Funeral services for Seminole resident, Florence Cowherd are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Seminole, with Rev. Glen Pence officiating.
Graveside services will be held immediately following the service at the Wetumka, Oklahoma Cemetery.
Mrs. Cowherd went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at the age of 90. She was born Feb. 20, 1917, in Deer, Ark., to Claude and Julia Pruitt.
At the age of 18, she married Delbert McElyea and was married until his untimely death due to an oil field accident in August 1962. They were married for 27 years and had one son, Paul Dean McElyea who preceded them in death in Dec. 1935 at 11 months of age.
On Jan. 17, 1969, she married Leonard Cowherd. During 35 years of their loving marriage, they resided in various places in Oklahoma: Washita, Anadarko, Claremore, Wetumka, and Seminole. Leonard’s three children became hers.
They are Mary Lou Mannschreck, Bartlesville, Betty Cussen, Broken Arrow, and Harold Cowherd of Memphis.
Florence and Leonard enjoyed their retirement years by caring for her mother, Julia Pruitt until her passing in 1986. They also enjoyed traveling in their RV, bowling, golfing and gardening.
They both sang in the church choir. Florence enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, but most of all her extended family. Florence will always be remembered for her quick wit, loving nature, and generosity to all.
She was preceded in death by her father, Claude Pruitt; mother, Julia Pruitt; son, Paul Dean McElyea; four siblings, Claude Jr., Flossie, Lonnie, and Lewell; her husband of 27 years, Delbert McElyea; and her husband of 35 years, Leonard Cowherd.
She is survived by daughters, Mary Lou Mannschreck, and Betty Cussen and her husband Jim; and son, Harold Cowherd and his wife, Diane.
Her surviving siblings are Madge Brinlee, Holdenville; Gladys Osborn, Wetumka; Betty Osborn and her husband Roy, Wetumka; Doug Pruitt and his wife Sylvia, Harrah.
She has many nieces and nephews. Surviving grandchildren are Christy Thompson and her husband Randy of Tazewell, Va; Kyle Cussen and his wife Misti of Broken Arrow and Kimberly Hendricks of Dallas.
Surviving step-grandchildren are Leanne Moffitt of Oklahoma City; Paul Moffitt of Seattle, Wade Jarlsberg and wife Cara of Norman, and Ande Jarlsberg of Norman.
Surviving great-grandchildren are Carley and Addie Thompson of Tazewell, Cassie and Caia Cussen of Broken Arrow; Jase and Porter Jarlsberg of Norman, and Ewan Moffitt of Oklahoma City.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Cussen, Jim Cussen, Harold Cowherd, Kenneth Brinlee, Mike Osborn, and Bruce Pruitt.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Osborn, Dennis Osborn, Curtis Brinlee, Hartsell Brinlee, Alton Brinlee, Joe David Pruitt, Danny Pruitt, Larry Pruitt, Jerry May and Leonard Ray Pruitt.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church of Seminole.
Ellen Cox
Seminole resident Ellen Faye Cox, age 64, died Monday, Dec. 22, at Integris Medical Center, in Seminole.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 27, at 10 a.m., in the Walker Funeral Service Chapel. Harvey Spear will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Dale Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 12, 1944, in Shawnee, to E.A. Kisor and Birdie (Treat) Kisor. She attended school in Dale. She married J.R. Cox, in 1961.
Cox spent most of her life as a housewife and homemaker. She had been a member of Hazel Dell Baptist Church. She enjoyed genealogy, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Danny Cox and wife Nancy, of Houston, Texas and Terry Cox and wife Carrie, of Seminole; five grandchildren, Danielle Cox, of Houston, Texas, Hannah Cox, of Houston, Texas, Jessica Cox, of Seminole, John Riley Cox of Seminole, Joshua Jenkins and wife Whitney, of Dale; great-grandchild, Lana Cheyenne; six brothers, Earl Kisor and wife Patsy, of Shawnee, Troy Kisor and wife Helen, of Yukon, Jack Kisor and wife Ann, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Tom Kisor and wife Joyce, of Shawnee, Ken Kisor and wife Judy, of Lindsborg, Kan., Don Kisor and wife Brenda, of Midwest City; sister, Elizabeth Williams and husband Ed, of Choctaw; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends
Preceding her in death are her parents and daughter, Lana Cox.
Services are under the direction of Walker Funeral Services.
