Bud Bailey, Sr.

S.J. (Bud) Bailey Sr., 77 year old Seminole OK resident died Saturday, March 26, 2016 in OKC, OK.

Born July 6, 1938 to Homer Woodrow Bailey & Anna Jewel (Hill) Bailey.

Bud attended Strother Schools and Hills Business College, graduating as a certified court stenographer.

In OKC Bud created "Bailey Court Reporting" which would grow to be the largest independent court reporting firm in the southwest U.S. Retiring in 2013 to north Seminole county, on the "old home place."

The Naval veteran and avid motorcyclist leaves behind two sons S.J. (Sonny) Bailey Jr. (Bonnie) of Bison, OK and Michael Alan Bailey (Teresa) of Mustang; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, a sister and brother in law Robbie Sue and Billy Wilson of Pasadena, Texas and two nephews.

A Memorial service will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday March 29, 2016 at McNeil’s Funeral Service 525 W Highway 152 Mustang.

Anita Coleman

Anita Ann Boatman Coleman died Sunday, April 3, 2016 in Raleigh, N.C. after a long illness. She was born August 12, 1957 and she was the daughter of the late Frank and Janice Boatman, of Lubbock, Texas.

She left behind a husband, Herbert Coleman.

She was preceded by her parents, a sister, Carolyn Boatman Worthy and a Niece and Nephew, Donna Moreno and James Worthy of Lubbock Texas.

Enide Adair

Enide Lou Cunningham Adair left her earthly life on February 13, 2016.

She was born in Calvin, Oklahoma on December 27, 1933 to Thelma Catherine Williams Cunningham and Clarence Homer Cunningham, the third girl of a family of eight children.

She married Jack Walter Adair on June 6, 1964 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Enide is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Neva Floy Alt and Barbara Faith Forsythe, and brothers, Buddy Addison Cunningham, Bryant Homer Cunningham and John Dennis Cunningham.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; son, Jeff Walter Adair and his wife Karina; two grandchildren, Leonardo and Katherine; sister, Velda Ruth Hough and brother, David Lee Cunningham, and many nieces and nephews.

Enide graduated from Wewoka High School in 1952 and stayed in close contact with members of her graduating class her entire life.

Enide was an active member of the Oklahoma Prairies Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed researching and compiling family genealogy and composing poetry.

Visitation will be Tuesday at Mercer-Adams, from 9am-9pm with the family present from 6-9pm. Services will be held at 2pm, Wed., Feb 17, 2016 at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service in Bethany with burial to follow in Arlington Memory Gardens, Midwest City, OK.

Winnie Yancey

Life long Seminole resident, Winnie Ruth (Jackson) Yancey, affectionately known as "Woo" to her family, passed away at her home in Seminole on Monday, February 1, 2016 with her family by her side.

Winnie was born in Seminole on November 25, 1934 to Lemuel James and Bernice Jackson (Hieronymus).

Winnie grew up in the Plant 13 area south of Seminole and attended Bowlegs school from which she graduated in 1952.

Winnie married, Carl "Bo" Yancey on July 5, 1952. Winnie loved her church and was a long time member of the Church of Christ.

She began her career as a bookkeeper at Norton-Ramsey Chevrolet in Seminole and worked at various Chevrolet and Ford dealerships in Texas. She then spent 17 years with Teachers Credit Union in Oklahoma City. She later worked as site manager at Konawa Senior Citizens Nutrition Center where she loved working with the senior citizens.

She ran an antique and collectable shop in the house next to her own for many years and enjoyed opening for business whenever a shopper would stop by. Winnie was also a former member of the, "Pink Rose Flower Club, " in Seminole.

After Winnie retired, she was a full time homemaker, which was her passion. Winnie also enjoyed writing poetry and short stories, working on genealogy, growing flowers, bird watching, her cats, reading, watching her grandsons play sports, and spending time with her family.

Winnie is preceded in death by her parents: Lemuel James and Bernice Jackson; two brothers, Lemuel James Jackson, Jr., Billy Joe Jackson, and one son, Russell Clay Yancey.

