Lucielle V. Jackson

Lucielle V. Jackson, of Roseburg, OR. went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus on September 14, 2011, at the age of 91. Lucielle was born on September 18, 1919, in Stockton, CA. to Roy and Vera Hartwell. She moved to Oregon with her family and went to Pinehurst School at Lincoln on the Green Springs. Her family moved into Ashland where she graduated from Ashland High School. While at Ashland High School she met Virgil Jackson whom she later married. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1987.

During WWII they moved to Vancouver, WA where Virgil worked in the Shipyards. After the war, they moved back to Ashland and became active members at the Church of the Nazarene. Lucielle was known for her great gift of hospitality and was a long time greeter at the church. Virgil and Lucielle were involved in many business ventures in the Rogue Valley from restaurants to advertising.

They have three sons – David and wife Bonnie of Brookings, OR; Mel and wife Jo of Seattle, WA; and Bob and wife Teresa of Roseburg, OR. Lucielle has 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Lucielle had three brothers – Kenneth and wife Maxine of Phoenix, OR, Clarence and wife Edna of Medford, OR, Clinton and wife Lenore of California and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her three brothers and one grandchild.

A potluck celebration of her life will be held at Grace Point Church of the Nazarene in Ashland on Saturday, September 24th at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a scholarship fund in her memory.

Ruth B. McCloud

Ruth Bell McCloud, 77, of Talent Ore., passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 18, 2011, surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with kidney failure.

Ruth was a native of the Rogue valley, born in Medford in 1933, to Elsie and Otis Garrett. She was raised on a dairy farm in Talent. After graduating from Talent High School in the class of 1952, she moved to Ashland to work for a finance company. In 1962, she married Walter McCloud. They lived happily for 14 years until Walter died in 1976. They had one daughter that Ruth raised with her mother after Walter passed away. Ruth worked at the Ashland Ranger Station from 1975 until she retired in 1997.

Ruth had a love of nature, gardening, dogs, books, camping, and family gatherings. Her most recent love was for her six year old grandson and spending her last years in rural Talent.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband and two older brothers. She is survived by daughter, Willow Nauth; son-in-law, Aaron Nauth; grandson, Ryon; and a large extended family that will miss her dearly.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 3:00 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 106 Clay St.

Memorial contributions in her honor can be made to Rogue Valley Dialysis Center or the Human Society of Southern Oregon.

Barbara Jean Jones

Barbara Fowler Jones died Friday, April 5th, 2013 in Oregon City, Oregon after years of being afflicted with Alzheimer’s. She was born April 21, 1927 to Forrest and Glen Fowler in Elk Creek, California. She married Fred Jones (d. June 16, 1990) on March 16, 1947 in Yreka, California.

They moved to Ashland, Oregon in 1953 where she was a housewife and mother to their three children Beverly, Ron (wife Yvonne), and Jon (wife Lynelle).

Her charities included March of Dimes and Cancer Society in the 1960's and she later worked with Meals on Wheels. In 1999 she won the Jackson County Community Service Award for her work with Meals on Wheels. She was also active in PTA and home extension for many years. A Christian, she and her husband attended the First United Methodist Church and later the Church of Christ and Ashland Christian Fellowship.

She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and a brother Donald Fowler. She leaves behind a sister Bonnie Collins, a brother Bud Fowler, various nieces and nephews, her children, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great grand children.

Her funeral service will be on Sunday, April 21 at 10:30 am at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland, Oregon. All who knew her are invited to attend.

Dean Richie

Dean Ritchie, 74, died Friday, April 6, 2012 at home in Ashland after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Chekota, OK, a son of Leslie and Nora Ritchie, on July 16, 1937. A part of the great “Okie” migration during the Dust Bowl days of the late 1930’s, the family moved from Oklahoma to California when Dean was an infant. Also in the Model T Ford were his parents, sister Virginia and grandmother Lona Maybell, who was half Cherokee. The family eventually settled in Stockton, CA. In addition to his sister, he is survived by a brother, Ronald, nephew Ron and nieces Kathy, Carol and Lois. Dean attended the College of the Pacific (now University of the Pacific) in Stockton.

Dean worked at IBM, San Jose for almost 35 years, retiring in 1991. He was also employed by Eastman Kodak in the 1990’s. He was married to the former Marvella Barcus in 1957 and had two sons, Michael (wife Laurie) of Sunnyvale, CA and John of Hong Kong. He was a member of the Silicon Valley Woodturners Association.

In 2000 Dean married the former Donna Hersperger Levis in Kauai, Hawaii. They moved to Ashland later that year, where they enjoyed the rich cultural life of the town. A lifelong gardener and landscaper, Dean became a Master Gardener in Ashland. He could often be seen on sunny mornings walking his cairn terrier, Ben, in downtown Ashland.

He loved his boys, his wife, and his special grand nephew, Ezra.

