Dorotha Jane Houser

Funeral services for lifelong Wewoka resident Jane Houser are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Mission Home Missionary Baptist Church, where she has been a active member since 1934, with Pastor Delmar Hume of Mission Home Missionary Baptist Church officiating, assisted by Bro. Larry Jones. Interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Jane was born Jan. 31, 1918 in Wewoka, Okla., to James William (Bill) Sr. and Rena (Haning) Moreland. She and Clifton Houser were married Nov. 28, 1935 at Wewoka, Okla. She was a homemaker and seamstress.

Jane was an active member of Mission Home Missionary Baptist Church. She was also active in the Butner Home Demonstration Club, judging at the Seminole County Fair and 4-H Club Dress Reviews.

Preceding Jane in death are her parents, Bill and Rena Moreland, husband Clifton Houser, Feb. 19, 2004, one sister Gussie Colleen Moreland, and one great grandson Bryce Maylen.

Survivors include: daughter, Melva June Houser Tate and Burney, Lima, Peru; son, Dan Clifton Houser and Phyllis, Wewoka, Okla.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters and their spouses: Lorene Romano and Joe, Missouri City, Texas, Leeta Drewey, Lafayette, La., Marion Cain, Ardmore, Okla., Nelda Jo Martin, Claremore, Okla.; brothers and their spouse: James (Bud) Moreland Jr. and Betty Wewoka, Okla., and Jackie (Porky) Moreland Eufaula, Okla.

Jane will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Services under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Justin Howard
Nathan Howard

Funeral services for brothers, Justin Ray Howard and Nathan DeAngelo Howard, were held today at 2 p.m. at Rock Spring Indian Baptist Church in Sasakwa.

Interment followed at Walton Family Cemetery in Sasakwa. Services were under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.

Justin and Nathan died early Saturday, March 8, 2008 in a tragic accident west of Sasakwa.

Justin was born May 8, 1992 and Nathan was born June 6, 1994, both in Oklahoma City, to parents, Phillip Ray Howard and Sheree Hill.

Justin was a freshman at Sasakwa Public Schools and he enjoyed playing football and riding motorcycles.

Nathan was a seventh grader at Sasakwa Public Schools and he enjoyed being with his big brother and playing video games.

Surviving are their parents of the home; two sisters: Tesha Howard of Oklahoma City and Tatyanna Marks of the home; and grandparents: Bernice Benefield of Shawnee, Don and Bessie Hill of Sasakwa, Dale and Teresa Williams of Purcell, and Marie and Lalo Castillo of Oklahoma City.

James Huddleston

James Malcolm Huddleston, 81, passed away peacefully June 27, 2008. He was born in Konawa, Okla., on Oct. 15, 1926.

He is preceded in death by the grandparents who raised him, Willie and Jim Anders, his mother Thetus Marie Anders Shannon, his father Jack Huddleston, his son Gary Malcolm Hunddleston, and his beloved wife of 57 years, Jo Ann (Jody) Hostetter Huddleston.

His goal in life was to do the very best he could with the talents that God gave him.

Malcolm was known as Pocko Anders in his preteen years.

He graduated from Konawa High School in 1944.

Music was his passion and he was the first chair coronet player each year. In his senior year, he was the drum major.

He was given the achievement award at graduation and was the salutatorian of his class.

After graduation, he enlisted in the Naval Air Corps, leaving Konawa on Dec. 25, 1944, for basic training in Memphis.

In the Naval Air Corps, he was trained in radio, radar, and gunnery.

After the service, he attended Oklahoma University where he graduated as a pharmacist in 1949. He spent 25 years with the Walgreen’s Drug Company as a store manager, district manager, and regional director.

He then moved on to become the president of a local company in Houston, Texas, before retiring at the age of 59.

He spent the next 20 years touring the United States, Canada, and Europe with his wife and best friend, Jody.