Winnie is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Carl "Bo" Yancey; one daughter, Kathy Lynn (Yancey) Rosamond; one brother, Carl Don Jackson; five grandchildren, Clayton Yancey, Cole Yancey, Grant "Matt" Rosamond, Joshua Rosamond, Amanda (Rosamond) Hodge; four great-grandsons, and one great-granddaughter.

Family with greet visitors Friday, February 5, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Graveside services will be held at Little Cemetery at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 6, 2016 with Ray Newell, elder of the Walnut Street Church of Christ in Seminole, officiating the service.

Serving as casket bearers are: Clayton Yancey, Larry Sneed, Bobby Allen and Ryan Harris. Honorary casket bearers are: Cole Yancey, Matt Rosamond, Joshua Rosamond, Melvin Matthews and Charles Padgett.

Funeral services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole, Oklahoma.

Audie Woodard

Audie Wayne Woodard, 79, longtime Seminole resident, died Thursday, January 28, 2016 at his home. Audie was born on June 9, 1936, in Cache, Oklahoma to Earl Marvin and Elmer Edna (Price) Woodard. He grew up in Cache, where he attended school and graduated from Cache High School in 1954.

After high school, Audie attended and graduated from Cameron Junior College in Lawton, Oklahoma, with an associate’s degree and then went to Midwestern College in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he received his bachelor’s degree in education. He went to Cameron University and Midwestern State College on a basketball scholarship.

He later received his master’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and his doctorate degree from Oklahoma State University, all while continuing to perform his duties as an educator.

His adult life was spent as an educator, basketball coach, principal, counselor and superintendent. Audie never stopped learning. He came to Seminole from Weatherford, Oklahoma Public Schools, where he worked from 1975 to 1980. He served Seminole Public Schools as superintendent from July 1, 1980 to June 30, 1991.

After retirement, he continued his work in education, with Barlow & Associates, as an education consultant, specializing in school financing and grants. He was still active with Barlow at the time of his death.

While in Seminole he was involved in the Chamber of Commerce, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Rotary Club, as well as many state, national teacher and superintendent professional organizations.

Audie loved all sports. He love to read, going to the movies, playing music, especially bluegrass music, where he was a gifted musician that learned to play the banjo, fiddle, harmonica and piano, all by ear. He loved genealogy and loved learning, which he continued to do so until his death.

Of all the things he did and enjoyed doing, his true love was his wife, children and grandchildren. He had the honor of handing each of his children their high school diploma, when they graduated from high school. He kept in close contact with his grandchildren and remained deeply involved in their lives.

He was survived by his wife of 59 plus years, Gail Woodard of the home in Seminole; two sons, Craig Woodard and his wife, Stephanie, of Nevada, Texas, Blake Woodard and his wife, Mareta, of Enid, Oklahoma, his daughter, Susan Kitson and her husband, Scott, of Ashville, North Carolina, his brother, Larry Woodard and his wife, Carole, of Frisco, Texas, his grandchildren, Courtney Harding and her husband Kyle, Colton Woodard, Chase Woodard and his wife Rachel, Kiley Woodard, Matthew Kitson, Quincy Kitson and James Kitson, two great grandchildren, Camryn Harding and Hawkins Harding.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Edna Reeves.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma, with Elizabeth Davis officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the "Audie Woodard Memorial Scholarship Fund" for an outstanding Seminole High School graduating senior seeking a profession in education. Send donations to Seminole Public Schools @ 617 N. Timmons Street, Seminole, Oklahoma 74868.

Cariol Wheeler

Cariol Dovey Wheeler, an Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, resident passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 in Oklahoma City, at the age of 65.

Cariol was born January 1, 1951 in Miami, Oklahoma to parents, Otis W. Moore and Virbie Leta June (Jones) Moore. Cariol was of the Christian faith and was employed as a nursing assistant at several nursing homes.