Dean was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where a celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 4:00 pm. Instead of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to ScienceWorks, 1500 East Main, Ashland, OR 97520 (scienceworksmuseum.org); or Trinity Church Garden, 44 North Second Street, Ashland, OR 97520. Veronica D. Williams

Veronica Delaney Williams, 88, of Talent, Oregon, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at home.

She was born April 25, 1924 in Liverpool, England, the daughter of Catherine Delaney and Edward Shannon. She was raised in England and served in the “Land Army” during World War II.

Following the war she married Ronald H. Williams in England. Dr. and Mrs. Williams moved to the United States where Veronica worked as an office manager in the property management industry.

Surviving are her nephew, Stan Potocki and many great and great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Stella Potocki Gordon.

Funeral services will be held at the Ashland Christian Fellowship on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Entombment will be at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Jim D. Wills

Jim D. Wills passed Thursday, November 8, 2012 in the comfort of his home with his family. He was born Jimmie Dale Wills, April 3, 1948 in Watonga, Oklahoma the son of Betty Ann and Dale G. Wills.

During the Vietnam War, from 1967 - 1970 he served in the United States Army, USCAR, Okinawa, he was an Intelligence Analyst. On October 12, 1967 in Weatherford, Oklahoma he married the former Monica Sale Patterson.

Jim taught special education classes in Grants Pass, Oregon. He enjoyed basketball, rock hunting, driving his tractor, fishing, beach combing and many outdoor activities with his family and friends.

Surviving Jim, is his wife, Monica, his son, Justin Wills; two daughters, Schazie Roberts and Serena Roberts; his grandchildren; Kara, Jaden, Jaxon, Lucius, Lucinda and Lola. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

The funeral for Jim D. Wills will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Litwiller – Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Interment will follow at the Eastwood Cemetery, Medford. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 16, 2012 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Litwiller – Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

George A. Harshman

George Allen Harshman, 80, Ashland, surrounded by his loving family, passed peacefully December 10, 2012 at his home.

George was born May 21, 1932 in Boise, ID, to Clara and Oral Harshman. The family moved to Crabtree, OR where he grew up, graduating from high school in Albany, OR.

It was in Crabtree where George met and married his wife and best friend of 60 years, Patsy Scott. Together they raised two sons, GR and Bruce. GR and his wife, Bobbi, live in Central Point and Bruce along with his wife Betsy reside in Talent.

George is survived by his wife Patsy, son, GR and Bruce, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both his parents and his brother, Roger Harshman.

George served in the US Army, 101st paratroopers during the Korean Conflict. After serving his country, George and his family owned and operated several road construction companies, Continental Construction, Easy Valley Construction, Ever Ready Construction, and Quality Rock Products. George retired in 2005.

The memorial service for George will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 15, 2012, at the Christian Church of Ashland at the corner of 2nd and B St. in Ashland, OR.

George will always be remembered by those who knew and loved him as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Asante Hospice, 2960 Doctors Park Drive, Medford, OR 97504 or to the charity of your choice.

Jesse William Shockey

Jessie William (Bill) Shockey was born on May 14, 1940 in Trenton, MO to parents Jud and Coral Shockey.

He attended rural and public schools graduating from Trenton Senior High School in the class of 1958.

After attending Trenton Jr. College he transferred to Central MO State University in Warrensburg, MO. leaving for basic training and the active reserves of the U.S. Army. He returned to the university to earn his B.S. in Business degree in 1964.

Bill was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity.

On August 18, 1963 he married the former Patricia Wallace in Trenton.

They were the proud parents of two sons, Christopher Darin Shockey and Brian Douglas Shockey.

Bill worked in the past in the Insurance, Estate Planning and Funeral Business.

He worked at Litwiller – Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland, Oregon as a Funeral Director and Pre-Need salesman.

Arrangements for his cremation are under the direction of Litwiller – Simonsen Funeral Home.

After four years in Surprise, AZ, Bill and Patricia Shockey returned to Oregon residing presently in Jacksonville, OR.

Being self-employed and semi-retired he had a passion for helping veterans and widows of veterans apply and receive eligible benefits up until his sudden death on Monday, May 21st, 2012 at the Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, OR.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jud and Coral Shockey.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia and two sons, Christopher Darin Shockey of Applegate, OR and Brian Douglas Shockey of Surprise, AZ., a daughter-in-law, Kirsten Shockey of Applegate, OR and five grandchildren, Jakob Shockey of Evergreen College in Olympia, WA, Kelton Shockey of Southern Oregon University in Ashland, OR, Damitri Shockey and Ariana Shockey of Applegate, OR and Jesse Michael Shockey of Surprise, AZ.

Trenton and area survivors include a sister, Barb Hawkins and her husband Roger of Trenton, MO and a brother, Leroy Shockey and his wife Joan of Chillicothe, MO.

He is also survived by an aunt, cousins, nieces and nephews in the area.

Bill enjoyed music and singing special music at churches throughout his lifetime, grudge match golf games during Alumni Weekends between the classes of 1957 and 1959, and horseback trail rides anywhere and anytime.

