Marjorie Glenn

Wewoka resident Marjorie C. Glenn, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the age of 84 years.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Michael Vallandingham officiating.

Marjorie was born August 9, 1923, in Purcell, Okla., to Javan Tyrus and Vera Edna (Gentry) Green.

She attended Wayne Public Schools and was owner of State Beauty Supply in Shawnee, Okla., for more than 20 years.

She was also an LPN and of the Baptist faith.

Marjorie married Leo E. Glenn on April 9, 1973, in Grayson County, Texas. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1985.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, and baby sister Margaret V. Green.

Survivors include her son, Jay T. Copeland of Grand Junction, Colo.; daughters, Tammy Ferguson of Grand Junction, Colo., and Chimen Lafollet of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister: Barbara G. Rachel of Wewoka; two grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Also surviving Glenn are nephew Paul Rachel of Ada; niece Carol R. Carpenter of Centerton, Ark., and a number of other relatives and friends.

Olney Gober

Olney Kenneth Gober, 76, of Shawnee, passed away Friday, Sept. 5, in Shawnee.

Graveside service will be 2p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Cummins Cemetery, in Maud.

Johnny Stephens is officiating, assisted by David Pollard, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

The family will be at the funeral home to greet friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Kenneth was born March 11, 1932 in Maud, to Gerkin and Helen Dickey-Gober. He attended Rock Springs Elementary School and graduated from Maud High School in 1952. He entered the US Army in 1952 and was stationed in Ft. Lewis Washington until honorably discharged.

On July 18, 1953 he married Phyllis Jeanne Horn. Upon leaving the service they resided in California until moving back to Oklahoma in 1964.

Kenneth and Phyllis raised three sons Wayne, Dale and Paul Gober. He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis in Dec. of 1994. On Nov. 27, 1996 he married Betty Rawls, and they resided in Shawnee.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Gober; father: Gerkin Gober; mother: Helen Dickey-Gober; sister: Sue Gober-Richards; father-in-law: Albert Horn; and brothers-in-law: Richard Horn and Roland Tiffin.

He is survived by his wife; Betty of the home, Mother-in-Law; Vernull Horn, of Shawnee, Sons and Daughters-in-Law; Wayne and Terry Gober, of Shawnee, Dale and Christy Gober, of Oklahoma City, Paul and Valerie Gober, of Seminole, Step-Children and their spouses; Carolyn and Jay Aldridge, of Kinta, Troy Jr. and Patti Rawls, of Earlsboro, Brothers and Sisters; Erma Tiffin, of Calif., Harold Gober and wife Towana, of Shawnee, Gerkin Gober, Jr. and wife Patty of Calif., Donna Weatherly and husband David, of Tecumseh, and Ronald Gober and wife Sonya,of Tulsa, as well as 10 Grandchildren and many Great-Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews and a host of friends.

Josie Gonyer

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel, in Wewoka, with Rev. Wesley Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Josie Beulah Wyatt Gonyer was born to Rube and Maude (Allen) Wyatt, at home in the Kight Community on Jan. 16, 1919. She went to be with loved ones who went on before her on Oct. 23, at Valley View Hospital, in Ada.

She attended Kight and Sasakwa schools. She was baptized at a young age in Pure pond, west of Kight School.

Josie and A.G. Gonyer were united in McAlester, on Dec. 2, 1936. They enjoyed a happy marriage of nearly 72 years, mostly spent in the Sasakwa area.

She worked at Big Yank, in Wewoka and Michael Casuals, in Konawa. Josie was an excellent wife, mother and grandmother and set a good example for her family.

Before her declining health she loved camping, crappie fishing and spent many days with nine young grandchildren, family and many good friends, at Lake Eufaula.

She was a very good cook and started making her famous fudge at 9 years old. Josie and A.G. also raised a vegetable garden for many years.

Josie is preceded in death by an infant daughter Maudie Marie (1947); a grandson, Kent Ward (2007); 2 granddaughters Glenda Biggs (1960) and Linda Biggs Van Tassel (2001); a great-grandson Henry Griffith (2005); a son-in-law Tommy Dale Harris (2002); her parents; and all of her siblings, Newt, Othor, Bill, Donald (Dugan) and Rube Wyatt Jr., Oval Bridgewater, Georgia Feeley and Iva McDonald.

