Graveside services for Bowlegs native Nora Mae Dunlap are scheduled for 10 a.m. today at the Memorial Pavilion at Mustang Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of McNeil’s Mustang Funeral Service, Mustang.
Nora Mae Dunlap, age 66, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at an Oklahoma City hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born May 13, 1942 in Bowlegs to Ellis and Faye (Hendricks) Casteel and grew up in Seminole.
She was a 1969 graduate of Varnum High School and first moved to Oklahoma City in 1965. After living in Seminole for 20 years and in North Carolina for four years, she returned to Oklahoma City in 1993.
She was a longtime employee of Dillard’s, where she worked in sales. She loved to buy and collect antiques and attended a non-denominational church.
Her parents and one son, Roger Don, preceded her in death.
Nora is survived by her husband, Roger, of the home; one son, Alan Dunlap of Moore; two grandchildren: Britnee and Kane; three brothers: J.D. Casteel of Seminole, David Casteel of Konawa, and Virgil Casteel of Eufaula; one sister, Teresa Lanier of Oklahoma City; and one lifelong friend, Onita Skinner of Enid.
Adelia Dyer
Memorial services for longtime Konawa resident Adelia Marie (Graff) Dyer are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3 at Vista Cemetery with Pastor Pam Shirk officiating.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.
Adelia passed away Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City, at the age of 85. She was born Nov. 17, 1922 in Victoria, Kan., to Andrew Graff and Euphrosina (Wasinger) Graff.
On July 31, 1941 Adelia married E.B. Dyer in Midland, Texas. They resided in the Lubbock, Texas area for almost 40 years, where they owned and operated Dyer Drilling Company.
E.B. and Adelia moved to Konawa in 1972. She was a loving homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother.
Her parents; three brothers: Killian, Johnny, and Frank Graff; and one sister, Evelyn Fross, preceded her in death.
Adelia is survived by her husband, E.B. Dyer of the home; one daughter, Susan Holtman and her husband, Robert, of Konawa; two granddaughters: Jenny Wilson and her husband, John, of Little Elm, Texas, and Cristal Holtman of Seminole; and three great-grandchildren: Julia and Jace Wilson and Amielia Smith.
Flora Eakens
Funeral services for longtime Konawa resident Flora Belle "Lily" Eakens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Konawa with Rev. Darrell Stinnett officiating and Rev. Mona Fulks assisting.
Burial is to follow at Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.
Eakens, 77, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008 at her home. She was born Dec. 17, 1930 in Rush Springs, Okla., to Omer Huel Long and Elen Victoria (Riley) Long.
On Jan. 20, 1947 she married George Otis Cowen in Chickasha and he preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1972. She later married Claude Eakens on June 14, 1989 in Gainesville, Texas and he also preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 2001.
She was a homemaker and member of the Konawa Holiness Pentecostal Church. Eakens enjoyed going to church, playing the guitar, and singing.
Her parents, four brothers and five sisters were among those preceding her in death.
Surviving is daughter, Peggy Stinnett of Konawa; two sons: Raymond Cowen of Okemah and Eddie Cowen of Choctaw; two sisters: Laverne "Teddy" Hair of Hennessey and Lillian Porter of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Serving as casket bearers will be: Nathan Cross, Jason Cowen, Timothy Cowen, Caleb Cowen, Cody Stinnett and Travis Stinnett.
Gwen Edgell
Memorial services for Seminole resident Gwendolyn Ann Edgell are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jack Medlock officiating.
Gwendolyn Ann "Gwen" (Wisdom) Edgell passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 in Seminole County at the age of 68. She was born on July 25, 1939 in Criner, Okla., to Ancel and Betty (Hardage) Wisdom.
She worked for many years at Seminole High School and retired from Seminole State College where she was in food service. She attended every baseball game of Seminole Junior College and was a big fan.
She married Hugh "Don" Edgell on June 1, 1957 in Pauls Valley and he survives her of the home.
She is also survived by two sons: Mike Edgell of Vilonia, Ark., and Kevin and his wife Teresa Edgell of Ft. Gibson, Okla.; two daughters: Lori McKinney of Seminole and Kristy and husband Rick Calhoun of Oktaha, Okla.; one brother, Tom and wife Terri Wisdom of Lindsey, Okla.; two sisters: Beth Kessler of Chickasha, Okla., and Elaine and husband Bernie Garner of Jarrettsville, Md.; brother-in-law, Walter Edgell of Sparta, Wis.; and four grandchildren: Trent and Dalton Martin of Oktaha, Okla., and Rachel and Jessica Edgell of Galva, Ill.
She is preceded in death his parents, Ancel and Betty Wisdon, and special brothers-in-law: Bud Kessler and Leroy Edgell.
Mildred Edwards
Mildred Lorene Edwards, age 90, of Washington, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Sunset Estates Nursing Home, in Purcell.
She was born Jan. 21, 1918, in Konawa, the oldest of 4 children born to Donald Webster Lowry and Elva Ethel (Herndon) Lowry.
