Funeral Services for Nellie Rose Green are scheduled for Dec. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Saltillo Christian Church in Salem, Ind. with Joshua Brumfield officiating.
Burial will follow in Saltillo Cemetery with visitation being held on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Weathers funeral Home and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Green, 80, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 30 at Meadowview Health Care Center in Salem.
She was born on Aug. 15, 1927 in Washington County, near Hardinsburg to Elza and Lorain Ridener Highfill and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge #238 in Seminole.
Lowry married William R. Green in June 1944.
She was a retired employee of Travelers in Orleans and a former employee of goodwill Industries and Meadowview Health Care Center and was a member of Saltillo Christian Church.
Her husband, parents and grandson, Caleb Green, precede her in death.
She is survived by four sons, Gary L. Green, Salem, Forber E. Green of Greencastle, Ind., Williams E. Green, Bedford, Ind., roger D. Green, Tulsa; brother, Larry Cooper, Hardinsburg Ind., four sisters, Dorothy Farris, Saltilla, Ind., Darlene White of Campbellsburg, Ind., Linda and Rita Cooper, both of Hardinsburg; thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Terry Griffis
Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident Terry Ray Griffis are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Wewoka.
Burial is to follow at Westwood Cemetery, with Rev. B.G. Renfro of Parkers Chapel Baptist Church officiating.
Services are under the direction of Myers Mortuary in Wewoka.
Griffis, 57 of Del City, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the VA Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born Oct. 28, 1950 in Seminole to Freddie Griffis and Mary Lee (Brooks) Griffis.
He received his education in the Douglass Schools and graduated in 1955, and then he graduated from Wewoka High School on May 24, 1968.
Griffis joined Rock Jill Baptist Church and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. A.D. Knighton.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and then in the National Guard for six years. Griffis worked at Tinker Air Force Base in the Sheet Metal Fabrication Department for 34 years.
His parents; one brother, Arthur Ray; and one sister, Shirley Ann, preceded him in death.
Surviving are sons: Thomas and Derrick of Earlsboro and Tracey of San Diego, Calif.; daughter, Marquetta Griffis of Oklahoma City; sister, Sharon Griffis of Wewoka; brothers: James of Norman, Kerry of Los Angeles, Calif., Oliver Barkus of Tulsa, Anthony Wayne, Hiawatha and Edward James of Oklahoma City, Freddie Jr. of Wetumka, and Anthony DeWayne of Yukon; and 12 grandchildren.
Ruby Griffith
Private family services for Seminole resident Ruby Jewel Griffith have been held, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Griffith died Saturday, July 19, 2008, in Seminole, at the age of 98.
She was born Nov. 3, 1909, in Newcastle, to Walter Moore and Ruby Jewel Moore.
She married Homer Williams Griffith, who preceded her in death on April 9, 1978.
Ruby Griffith came to Seminole from Hobart in 1933. She was a member of Ideal Street Baptist Church, and was the founder and co-owner of Cash Auto Supply and Western Store in Seminole.
Griffith was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Seminole Roundup Club, Quilting Bee, and the Ceramics Art Club.
Griffith was preceded in death by her parents, one son, her husband, four sisters, and one brother.
She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Jean Berry of Seminole; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Novella Grisso
Graveside services for former Seminole and Shawnee resident Novella Fern "Babe" (Redwine) Grisso are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Little Cemetery with Rev. Redmond Wolf officiating.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Grisso, 90, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 at Bartlesville Care Center, where she has lived for the past three and a half years. She was born June 16, 1917 in Denison, Texas to Albert Andrew Redwine and Sally Amanda (Mosley) Redwine.
On Dec. 23, 1934 she married L.T. "Pete" Grisso in Varnum. She retired from Pioneer Nursing Home after working there for 22 years.
Her parents; husband (march 1, 1991); two daughters, Carolyn and Dorothy; one granddaughter; and one son, preceded her in death.
Surviving is one son, Gary Grisso of Seminole; two daughters: Marge Laffoon of Shawnee and Linda Jarrell of Bartlesville; one sister, Nona Clements of Barnsdall, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Stanley Grisso
Stanley Warren Grisso, 56-year old former Seminole resident died Sept. 24, in Sparks, Nev. He was born March 31, 1952, in Seminole, to Audy K. Grisso and Francis (Baxter) Grisso.
He served in the United States Air Force, earning the rank of Sergeant.
Survivors include one brother, Joe Grisso, of Seminole and one sister, Kay Adam, of Sparks, Nev.
His parents and one brother, Gene Grisso, preceded him in death.
A graveside cremation memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 2p.m., at Little Cemetery. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate the service.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Seminole.
Nelda Guinn
Funeral services for longtime St. Louis, Okla., resident Nelda Fern (Moody) Guinn are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Trinity Baptist Church in Maud with longtime family friends, Glenn and Dale Williams, to officiate.
Interment is to follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud. Arrangements are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home, Maud.
Nelda, 79, passed from this life on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born Jan. 24, 1929 in Herber Springs, Ark., to parents Ophelia Bell (Hunt) Moody and Ellis Moody.
On Oct. 5, 1944 Nelda married Emral Guinn in Seminole. Throughout her life, she wore many hats. She worked as a butcher at Safeway grocery store in Shawnee for over 20 years.
That is when she, along with her husband Emral, bought their first oil well. This was the beginning of Guinn Oil Company, which was founded in 1965. The couple still own and operate the Company to this day.