She will be greatly missed by her family, husband A.G., of the home, daughters Wanda and husband Bob Biggs, and Judy Harris, all of Sasakwa, Anita Gonyer, of Seminole, grandchildren: Terri Hoffman, Paula Thomas, of Oklahoma City, Sharon Griffith, of Holdenville, Karen Herrin and Dale Harris, of Ada, Suzy Curtis, of Seminole and Chad Ward, of Wetumka, twenty-three great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and two due early 2009, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are her grandson and great-grandsons.

Honorary Bearers are Josie’s many neighbors, who are wonderful.

Mary Goodfellow

Memorial graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Mary Emogene Goodfellow are to be held at a later date in Hendrick, Okla.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Mary Emogene (Guinn) Goodfellow, age 86, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008 at Seminole Estates Nursing Center. Mary was born Nov. 27, 1921 in Seymore, Texas to Capt. Wraught and Mary Emma (Chennault) Guinn.

Mary met and then married Frank Taylor Goodfellow on Jan. 30, 1940 in Olton, Texas. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1951 in Altus.

She was a homemaker and moved to Seminole in 1979 from Altus, Okla. Mary was a longtime member of the Ideal Street Baptist Church.

Mrs. Goodfellow is survived by one son, Wiiliam Goodfellow of Mounds, Okla.; two daughters and sons-in-law: Wanda and LeRoy Richardson of Muskogee, and Mary and Jim Blakely of Seminole; one sister, Flora Dean Hite of Vernon, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Her parents; husband; and two sons: Robert Lee Goodfellow and Roy Frank Goodfellow, preceded her in death.

Larkin Goodrich

Services for longtime Konawa resident Larkin Monroe Goodrich are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Konawa with Pastor Drew Isaacs officiating.

Burial is to follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.

Larkin Goodrich, 75, departed this life on Monday, April 21, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born June 28, 1932 in Konawa to Escar Frank Goodrich and Freda (Pairet) Goodrich.

On Dec. 21, 1958 he married Bonnie McIntyre in Seminole. He worked as a project engineer for the U.S. Government federal Highway Division, having retired in 1982.

His parents and three sisters: Wanda Williams, Ada Mae Marvelli and Mary Clark, preceded him in death.

Surviving is the mother of his children, Bonnie Goodrich of Oklahoma City; one son, Kevin Goodrich of Oklahoma City; two daughters: Pamela Yohe of Denver, Colo., and Karen Goodrich of Oklahoma City; four brothers: E.E. Goodrich and Charles Goodrich, both of Konawa, Ralph Goodrich of Bakersfield, Calif., and Jack Goodrich of Abilene, Texas; grandchildren: Terence Goodrich of Denver, Colo., Nicole Ortega, Alexandra Ortega, and Jeffrey Ortega, all of Oklahoma City, and Ronnie Ortega of Denver, Colo.

Mata Gorske

Funeral services for Mata Gorske were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel, Kilgore, Texas.

Burial is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole.

Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home, Kilgore.

Gorske, 85 of Kilgore, died Saturday, March 29, 2008 in Kilgore. She was born April 3, 1922 to Will and Zona Johnson.

She worked as Secretary to the Superintendent of Kilgore Independent School District for 39 years and was in charge of payroll for the entire school district.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Surviving is her sister, Imogene Gossage of Kilgore.

Grant Grady

Funeral services for Konawa native Grant "Dink" Stanley Grady are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Konawa, with Rev. John Basden officiating.

Burial is to follow at Konawa Cemetery with services under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.

Grady, 81, died Thursday, June 12, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was born Jan. 17, 1927 in Konawa to Hubert and Delpha (Smith) Grady.

He was raised in the Summers Chapel are outside of Konawa. Grady enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country in the 82nd Airborne during World War II.

Grady married Paula Monroe, and they were married for over 30 years before she preceded him in death in 1994.

He was a longtime Midwest City resident before moving to Stigler to live with his sister, Dorothy. Grady was a carpenter for many years.

