Wanda Yvonne Spence went to be with the Lord on Sept. 5. She was born in Seminole, on Aug. 5, 1929 to Diamond and Jacquetta Hammon Jackson.
Wanda grew up and graduated from Wewoka High School in 1950. She married the love of her life, Woodrow Spence, on Jan. 17, 1954.
Together, they had one daughter, Karen, on Sept. 6, 1959.
Wanda was known for her servant’s heart, helpfulness and compassion. She worked for many years for Southwestern Bell Telephone. In 1978 she began working at Wewoka Elementary in the reading program and assisting teachers in any way she could. Wanda had a love for animals and was a founding member of the Wewoka Humane Society.
Her parents preceded Wanda in death.
She is survived by a daughter; Karen and her husband Cary Robinson, grandchildren; Lauren and Kristen Robinson, of Wewoka and Nicholas Robinson, of Tulsa, one sister; Joyce Tucker, of Wewoka, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at First Baptist Church, in Wewoka. Internment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Officiating the service will be Pastor Russell Ryker, of Hilltop Free Will Baptist Church and Pastor Michael Vanlandingham, of the Wewoka First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Cary and Nick Robinson, Guy, Heath and Barry Tucker, and Kerry Kincade.
Honorary pallbearers are Cecil Moore, Ted V. Tucker, Billy, Tyson Tucker and Brayle Brown, and Bart Streeter.

Raymond Spoonemore
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Raymond L. Spoonemore are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Seminole.
Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate the service with Rev. Wade Robertson assisting.
Interment is to follow at Little Cemetery with services under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.
Spoonemore, 89, died Saturday, April 12, 2008 in Shawnee. He was born May 23, 1918 in Seminole County to Maggie (Reback) and Edward Ambrose Spoonemore.
He had served in the U.S. Army and worked as a farmer. On May 23, 1951 he married Flossie Lee Moore in Konawa and they have been longtime members of Harvey Road Baptist Church in Seminole.
His parents and two brothers, Cecil and Chalmer Spoonemore, preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife of the home; two sons: Cecil and Larry Spoonemore, both of Seminole; one sister, Ona Woody of Seminole; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Pallbearers will be: Bob Westmoland, J.P. "Doc" Duvall, Danny Reed, Forrest Weast, Ricky Marquis and Ted North.
Honorary bearers will be: Kenneth Lail, George Odor, Gene Knight, Ray Jackson, Joe Holley and Jack Stach.
Carrie Louise Staley
Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Carrie Louise Staley are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.
Interment is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery with services being under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Louise, 85, passed away Friday, May 30, 2008 at Seminole Estates Nursing Home, Seminole. She was born Aug. 6, 1922 in Maud to William Robert Burton and Carrie Roberts.
On Oct. 22, 1939 she married Vernon Edward Staley in Seminole and she worked as a quality control inspector for Western Electric for 20 years before retiring in 1982.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Seminole and Louise loved her poodle dogs; loved to collect dolls; and liked to travel.
Her parents, three brothers, one sister, and one granddaughter, Laura Staley, preceded her in death.
Surviving is her husband, Vernon E. Staley of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law: William Eddie and Linda Staley and Vernon Paul Staley, all of Seminole; six grandchildren and their spouses: Scott and Rose Staley, Steven Staley, and Todd Staley, all of Seminole, Jansen Staley of Tulsa, and Kassie and Lucas Smith of Sand Springs; and 11 great-grandchildren: Adam, Alyssa, Stormie and Grace Staley, Patrick and Anna Staley, Sierra, Beau and Vernon Staley, and Garrett and Katelynd Smith.
Pallbearers for the services will be: Scott Staley, Steven Staley, Todd Staley, Jansen Staley, Adam Staley and Lucas Smith.
Gentry Starnes
Funeral services for Wewoka native Gentry Starnes Jr. are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel.
Burial is to follow at Westwood Cemetery, Wewoka, with services being under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Starnes, 60, died Saturday, June 7, 2008 in Oklahoma City. He was born June 12, 1947 in Wewoka to Gentry Starnes Sr. and Mattie Odessa (Moore) Starnes.
He worked for the City of Wewoka with the Sanitation Department for a number of years. Starnes was of the Baptist faith and served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army, where he was awarded a Purple Heart Medal for his service.
His parents and siblings: Melvin Bruner, Ivory Starnes, Jerry Allen Starnes, Jerry Starnes, and Lottie Starnes, preceded him in death.
Surviving are siblings: R.D. Bruner of Holdenville, Henry Starnes of Oklahoma City, Johnny Starnes of Seminole, Keith Starnes of Shawnee, Ola Mae Blakley of Shawnee, Imogene Bruner of Oklahoma City, Oillie Starnes Payne of Shawnee, Mattie Booker of Shawnee, and Theresa Starnes of Wewoka.
Alphonzo Stevenson
Funeral services for lifelong Wewoka resident Alphonzo Stevenson are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Wewoka, with Rev. A.T. Watts of Shawnee officiating.
Burial is to follow at Westwood Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Myers Mortuary, Wewoka.
