Melvin Anderson

Dr. Melvin Anderson, 103, longtime Seminole resident died Feb. 27, 2105 in Ardmore, Okla., services are pending with Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Okla.

Billy Armstrong

Billy Joe Armstrong, age 67 and a resident of Konawa, Okla. passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at his home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2015 at Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.

Rev. Ed George will officiate, and burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Travis O’Dell, Steve Anderson, Larry Bruno, Blaine Armstrong, Bobby Armstrong, Dallas Armstrong, and Doyle Wederski. Honorary pallbearers are T. A. Larney, Frank Armstrong, Dusty Armstrong, Clint Hanks, and Ronnie O’Dell.

Billy was born on Jan. 5, 1948 in Lawton, Okla. to Hobart Armstrong and Irene (Coker) Armstrong.

After graduating from Asher High School and attending Lincoln Tech, he worked as an oilfield driller.

He is survived by one son, Darrell Armstrong of Crowley, Tex.; one daughter, Angela Armstrong of Konawa; one brother, Frank Armstrong also of Konawa; three sisters, Edna Mae O’Dell, Katie Breeden, and Nettie Moreland all of Asher; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hobart and Irene Armstrong; one daughter, Julia Armstrong; two brothers, Danny and Robert Armstrong, and one sister, Mary Wiley.

Elsie Arthur

Elsie Edna (Bailey) Arthur, 87 passed away on April 23, 2015.

She was born Feb. 24, 1928 in Lamar area of Hughes County, Oklahoma to Sam and Edna Jane (Meeks) Bailey.

Elsie had eight siblings, attended Shady Grove School south of Lamar and graduated from Lamar High School in 1946.

She married Bert Arthur on April 26, 1950 in Van Burean, Ark.

To this union were six children, Janie, Rick, Barney, Steve, Jim and Russell.

Elsie worked at Boyce Manor Nursing Home, Seampruf and as a provider in Eufaula and Holdenville and cleaned houses in Eufaula.

Known best for cooking, she loved to ensure that everyone who came to visit never left hungry.

She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Crocheting, working crossword puzzles and sewing were her favorite pastimes.

Preceding Elsie in death are her parents, husband, four sisters and three brothers, and daughter-in-law Pam Arthur.

Survivors include her children Janie Fisher and husband Danny of Seminole, Rick Arthur and wife Kathe of Holdenville, Steve Arthur of Holdenville, Jim Arthur and wife Lisa of Thackerville, Russell Arthur and wife Pamela of Lamar, and Barney Arthur and wife Dr. Kay Arthur of Lamar, 30 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service has been scheduled for 2:00m p.m on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the Lamar Community Center in Lamar.

Pastor Daniel Fisher will officiate the service assisted by Bro. Jerry Sherfield.

Pallbearers will be Mike Goodson, Mark Goodson, John Goodson, Laren Robison, Bobby Smith, and Butch Skipworth.

Interment will follow at the Lamar Cemetery in Lamar, Okla.

Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville, Okla.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the Lamar Cemetery Fund, 8694 E Broadway, Lamar, OK 74850.

Brian Bacon

Brian Daniel Bacon, 36 year old Bethel Acres resident passed from this life on his birthday Sunday, March 15, 2015 in a motorcycle accident on Hwy 177 north of Shawnee.

He was born March 15, 1979 in Oklahoma City to parents, Jerry Ray Bacon and Susan Jane (Calvert) Bacon.

Following his graduation from high school Brian joined the United States Marine Corp.

Brian was a flight equipment technician for 14 years and 7 months.

During his service to our Country, he participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom serving three tours to Iraq, from 2004 through 2009.

Brian had earned the Marksman Badge, the Sharpshooter Badge and the rank of Staff Sergeant.

During one of his returns from Iraq he married Pamela Sue Arens on April 25, 2006 in Jacksonville, N.C.

Brian retired from the United States Marine Corp. and returned with his family to Shawnee.

Brian leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Pamela Sue (Arens) Bacon of the home; one daughter, Taydem Sue Bacon of the home; his father, Jerry Ray Bacon of Newcastle, Okla.; his mother-in-law, Helen Arens of New Haven, Ind.; his father-in-law, David and his wife Kathy Arens of Woodburn, Ind.; two sisters, Lisa Haseltine of Haltom City, Tex. and his twin sister, Brandi Cox of Shawnee, Okla.; two brothers-in-law, Jeff Arens of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Matt Arens and his wife Kelly of New Haven, Ind.; three nieces, Kylee Cox, Kelsey Cox and Jaci Hand; five nephews, Connor Cox, Jeremiah Hand, Zach Arens, Tyler Arens and Owen Arens; one great-nephew, Blayden Cagle; grandmothers-in-law, Alvina Rogers of New Haven, Ind. and Beverly Robbins of Angola, Ind.; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Brian was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Jane (Calvert) "Sue" Bacon; and his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Pauline Calvert; and by grandfather-in-law, Edward Rogers.

Memorial services with military honors are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Blackburn Chapel Church located at 36305 Lake Road in Shawnee, Okla., with Pastor Larry Sparks officiating the service.

Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Okla.

Brian Bacon

Brian Daniel Bacon, 39 year old, Bethel Acres resident, and retired United States Marine, passed from this life on his birthday, Sunday, March 15, 2015 in a motorcycle accident north of Shawnee on Hwy. 177.

Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Blackburn Chapel in Bethel Acres.

Robert Bailey

Robert Nathaniel Bailey, age 76 and a resident of Asher, Okla. passed away on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015 at Colonial Estates in Shawnee, Okla.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date, and cremation is under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa, Okla.

Robert was born on Oct. 27, 1938 in Asher, Okla. to Enis Bailey and Evelyn (Conn) Bailey.

He graduated from Asher High School and married Wilda Rush.

He worked as a foreman of the road crew for Pottawatomie County and was a former Mayor of Asher.

He is survived by one son, Gary Bailey of Stonewall, Okla.; one daughter, Leisa McMillin of Asher, Okla.; two brothers, Lloyd Bailey of Oklahoma City, and Donnie Bailey of Shawnee; three sisters, Marilyn Jackson of Burleson, Texas, Pat Gurney of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Cathy Zeelenberg of San Antonio, Tex.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Sarah Baker

Sarah "Sally" Audrey Lovine (Schafer) Baker passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 at Heritage Hills Nursing Home in McAlester at the age of 67.

Sally was born March 17, 1948 in Higgins, Okla. to Gene Shaffer and Wanda Lee (Hurst).

She was a loving homemaker and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Sally loved spending time outside camping at the area lakes where she lived and enjoyed drinking her coffee.

She loved life and was loved by all who knew her. She also loved her dog, Mikey.

Sally is survived by her husband Rick Baker of Blocker; her dad, Billy Franklin of Wilburton; two sons, Brett Jones of Hartshorne and Bobby Adams of the home; two daughters, Tonya Adams Brown of Gowen and Tammy Ford and her husband Nathan of Jenks, Okla.; two brothers, Skeeter Franklin and his wife Sharon of Wilburton and Barry Franklin and his wife Kim of Gowen; one sister, Brenda Franklin of Hartshorne; grandchildren, Brittany Jones and Bo Jones of Bowlegs, Bailey Jones and Blakely Morris of Gowen, Tyler Joe Sipes and Blake Sipes of Gowen, Marissa Sipes of Shawnee, Sarah and Kaylee Brown of Hartshorne, Rebecca and Nate Ford of Jenks; great-grandchildren, Bretlea Layne Bolles and Khylen Valence; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Shaffer; mother Wanda Lee Franklin; grandmother, Gladys and uncles, Barry and Jim Mitchell and David Kuykendall.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Faith Assembly of God in Gowen with Pastor Jeff Ainsworth officiating.

Services are under the direction of OK Cremation and Funeral Home, Oklahoma City.

Jean Baldridge

Jean Baldridge, 84 year old longtime Seminole, Oklahoma resident passed from this life Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

She was born May 22, 1930 in Seminole to parents William McKinley Harris and Clara V. (Morgan) Harris.

Following her graduation from high school Jean went on to earn her bachelor degree in business from OU in 1957.

She then taught school for 4 years in Webb City, Mo.

Jean returned to Seminole in 1971 and worked for the Seminole Producer for 21 years in the composing department.

Following her retirement Jean kept busy volunteering with the Women’s Auxiliary at Seminole Hospital where she was a "Pink Lady."

She had also worked at the Seminole Historical Society Museum and was a member of the First Christian Church in Seminole.

Jean could also be seen often, doing her mile walking exercise at the "Bridge, " at the First Baptist Church in Seminole.

Jean leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Pamela Gregory and her husband Alvin of Maud, Okla.; two sisters, Doris H. Richmond and Clarice Morris both of Seminole, Okla.; one granddaughter, Carrie Lynne (Alpse) Brock and her husband Todd of Wewoka, Okla.; one grandson, Stanley "Stan" Gregory and his wife April of Maud, Okla.; five great-grandchildren, Colton Wood, Gage Wood, Jesse Ray "J.R." Brock, Ashley Gregory, Kyle Gregory and a host of other family and dear friends.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, William and Clara Harris and by one brother, Durard D. Harris.

Funeral services are scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Friday, Feb. 20, 2015 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Pastor Glen Pence officiating the service.

Interment services will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Donna Batt

Donna went to be with her savior after a short illness on April 1, 2015.

Donna was born in Durant, Okla. to Ronnie and Imagene Hill on Feb. 7, 1965.

Donna was a loving mother, daughter, sister and grandmother.

She is survived by two sons, Wesley and Kyle Ott; one granddaughter, Mckenzie Ott, her mother, Imagene Woodall, sister Rhonda and husband Randy Hilton, one nephew, Jason Timberlake, one niece, Hailey and husband Rhiason Glass, one nephew, Cameron Timberlake, all of Seminole, and many other loved ones and family.

She is preceded in death by her father Ronnie Hill and grandson, Kaden Ott.

Services are pending.
