Memorial services for Seminole native Pechacek are scheduled for 3 p.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. D. Van Washington officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hampton Mortuary in Checotah.
Pechacek, 37 of Checotah, died Thursday, June 12, 2008. He was born June 20, 1970 in Seminole to Charles and Mary Pechacek.
He was a graduate of Varnum High school and was a member of the Seminole Bass Club and Fisherman’s Choice. Pechacek worked for the Seminole County and State of Oklahoma Department of Transportation for 11 years.
His grandparents: Fred and Ruth Lemmings and Wes and Frances Pechacek, preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife Darlene of Checotah; two daughters: Kena Alys Pechacek and Ellaina Marie Pechacek; their mother, Rebecca Struck; three stepdaughters: Jamie Tarkington, Katelyn Brinsfield, and Demi Jeffreys; his parents, Charles and Mary Pechacek of Eufaula; and sister, Sharon McClesky of Oklahoma City.
Betty Penuel
Longtime Seminole resident Betty Lou Penuel died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 in Shawnee at the age of 77.
Funeral services have been planned for a later date, and will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.
Penuel was born on July 6, 1931 in Eades, Colo., to Everett E. and Helen (Hooker) Howell.
She was a member of South Rock Creek Church.
She married George Penuel on March 19, 1977 and he preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 2006.
Penuel was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Max Howell, Van Howell, Clay Howell, and F.A. Howell; and one sister, Velma Stone.
She is survived by her sons, Don Gober and Roger Gober, both of Seminole.
Anna Perkins
Services for Anna L. Perkins are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church, in Wewoka. She died Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the age of 96.
Perkins was born on Sept. 20 1912, in Carnegie, to Edward and Nora Dukes. She accepted Christ as her Savior at the age of 15.
She graduated from high school in 1932 and from Koran Business School in Oklahoma City in 1935. She then worked as a bookkeeper for State Fuel Supply Company where she met and married Ben W. Perkins. They moved to Laverne, in 1940 where their three sons Ronald, Roger, and Allen were born. In 1953 their daughter, Benora, was born.
In November 1944 they made their home in Wewoka. She joined the First Baptist Church in 1946 where she was a member in service for over 60 years. She served as WMU Director for eight years and was a Sunday school worker. She also worked as a volunteer at the Seminole Nation Museum for 18 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ben (Dec. 14, 1987), her sons, Ronald and Roger; and three sisters, Eva Tooman, Tilley Underwood and Valera Cook.
She is survived by her son, Allen Perkins, of Lancaster, Calif.; her daughter, Benora Thomas, of Claremore; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, of Wewoka.
Jordan Permetter
Graveside services for Jordan Shay Permetter are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Earlsboro Cemetery with Rev. James Grayson officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Permetter was born and died on Monday, March 24, 2008 at OU Medical Center.
She is survived by her parents, Staci Lynn Permetter of Earlsboro and Alex Johnson of Oklahoma City; one sister, Raven McClain of Earlsboro; grandparents: John Earl Permetter, Sr., and Marilyn of Earlsboro; and great-grandmother, Peggy Lindsey of Earlsboro.
Wayne Pester
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Wayne Pester will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Robert Cook officiating.
Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery with military honors.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Wayne Monroe Pester joined his bride of 70 years in Heaven on Jan. 29, 2008 at the age of 90. He was born on July 3, 1917, to Reece Vernon and Minnie Sally (Montgomery) Pester on the Seminole homestead secured in one of the early Oklahoma land runs.
He attended Seminole schools until venturing west to work in the California produce fields. Upon his return to Oklahoma, Wayne eloped to El Reno with Evelyn Inez Cook in 1937 in his convertible Model-A Ford; the car, which he claimed, won him the heart of Inez.
The Pesters then journeyed to San Francisco where both welded on naval ships and were popular in their bowling league.
Drafted into the army at the end of World War II, Wayne served in occupied Austria as a military policeman. At the conclusion of his military duty, Wayne rejoined his family in Seminole and became active in the community, which he loved. He retired from Flint Engineering as district manager after 34 years of service.
His family will always remember his clever humor, stylish hats, love of aviation, and weakness for desserts.
Wayne is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Pulliam and husband Jim of Edmond; a son, Gary Pester and wife Lorraine of Broken Arrow; five granddaughters, and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be: Max Cook, Terry Morris, Dale Wallace and Danny Wallace. Honorary pallbearers will be: Larry Cofer and Neil Craig.