There is a new tenor voice joining the choir of angels today.

A celebration of his life will be held in the near future in Jacksonville.

Contributions in his memory may be sent to the First Christian Church in Trenton, MO.

He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Maurice A. Glassy

Maurice Albert Glassy, born to Frank and Marguerite Charnot Glassy in Tacoma, Wash., August 10, 1923, passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2012.

He married Nelle Jean Stevenson in 1949 and had 10 children. He served in WWII as a radioman on a B-17 Bomber and was shot down over Poland. He and his fellow crewman were picked up by Russians and spent months traveling back to their outfit in Italy. Later, he was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He graduated from Gonzaga University and spent his career in industrial air pollution control and as a landlord. He was a member of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, Third Order of the Dominicans, and St. Vincent de Paul and volunteered at many organizations.

Maury spent the last few years of his life at Pioneer Village in Jacksonville. He was loyal, gregarious, humorous, intuitive, and adventurous. Maury saw himself as being someone who connected people to each other and he loved to fish and tinker.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nelle; and a son, Peter Jamie. He is survived by his children, Nadja (Mary T.), Jeanine, Marguerite, Joseph, Marilyn, Mary Cecile, Genevieve, John, and Louis; stepdaughter, Judy; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Visitation at Litwiller-Simonson Funeral Home, 1811 Ashland, Thursday, Nov. 8 from 3 to 6 p.m. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10:30 am Friday, Nov. 9 at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, 987 Hillview Drive, Ashland, followed by Mass at 11:00 and a reception at noon. Burial will be at 1:30 pm at Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland.

Loretta Longiotti

The graveside service for Loretta Longiotti will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point, OR. The memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, August 24, 2012, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1974 East McAndrews, Medford, OR, 97504.

Mrs. Longiotti, 89, of Ashland, died Monday, July 16th at an Ashland Adult Foster Care Home.

She was born March 5, 1923 in Farrell, PA the daughter of Marietta and Antonio Sanitate. She was raised in Farrell where she graduated from Farrell High School. On October 2, 1945 in Farrell, PA she married Cordino Longiotti who survives.

After living in Farrell for several years following World War II, Mr. and Mrs. Longiotti moved to San Jose, CA. Loretta worked as a department manager for Macy’s Department Store for several years before working as an office manager with her husband’s business, Corlon Home Improvement.

In 1974 they moved to Ashland and operated the Talent Hardware Store and Mrs. Longiotti worked in the office.

Loretta enjoyed cooking, camping, playing cards and spending time with family. She traveled extensively including in Germany, Italy and India. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Medford.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a son, William (Joy) Longiotti of Talent; a daughter, Karen (Mike) Titus of Ashland; two sisters, Mary Gerba of Brookfield, Ohio and Vee McKowen of Maryland; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made the Youth Programs at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1974 East McAndrews, Medford, OR, 97504.

Rebecca May Dalkenberg

REBECCA MAY DALKENBERG, 96, of Medford, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford, Ore.

Mrs. Dalkenberg was born May 2, 1916 in Brooks, Ore. On September 10, 1960 in Medford, Oregon she married LaVern Herbert Dalkenberg, who preceded her in death on November 3, 2003.

Mrs. Dalkenberg was a member and Past Worthy Matron of Easter Star Alpha #1, for which she was very proud. She and her husband traveled all over the United States and were members of the Good Sam’s Club. She enjoyed fishing, flowers, collecting all sorts of dolls, and was a “sports mom”.

Survivors include her sons Gary Neufeld and Ken Neufeld; sister, Billie Nork; brother, Dan Jones; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Northridge Center, 3737 S. Pacific Highway, Medford, Oregon. Private interment will be in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland, Oregon.

Alice Burnette

ALICE JANE BURNETTE, 96, of Talent, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012 at her residence. She was born August 1, 1915 in Bend, Oregon to Elmer and Jesse (Danforth) Niswonger.

On April 13, 1936 in Medford, Oregon she married Raymond B. Burnette, who preceded her in death in 1998. She retired from Bear Creek Corporation after 40 years of service.

Alice was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and friend. Her large family was her first concern. She helped provide for their welfare with her work and care giving. She gave her love and wisdom to family and friends without looking for rewards.

Alice liked to work with her hands. Painting, sewing quilts, ceramics, writing, reading, stamp collecting and gardening were done to enjoy and share with all.

Campfire Girls were her special love. She was a leader and counselor to many young women for decades. Her community work with Talent Friends of the Library, the Federated Women’s Club, Talent Historical Society, and many others filled many years of time.

Alice loved her Lord and God. Her church, Talent Methodist Church, was a wonderful support group in her last year. Their love and care for Alice helped so much.

She is survived by one son, Robert Burnette; daughters Doreen Feeler, Barbara Derise, and April (Jerry) Denham; ten grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, son Thomas, one granddaughter and one great grandson.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions to a favorite charity of donor’s choice.

Alice will be greatly missed by all her family and friends and the community of Talent.