She was raised in Konawa and graduated from Vamoosa Schools. She married Nathan Roosevelt Edwards. Sept. 17, 1936, in Konawa. Together they raised 3 daughters, Janet, Joan and Jean. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in various towns in Oklahoma before settling in Washington in 1948.
Edwards worked as a homemaker, caring and providing for her family. In her later years, she and her husband spent time at the Washington Senior Citizens Center playing cards with their friends. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet Atnip, of Washington, Joan McClard, of Noble and Jean Rider, of Moore; sister, Amelia Phelphs, of Konawa; brother, Tony Lowry, of Konawa; 6 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; and 1 great-great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan; parents, Donald and Elva Lowry; and brother, Kenneth Lowry.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday Dec. 19, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Dennis Fulks officiating.
Burial will be at the Washington Cemetery under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home.
Lynette Ellis
Graveside services for lifelong Seminole resident Lynette Susan Ellis are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008 at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka.
Rev. Gary Wilburn will officiate.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Ellis died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008 at Unity Health Center North in Shawnee at the age of 40.
She was born to Joe K. Ellis and Alyce Dae (Sowers) Ellis on Aug. 2, 1967 in Oklahoma City.
Ellis graduated from Seminole High School in 1984 and worked as a receptionist at Mental Health Services of Southern Oklahoma in Seminole.
She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Seminole.
Ellis is survived by her parents, Joe K. and Alyce (Sowers) Ellis, Seminole; one sister, Stephanie A. Ellis, Red Oak; one brother, John K. Ellis, Bethany; and a host of uncles, aunts and dear friends including Karla Beatty, Wanette and Glenn Denwalt, Red Oak.
The family would like to express heartfelt appreciation for all of the loving care given by Dr. Rodney McCrory, Dr. Tony Haddad, Unity Health Services and Nurse Emma Lou.
William Ellis
Funeral services for William Lee Ellis, relative of Wewoka residents, are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at the Gleaners Holiness Church in Wewoka, with Rev. Larry Chesser officiating.
Services are under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home of Wetumka.
Interment will follow in the Mountain Home Cemetery near Quinton.
Ellis died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the age of 49, while visiting with family.
He was born Aug. 1, 1958, in Oklahoma City, to Elmer and Velma Ellis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Stevie Ellis and Calvin Selmon; and a sister, Louella Lane.
Ellis is survived by his wife of 32 years, Alene of the home; son, William Ellis Jr.; two daughters, Jennifer Kaylor of Wewoka and Christina Green of Muskogee; five brothers; two sisters; and three grandchildren.
He was active in the Gleaners Holiness Church where he served as a deacon.
Pallbearers include John Swaddley, Phillip Kaylor, Christophor Bohannan, Derryck Bohannan, Doss Green, and Dean Walker.
Freddie Emmitt
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Freddie Don Emmitt Sr. are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Temple of Praise Church, Seminole, with Rev. Harold Turner officiating.
Interment is to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, Seminole. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Fred, 69, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, April 9, 2008. He was born April 20, 1938 in Earlsboro to Donald Turner Emmitt Jr. and Frances Emaline (Earles) Emmitt.
He attended school in Pleasant Grove and Seminole until he entered into the US Navy in 1955. He was honorably discharged in 1961 from full time and reserve service.
He married Pearl Dea Bailey on Sept. 27, 1963 in Ochelata, Okla. Pearl survives him of the home.
A truck driver, Fred retired from Sooner Trading in 2002. He and Pearl had made their home in Seminole since 1987.
Fred is also survived by his children and their spouses; Donald Arthur and Debbie Emmitt of Fresno, Calif., Freddie Don Jr. and Sharon Emmitt, Leah Dawn and Thomas Thompson, and Donald Turner and Kristy Emmitt, all of Seminole; and one sister, Donna Sue Emmitt.
He is also survived by six grandchildren; Timothy Don Emmitt, Brittany Dawn Jones, Bo Wayne Jones, Dusty Lee Emmitt, Blake Ryan Emmitt and Ryan Andrew Emmitt.
Pallbearers include Jeff Earles, Tommy Farrow, Larry Arnett, Doyne Bailey, Lonnie Bailey, and Mark Earles.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Earles, Matt Earles, Jasper Emmitt, and Rick Emmitt.
Mark Emmons
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Mark Hayward Emmons are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Little Cemetery Chapel located at Little Cemetery with Jimmy Moreland officiating.
Interment is to follow under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Emmons died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008 in Shawnee at the age of 28. He was born on May 23, 1979 in Cartherage, Texas to Sandra Kay (Willhoite).
He was diagnosed at the age of nine with Muscular Dystrophy and attended Seminole Public Schools and was affiliated with the Pentecostal church.
His grandparents preceded him in death.
Surviving is his mother and father, Sandy and Bobby Joe McDaniel of Seminole; three sisters: Kathy Kroger of Okmulgee, Christy Norman of Seminole, and Kimberly Robinson of Oklahoma City; two stepsisters: Tracy McDaniel Creger and Shelly McDaniel, both of Oklahoma City.
