A celebration of life for Seminole resident Ethel Alberta Darnell is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole, with Rev. Glen Pence officiating.
Interment is to follow at Avery Cemetery in Avery, Okla., located near Cushing.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Darnell, 88, died at her home on Sunday, March 23, 2008, after a lengthy illness. She was born on Oct. 10, 1919 in Lamar, Colo., to Elmer Lewis and Mina Louis (Graham) Halstead.
She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Seminole and over the years she has worked in the laundry and restaurant business to help support her family.
Darnell enjoyed crocheting and visiting with family and friends.
Her parents; brothers, Richard and Robert Halstead; husband, Richard Irving Dillon; son, William Leroy Dillon; daughter, Ethel Roberta Devlin; and stepson, Montie James Dillon, preceded her n death.
Surviving are daughters: Nancy Catherine Mullen of Seminole and Jessie Evelyn Villalobos of St. John, Ariz.; sons: Edward Lewis Dillon of Oklahoma City, Richard Irving Dillon, Jr., of Independence, Mo, and George Andy Dillon of Seminole; adopted son, Jack Dennis Darnell, Jr.; stepchildren: Olga Faye Baehr of Mojave, Calif., Mary Francis Halstead of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Leota Mae Riccio of Vermont; sisters: Jessie Mercer of Wisconsin and Lois Wright of Colorado; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers for the services will be: Richard Dillon, James Dillon, Michael Van-Brunt, Sam Van-Brunt, Leroy Halstead and Dewayne Dillon.
Honorary bearers will be: George Dillon, Marshall Dillon, Edward Dillon, Donald Webb, Robert Morris and Richard I. Dillon.
Greta Dobbs
Greta "Jeanette" (Thompson) Dobbs, age 72 died, on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Unity North Health Center, in Shawnee.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, at the Dobbs Family Cemetery, in Asher, located 1½ miles West of Asher on Pleasant Hill Rd.
She was born on Dec. 29, 1935, in Konawa, to A.W. "Dan" Thompson and Cora Beatrice (Neal) Thompson. She married Jack Rudolph Dobbs on July 24, 1951, in Konawa.
Dobbs is survived by her husband, Jack Rudolph Dobbs of the home; two sons, Scott Dale Dobbs, of Asher and Frank DeWayne Dobbs, of Asher; one daughter, Marissa Kay Lyons, of Ardmore; four sisters, Dovie Harms, Helen Sue Barnett, Nancy Davis, and Colou Myers; six grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by parents, Dan and Cora Thompson, and one brother, Donnel Thompson.
Greta Dobbs

Samuel Doran
Funeral services for Konawa resident Samuel Paul Doran are schedule to 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2008, at the Church of Christ in Konawa, with Richard Winters officiating.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.
Interment will follow at Dora Cemetery.
Doran died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at home in Konawa, at the age of 81.
He was born in Duncan to Joe Doran and Wineford (Morgan) Doran.
He married Vera Hudson on Feb. 15, 1974, in Gainesville, Texas.
Doran was a carpenter. He retired from civil service in 1975 after 19 years of service.
He also served in the U.S. Army.
Doran was a member of the Church of Christ in Konawa.
He was a 32nd degree Mason, P.W.P. of Eastern Star P.R.P., Armanth, a Shriner, and a member of the VFW and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Wineford Doran, and five brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Vera, of the home; one son, David Doran of Edmond; two daughters, Retha Plumlee of Tuttle and Carol Banta of Konawa; one brother, Bethel Doran of Hanford, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
David Dossey
David Allen Dossey, age 49, died Monday, Sept. 15, in Oklahoma City.
David was born Sept. 26, 1958, to Delbert and Mary (Stevens) Dossey, in Shawnee.
He graduated from McLoud High School, later attending and graduating from Oklahoma Baptist University.
Dossey married Sharon Stith, on May 8, 1982. He was a school teacher, coach, and bus driver, at Varnum Schools. He also coached the Varnum Academic Bowl, was a collector of history books, and raised Bassett Hounds.
His mother, Mary Dossey; and grandmother, Margaret Stevens preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife; Sharon, 3 daughters; Dana Lamberton, Rachelle Carver, and Kristen and husband Josh Rosamond, son; Jason Dossey, son-in-law; Kent Garton, grandchildren; Tasha Stinnet, Joshua, Rowdy, and Heather Mullendore, Brittany Dossey, and Matthew, and Emily Adams, great-grandsons; Four Garton and Tyson Adams, father; Delbert Dossey, sister; Debrah and husband Doug Roark, niece; Tracey Roark, and nephew; Ryan Roark.
Services are scheduled for Friday, Sept. 19, at 11a.m., at New Beginnings Church. Rev. Larry Sparks will officiate, with internment at Dale Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Walker Funeral Services.
Andrew Douglas
Andrew Douglas, Sr., 86, passed from this life on June 27, 2008.