His parents; one daughter, Deborah Yvonne Grady; one son, Davyd Whitely; one sister, Johnnie Mae Weldon; and one brother, Joseph Smith, also preceded him in death.

Surviving are sons: Kymn Converse of Grove, Randy Grady of Choctaw, Stan Grady of Edmond, and Kevyn Whitely of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Dorothy Mae Blevins of Stigler; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Serving as casket bearers will be: Kymn Converse, Randy Grady, Kevyn Whitely, Chris Converse, Chad Converse, and Chas Grady.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jessie Grant

Jessie Francis (Sumpter) Grant, age 90, died Monday, Dec. 15, at Jan Frances Care Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at the Assembly of God Church, in Sasakwa, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, of Konawa. Pastor Wesley Martin will officiate.

Grant was born on March 2, 1918, in Braggs, to Elias E. "Polly" Sumpter and Susie (Sumter) Sumpter. She married Tollie Grant April 18, 1938, in Phoenix, Ariz. She was the Director of Activities for Tucker Nursing Home, and she was a member of the Assembly of God Church, in Sasakwa, Oklahoma.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Jones, of Sasakwa and Martha Tyler, of Konawa; two brothers, Vernon Sumpter, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dib Sumpter, of Phoenix Ariz.; and sister, Pauline Choate, of Hemphill, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elias and Susie Sumpter; husband, Tollie Grant; two sons, Tollie Newton Grant, Jr., and James Grant; two brothers, Walter and Richard Sumpter; and one sister, Etta Ruth Sumpter.

Pallbearers are Kevin Grant, John W. Story, II, Brad Story, Willie Grant, Travis Harjo, and Tyler Harjo.

Honorary Pallbearers are Bill Cloud, James Tollie Grant, R.L. Grant, and Richard Grant.

Daisy Gray

Daisy Prentice Gray, age 93, of Maud, passed away Nov. 24. She was born Aug. 16, 1915, in Bethany. She graduated from Capital Hill High school in 1933.

Mimi, as she was known to her family, was one, of the "greatest generation." After growing up during the Great Depression, she worked during World War II in a defense plant before becoming a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. She was chief operator in Maud for many years, and then worked at offices in Seminole and Shawnee. She retired from Southwestern Bell after more than 30 years of service.

She married Alvah "Pappas" Gray, of Maud, in 1954, and they spent many happy years together.

Her hobbies were sewing, shopping, and traveling, and she did each with great enthusiasm. Upon retirement she spent many hours making baby clothes and blankets, which she donated to Children’s Hospital and other charities.

She could shop with the best of them and rarely missed out on a bargain or an opportunity to find one. She loved to travel, especially to visit family and friends, and a trip with her was an adventure for all involved.

She was devoted to her community and donated many handmade quilts to be raffled for various causes. Mimi was a founding member and instrumental in establishing the Maud Nutrition Center.

She was as good a mother, grandmother and great grandmother as one could hope for. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her "favorite" son-in-law, Jimmy Starns, of Seminole; her sister, Katherine Alamada, and husband Gilbert, of Rio Vista, Calif.; a son, Jimmie Barnes, and wife Deborah, of Hoover, Ala.; grandchildren John Starns, of Maud, Jimilu Starns and partner Brett Bivin, of Shawnee; Allison Barnes Burden and husband Adam, of Tampa, Fla.; Susannah Barnes and partner Heather Henry, of Mukwonago, Wis.; Rebecca Barnes, of Tallahassee, Fla; and great-grandchildren, Bodhi Starns, Rance Starns, Abigail Burden, Adam Burden, Jr. and Anne-Marie Burden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Audrey Prentice; her first husband, Johnnie Barnes, of Dundee, Texas; her husband, Alvah Gray; her sisters, Lilly Kirby and Crystal Archer; her daughter and best friend, Johnita Starns; her daughter-in-law, Sandee Barnes and her grand daughter, Jennifer Barnes.

The family would like to express its appreciation to the caregivers who gave her assistance and comfort and enjoyed doing crafts with her, Wanda, Kim, Linda and Glenda and to Angelic Hospice and its caring and thoughtful staff.

Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home, in Maud.