Malcolm is survived by his daughter Linda Beth Huddleston Cain; her husband Robert Ryan Cain; their three children, Ashlie Cain Souders and her husband Brandon Robert Souders, Melissa Cain, and Ryan Austin Cain.

He is also survived by his granddaughter Jena Anne Huddleston and her mother Mary Navarra Huddleston.

Memorial services were held on Wednesday, July 2, in the chapel of Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas.

Clariece Huddleston

Clariece Huddleston, 93, Longtime Seminole resident, died Friday, Oct. 17, at Solara Hospital, in Shawnee. Clariece was born Sept. 28, 1915, in Seminole, to Jones Linn and Maude (Burton) Spencer.

Clariece grew up in the Seminole area and attended Seminole Public Schools and graduated from Seminole High School. She married Frank Huddleston on Dec. 21, 1934 in Seminole. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1977. She spent several years away from Seminole while Frank was working around the United States.

Clariece was a longtime member of the Seminole Church of Christ, which she and her family were some of the earliest members and helped to establish the church in Seminole. She remained faithful and active in the church till her death.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lucille Russell, of Tucson, Ariz. and Augusta Pearl Russell, of Aztec, N.M., one brother Vernon Spencer, of Seminole, 9 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren and 6 Great Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews, good friend and caretaker Peggy West, of Seminole and her close friends Jack and Kay Mattingly, of Seminole, and her very loving poodle, Jamie, her faithful companion.

Services are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. at the Seminole Church of Christ and Burial at Maple Grove Cemetery with Christ Stinnett officiating.

Casket Bearers will be, Harold Ellison, Harley Howard, Bill West, Jack Mattingly, Sr., Thurman Edwards and Lee Stilwell with honorary bearers of Cecil Sullivan, Gary Snow, Charles Johnston, Lee Pippin and James Vanlandingham.

In Lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Tipton's Children's home and Manuelita Children’s Home, in Gallup, N.M.

Lester Hughes

Lester William "Bill" Hughes, 84 year-old long time Seminole resident died, Monday, Aug. 18, at Pioneer Care Center in Seminole.

He was born March 21, 1924 in Fulton, Mo., to parents Thomas Hughes and Ella (Walton) Hughes.

Hughes grew up in Fredrick, before moving to Oklahoma City, then to Seminole in 1952.

He married Geraldine Foster and she preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 2004.

He also served in the United States Air Force.

Hughes worked as a diesel mechanic for several years then owned a chicken farm east of Seminole for many years. He was a member of the Seminole First Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons and, Steve Hughes of Seminole and Jerry Hughes of Edmond. Other survivors include one brother, Carroll Hughes of Temple, Texas and one sister, Irene Alexander of Norman, also five grandchildren.

Hughes was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Geraldine Hughes; one son, Harold Hughes; two brothers; two sisters and three grandchildren.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 22, at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Clevia Hughey

Former Seminole resident Clevia Hughey passed away on Saturday, Dec. 27, at Integris Seminole Medical Center at the age of 80.

Clevia was born on March 14, 1928, in Lyman, S.C. to William and Lillie (Hammond) Campbell. She married W. Glen Hughey on May 31, 1947 in South Carolina.

She attended Cumberland University and Furman University where she received her education in teaching. She taught Middle School in Anderson, S.C. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Seminole.

She is survived by her husband, Glen Hughey, of the home, in Prague; son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Lyn Hughey, of Prague; two daughters and sons-in-law, Adria and J.R. Bumpous, of Houston, Texas and Linda and Mark Key, of Bartlesville. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the First Baptist Church, in Seminole, with Dr. Tommy Clark officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 420 Reid Street, Seminole, 74868 in Cleiva’s memory.

Charlene Hulsey

Services for Charlene Hulsey, 74, of Fittstown, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at Faith Assembly of God Church, in Ada. Revs. Don Venable, Johnny Rolen and Greg Pollard will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mrs. Hulsey died Tuesday, Nov. 4, at a local hospital. She was born July 9, 1934, in Stonewall, to Jink Ples and Emma Mae Owens Jones. She lived in this area all her life and attended Ada schools, Murray State College and graduated from Lela’s Beauty College.

