Memorial services for former Seminole resident, Patricia Gumerson Gipson, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at McFarlin Methodist Church in Norman.

Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home, Norman.

Patti Gipson, 70, of Norman, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at Norman Regional Hospital. She was born in Tonkawa, Okla., on Jan. 30, 1937 to Ralph and Mable Gumerson..

She attended public schools in Guthrie, and was the Valedictorian of her graduating class in 1955. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at the University of Oklahoma and was named the Outstanding Senior Woman by the Mortar Board in 1958.

Gipson graduated Phi Beta Kappa in English Literature and received her masters in 1959.

In 1959 she married Fred Gipson. While living in Washington D.C. she wrote newsletters for the Chase Manhattan Bank and the East West Trade Council.

Fred, Patti and their children moved to Seminole in 1974. Patti taught at the Seminole Junior College.

Later she edited a newsletter and was the research director for the Energy Consumers and Producers Association.

In this capacity she testified before the Senate Finance Committee, House Ways and Means Committee, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and became a recognized expert in energy regulations affecting the oil and gas industry.

Patti was very active in the First Methodist Church serving on various boards; and was also involved in many of Seminole’s civic, social, and philanthropic organizations. In 1981 she was named Seminole’s Citizen of the Year.

In 1988, Fred and Patti moved to Norman where Patti became an active member of the Assistance League of Norman.

Patti poured her heart and soul into the projects of the Assistance League. Her dedication and passion really shined through for Operation School Bell.

Patti remained a scholar all of her life and was an avid reader. She had been an active member of the University of Oklahoma chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and had served as treasurer for a number of years.

The following year, George and Mary moved back to Bowlegs.

He was parking officer until the parking meters were removed.

George also worked in the Sanitation and Maintenance Departments.

He retired from the City of Seminole in 1992 with 37 years of service.

George also worked for Seminole County as the Custodian for District Court and Drug Court where he continued to be employed until his death.

He will be greatly missed.