She has been a devoted wife, mother, and granny; as well as a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Maud.
Her parents and one sister, Rogene Worl, who died Dec. 15, 2007, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Emral Guinn of the home in St. Louis; one daughter and son-in-law, Wynema "Winnie" Marshalee (Guinn) and Bill Buley of Saint Louis, Okla.; one chosen son, Jr. Williams and his wife Connie of Saint Louis, Okla., (Nelda always jokingly said, "she wore him home on her boots and Emral just had to get use to him"); one brother and sister-in-law, Stanley Leon Moody and his wife Ina of Shawnee; two granddaughters and their husbands: Matona and Mark Haynes and Maleea and TyRay Brock all of Maud; and three great-grandchildren: Emral Layn Haynes, Matraya Erralee Haynes and TyLee Fern Brock; nieces: Airawona "Roshel" (Moody) Stabel and her husband Stewart of Lakin, Kan., and Christie Kay (Moody) McClaskey and her husband Gary of Maud; step-grandchildren, Burl Buley and his wife Cathy of Franklin, Tenn., Randy Kenyon and his wife Kay of Newcastle, Okla., and Jerrel Buley and his wife Shalisa of Harrah; and Jr. William’s daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Jace Beverage of Saint Louis, Okla.
Richard Gunter
Funeral services for Richard Gunter Sr., are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Heartland Family Church, located at 214 West Strother Avenue in Seminole.
Interment will follow at Little Cemetery north of Seminole with military honors. Rev. Bill Chesser will officiate the service.
Richard Gunter, Sr., 63 year-old longtime Seminole resident passed from this life and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 22, 2008 north of Seminole in a tragic auto accident.
He was born Nov. 15, 1944 in Okmulgee to parents Robert Lee Gunter and Ida Mae (Raney) Gunter.
Richard attended Okmulgee Public Schools and served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967, where he earned the National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He married Donna Southern on May 4, 1963 in Okmulgee.
Richard had worked as a truck driver until he became manager for the Sherwin William’s paint store in Seminole where he worked for several years. He was currently working as a surveillance operator for the Firelake Grand Casino in Shawnee.
Richard was also involved with his community as a former member and 32 Degree Mason of the Seminole Masonic Lodge. Richard also helped during the Seminole, "Gusher Day’s" festival. He was a member of the Cornerstone Tabernacle Church in Sasakwa.
He leaves to cherish is memory his wife of 45 years, Donna Gunter and their beloved miniature dachshund, "Missy", of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard Gunter, Jr. and wife Tanya Gunter; one daughter, Rhonda (Gunter) Kanard; mother-in-law, Ricky Southern of Henryetta; two grandsons, Bailey Gunter and his companion Kristen Stith of Wewoka and J.T. Gunter of Wewoka; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Dolly Gunter of Park City, Mont., and Coy and Ruth Gunter of Okmulgee; one sister, Alma Huddleston of Okmulgee; three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cleta Southern of Muskogee, Thea and Bob Repsher of Okmulgee, and Vickie and Eddie Mosco of Henryetta.
A few hours after Richard’s accident, his first great-granddaughter was born, Braylee Breann Gunter of Wewoka.
Richard is preceded in death by; his parents; one brother Floyd Gunter in November 2007; his father-in-law, "Bunny" Southern in October 2007 and one brother-in-law, Garland Southern in 1970.
Casket bearers will be; Jason Brinker, Kevin Merriman, Jr., Phillip Hogue, Josh Merriman, Tony Powell and Hugh Megee.
Honorary bearers will be; Zach Megee, Gavin Megee, Kevin Merriman, Sr., William Chesser, Billy Chesser and Cliff Ruminer.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Mary Gustin
Graveside services for Wewoka resident Mary Gustin are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka.
Rev. Amanda Lockwood will officiate.
Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka.
Mary died in her home on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the age of 78, after having a great visit with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on Friday.
Mary was born in Holdenville to Agnes Emback and Paul Gille on Oct. 14, 1929.
She married Merle Gustin on April 9, 1947 in Fort Smith, Ark. He preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 2000.
Mary was an avid golfer and a long time member of the Wewoka Golf and Country Club, the Wewoka Golf Association, and the Ladies Golf Association.
Some of her fondest memories were of playing golf with friends, teaching her grandchildren to play golf; and memories of being able to play golf as a partner with Wewoka’s Dr. Gil Morgan during a local golf competition, where they came in first place.
She also volunteered as a worker and a cook during many of the yearly Wewoka Pokacheeta Golf Tournaments.
Mary worked as a seamstress and retired as a designer for Lillian Russell, Inc., and Custom Sizes dress manufacturing in Wewoka.
During her life in Wewoka, she was able to work as a Cub Scout Den Mother, and at one time, displayed pioneer keepsakes at the Wewoka museum.
On Mother’s Day, Easter, and other holidays, Mary worked with Merle and her boys making corsages, and delivering Easter Lillies and Christmas poinsettias around Wewoka.
Mary’s great cooking will be missed holidays, birthdays, and even at the simplest family get to gathers.
Mary is survived by her brother John and sister-in-law Elwanda Gille; her sister, Pat Feagin; son Tony and his wife Cherryl; son Paul and his wife Peggy; five grandchildren and their spouses; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pall Bearers will be Steve Sothhward, Paul Gustin, Tony Gustin, Jay Gustin, Micah Gustin, Mark Gustin, and Ben Gustin.