She married Homer T. Hulsey on Jan. 18, 1951, in Konawa. He died Jan. 21, 1987. Mrs. Hulsey worked as a teacher’s assistant for many years, at Connerville grade school. She was a cook for the McLish School and the Chickasaw Nation Head Start Program for many years. She was a foster grandparent at McLish School at the time of her death. Mrs. Hulsey was a member of the Faith Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Harrison and husband William, of Wewoka, and Rhonda Hulsey and husband Sammy Billy, of Fittstown; a son, Ken Hulsey, of the home; six grandchildren, Wendy Harrison, of Wewoka, Kelly Harrison, of Wewoka, Christine Brown, of the home, Brandon Hulsey, of Amarillo, Texas, Thad Hulsey, of Rapid City, S.D., and Devin Hulsey, of Sapulpa; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Pauline Moppin, of Tracy, Calif.; a step-sister, Ruthlene Kilcrease, of Ada; and a half-brother, James Jones, of Lindale, Texas.

Services are under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home, of Ada.

Royce Hunnicutt

Royce Douglas Hunnicutt age 72, of Wewoka, passed away Thursday, Dec. 25, in Oklahoma City.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, in Seminole, with James Choate officiating and interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery, in Wewoka.

Royce was born March 15, 1936, in Romeo, Colo., to Doyle M. and Edith E. (Westbrook) Hunnicutt.

Royce grew up on a Ranch in Colorado, where he broke horses and was a Bronco rider in his early years to earn money for his flight lessons.

He married Josephine Call Sept. 12, 1959, in Last Vegas, Nev. and to this union five children were born.

In Royce's early years he was Flight Instructor for The Aviation Academy, in Nevada, and was a Crop Duster pilot in Florida for over 30 years. He also did ariel photography, in Florida. His favorite planes were his Ag/Cat and Aeronca Chief, which he loved flying. He was also a bush pilot, in Alaska.

Royce was on a Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints From February of 1957 to August of 1959 in The South Mexico Mission.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Hunnicutt, of Wewoka; children, Michael Royce Hunnicutt, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Monica Rene' Hunnicutt, Ogden, of Utah, Stephanie Hunnicutt White and Husband Charles, of Wewoka, Sandra Elizabeth Hunnicutt, Ogden, of Utah, and James Douglas Hunnicutt, of Orlando, Fla.; brothers and sisters, Doyle M. Hunnicutt, of Arlington, Texas, Perry H. Hunnicutt, of Romeo, Colo., and Gloria Soward, of Mesa, Ariz.; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Jo Carol Hurst

Graveside services for life long Maud resident Jo Carol Hurst are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday at Cummings Cemetery in Maud with Rev. Wayne Taylor officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home, Maud.

Jo Carol Hurst passed from this life at the age of 66 at her home in Maud on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008. She was born Feb. 24, 1941 in Maud to Joe and Ona Bell Harding.

Jo Carol married Bob Hurst on May 27th 1958 in Maud. She retired from the Department of Public Safety in Oklahoma City on Dec. 31, 2001.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister June Chaffin and father-in-law J.C. Hurst.

Jo Carol is survived by her husband Bob Hurst of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Beverly Hurst of Eufaula; and daughter Robyn Hurst of Maud.

She is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Lynelle Harding of Greeley, Colo.; mother-in-law, Jimmie Hurst of Seminole; grandchildren: Junior and his wife Lisa Hurst of Eufaula, Shelby and Skylynn Hurst of Maud, and Brittany and Holli Hurst of Eufaula; and two great grandchildren, Robert and Tyler Hurst of Eufaula.

Jo Carol is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends and nurse Jennifer Lofton.
