J.B. Rodebush

Memorial services for former Seminole County resident J.B. Rodebush are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Bishop Chapel of Memories.

Military honors will be by Robert B. Thomas, Veterans of Foreign wars Post #1098, under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service, McAlester.

J.B., 84 of McAlester, passed away Monday, April 7, 2008 at Solara Hospital in Shawnee. He was born Sept. 16, 1923 in Prague, Okla., to James H. and India Rae Smith.

He attended elementary school at a small country school in Lincoln County named 52. Later his family moved to Seminole County, where he graduated from Vamoosa High School.

J.B. entered the U.S. Army on May 25, 1943, serving as a machine gunner in the Battery D547th Anti-aircraft Artillery AW Battalion, during World War II. He served in Normandy during the Metz and in the and in the SAAR, in the Rhineland and in the Ruhr.

After J.B. received honorable discharge on March 16, 1946 as a corporal, he returned to Konawa where he began his career in the oil field, working in various aspects of the job.

J.B. later moved to McAlester area and in December 1966, he began working as a B.I.B. assembly worker and later was an aircraft structure mechanic at Rockwell, until his retirement in 1989.

In 1968, J.B. and his brother Bill decided to purchase cattle and years later they formed the Double RR Rodebush Purebred Limousin Ranch.

He was a member of the North American Limousin Foundation, Oklahoma Cattleman, Little Dixie Limousin Association of McAlester, and the Oklahoma Limousin Association.

J.B. was also a member of the McAlester BPOE, Elks Lodge #533, and was a Mason with the South McAlester Blue Lodge #96.

His parents; brother, Glen H. Rodebush and his wife, Zelda; and his sister-in-law, Birthie Rodebush, preceded him in death.

Surviving is his brother, Bill F. Rodebush of McAlester; four nephews and a spouse: Glen and Carrie Rodebush and Wayne Rodebush, all of McAlester, Max W. Rodebush of Ada, and Jimmy Rodebush of Konawa; a niece and spouse, Lena and Harold Helmbreckt of Douglass, Ga.; two great-nieces and three nephews: Erica Rodebush, Isom Rodebush, Matt Rodebush, Destiny Rodebush, and Rock Rodebush; and numerous other family and friends.

Jimmy Rodgers

Funeral services for longtime Konawa resident Jimmy Joe Rodgers Sr. are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grace Community Church in Vamoosa with Rev. Drew Isaacs and Rev. Mark Streetman officiating.

Burial is to follow at Konawa Cemetery with military honors. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.

Jimmy passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Valley View Regional Hospital in Ada at the age of 80 years. He was born Aug. 23, 1927 in Konawa to Joe Rodgers Sr. and Mary (Doolen) Rodgers.

Jimmy was active in all sports as a child and he grew up in the streets of Konawa and was known as the local paperboy. He also helped his mom at the local tag office and the family grocery store.

After high school, Jimmy attended ECU for two years. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marines in June 1945, and served his country in the 1st Marine Division of World War II.

He later served in the U.S. Army Company B 108th Infantry Regiment as a Platoon Sergeant in Japan during the Korean War. Jimmy received an honorable discharge in September 1951.

On Aug. 27, 1960 Jimmy married Neva Ann Isaacs in Konawa and moved to Wanette, where they raised their family on a farm.

Jimmy was a longtime farmer and rancher and he sold hay for almost 60 years in the Konawa area. He was known to have bailed hay for five generations around the Konawa area.

He enjoyed raising a garden and fresh vegetables, playing his guitar, was an avid reader, historian and storyteller; and was a ranked tennis player. Family and friends enjoyed his sense of humor.

Jimmy also won several Will Rogers look-a-like contests in his later years. He was interested in politics and was his grandchildren’s biggest fan. Jimmy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Konawa.

