoka High School and later attended Draughn Business College in Oklahoma City, receiving a Certificate of Completion.

Lillian was a bookkeeper for Clay Forsee Chevrolet for a number of years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church.

She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and member of the Dahlia Garden Club and Bridge Club. Lillian has a passion for crocheting and giving her creations to her many friends.

Her parents; husband, Jim Brooks; son, Ricky Brooks; sister, Mary Hawkins; and brother, Chesley Dixon and Glen Dixon, preceded her in death.

Survivors include: son, Randy and wife Janis of Wewoka; grandson, Jeff Brooks and wife Jeri of Oklahoma City; special cousin, Beth Young South of Hemet, Calif.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Paul Loeffelholz, Jim Fleming, Maek Kedy, Davis Kedy, Gerald Hill and Johnny Grimes.

Michael Brooks

Michael William Brooks died Monday, Dec. 8, at the age of 67, in Seminole. He was born on April 13, 1941, in Middletown, Ohio, to parents John Joseph and Ethel Marie (Davis) Brooks.

He served his country with the United States Marine Corps and worked in the maintenance department of Norce Resource Center, in Enid.

He married Rita Ann Smith on July 27, 1971, in Wellington, Kan. They made their home in Seminole the last 12 years. He was a member of El Shaddai Church.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Brooks, of the home; son, Michael Brooks, Jr., of Enid; daughters Karry Frankee, of Covington and Michele Parker, of Enid; brothers, John Brooks, Tony Brooks, and Jeff Roberson; sisters, Dana Roberson, Diana Roberson, Joann Brooks, and Jerry; and three grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his stepfather, Bill Roberson; three brothers; and one grandson.

A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 10 a.m. at Baptist Church, in Covington with Frank Johnston officiating. Arrangements by Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.

William Brooks

William "Bill" Eugene Brooks, age 84, long-time resident of Asher, died Friday, Nov. 14, at the Oklahoma Veteran’s Center, in Norman.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Avoca Church of Christ, in Asher, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, of Konawa. Burial will follow at the Wanette Cemetery. D.W. "Red" Barnes will officiate.

Brooks was born Oct. 28, 1924, to James L. Brooks and Bertha (Davis) Brooks. in Asher.

He married Lena Scarborough on May 1, 1948, in Sacramento, Calif. He was a mechanic and a member of the Avoca Church of Christ, in Asher, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and a member of the VFW. He also rode horses.

He is survived by his wife, Lena Brooks, of Tucson, Ariz.; son, Jim Brooks, of Long Island, N.Y.; daughter, Julie Brooks, of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Ophelia Grosz, of Moreno Valley, Calif., Juanell Zandona, of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Nelda Brooks, of Asher; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bertha Brooks; daughter, Jeanne Brooks; and three brothers, Earl, Buck and Kent Brooks.

Pallbearers are Dewey Goodin, Deb Goodin, Phillip Brothers, Brad Johnson, Ed Stark, Scot Brooks, and Andrew Brooks.

Carroll Brooksher

Carroll Dean Brooksher, 53 year-old Wewoka resident died Sunday, Dec. 29, at Baptist Hospital, in Oklahoma City. He was born Aug. 7, 1955, in Wynnewood, to Raymond Brooksher and Ethel (Blackwood) Brooksher.

Brooksher was a school administrator and coach. He just retired as Superintendent of New Lima School in 2008. He had also worked at Wyandotte, Schulter and Buffalo Valley Schools. He moved to Seminole county from Healdton three and a half years ago.

He married Lynn Brooksher on April 11, 2003 in Mena, Ark. She survives him of the home. Other survivors include his mother, Ethel Brooksher, of Maysville; three sons, Chaz Brooksher, of Monroe, La., Brett Brooksher, of Ada, and Colten Brooksher, of Ada; one daughter, Hailee Wyanne Brooksher, of Wewoka; two brothers Larry and Wesley Brooksher, of Maysville; two sisters, Fuchsia Dickson, of Oklahoma City and Norma Wilkerson, of Oklahoma City.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 at the Immanuel Fellowship Church, in Seminole with Tim Tate officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, in Wewoka.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Genevieve Brown

Genevieve Maxine (Akin) Brown, age 94, died Thursday, Nov. 6, at Seminole Estates Care Center, in Seminole.

She was a lifelong Pottawatomie and Seminole County resident who lived in the Remus, Saint Louis, Macomb, Fairview and Seminole communities.

She was born Feb. 20, 1914, in Maud, to Emsley Floyd "E.F." Akin, Sr. and Grace Mahala (Bradburn) Akin. She graduated from Maud High School in 1931. She married Rural L. Brown in 1931 and he preceded her in death in April, of 1976.

Brown was a homemaker and a longtime member of the Seminole Free Will Baptist Church. She also served as a "Past Worthy Matron" of the Maud Eastern Star, where she received her 50-year plaque.

Brown was a member of the Remus Home Demonstration club for over 20 years and served as Past President for the Seminole Pink Ladies having over 8,400 hours of service, at Seminole Hospital.