Theresa Peters
Funeral services for longtime Konawa and Maud resident Theresa Fae (Pratt) Peters are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Trinity Baptist Church in Maud.
Interment is to follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.
Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home, Maud.
Peters, 79, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at Valley View Hospital in Ada. She was born Oct. 10, 1928 in Maud to Cecil E. Pratt and Virginia Mae "Virgie" (Lewis) Pratt.
She graduated from Maud High School in 1947 and was of the Baptist faith. On June 27, 1948 she married Vernon Dale Peters in Shawnee.
The couple returned to the Konawa and Maud area in 1970, having moved from Bethany.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of the home; one daughter, Mollie Herndon of Mustang; twin sister, Rosa Mae Jett of Shawnee; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Casket bearers will be: Jess Walker, Don Peters, David Woods, Burnis Fisher, Danny Freeman and Ronnie Isaacs.
Spencer Petete
Funeral services for Spencer Petete, relative of Seminole County residents, were held July 15, 2008, at Capitol Heights Missionary Baptist Church in Holdenville, under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home of Holdenville.
Rev. Jim Crawford officiated the services.
Interment followed in Holdenville Cemetery.
Petete died July 11, 2008 in Holdenville at the age of 81.
He was born in Holdenville on Jan. 1, 1927, to Emit and Edna Petete.
He married Norma Collis on Aug. 24, 1952. She preceded him in death on May 28, 1988.
Petete lived his entire life in Holdenville, graduating from Holdenville High School in 1944.
He worked as a TV and radio repairman, construction worker, and as a carpenter.
He served on the Holdenville City Council and in the U.S. Army from 1952-54, and was honorably discharged.
He worked on his family’s genealogy, visiting people and discussing old times.
Petete’s hobbies included watching sports on television.
He was a lifelong student, taking classes in cooking, auctioneering, and computers.
He tried out new recipes on the family and spent time repairing things.
He wrote numerous short stories and was a member of a local writing group.
After his retirement, Petete spent time with workers at the cemetery office, the library, and the historical society.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Norma; brothers, Hugh Petete, Harold Petete, Horace Petete, Leon Petete, and infant brother Glendia Petete.
Petete is survived by his daughter Paula Petete of Holdenville; his son, Richard Petete of Ada; sister Lucille Collis of Holdenville; brother Theo Petete of Oklahoma City; and a special friend of 14 years, Maxine Lozier of Seminole.
Pallbearers were Weldon Thetford, Kenneth Brinlee, Richard Mackey, John Janes, Leon Petete, and Lloyd Petete.
Honorary bearers were Wendell Harris, Clester Wingo, and Earl Cook.
Lilly Phelps
Lilly Antoinette Phelps, 77, died Sunday, Nov. 16, at Seminole Estates Nursing Home, in Seminole. She was born Oct. 8, 1931, in Oakland, Calif., to Charles Augustus and Nora Ann Walkman (Smith) Deming.
Phelps moved Seminole, from San Diego, Calif. in Jan., of 2007. She was a longtime resident of Alpine, Calif. where she was involved in Women’s ministries and the choir at her church. Phelps was a practical nurses aide working in home health aide industry, for the most of her adult life.
She married Robert Russell Phelps Oct. 29, 1949, in Alpine, Calif. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Nora Ann Cutler, of Seminole; 4 Sons, Paul Alan Phelps, of Alpine, Calif., Donald Lee Phelps, of Needles, Calif., Charles Augustus Phelps, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lawrence James Phelps, of Santee, Calif.
She is also survived by several grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sons Bobby and Johnny Phelps and several brothers and sisters.
There will be a private burial for her in Alpine, Calif. There is no visitation planned for her.
Jackie Phillips
Private family services are scheduled for a later date for longtime Seminole County resident Jackie Lee Phillips.
Visitation is scheduled for 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday and 12 – 5 p.m. Sunday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Phillips died Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Whispering Pines Nursing Center in Norman. He was born Feb. 10, 1935 in Maud to John C. and Emma Lee (Redding) Phillips.
He worked in the oilfields as a roustabout for Jerry Scott Drilling and Jo Mills for many years.
His parents; three brothers: Clifton Phillips, Wayne Phillips, and Clay Phillips; two sisters: Lena Estep and Betty Belche; and two great-grandchildren, preceded him in death.
Surviving are two sons: Justin and Ricky Phillips of Okemah; two brothers: Marshall and Robert Phillips, both of Seminole; and one sister, Loretta Smith of Seminole.
