Funeral services for Seminole County native Kenneth Harold Shivers are scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Praise Center Assembly of God Church in Little.
Dr. Jack Medlock will officiate.
Interment will follow at the Little Cemetery, and is under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
Shivers passed away on Friday, May 23, 2008 in Paden at the age of 73.
He was born to Arthur and Cora Cordilla (Perry) Shivers on March 12, 1935 in Keokuk Falls, Okla..
Harold had been a resident of the Paden area all of his life.
He was married to Carolyn Sue Ellis at Little on June 6, 1962 by Rev. Carl Shivers in the Little Assembly of God Church.
He remained a member of the Praise Center Assembly of God Church throughout his life.
Harold possessed a strong love of family, the outdoors and was a lifelong carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Aug. 4, 2007; his parents; two brothers and a grandson.
Harold is survived by daughters and son-in-laws, Sherry and Lance Bradley, Prague, Vickie Lakins, Paden and Lora and Kirk Fipps, Paden; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Myrtle Shivers, Stratford; and six grandchildren, Kyler Bradley, Garrett Bradley, Amber Duke, Caleb Lakins, Leslie Fipps and Holly Fipps.
Bethel Simmons
Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Bethel Marie Simmons are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Michael Vallandingham officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Bethel passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008 in Stillwater. She was born July 14, 1945 in Elk City, Kan., to Clyde C. and Fern (Hankins) Lawrence.
She graduated from Elk City High school and Oklahoma State University in 1999 with a BS degree in Sociology.
Bethel worked at Oklahoma State University as a Unit Assistant.
On July 2, 1967 Bethel married Michael Dean Simmons and to this marriage two daughters were born.
Bethel was a victim of Polycystic Kidney disease, the complications of which resulted in her death.
She was an organ donor and at her passing the Organ Donor Foundation harvested various parts of her that have in turn enhanced the lives of others.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Surviving Bethel is her husband: daughter: Kimberly Simmons Coates and husband David of Stillwater, and Laurel Palladine and husband Paul of Tulsa; two grandchildren: Jordan and Michael Palladine of Tulsa; sister, Dianna Overton of Coffeyville, Kan.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Burton Simpson
Burton A. "Burt" Simpson passed away on Aug. 30, at the age of 78. Burt was born Oct. 23, 1929, to Burton A. and Frances M. Simpson.
He attended Ardmore High School and Trinity University, in San Antonio, Texas.
Burt enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War, completing his tour in 1955.
In 1948 he worked for OG&E, in Ardmore. In 1955 he rejoined OG&E serving in various capacities in the Accounting Department. He retired from OG&E in 1987, after 39 years of service.
He was a lifelong member of the United Presbyterian Church, in Shawnee, where he served as deacon, elder, and trustee.
Burt was a kind, loving, and gentle man, he loved his wife, family and friends. He remained in touch with several friends from childhood throughout his life. He loved boats, and boating. Being on the water for him was pure joy. He loved the sunrises and sunsets, his Koi pond and all of nature.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Frances Mary Simpson.
He is survived by his wife; Martha, of the home, two sons; Gregory Simpson, of Farmersville, Texas, and Stephen Simpson and wife Diana, of Seminole, Grandchildren; Lauren Simpson, of Farmersville, Texas, Amy Simpson, of Seminole, Ashley Fitchner, of Seminole, three step children; Joni Groves, of Broken Arrow, George Purcell, of Tulsa, and Robert Purcell, of Louisville, Ky., and three step grandchildren; Kara Purcell, of Ponca City, hunter Purcell, of Claremore, and Taylor Groves, of Broken Arrow.
Funeral services were held at 2p.m., Aug. 30, at the Walker Funeral Service Chapel, with Rev. Dan Lewis officiating.
Cathy Sipes
Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Cathy Sue Sipes, 50, are to be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2008, at Holdenville’s Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Dane Robinson officiating.
Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka, under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.
Sipes died in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, July 15, 2008.
She was born on Oct. 21, 1957, in Salida, Colo., to Florene Weger.
Sipes was a Wewoka High School graduate and on May 22, 1978, married Jimmy Sipes Sr.
Together they made their home in Holdenville.
Sipes worked at Davis Correctional Facility in Hughes County. Her hobbies included watching sports, especially OU football.
Preceding her in death were her brothers, Danny and Michael Weger.
Survivors include Sipes’ husband, Jimmy, of the home; her children, Jimmy Ray Sipes Jr., Danny Sipes, and Brandi Sipes, all of Holdenville; her mother, Florene Weger; her brother, Larry Weger of Sasakwa; and her sisters, Sharon Bryant of Seminole, Janie Pierce of Allen, and Pamela Calvert of Holdenville; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Smith, Craig Smith, Chase Weger, Zachary Weger, Jason Weger, and Jesse Weger. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Colton Harjo and Clint Sipes.