Survivors include her two sons, Wayne L. Brown, of Wichita, Kan. and Bobby G. Brown, of Chino Valley, Ariz.; one daughter, Beverly Hass, of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Floyd Akin, of Maud, and Jimmy Akin, of Norman; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 13 great- great grandchildren.

Brown is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Rural L. Brown; and one sister, Mary Alice Kindle.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 10, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Seminole. Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery, in Maud. Rev. Delbert Akin, Rev. David McDougal and Rev. Allen Wood will officiate the service.

Casket bearers will be: Keith Brown, Paul Brown, Kalen Hoffman, Laura Brown, Danny Akin and Gary Akin.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Seminole.

Linda Brown

Funeral services for McAlester resident Linda Lorraine (Moore) Ayers Brown are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Middle Creek Baptist Church, Sasakwa.

Burial is to follow at Thomastown Cemetery, Sasakwa with Rev. Knighton of East Star Baptist Church to officiate.

Services are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, Holdenville.

Brown, 56, died Monday, April 7, 2008 at her home. She was born Jan. 21, 1952 in Holdenville to Lee Moore Jr., and Hudalia (Adkerson) Moore.

She was brought up and attended school in Holdenville, and was a basketball and track athlete at Holdenville High School.

She married Gary Paul Ayers and lived in Tatum, Okla., for many years. Later she married Thompson Brown in 1980 and they lived in Holdenville and Ada before moving to McAlester in 1994.

Brown worked as a dietary aide in various places, most recently for the past five years at the Van Buren House in McAlester.

Her first husband, five children, and one grandson, preceded her in death.

Surviving is her husband of the home; nine children: Paula Ayers of McAlester, Joyce Ayers of Seminole, Brian Ayers of Florida, Nicole Ayers of Oklahoma City, Monica Ayers of Milwaukee, Wis., Steven Ayers of McAlester, Patrick Ayers of McAlester, Tommy Brown of Hartshorne, and Kimberly Brown of McAlester; 18 grandchildren; her parents of Holdenville; six brother: Virgil Moore of Holdenville, Kevin Moore of California, Kenny Moore of Holdenville, Gregory Moore of Birmingham, Kirt Moore of Holdenville, and James Moore of Shawnee; and six sisters: Annette Adkerson Moore of Holdenville, Dorothy Jackson of Birmingham, Selena Lobett of Birmingham, Valorie Moore of Holdenville, Gloriea Moore of Birmingham, and Tanya Sams of Birmingham.

Thomas Brown

Funeral services for Seminole native Thomas H. Brown were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Wetumka Assembly of God Church with Rev. Darrel Gibbs officiating.

Interment followed at Lenna Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home,

Brown, 67, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at his home in Wetumka. He was born in Seminole on April 4, 1940 to John Brown and Ina Smith Brown.

He moved with his family to California as a young child and as a young man he returned to Oklahoma and resided in several Oklahoma Communities.

Brown spent several years in Maud, where he worked for the city. In the late 1980’s Brown moved to Wetumka.

He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Wetumka Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Dina Faye Brown; two sons: John Thomas Brown of Seminole and Floyd Lynn Brown of Seminole; five grandchildren; and one brother, Fletcher Harold Brown of Winchester, Okla.

Pallbearers were: Timothy Brown, T.J. Brown, Floyd Brown, Jr., Keith Harrison, DeWayne Dyer and Rick Griggs.

Alvin Brumley

Funeral services for Alvin Brumley will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Penecostal Holiness Church in Davis with Brother Johnny Beckmon and Pastor Vernon Carr officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.

Al was born on June 28, 1922 in Madill, OK to John and Rebecca (Moore) Brumley.

He went to be with the lord on Saturday, June 28, 2008 in Davis at the age of 86.

Al and Jo Ann Puckett were married on April 18, 1947 in Shawnee.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Richard Brumley; one granddaughter, Jordan Zametz; six brothers, and two sisters.

Al served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Force.

Following the war, Al began a career in the Oilfield Industry where he worked as a pumper until his retirement in 1974.

During his retirement, he remained busy working as a "Jack of all Trades."

He spent countless hours doing carpentry work, raising honeybees and working as a handy man to anyone that was in need of help in the neighborhood.

As a Christian, Al was a true believer of the Bible and lived by it. He had a soft spot in his heart when it came to orphans and widows.

He did what he could to make their lives better.

Al was a very devoted family man. He loved each one of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and expressed his love greatly.

He was a 32-degree Mason and had served as Master and secretary of the Masonic Trye Lodge 22 of Davis.

Survivors include his wife Jo Ann; two daughters, Becky Whitehead and husband Joe of Davis, and Karen Zametz and husband Lenny of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren, Jennifer White and husband Lannie of Elmore City, Justin Whitehead of Davis and Julie, James and Kevin Zametz all of Arlington, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Morgan, Hannah and Emalie White and Abbey and Jaylen Zametz; one sister Oweta Johnson of Uma, Az. and one brother Herman Brumley of Phoenix, Az.

Serving as pallbearers will be Don Cash, Efrain Gonzales, Cavin Jones, Mark and Tanner Pullen and Chris Chou.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society-Leukemia Research of the Christopher Reaves Spinal Cord Injury Research Center.

Services were "Entrusted to" Hales Funeral Home of Davis.
