Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident Artie Anne (Reames) Maxwell are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Konawa Assembly of God Church.
Interment is to follow at Vamoosa Cemetery with Rev. Wesley Martin officiating and Rev. Steve Lowrance assisting.
Maxwell died Wednesday, April 16, 2008 in Seminole. She was born July 26, 1920 in Sasakwa to William T. and Nevada "Vada" (Lane) Reames.
On Nov. 2, 1936 she married Lonnie E. Maxwell in Konawa. She was a homemaker and lived in and around Konawa for many years.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Konawa and moved to Seminole in 2001 following the death of her husband in May 2001.
Her parents; husband; two brothers, Jesse Reames and Gene Reames; two sisters: Ruby Alkire and Effie Shipley; and two grandchildren, preceded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters: Kathleen Parks of Seminole, Evyleen Lemmings of Konawa, and Dorothy Starling of Wewoka; four sons: Bobby Joe Maxwell of Harrah, Loyd Maxwell of Konawa, Edward Lee Maxwell of Konawa and J.L. Maxwell of Seminole; three brothers: G.W. Reames of Washington, Edgar Remes of California, and Vernon Remes of Idaho; 28 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.
Casket bearers will be: grandsons; Steve Parks, Eddie Lemmings, Kevin Staring, Paul Maxwell, Joe Maxwell, Jesse Maxwell, Gunnar Maxwell, Lloyd Parks, Ray Maxwell, Roger Staring, Keith Maxwell, Christopher Maxwell and William Maxwell.
Alethea McBurnette
Graveside services for former Wewoka resident Alethea Marie McBurnette are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Oakwood Cemetery, Wewoka.
Services are under the direction of Moore Eastlawn Chapel.
McBurnette, age 79, of Tulsa, died Friday, April 18, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was born Sept. 3, 1928 in Oilton, Okla., to Frank and Edna Watson Mikeman.
On April 20, 1947 she married Jack D. McBurnette in Wewoka and the couple were married for 59 years, just two days short of their 60th wedding anniversary.
She was a retired receptionist for Dr. Joseph Diggs Dental Practice.
Surviving is her husband of the home; one daughter, Penny Quinnelly of Wagoner; two grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Randall Mikeman of Oklahoma City.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, 825 Northeast 13th St., Oklahoma City, Ok 73104.
Jonnie McCaslin
Funeral services for former longtime Seminole resident Jonnie E. McCaslin are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Leland Hall officiating.
Interment is to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Jonnie E. McCaslin passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Metroplex Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grand Prairie, Texas at the age of 92. She was born on Dec. 6, 1915 in Vestee, Ark., to Celia Ann (Hardin) and John Wesley Mainord.
She graduated from Bowlegs High School in 1933 and was a homemaker. She married Virgil James McCaslin on Feb. 3, 1936 in Seminole; he preceded her in death on May 8, 1994.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: James and Violet McCaslin of Allen, Texas and Bill and Brenda McCaslin of Grand Prairie, Texas; one brother, Glover Mainord of Shawnee; and two sisters; Wanda McPherren of Midwest City and Thelma Legard of Shawnee.
She is also survived by five grandchildren: Tamara Bryan, Amy Hooper, Leah McFarlin, Lisa Drew and Lana Sellers and eight great-grandchildren: Shae Bryan, Jared and Jordan McFarlin, Abby Grace and Lily Cooper, Gentry and Zachary Drew and Buffie Sellers.
Her parents, Celia and John Mainord; husband, James McCaslin; and numerous brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Chub McClure
Funeral services for, longtime Seminole resident, Chub McClure are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Seminole with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. A burial will follow at Little Cemetery, North of Seminole.
Haskell was born on Nov. 24, 1939, in Shawnee, to Haskell R. and Freeda (Knappenberger) McClure. He was raised in Spaulding, and moved to Seminole in 1956 where he graduated from Seminole High School.
He served in the United States Army for over 11 years where he was in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a paratrooper and served a tour in Vietnam; he also served as crew chief on the U1A Otter Helicopter and earned the rank of Sergeant, after his discharge from the military. The family owned and operated a bottling company, in Seminole, in the early 1970’s.
He is survived by his former wife and the mother of his children, Patricia Johnson, of Seminole; two daughters, Pam Best, of Morrison, Colo. and J’ona Moritz, of Moreno Valley, Calif.; two sons, Barry McClure, of McAlester and Keith McClure, of Oklahoma City; sisters, Verldine "Geri" Huston, of Shawnee, and Carrie Jean "C.J." Brasier, of Choctaw.
He is also survived by four grandchildren: Nicole McClure, KeiShawnda Green, Dylan McClure and Brenna Pierce; two great grandchildren, Landon Nicholas Limar and Theron Wayne Pierce and good friend Mel Johnson, of Seminole. He will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews: Terry Boen, Donita Parker, Kellea Akkah, Michael Lee, Keisha Bachman and Carrie Huston.
Chub was a very adventurous and unique person and he loved to joke with people he cared about.
Pallbearers will be: Jim Robertson, John Anthony, Cliff Brasier, Mel Johnson and Willard Conner.
Bonnie McClure-Harjo
Funeral services for former longtime Seminole resident Bonnie Rae McClure-Harjo are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Ernest Best and Charley O’Daniel officiating.
Interment is to follow at Snake Creek Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
A wake service is scheduled for 6:30 Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Bonnie, 56 of Oklahoma City, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008 at her home. She was born Nov. 4, 1951 in Talihina to Richard Harjo and Elizabeth (Deer) Harjo.