He was born on May 13, 1922, in Wolf, Oklahoma to Willie Douglas and Mary (Pilot) Douglas.
He was preceded in death by his 1st wife Jenny (Powell) Douglas and his 2nd wife Jean Douglas, also preceding him in death are his parents, brother Roger Cummings, sister Susie Factor, sister Emma Foster, and sister Bertha Sherwood.
Andrew served his country in the United States Army from November 1942 to November 1945 as a Military Policeman in the 1399th Military Police Company.
His military campaigns included Bismrack Archipelago – New Guinea and Southern Philippines – Luzon Ryukyus. Andrew was a member of the Seminole Baptist Church, Konawa, OK.
He will be missed by those who survived him, Obegin Douglas (brother) of Wewoka, OK, B.T. Douglas (brother) of Seminole, OK, Corene White (sister) of Shawnee, OK, Lillibe Harjo (sister) of Kansas; children, JoAnn (Douglas) Coker of Shawnee, OK, and Andrew Douglas, Jr., of Shawnee, Kansas; grandchildren, John Coker, Jason Coker, and Joshua Douglas; great-grandchildren, Jason Coker, Jr., Thomas Coker, Jacob Coker, and Joseph Coker.
Wake Service will be Monday 6pm-8pm. Services to celebrate his life will be 2PM Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at Resthaven Funeral Home with Rev. Houston Tiger officiating.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Shawnee, OK.
Roy Drake Sr
Roy Henry Drake Sr. a decorated Veteran and local author (known in the community as "The Storyteller") passed away peacefully in the company of his loving family on Feb. 11, 2008. He was born on July 14, 1926 in Seminole County (Hoot Owl Bend) Okla., to Capey and Hazel Drake.
On March 12, 1946 he married his lifelong sweetheart Pauline Orsburn Drake. They were married for 61 years.
Roy was a Master Sergeant in World War II and received sixteen medals for duty served in the Pacific Conflict including Okinawa. The medals included the Purple Heart, The Bronze Star and The Medal of Honor
After returning from the service Roy worked for the original AT & T Long Lines as a lineman and engineer. He and Pauline traveled with their children during this time, and in 1964 they settled in Ottawa, Ill., where Roy became the "Go To" man for any Technical problems at AT & T Norway Office.
Roy and Pauline have seven children: Arnold (Sandy) Drake, Roy "Sunny" Drake Jr., Darlene (Jim) Varney, Paula Kalina, Joel Drake, Gary (Janet) Drake, and Roger Drake.
He has 17 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
He is survived by one brother William Drake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ruby, Katie, Elsie, and brother Barty.
Roy will be greatly missed by his family and many friends in the community.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday, with lunch at 12 noon at Midway Baptist Church and services will follow at 2 p.m.
The burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Visitation with the family is scheduled to take place from 6 – 8 p.m. at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
Pallbearers for the services will be: James Orsburn, Pete Orsburn, Henry Orsburn, Kevin Orsburn, Vince Tillery, Greg Miner, Perry Davis and Roger Davis.
Honorary bearers will be: James Davis, Ed Orsburn, Red Self, Jimmy Watters, Auther Orsburn, J.C. Collis, Homer Orsburn, Herb Clark and Homer Garner.
Rose Drescher
A Mass of Catholic burial was held today at 2 p.m. for Seminole native Rose Elizabeth Drescher at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Chapel, Bethany.
Interment followed at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral service, Prague.
Rose Elizabeth Drescher died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008 in her home in Oklahoma City. She was born June 11, 1917 in Seminole.
Rose was involved in the Oklahoma County Dental Society, Catholic Women’s Altar Society, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, Oklahoma County Symphony Women’s Committee, Ladies Music Club of Oklahoma City, Redbud Women’s Club, and numerous other organizations.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Albert R. Drescher; son, Dennis Drescher; daughter, Deanna Margaret Drescher; parents, Matthew Michael and Frances Rose Decker; three brothers and five sisters.
Rose is survived by her sisters, Ann Decker Rogers and Margaret Decker May; daughter, Ceci Parsons of San Antonio, Texas; grandsons, Travis Brown, currently serving in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan, Derek Brown, currently serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Rucker in Alabama, Joe Drescher and family of Houston, Texas, Darshan Drescher Murphy and family of South Easton, Mass.; and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Lois Drewry
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Lois (Blaylock) Drewry are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Chapel of the Chimes Memorial Park and Funeral Home Mission Chapel, Hayward, Calif.
Interment is to follow under the direction of Chapel of the Chimes.
Drewry, 84, died Monday, March 17, 2008. She was born July 14, 1923.
She was a long-term employee of Chip Steak Company of Oakland.
Her husband, Houston Drewry, preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters: Marion LeBarre of Castro Valley, and Annetta J. Lopez of Fremont; four grandsons; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Weldon Blaylock of Seminole.
