Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery with services under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
Glenda passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at her home. She was born Sept. 22, 1941 to George and Gatha (Glass) Harris, in the small town of Wewoka.
They lived a simple life, George was a mechanic for the local Chevrolet garage and Gatha was a homemaker. As an only child, Glenda enjoyed taking Sunday afternoon drives with her parents and beloved dog. She has always loved dogs of any type.
Glenda attended grades 1-12 at Wewoka Public Schools and she loved classes that taught her how to sew and cook; and she learned early on that she had a skill to deal with people.
The family spent time on trips to California to visit with George’s twin sister, Betty.
Glenda met Charles, her loving husband, in their senior year of high school. They were married Sept. 22, 1961.
They moved to Seminole to live "the Great American Dream". They rented a small house on the west side of town and Glenda went to work for an attorney, and Charles went to work for OG&E.
Glenda worked for the attorney for two or three years and then was offered a job working for Oklahoma Employment Securities Commission.
She enjoyed her time working in the claims department helping people. Glenda then became a State Investigator, this job was stressful and dangerous, but she was strong-willed and enjoyed being a leader of her community and state.
She retired from service in 1987, in order to enjoy the life her and Charles had built together. After a few months of retirement she decided to go to college.
Glenda had never attended college of any sort and chose to do so with her daughter, Angela. Together they attended Seminole Junior College, graduating in 1991, as a Registered Nurse.
She then worked at Midwest City Hospital for a few years until she again decided she was ready for retirement.
Glenda had a zest for life that many of us still search for today. She could brighten any room with her smile and caring ways.
Glenda was the best mother a daughter could ask for. Angela can share stories of their travels around the world and throughout their life together.
Angela and Glenda shared a passion for gardens, as the years grew on Glenda turned her backyard, which was once a swimming pool filled with smiling children, into a backyard oasis. Charles even joined in and they created a masterpiece for all to see.
At any time you could ask Glenda, "Hey what type of plant or flower is this and will it grow here?" She could grow a flower out of a rock and never use water.
She had the gift of beauty and shred her life with many over the years.
Glenda was a beloved friend to many and a blessed member of her loving family.
Glenda leaves behind her father of 93 years, living in Seminole; her loving husband, Charles, of Seminole; and her daughter Angela Murray of Oklahoma City (who will forever miss her mother and best friend).
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in honor of her name to the Alzheimer Association, 3555 NW 58th, Suite 220, Oklahoma City, OK 43112.