Cariol is survived by three sons, Warren Briggs and his wife Cheryl of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Daniel Burton and his wife Sheila of California, Thomas Burton and his wife Angela of Seminole, Oklahoma; one daughter, Espy Boswell and her husband Jason of Colorado; four brothers, Otis Moore, Jr., Dwayne F. Moore, Charles A.L. Moore, Paul R. Moore; two sisters, Glenda Jean Cole of Oklahoma and Crystal A.T.F.I. Moore; 12 grandchildren, Steven Briggs, Christopher Briggs, Connor Briggs, Dylan Burton, Jordan Burton, Kyleah Burton, Josh Boswell, Will Boswell, Katie Boswell, Allen Boswell, Bailey Burton, and Brandon Burton.

Cariol was preceded in death by her father, Otis Moore; mother, Virbie Leta June (Jones) Moore; husband, Wiley Wayne Wheeler and sister, Nadine June Starkey.

A Memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2016 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole, Oklahoma.

James Walker

James Leon Walker, nicknames "Bones" and "Buster, " 74, went to be with the Lord, Monday, Aug. 9, 2016, at his residence in Shawnee.

Bones was born to Willard Walker Sr. and Henryetta Bentley Walker on Dec. 13, 1941, in McLoud.

He was married to Penny Alexander and later married Cynthia Longhorn and Francis Butler.

Bones went to Dale High School. Bones served in the United States Army for four years as a marksmen and infantry in Germany. Then he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving for over 18 years.

Bones was an ordained minister. He was a member of the Native American Church.

Bones was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: brothers, Leroy Walker, Henry Walker, Leonard Walker, Bennie Walker, Marlin "Oskus" Walker and sister, Baby Walker-Stillborn.

He is survived by his sons, Jonas Walker of the Home, Cecil Walker of Shawnee, Chip Walker of Shawnee, Johnny Ray Walker of Shawnee and daughter Channa Walker LaFromboise, Sunrise Tiger Ross and Sharon Tiger, brothers, Willard "Poncho" Walker, Forrest "Kesko" Walker, sisters, Mary Dora Kaskuske, Lela Walker and Catherine Walker, numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the Walker Home Place. Burial followed at the Walker Home place early Wednesday before Sunrise.

Roy VanZant

Roy M. VanZant, 64 year old longtime Seminole County resident and current Midwest City resident, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 20, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma. He was born September 15, 1951 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to parents, Junior M. VanZant and Mary Pearl (Gray) VanZant.

Roy worked as a mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Oklahoma until his retirement.

Survivors include three sons; Casey VanZant of Long Island, New York, Avery VanZant of Seminole, Oklahoma, Nathan VanZant of Seminole, Oklahoma; two daughters, D.D. VanZant of Dallas, Texas, Miracle Johnson of Mountain Air, New Mexico; three brothers, "Cozzy" VanZant of Harrah, Oklahoma, Michael VanZant of West Fork, Arkansas, G.W. Cross of Coweta, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mary Ann Briscoe of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Georgia Anna Gibson of Moore, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and dear friends.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Junior and Mary Pearl VanZant, and by one brother, Walter VanZant.

Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Details for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Loretta Underwood

Funeral services for Loretta Lynn Underwood will be held Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Cromwell Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will follow at the Welty Cemetery.

Loretta Lynn Underwood was born March 20, 1968 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Donald Rich and Charlsie (Bevan) Rich. She passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in Okemah at the age of 47.

Loretta was a 1986 graduate of Mason High School. She and Richard Underwood were married April 29, 1988 in Cromwell, Oklahoma. Loretta was a former daycare worker; having worked for Webbs Daycare near Cromwell.

She also worked for the sewing factory in Pharoah, Oklahoma and the Wrangler Plant in Okemah. Loretta was a member of the 8th Street Community Holiness Church of Okemah.

She is preceded in death by her father and grandparents.

Survivors include her husband Richard Underwood of Castle, Oklahoma; her mother, Charlsie Rich of Okemah; one brother, Mark Rich of Okemah and her grandmother, Emily Bevans of Okemah.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Josh Mosley, Kelwin Ashley, Edward Dodson, Nicholas Dodson, Bruce Brown and Bill Chesser, Jr.

Honorary bearers include Allen Carter and Eddie Jones.

Services will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home, Okemah and officiated by Rev. Ruby Nail York and assisted by Rev. Larry Chesser.