Dorthy Slusher
Funeral services for longtime Konawa resident Dorthy Lee (Hailey) Slusher are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Konawa Assembly of God Church with Rev. Steve Lowrance officiating.
Burial is to follow at Vamoosa Cemetery with services under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.
Dorthy passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Kindred Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 77. She was born Oct. 28, 1930 in Sasakwa to Alvie T. Hailey & Mamie Jane (Huddleston) Hailey.
On July 21, 1962 Dorthy married Benny Slusher in Gainesville, Texas.
She was a loving homemaker and a member of Konawa Assembly of God Church.
Dorthy’s generosity, kind heart and love of God were an inspiration to her family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Benny Slusher of the home; one daughter, Debbie Wood and her husband David of Konawa; two brothers, Gene Hailey and Dean Hailey, both of Tulsa; one sister, Peggy Sendell of Savannah, Ga.; two granddaughters, Tiffany Dame of Seminole and Deanna Wood of Norman; two great-grandchildren, Taryn Nicole and Braden Christian Dame of Seminole; and a host of other family and friends.
Her parents; one brother, Otis T. Hailey; one sister, Lois Lawler and an infant sister, Billie Jean Hailey, preceded her in death.
Eileen Smart
Funeral services for former Seminole resident Eileen Marie (Bobbitt) Smart are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
Richard Billingsle and Rob Gore will officiate the services. Interment is to follow at Little Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Lee officiating.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Smart, 62, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008 in McKinney, Texas. She was born Oct. 11, 1045 in Richmond, Calif., to Rev. Dwayne D. and Virginia Lee (Hyatt) Bobbitt.
She worked in customer service at the Credit Union of Texas and was a member of Faith Fellowship Church.
On July 9, 1971 she married Rich Smart in Oklahoma City
Her father (Sept. 27, 2004) and one sister, Coleen Bobbitt preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband; mother, Virginia Lee Bobbitt of Seminole; four daughters: Leona Bolding of Oak Point, Texas, Gail Snider of Pilot Point, Texas, Lisa McGee, and Regina Stillwell of Seminole; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be: Wade Baker, Joe Houck, Ronald Davidson, Troy Carpenter, Mark Poulter and Chris Wooten.
Honorary beaers will be Joe Milligan and Larry Davidson.
Donald Smith
There will be no graveside services at the request of Seminole resident Donald Ray Smith Sr.
Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Smith died Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the age of 67. He was born Dec. 24, 1940 to Jack and Pearl Smith.
He served in the military for 22 years and after retirement from the U.S. Air Force; he drove a semi-truck for several years. On Oct. 10, 1959 he married Mary Ann Boaz.
His parents and sister, Mary Lou Savage, preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife of Seminole; sister, Rita Newman of Seminole; his children: Brenda Chittum, Donald Ray Smith Jr., and Stacie Yeubanks, all of Seminole, and Roger Smith of Maud; and nine grandchildren.
Edward Smith
Funeral services for longtime Wewoka resident Edward "Eddie" Smith are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, Wewoka, with Rev. Sterling Mitchell of Oklahoma City officiating.
Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Edward "Eddie" Smith passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008. He was born in Hugo, Okla., on Aug. 25, 1918 and his parents were Oliver and Hattie (Colbert) Smith.
In 1925 the family moved to Boley, Okla., where he was educated at Rust Schools. In 1935 the family then moved back to Wewoka and he received his education from Wewoka Douglas Public Schools.
Eddie was a faithful, loyal, and devoted member of Jones Temple CME Church, where he was a Stewart for over 40 years, and was Chairman over the Stewart Board for over 10 years.
He performed many voluntary services for the church, providing transportation to and from church for elderly members.
He also oversaw church banking, utilities, and other necessary church and custodial duties. Eddie was a member of Livingston Masonic Lodge #175.
Eddie worked for Myles Dress Shop for 11 years and S.E.E. Incorporated in Wewoka as a shipping clerk for 23 years before retiring.
He married Easter (Berry) Smith on Dec. 21, 1946, and together they had nine children: Sherry (Smith) Madkins of Wewoka, Edward Smith and wife Rosir of Oklahoma City, Gary Smith and wife Debra of Holdenville, Lindell Smith and wife Laverne of Edmond, Richard Smith and wife Terry of Edmond, Tony Smith and wife reishona of Oklahoma City, Kaye (Smith) Williams of Oklahoma City, Terry Smith and wife Vonda of Edmond, and Easter Regina (Smith) Hamilton and husband Ricky of Wewoka.
Together they also had 24 grandkids and 29 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