Billie Crain
Funeral services for Sasakwa native Billie Crain are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel with Rev. Amanda Lockwood of First United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka. Arrangements are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Crain, of Dallas, Texas, died Sunday, June 15, 2008 at Plano General Hospital at the age of 84. He was born Dec. 25, 1923 in Sasakwa to Allen and Mayme Crain.
He was raised in Sasakwa and graduated from Sasakwa High School. On May 28, 1954 he married Christine M. Crain in Checotah and they raised two children together.
Crain served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a rifleman. After his discharge he attended the University of Oklahoma, receiving a degree in law.
He worked as Regional Director in Dallas, Texas, for the office of Hearing and Appeals for the Social Security Administration from 1963 to 1980.
Crain and his wife moved to McAlester in 1980, where he served a judge.
His parents and daughter, Mary Annette Crain, preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife and son, James Allen Crain, both of Dallas, Texas.
Gregory Crawford
Gregory Steven Crawford, 47, of Mansfield, Texas went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 28. Services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 31, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, in Seminole, with Pastor Tommy Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, in Seminole, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Greg was born on Feb. 13, 1961 in Houston, Texas to Pat and James Crawford. He was a dedicated employee for over 25 years at Air Liquide in Texas. Greg will be remembered as a funny, loving and compassionate son, father, brother, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
Greg is survived by his loving fiancé Melody Huddleston and her son Chance; his daughter, Lindsey Crawford and son Cody Crawford; and their mother Christie Bates, of Mansfield, Texas. He is also survived by his mother Pat Atyia and husband Freid Atyia, of Seminole; brother Jeff Crawford and wife Debbie and children Justin, Brandi and Jeffery, of Bakersfield, Calif.; brother, Kevin Crawford and wife Carolina and sons Nicolas and Nolan, of Mansfield, Texas; sister, Jayna Knight and husband Gene and daughter Cheyenne, of Spring, Texas; sister Tama Crane and husband Ben and daughter Abigail, of Sachse, Texas, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Frankie Crawford and Juanita Cline; his father, James Crawford; and nephew Brandon Burgett.
Pallbearers will include Rocky Loerch, Larry Burnett, Dennis Dunlap, Art Pena, Ken Rutland and Bobby Harper.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Knight, Ben Crane and Bruce Coates.

Nettie Crawford
Funeral services for longtime Maud resident Nettie Gertrude (Cain) Crawford are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church in Maud.
Frank Brewer is to officiate the services with interment to follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud.
Arrangements are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home, Maud.
Crawford, 96, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at Sunset Estates Care Center in Tecumseh. She was born Aug. 15, 1911 in Westminster, Texas to Samuel David Cain and Ethel (Box) Cain.
In 1923 she moved to Maud with her parents and on Oct. 25, 1930 she married Custer C. Crawford in Maud.
She worked as a cook at George’s Café and then at the Maud Nursing Home. Crawford retired in the early 1980s and was a member of the Maud Church of Christ for many years.
Her parents; her husband (Nov. 11, 1989); four brothers: R.D. Cain, Henry Cain, Bennie Cain, and Clinton Cain; and two grandchildren, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters: Loretta Bowder of Moore and Mary Winter of Seminole; two sons: David Crawford of Maud and Lee Crawford of Maud; one brother, Wiley Cain of Muldrow, Okla.; one sister, Oletta Watkins of Omak, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 34 great-great grandchildren.
Casket bearers will be: Mike Crawford, Mark Crawford, Randy Crawford, Terry Guinn, Raymond Bowder, Ricky Bowder, Jeff Horn and Steve Horn. Honorary bearers will be her great-grandchildren.
Margy Creech
Graveside services for Wewoka resident Margy Louise (Boyter) Creech are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Evergreen Cemetery in St. Augustine, Fla.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Creech, 78, died Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Integris Southwest Medical Center. She was born Sept. 24, 1929 in Wilmington, S.C., to Jack Boyter and Christine (Windham) Boyter.
She was a registered nurse and had worked as a dietician until her retirement in 1997. Creech moved to Seminole County two and one-half years ago from Florida.
Her parents; her first husband and father of her children, Robert Clinton Taylor; her second husband, Jim Creech; and two brothers, preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons: Steven Taylor of Wewoka and Robert Clinton Jr., of Florida; one daughter, Luanne Taylor of Daytona, Fla.; one sister, Mary of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Theopolis Crooms
Funeral services for Seminole High School graduate Theopolis "Kenneth" Crooms are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Ray Curry officiating.
