‘Jake' Jacoby

Albert "Jake" Jacoby, 77, of Ontario, died Aug. 7, 2003, at his home.

His graveside funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. MDT at Rosedale Memorial Gardens in Payette, Idaho. Visitations will be Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. MDT at Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel, 2543 S.W. Fourth St. in Ontario.

Albert was born July 28, 1926, the youngest of 10 children born to Jacob and Katherine Jacoby. He was raised in Windsor, Colo., where his family worked in the produce fields. His mother always told stories of what a sweet, loving boy he was.

Albert served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He was stationed on a naval ship and was at sea his entire term. He received an honorable discharge when his tour was up. As a young man Albert had a jukebox vending machine business. He paid his employees with nickels they removed from the machines. In the 1940s this was considered a fair wage.

Albert also worked at a cement plant in Laramie, Wyo., for 11 years. He then transferred to the Durkee plant in 1956, working there as a crusher operator.

He married Alda Clark Bradley on May 14, 1960, and they lived in Ontario until his death. Albert retired from Oregon Portland Cement in 1988, but still worked as an engineering specialist for several years. After retiring, Albert and Alda spent their winters in Yuma, Ariz. They both enjoyed the area and the people they met there.

One of Albert's great pleasures was going to yard sales to find special treasures. Albert never met a stranger, and was always quick with a joke. He loved to harass and make people laugh. It seemed his mission in life was to make others happy. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. He was always there for his family and anyone who needed his help. Albert found great joy in his grandchildren; he had a special bond with each and every one of them. Albert will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Albert is survived by his wife of 43 years, Alda Jacoby; a son, Lester (Robyn) Jacoby; a daughter, Jeannie (Tim) Bates; grandchildren, David, Gary, Elizabeth, Melissa, Jacob and Kenzie Jacoby; great-grandchildren, Miranda, Jeffery, Zack and Chase Jacoby, and Dalton Bixby.

Harold Robert “Bob” Case

Harold Robert Bob Case
March 4, 1929 ~ July 17, 2014

Bob Case had a remarkable life. Born March 4, 1929 in Glenco, Illinois to parents Harold Claude Case and Phyllis Elizabeth Kirk, he was born deaf due to a medical mistake. Despite this, Bob attended public school and graduated with honors. He received a BS in Visual Communications from Boston University, a Graduate Fellowship with the Atomic Energy Commission at the Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies before returning to Boston University to complete an MS in Visual Communications.

Bob brought not only an enhanced visual acuity but a unique perspective to his distinguished career in photography. After receiving his MS in Communications he became Chief Photographer for Boston University, did historical research for the Cavalcade of America television series in Hollywood, documented post-colonial Africa for the Ford Foundation, and had his photographs exhibited in the Kodak Pavilion at two World's Fairs. His photographs have appeared in many publications, among them The Christian Science Monitor, Newsweek, Time, The Manchester Guardian, and The Sunday New York Times.

Apart from his work in photography, Bob contributed a lifetime of work within the deaf community, specifically in the distribution of TTYs (Teletypewriter; or TDD, Telecommunications Devices for the Deaf), and the development and distribution of Closed Captioning technology for nationwide television broadcasting.

Bob was a book collector, history buff, and was passionate about planes, trains, and automobiles. He had a great love of the Colorado Rockies where he spent a great deal of his time exploring the gold and silver mining towns that have been beautifully preserved in his recently published book, The Lure of Gold. He traveled widely, lived broadly, and never let anything stand in his way.

Pauline E. Way

There was no place on this earth that Mom would rather be than in her chair with a cat (or two) on her lap. She also liked to go to bed at night and contemplate the wonderful, deep sleep that she was about to experience. Ronda said that when she tucked her in at night she would say "oh, good" and snuggle into the wonderfullness of her warm, cozy bed.

Mom was a simple person who had no unreal expectations for life. She was who she was and she didn't try to complicate it with big wants and yearnings for fancy clothes or big homes. She loved her family. She loved baking bread and kneading it on an old bread board that came from the farm. (I inherited it and use it all the time) She loved the sound of her chickens and gathering eggs. She loved a cool glass of iced tea and a hot dog once in a while.

I don't remember her ever worrying. She just faced life with strength and courage that you don't see too often. She had a solid faith in God and truly believed that everything would be ok. She had a sensibility about life that we could all learn from. There was no "drama" with Mom. She just met her challenges straight on and took care of it.

Mom never tried to be something that she wasn't. What you saw was what you got. She sang on the top of her lungs in church (much to our dismay)and didn't care if people were looking back at her. She was making a joyful noise and that was between her and the Lord. Just sing louder so you don't have to listen!

I believe that this is what she is doing now. She is with all the people that she loves. She is laughing and carrying babies. She is puttering in her new home. Those are things that make her happy.

Ronald C. Taylor

Dr. Ronald Craig Taylor died Saturday August 7 in his home. He was 78 years of age. Ron was preceded in death by his son Peter, and his wife Nancy.

Survivors include, brother Thomas, son's Stephen, Matthew and Scott and daughters Kathleen, Marjie, Rebecca and Jennifer. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Ronald was born to Andrew Lavern Taylor and Agnes June TenEyck on June 2, 1932 in Seattle Washington. He attended school on Whidbey Island and graduated from Coupeville High School in 1950.

He always said that the best decision he ever made was when he married Nancy Louise Morris in Richland, Washington in 1953, his wife of 46 years.

He completed basic training at Ford Ord and was assigned to the United States Army Signal Corps as part of the Alaska Communications System. He was stationed at the federal building in Seattle, Wash. and Anchorage, AK as well as the Curry Repeater Station on the Alaska Railroad.

Ron earned Bachelors and Masters degrees from Central Washington and a PhD from the University of Oregon. He fully retired after 33 years from Southern Oregon University as an Emeritus Professor of Psychology.

Dr. Taylor was a board licensed psychologist and served as consultant and evaluator for several federal, state and private agencies. In addition to teaching at Southern, Ron was invited to teach courses, summers and on leaves, at several Universities in Oregon, Washington and Alaska. He was also a consultant to several national, state and local accrediting and evaluation agencies including educational testing services, veterans administration, social security disabilities, vocational rehabilitation division, etc.

Dr. Taylor helped to establish the Southern Oregon Head Start program and the Southern Oregon Child Study and treatment center. He was particularly gratified when his funding proposals were successful in the establishment and subsequent operation of the Alaskan Parent Child Centers in the villages of Hoonah and Kotzebue, Alaska.

These centers were an experimental downward extension of Head Start type services for younger children and their parents.

A cradle to grave Catholic who struggled with religion all of his life, he was ultimately a deeply spiritual person. He hoped God would bless all those who helped him think more clearly on the topic.

Dr. Taylor was a loving husband and father. He felt he could receive no finer tribute to his life than to have someone say of him that he gave everything for the love of his family.

Memorial contributions in his name may be made to a special education/ autism program of your choice.

A private graveside service was held at Scenic Hills Memorial Park in Ashland. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.