Stevenson, 71, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Midwest City Medical Center, Midwest City. He was born Sept. 26, 1936 in Wewoka to Moses and Daisy Stevenson.
He was the fifth of ten children born to his parents and he received his education in the Douglass Schools. He graduated in 1955.
Stevenson united with Jones Temple C.M.E. Church at an early age and worked in all areas of the church. He served as the recording secretary, program co-chairman, and chairman of the food service.
He also served as president of the Westside Concerned Citizens; as a sponsor of the Hi-Y Boys Club; and president of the Wewoka Chapter of the NAACP.
Stevenson worked at Tinker Air Force Base as a shipping and receiving supply specialist, and was a member of the Army Reserve, where he served as Mess Sergeant E-7 for 21 years.
His parents; one brother, Robert Louis Stevenson; and three sisters: Josephine Stevenson, Wilma Jean Malone, and Mary Maple Verando, preceded him in death.
Surviving are sisters: Earnestine Gray of Oklahoma City and Luwanda Byrd of Wewoka; and brothers: Wilbur Stevenson and Willie Frank Stevenson, both of Wewoka.
Robert Stewart
Funeral services for Wewoka resident Robert W. Stewart are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Seminole.
Traditional viewing will take place Saturday and Sunday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the home, 1742 Seran Drive, Wewoka.
Wake service is scheduled for Monday at Indian Nations, Seminole from 7 – 8:30 p.m.
Burial at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Shawnee, is to follow the Wednesday funeral service and a dinner will be held at Indian Nations following internment.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.
Stewart died Thursday, April 3, 2008 at his home in Wewoka. He was born Oct. 15, 1915 in Spaulding, Okla., to Albert and Nora Stewart of Wewoka.
At the age of 16 he served in the National Guard Reserve/Medical Corp in Oklahoma. He later relocated to California, where he worked for Lockheed for 37 years.
On June 28, 1941 he married his wife at Gretna Green Chapel in Yuma, Ariz.
He was an ordained deacon at First Indian Baptist Church and also licensed to minister in Southgate, Calif. After retiring from Lockheed he served as a deacon for Indian Nations in Seminole.
Stewart was Creek and a member of the Seminole Nation; a member of the Alligator Clan; and a member of the Tom Palmer Band.
His parents; son, Courtney; daughter, Regina Paulette; sisters: Dora Hawkins and Minnie Johnson; and brothers: Thomas A., George, and William, preceded him in death.
Surviving is his wife Pauline Herrod Stewart of the home; two sons, Robert Jr., and Joseph; two daughters, Darlene Henneha and Alberta Morrow; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be: Jesse Caruso, Paul Stewart, Sam Caruso, Joseph Stewart, Jr., Lance Walker, and Will Morrow.
Linda Stone
Linda Gipson Stone of Seminole passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 18, after a sudden illness.
Linda, the matriarch of her family, was born in Seminole, on May 13, 1941, to Fred and Leola (Dickey) Gipson.
She was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a degree in English and a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She continued her education by earning her masters degree from the University of Central Oklahoma as a media specialist. Linda dedicated over twenty years of her life to the field of education serving not only as a teacher, but also serving several years as a member of the Seminole School Board. She also sponsored school activities such as cheerleading and teaching alternative school at night. She enjoyed her career in teaching at Seminole High School where she was able to watch her own children graduate.
She was an active member of St. Marks Episcopal Church where she was a Lay Reader and a member of Chapter CL P.E.O.
Linda treasured her time with her husband and particularly their daily games of pool. Some of Linda’s favorite activities were playing bridge with her life long friends, reading and traveling.
Linda was a true lady who always held her family and friends very close to her heart. She was fondly called LaLa by her grandchildren, grandnieces and nephews who always looked forward to their time with her at "Camp Seminole".
Linda is survived by her husband, Ralph Stone; her son Cal Sharpe, his wife Way and her granddaughter Kat, of Seminole, her son John Sharpe, his fiancée Brooke, and her son Conley, of Tulsa, and her daughter, Susan Downs, her husband Jeff, and her grandchildren Todd and Abby, of Norman. She is also survived by her brother Fred Gipson, and several nieces and nephews, all of Norman, her cousins Dickey and Mary Bryan, of Seminole, and Sam and Jane Poole, of Houston, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Friday, Nov. 21, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jim Knowles officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1304 Seminole, 74868 or the charity of your choice.
Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, 100 W. Strothers, Seminole.
Ozie Stone
Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Ozie Bob Stone Jr., are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Spring Baptist Church in Sasakwa.
Burial is to follow at Spring Baptist Church Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Stone died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was born Aug. 12, 1961 in Talihina, Okla., to Ozie Bob and Lana Joyce (Wood) Stone.
He was an innovative and popular hairstylist to many during the 1980s and 1990s.
His parents preceded him in death.
Surviving is brother, Mickey Wayne Stone of Seminole and sister, Rebecca Lyn Stone of Wewoka.
Pallbearers will be: Bryan Langwell, Mark Holley, Billy Wood, Thomas Jefferson Harjo Jr., and Dan Faulkner. Honorary bearers will be: T.J. Stone, Terry Stone, John Stone, Zechariah Stone-Moore, and Sebastian Stone-Moore.
