Larry Phillips

Private family services for longtime Seminole resident Larry Wayne Phillips Sr. will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Phillips, 55, died Friday, May 9, 2008 in Oklahoma City. He was born July 18, 1952 to Wayne J. "Snuffy" Phillips and Ethel Lee (Treadwell) Phillips.

He attended Seminole Public Schools and he worked as a roustabout in the Seminole oil fields for over 25 years until he became disabled.

On March 8, 1974 he married his wife, Darla, in Seminole. She preceded him in death in February 2004.

His parents; one brother, Joe Henry Boatman; and one sister, Bonnie Lee Bridges, also preceded him in death.

Surviving are two sons: Larry "Sonny" Phillips Jr. and John Lee Phillips, both of Seminole; two daughters: Crystal Lynnette (Phillips) Heartline of Seminole and Marie Turner Price of Oklahoma; one sister, Donna Carol Postman of St. Louis, Okla.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Melvin Pierce

A private family service is to be held for Seminole resident Melvin Allen Pierce. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Pierce, 47, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at Norman Regional Hospital in Norman. He was born March 26, 1961 in Three Rivers, Mich., to Melvin Jacobs and Betty Jean (Pierce) Zendner.

He was a graduate of Hilltop High School in California and married Sondra Fry on May 27, 1988 in Tulsa. Pierce worked as a machine operator for Timco in Wewoka and had moved from Tulsa one and one-half years ago.

Surviving is his wife of the home; stepfather, John Zendner of Chula Vista, Calif.; one son, James Pace of Tulsa; one brother, Kelly Stewart of Tulsa; one sister, Candy Jacobs of Chula Vista, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Myra Nell Pock

Memorial services for former longtime Seminole resident Myra Nell Pock will be held 10 a.m. on Monday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

Private burial service will be held later at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Myra Nell Pock passed away Jan. 3, 2008 after a short illness in Tulsa. Myra was born Jan. 24, 1922 at Fort Cobb, Okla., to Earl B. and Thelma (Sprowl) Griffith.

She married W.H. "Bill" Pock on Jan. 24, 1942. Mr. Pock preceded her in death on March 29, 1975.

Myra Nell moved to Seminole from Chickasha, Okla., and lived there for over 50 years until she moved to Tulsa to be near her daughter.

Myra Nell was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole. She was also one of the local founding members of the Lunch and Such Social Club, where she loved to spend her afternoons.

Myra Nell is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Bob N. and Jackie Pock of Shawnee; daughter and son-in-law, Paige L. and Dennis Phillips of Tulsa; grandchildren: Ashley Phillips of Austin, Texas, Brook Thomas of Shawnee and Darren Phillips of Tulsa; and one great-grandson, Dylan Thomas of Shawnee.

One son, Bill N. Pock, preceded her in death.

Gwendolyn Presley

Funeral services for Longtime Seminole resident Gwendolyne Mae Presley are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Pollard officiating.

Interment will follow at Little Cemetery.

Presley passed away on Monday, May 19, 2008 at the age of 81.

She was born on August 22, 1926 in Okemah, to Sherman and Leila (Rumsey) Robinson.

She married Charles William Presley in 1941 in Seminole, Oklahoma who preceded her in death on May 2, 1987.

She was a nurse’s aide at Seminole Hospital and Pioneer Nursing Home, a member of the Trinity Baptist Church and enjoyed bowling in her bowling league.

She is survived by two sons; Curtis Presley, Bowlegs, and Daryle Presley, Seminole; three brothers, Reford Robinson, Indianapolis, Ind. and Donald Robinson of Denver, Colo., Jack Robinson, Seminole; two sisters, Cleo Dent of Russell, Kansas, Emma Whitehead, Tecumseh,.

Presley is survived by four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Leila Robinson, husband, Charles William Presley, and brother, Buddy Robinson.

Gale Pryor

Funeral services for Wewoka native Gale F. Pryor were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Holdenville Municipal Airport Hangar with Bill Robinson officiating.

Burial followed at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville.

Pryor, 89, died Sunday, March 30, 2008 at his residence in Holdenville. He was born Sept. 14, 1918 in Wewoka to William W. Pryor and Cora E. Oakley Pryor.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a pilot trainer.

In 1942 he married Dorothy Treadwell and the couple owned and operated an oil and gas production business. He was a 32nd degree Mason.

His parents; wife (2004); brother, Dr. V.W. Pryor; and sisters: opal Moore, Lucille Kerns, and Lynn Sweeny, preceded him in death.

Surviving are nieces and nephews: Susan Moore, Nancy Davis, Victor Pryor, William E. Pryor, and a number of others.

Serving as pall bearers were: Dallas Pryor, Kenny Pryor, Guy Pryor, Grant Pryor, Rick Maxwell, and Jay Thompson.

Agnes Pulliam

Agnes F. Pulliam, age 93, lifelong Seminole resident died Friday, Dec. 26, at Integris Seminole Medical Center. She was born in Seminole, on Sept. 15, 1915 to George and Lowila (Spencer) Tiger.

Pulliam attended Mountain View Elementary School, East of Seminole, and graduated from Emehaka Girls Indian School, South of Wewoka.

She was married to Robert Pulliam who died in October, of 1999. She was a homemaker and tribal member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, and was their first Seminole Indian Princess for Seminole Nation Days.