Interment is to follow at Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Crooms, 65, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at his home in Norman. He was born April 28, 1943 in Atoka, Okla., to Leonard Crooms and Irene (Williams) Crooms-Burris. Crooms was the oldest of 15 children.
He received his diploma from Seminole High School and he worked for Mr. and Mrs. Agar for over 25 years, and Mr. and Mrs. Artman for over 20 years, as a caregiver.
His father; stepfather, Lorenzo Burris; sister, Bertha Burris’ and one brother, Rico Bernard "Bud" Burris, preceded him in death.
Surviving is his mother of Seminole; brothers: Alonza Burris of Edmond, Michael Burris of Konawa, John Burris of Seminole, Willie Burris of Wichita, Kan., and Wallace Burris of Monmouth, Ill.; and seven sisters: Rose Burris of Seminole, Marshell Burris of Seminole, Yolanda Black of Dallas, Texas, Patsy Colbert of Edmond, Cheryl Smith, Ellen Smith and Fondrea Crooms of Tulsa.
Leahnelle Crow
Graveside services for longtime Wewoka resident, Leahnelle (Ligon) Crow are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Michael Vallandingham officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Crow died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Elmwood Nursing Home, Wewoka. She was born March 16, 1920 in Murray, Ken., to Toy B. and Frocie (Outland) Ligon.
She and her family moved to Wewoka a number of years ago, and she graduated from Wewoka High School.
After graduation she worked for Otasco as a secretary for a number of years.
She and Clifton Crow were married and to this union one daughter was born.
Her parents; husband; and three brothers: Clifford, Hoyt and Bill Ligon, preceded her in death.
Surviving is her daughter, Kay Stump of Colorado; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
Betty Curb
Longtime Seminole resident Betty Jo (McClure) Curb passed away on Friday, Aug. 22, in Elk City, at the age of 80.
She was the youngest of seven born on March 6, 1928 in Wayne, to Thomas Rush McClure also known as "T.R. and Daddy Mac" and Gertie (Phillips) McClure.
She attended Wayne School for Grades 1 through 6; Paoli School Grades 7 through 10 (8th Grade Valedictorian): Midwest City School for Grades 11 and 12, Senior Class Valedictorian.
She received many awards including: Scholarship to Business College, American Legion Award, William P. Danforth award, Perfect Attendance (8 consecutive years), Best All-around Girl. Completed 3 Semesters at Oklahoma A&M College Stillwater, and School of Intensive Business.
After Betty started full time at Midwest City Schools, she met her future husband Alfred F. Curb, they dated over two years before they were married and started their family two and one half years later. They had two sons: Russell, Sept. 1953, and Ronald, Dec. 1956.
Al and Betty had been dating for a few weeks when they realized that they had both enrolled at A & M and left A & M the same dates. They didn’t meet each other there, because Betty stayed at college on weekends attending church activities (no money for bus fare) and Al was on the G.I. Bill (Marines) and drove his old car or hitchhiked home most weekends (to see his girlfriend).
For almost 55 years, Betty would remind Al that they could have met earlier at A & M.
Betty worked for several years for Midwest City School District where she helped with their financials and many other accounting issues. She also worked for the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission and Tinker Air Force Base.
Her most recent employment was with Strother School where she retired in May of 1995 after serving as their Secretary and Treasurer for thirty years. She had been an active member of Twin Oak Baptist Church since 1964.
Betty leaves to cherish her memories her two sons and daughters-in-law; Ron and Lisa Curb of Newcastle, and Russell and Jeanette Curb of Elk City, sister, Claudia Talley of Wellston, three grandchildren, Tara Curb of Newcastle, and Tiffany and Nicholas Curb of Elk City, and one great granddaughter, Madisyn Inman of Elk City. She is also survived by a host of other family and dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, step-mother "Woody" McClure, husband Alfred Curb on Jan. 19, 2006, triplet sisters; Obie Willingham, Ocie Talley and Odie McClure and brothers; Tommy McClure and Troy McClure.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Forest Weast officiating.
Lunch will be served following the service at Twin Oak Baptist Church. Interment will take place at 3:p.m. at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City.
Pallbearers will be: Jim Davis, Kenneth Hester, Glenn Pickle, Tommie Rammage, Larry Roper and Sid Spencer.
Honorary Bearers will be: Dale Bell, Don Bell, Larry McClure, Freddy Talley and Tommie Talley.