She attended Strother School and was a member of the Marantha Baptist Church of Western Oaks in Bethany. Bonnie attended Snake Creek Baptist Church in Little before moving to Oklahoma City.
She moved to Oklahoma City in 1964 and was married to Saulton McClure of Oklahoma City. Bonnie was a homemaker.
Her mother; three nephews: Christian Lusty, Joseph Harjo, and Kutcha Harjo; and one niece, Kimberly Clark, preceded her in death.
Surviving is her father, Richard Harjo of Oklahoma City; three sons and daughter-in-law, Adrian and Melissa McClure, Jessie McClure, and Israel McClure, all of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Eleanor Garcia of Oklahoma City; five brothers: Charles Deer of Sherman, Texas, Bill Tiger of Norman, Sandy Harjo of Seminole, Richard Harjo Jr. of Oklahoma City, and Bobby Harjo of Shiprock, N.M.; five sisters: Elizabeth Berkley of Shawnee, Linda Gonzales, Birdie Martinez, Grace Trevizo, and Brenda Harjo, all of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren, Reese Garcia and Juan Garcia; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Casket bearers for the services will be: David Harjo, Jimmy Harjo, Jeremy Harjo and Anthony Hawkins.
Elliot McCosar
Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Elliot "Mac" McCosar Jr. are scheduled for Wednesday, July 9 at 10 a.m. in the McCartney’s Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Hager officiating.
Interment will be held at 2 p.m. in the family cemetery located in Wewoka with Rev. Malcom Tiger officiating.
McCosar died on Thursday, July 3, 2008 in the Pawhuska Nursing home at the age of 74.
He was born on October 3, 1933 in Wewoka to Elliot Sr. and Lucy (Walker) McCosar.
He moved to Pawhuska in 1970 and worked for a grocery store for many years.
McCosar also managed a local restaurant in Pawhuska for 15 years and was employed for a while with ALCO.
He served as a counselor at the Osage County Youth Services.
McCosar’s hobbies included fishing and watching sports. He devoted several years to coaching local softball and baseball teams.
McCosar was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army for two years.
He was a member of the Creek-Seminole Tribe of Indians and a former member of the Pawhuska Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his son Shawn McCosar, Pawhuska; three grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
Elliot McCosar

Edna McDonald
Longtime Seminole resident Edna McDonald passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the age of 86.
Edna was born to Orville and Mattie Snodgrass on a cattle ranch east of Coldwater, Kan. on Dec 31, 1921. She came to Seminole with her parents during the oil boom in 1926, living in tents as her dad worked in the oil fields.
She attended school at Little Mt. View and Mt. View High School. She married Bill McDonald in November of 1939. Edna worked at Tinker Field during World War II installing hydraulic systems in bombers. After the war she and Bill moved to Stonewall, to the County Line area, and then back to Seminole. After Seminole they lived in Cromwell, Cushing, Tulsa and Jenks.
While living in Jenks she worked for the Jenks School system in the food department. She was a devoted wife and mother to a son and daughter William H. and Betty Ilene.
Edna was an excellent craftsman, besides needle and crochet she also did ceramics, but best of all she was a painter, mostly oil doing landscape and stills also some reverse paintings.
After Bill retired in 1983 they returned to Seminole spending most of the time in their recreation vehicle. Together they spent their winters in the Rio Grand Valley near the Mexican border and their summers in the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. They lived full time in the Fifth Wheel RV for about 9 years.
Most of all Edna was a Christian she was baptized by Brother C.R. Nichol, in Seminole early in her life. Edna is survived by her husband, Bill; son, WM H. McDonald, of Tulsa; daughter, Betty Boggs, of Haskell; one grandson, Troy Boggs, of Haskell; one granddaughter, Rachel McDonald, of Brunswick, Ga.; and one great granddaughter, Georgia, of Brunswick, She is also survived by one brother, Loren Snodgrass, of Perry, and one sister, Marlene Harris, of Elk City.
Her parents and two sisters preceded her in death.
Casket bearers will be: Melvin Thompson, Roy Boydstun, Leon McDonald, Steve McDonald, Bradley McDonald, and David Harris.
Honorary Bearers will be: Cecil Sullivan, Jack Mattingly, Gary Snow, Stacy Kinsey, Tommy Mills, Lee Stillwell and James Vanlandingham.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Seminole Church of Christ, 4200 North Highway 99 with Chris Stinnett and Frank Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery, in Little.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, 100 W. Strothers, Seminole.
Reta McDonald
Shawnee resident Reta Jean McDonald went to be with the Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 22, age 75,
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday Dec. 27, at 2 p.m., at Walker Funeral Service Chapel. Mike Taylor will officiate.
She was born March 20, 1933, in Chandler, to Carl Ivan and Jewell Martha (Brown) Reid.
She attended Chandler High School and married Robert Dean McDonald, on Aug. 17, 1951, in Chandler.
McDonald was a secretary at Sequoyah and Wilson Elementary Schools, and Oral Roberts University, in Tulsa. From 1989 to early 2008 she worked at Cinema Center, in Shawnee.
She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, read, traveled, and spent time with family.
Surviving her are her daughters, DeAnn Hawkins and husband Jeff, Marsha Ann Craig; grandchildren, Derek Hawkins, Chesca Craig-Goodell and husband, Jeff, Zachary Craig and wife Lindsey; great-grandchildren, Ava Goodell and Brayden Goodell; sister, Pat Marriott and husband Ron, and many other loving relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death is her husband, Robert Dean McDonald.