She was active in Cheyarha Presbyterian Church, East of Seminole. She was the pianist for many years, active in Sunday school and bible studies, and was also and elder of the church and past president of the Presbyterian Ladies Group.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her four brothers, Anderson Tiger, Edmond Tiger, Ishmael Tiger and Webster Tiger; sister, Beatrice Pulliam, her husband Robert Pulliam; and one child Robert Pulliam Jr.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 29, at the Cheyarha Presbyterian Church with Rev. Everett Miller officiating. Burial will take place at the Tiger Family Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be her nephews, John Tiger, Don Tiger, Pembroke Tiger, Ted Tiger, David Tiger, Jack Tiger, Anderson Tiger, Jr. and Randall Tiger.

Burton Simpson

Burton A. "Burt" Simpson passed away on Aug. 30, at the age of 78. Burt was born Oct. 23, 1929, to Burton A. and Frances M. Simpson.

He attended Ardmore High School and Trinity University, in San Antonio, Texas.

Burt enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War, completing his tour in 1955.

In 1948 he worked for OG&E, in Ardmore. In 1955 he rejoined OG&E serving in various capacities in the Accounting Department. He retired from OG&E in 1987, after 39 years of service.

He was a lifelong member of the United Presbyterian Church, in Shawnee, where he served as deacon, elder, and trustee.

Burt was a kind, loving, and gentle man, he loved his wife, family and friends. He remained in touch with several friends from childhood throughout his life. He loved boats, and boating. Being on the water for him was pure joy. He loved the sunrises and sunsets, his Koi pond and all of nature.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Frances Mary Simpson.

He is survived by his wife; Martha, of the home, two sons; Gregory Simpson, of Farmersville, Texas, and Stephen Simpson and wife Diana, of Seminole, Grandchildren; Lauren Simpson, of Farmersville, Texas, Amy Simpson, of Seminole, Ashley Fitchner, of Seminole, three step children; Joni Groves, of Broken Arrow, George Purcell, of Tulsa, and Robert Purcell, of Louisville, Ky., and three step grandchildren; Kara Purcell, of Ponca City, hunter Purcell, of Claremore, and Taylor Groves, of Broken Arrow.

Funeral services were held at 2p.m., Aug. 30, at the Walker Funeral Service Chapel, with Rev. Dan Lewis officiating.

Debra Rader

Debra Gail Rader was born to Nadine (Lewis) and Andrew Starr, Sept. 6, 1957, in Kokomo, Ind. and passed away on Dec. 20, in Del City, after a long and brave battle with cancer. She never let the pain show or slow her down.

Debbie never met a stranger anywhere she went. She was compassionate, loving, and loved life. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and wife. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Nadine and Andrew Starr and her granddaughter Elizabeth Rader.

Debbie is survived by her companion, Rod Clouse, of the home; 2 daughters Christy Fuller and husband Robert, of Pauls Valley and Ashley Rader, of Norman; 2 sisters, Linda Stranahan and husband Dan, of Peru, Ind., Diann Biddle and Mike Higgins, of Logansport, Ind.; 3 grandchildren Austin Ingram, Korie Fuller, and Nikki Rader; the father of her children, Jerry Rader; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins as well as her loving extended Clouse family, and close friends.

Memorial services will be held Monday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. at Sooner Road Church of God, in Midwest City. Visitation with the family prior to the service will be from 10 to 11 a.m.

Flowers may be sent to Havenbrook Funeral Home, in Norman.

Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home, of Norman.

Thelma Ragan

Funeral services for longtime Maud resident Thelma H. (Martin) Ragan are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Saturday at the Trinity Baptist Church in Maud.

Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud with Rev. Wayne Taylor officiating.

Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud.

Thelma passed from this life Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008 at Unity Health Center in Shawnee. She was born March 25, 1920 in Stanley, Okla., to parents Timothy Luster Cleveland Martin and Leola Francis (Bartlett) Martin.

At the age of thirteen she married Harry O. Ragan in Arkansas, on Dec. 23, 1933. He preceded her in death after 35 years of marriage.

Also preceding her in death were husbands, Carl Coday and Lannie Sprouse.

During her working career she worked as an active licensed dietician at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City for many years and later at the McBride Bone and Joint Hospital in Oklahoma City for many years.

She also worked for Doctor’s General in Oklahoma City as a dietician. Even after her retirement she worked for Maud Action for 10 years until her health prevented her to continue working.

Thelma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Maud. She had also been a member of the Maud Round-up Club and the Action Christmas Store in Shawnee. Thelma also loved to help her daughter Lavonna at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Maud.

Thelma leaves to cherish her memory, two sons and daughters-in-law: Otis and Doris Ragan of Del City, and Harry Gene and Kay Ragan of Maud; one daughter and son-in-law, Lavonna and Harold Swarb of Maud; and one sister, Francis Noland of Grass Valley, Calif.

Other survivors include seven grandchildren and their spouses: Ricky Ragan of Del City, Vickie (Ragan) and husband Mike Carrie of Del City, Tammy (Swarb) and husband Steve Wall of Maud, Harold "Bubby" Swarb of Maud, Cindy (Swarb) and husband Randy Horn of Maud, Shanna (Ragan) and husband Steve Fletcher of Bixby, Okla., and Stacy and wife Lucrecia (Jordan) Ragan of Maud.

Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, as well as a host of other family and dear friends.

Thelma was preceded by her parents; husbands; two brothers, Woody and Snowden Martin; and by one sister, Pearl Sorenson.

Casket bearers will be: Jack O’Daniel, Buck Day, Paul Lucy, Russell Bob Noland, Joe Ray Noland and Kevin McKinley.

Honorary bearers will be: Steve Wall, Randy Horn, Steve Fletcher, Stacy Ragan, Ricky Ragan, Bubby Swarb, Kenneth L. Tiffen and Bill Barton.