His parents and parents-in-law, Jess and Ida Isaacs, preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife of the home; three sons: Scotty Sexton of Denver, Colo., James Roberts and his wife Sharlyn of Morenci, Ariz., and Jimmy Joe Rodgers Jr. and his wife Connie of Choctaw; two daughters: Gina Bass and her husband Cliff of Roff and Anna Ellis and her husband Jerimy of Yukon; one brother, Joe Rodgers Jr. and his wife Linda of Las Vegas, Nev.; and one sister, Wanda Baresel of Oklahoma City.

In addition, 15 grandchildren: April, Chris, Amanda Isaac, Jessica, Josh, Jamie, Cody, Monica, Heather, Caleb, Jacob, Kaysea, Sara and Benjamin; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends, also survive Jimmy.

James Ross

James "Smiley" A. Ross life long Seminole county resident died, Saturday, Nov. 1, at the age of 66.

Smiley was born in Wetumka, on Aug. 23, 1942 to James A. and Mildred Inez (Hulstine) Ross.

Ross was a heavy machine operator and worked for many oil field services in this area some of which included Tony Peters Dozer Service and Joe Tolberts United Truck Service.

He served in the National Guard and was a member of the Harvey Road Baptist Church, in Seminole.

He married Debra Ann Hale, Jan. 10, 2006, in Eureka Springs, Ark.

He is survived by wife, Debra; mother, Inez Daniels; son, Jimmy Aldridge, of Konawa, daughters, Shonda (Ross) McGuire, of Seminole and Tamara Ross, of Harrah; and sister, Nancy Grubbs, of Pascagoula, Miss.

His father James preceded him in death.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. in the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will be at the Wetumka Cemetery, in Wetumka.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth King, Andy Johnson, Josh Lytle, Alvis Campbell, Gene Cathy, and Bobby Bush.

Honorary Bearers will be Mike Adams, David Cathy, Rooster Harden, Joe Tolbert, Tommy Factor, Gerald Factor, Ronnie Allison, Tony Peters, and Wilbur Johnson.

Christine Rowe

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Christine "Chrissy" Rowe are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Ron King officiating.

Interment is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Rowe, 40, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008 in Stigler, Okla. She was born July 29, 1967 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Butch Brown and Theresa (Allen) Fairman.

Her mother and stepfather, Theresa and Jimmie Fairman preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters: Kara Rowe and Gretchen Fry and one son, David Rowe, all of Stigler; spouse, Charlie Peters of the home; and father, Butch Brown of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Paula Russell

Paula Jeaninne (Dawson) Russell, 53 year-old Seminole resident passed from this life at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, at Carl Albert Hospital in Ada.

She lived a full and colorful life. She and her former husband and business partner traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Marco and China gathering an array of photographs for their photography business.

They lived on Lombard Street, in San Francisco, the most crooked street in the world. They also owned and operated an outfitting business out of Livingston, Mont.

Paula studied dental hygiene at Rose State College, in Oklahoma City, and art at the University of Oklahoma and University of Texas at Arlington. She also studied voice and music in Nashville, Tenn.

She was born in Seminole, Nov. 22, 1955. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Homer and Ruby Griffith and Giles and Rita Dawson and her father, G.W. Dawson, of Los Angeles, Calif.

She is survived by her mother, Pat Berry, of Seminole; brothers, Kent Dawson, of Seminole, Chris Berry, of Oklahoma City, and Robert Berry, of Round Rock, Texas; sisters, D.D. Breslin and Tamera Robinson, of Wimberly, Texas; and her beloved nephew Darius Berry, of Oklahoma City.

Paula had many talents. She could paint, draw, sculpture and she did Indian beading. She loved horses and seamed to be able to communicate with all animals. She was also a proud member of the Chickasaw tribe.

The family will be having a private family service.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

June Russell

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident June Russell are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Tommy Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Gloria "June" Russell passed away on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 in Seminole at the age of 75. June was born on Aug. 18, 1932 in Shawnee to Troy and Sadie (Jordan) Yoder.

She was a graduate of Shawnee High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir and in the past years had taught Sunday school. She was a Choctaw Tribal Member; very proud of her Choctaw heritage.

June loved the sport of baseball; when her children were young, she was a little league baseball coach. Some of her hobbies were playing Canasta with her girlfriends, going to dances with friends and working with Marie Dawson at auctions.

She worked for Southwestern Bell and also was as a nurse for many years for Dr. Jack Parrish, Dr. Dennis Ang, Dr. Sudhir Gupta and Dr. Brendan Okeeffe. Her passion for nursing was an influence to her grandson Andrew to pursue a career in medicine.

He attends Indiana School of Medicine in Muncie, Indiana to be a surgeon. Her sense of humor and zest for life were infectious to all around her.

She is survived by her son, Mike Russell of Greenbrier, Ark.; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Rick Conner of Seminole; sister-in-law, Wanda Yoder; nieces, Rena Goldenstein, and Daleda Waldrup and husband Greg, all of Shawnee; three grandchildren, Lyndsey Russell and husband John Powell of Blanchard, Okla., Andrew Conner, of Muncie, Ind., and Caley Conner of Seminole.

She is also survived by a host of other family and loving friends. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Sadie Yoder; son, Pat Russell; and brother, DaleYoder.

Pallbearers will be: Danny Lynn Jordan, Derl Williams, Webber Crow, Randy Milam, Gene Knight and Jake Knight. Honorary pallbearers will be: George Richards, Ken Colvin and Roy Gurley.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the Dr. Tony Haddad and the ICU nursing staff at Unity North Hospital in Shawnee, Grace Lankford, Lori Blackwell, Carol Williams, Shirley Castle, Jennifer Lemons, and Loving Care Hospice for all the love and care they have provided to June.

Sadie Russell

Funeral services for Holdenville native, Sadie Benson Russell, are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel, Wewoka.

Burial is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Russell, 93, died Monday, April 28, 2008 at a Tulsa hospital. She was born May 31, 1914 in Holdenville to Floy and G.L. Benson.

On June 19, 1932 she married Albert Russell, and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1991.

Together the couple had three daughters. She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church of Holdenville and Wewoka, until she moved to Tulsa in 1991 after the death of her husband.

She participated in all of her daughters’ activities including church and school, Camp Fire Girls, Horizon Club, and Rainbow Girls.

Russell was the sponsor of Wewoka Fist Teen Town for seven years in the 1950s and in the 60s was the manager of Fran’s Boutique Gift Shop in Wewoka for nine years. While there, she taught hat making.

Surviving are her three daughters: Patti Miller of Bryan, Texas, Carole Lynn Morris of Tulsa, and Suzanne Magee of Tulsa; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Raymond Ryan

Memorial services for lifelong Seminole County resident Raymond James Ryan are scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2008 at Cummings Cemetery in Maud with Rev. Larry Spark officiating.

Ryan departed this life on July 7, 2008 at the age of 57 years.

He was born on August 18, 1951 in Dallas, Texas to Raymond Leon and Lorene Denney Ryan.

He graduated from Wewoka High School in 1969 and attended Seminole Junior College.

He worked in the oil industry for most of his life and served in the U.S. Army.

His parents and one daughter, Michelle, preceded Raymond in death.

Survivors includes three daughters; Angie and husband Jeremy Yeager of Borger, Kellie Ryan of Friona Texas, Kerri Ryan of Hereford, Texas and one son; James Ryan of Amarillo, Texas.

He is also survived by two brothers; Randy Ryan and wife Connie, Ada, Gary Ryan and wife Jean, Seminole, one sister; Shirley and husband Randy Orr, Wewoka, two aunts; Faye Renegar, Shawnee, June Franklin and husband H.L., Dallas, Texas.

Grandchildren include James Ryan, Stoney Ryan, Ricky Baltista, Airick Baltista, Tristan Baltista, Audrey Reyes, Chance Yeager and Ashlynn Yeager.

Also surviving is his lifelong friend and companion, Esther Collins of Oklahoma City and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
