Linda Jean Christensen, 51, of Baker City, died July 28, 2004, at her home after a long illness.
At her request, there will be no memorial service.
Linda had lived in Baker City and prior to her illness had worked for several years at Marvin Wood Products. She was born at La Grande on March 13, 1953, to Armia Jean Schooler and LeRoy Shawver. She lived at La Grande most of her childhood. She married Daniel Christensen in Baker City in November 2003.
Survivors include her husband; her mother; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert Lee and Mildred Shawver; a nephew and a niece of Ellecott, Md.; her daughter, Angela Pursfull; granddaughters, Tisha Kimberly and Chelsea, all of La Grande; and many other relatives and friends.
Jay Fullerton Jr.
Jay Fullerton Jr., 83, died Nov. 29, 2004 at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise due to injuries sustained after a fall.
A graveside inurnment was today at Mount Hope Cemetery. Truscott Irby of the American Legion officiated. There was a reception afterward at the family's home.
Jay was born on Oct. 11, 1921, at Springbrook to Jay and Mae Fullerton. In his early years, Jay attended school at Newberg and Pendleton. He went to work laying asphalt airstrips in Baker City, where he met his wife of 62 beautiful years, Louise McCarthy. Louise and Jay were married July 6, 1942, in Vancouver, Wash.
During World War II, Jay served in the U.S. Coast Guard stationed at Bonneville and Longview guarding the loading of bombs on to ships. After his honorable discharge from the Coast Guard in October 1945, Jay began a 45-year career as a painting contractor and interior decorator with his father-in-law Walter L. Perry.
Jay had the pleasure of working in Baker County with the best general contractors. They came to be his lifetime friends: Sid and Nancy Johnson, Cliff and Bea Welter, Don and Jake at Artcraft and Dickie Hindman.
Jay was preceded in death by his son Ronald J. Fullerton, who died in 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Louise of Baker City; daughter, Marsha Corley of Dallas, Texas; son, Dennis and Merry Fullerton of Caldwell, Idaho; grandchildren, Shannon Corley of Dallas, Texas, Rhonda Fullerton of Meridian, Idaho, and her mother, Colleen Fullerton of Baker City; Jason Fullerton and Chelsea Fullerton, both of Caldwell, Idaho; and one great-grandchild, Amerah Corley of Dallas, Texas.

‘Vern' Cathey
Lawrence "Vern" Cathey, 75, of La Grande, died Nov. 27, 2004, at his home.
A celebration of life will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at the New Life Center in La Grande (behind Shop 'n Kart). Burial will be at the Summerville Cemetery. Daniels Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
Vern was born on Sept. 26, 1929, to Hugh and Laura Ray Cathey at Spearfish, S.D. He moved to Baker City where he joined the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was in the Signal Corps when he was discharged. He joined Labor Union No. 682 where he worked as a cement finisher in building and road construction. He laid pipe and was foreman at Wild Dish Construction and Salem Sand and Gravel. He married Maxine Kimball on Aug. 6, 1955.
Survivors include his mother, Laura Cathey of Ontario; his two sons and their spouses, Larry and Kathleen Cathey and Calvin and Kerry Cathey, all of La Grande; two sisters and their spouses, Verla and Bill Boles of Baker City and Sharon and Harley Derrick of Ontario, and five grandchildren.

Vernon Morris
Vernon Antone Morris, 85, a former Baker City resident, died Nov. 25, 2004, in Prineville.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Coles Funeral Home. Military honors will be performed by Baker City AMVETS, No. 1874. Visitations will be from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. Private interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Morris was born in 1919 to Sam and Oradelia Chmidling Morris in Baker City. Vernon was reared on his grandfather Chmidling's farm north of Baker City. He was a member of a family of six brothers and three sisters. He attended Baker City schools, graduating from Baker High School in 1939.
Vernon served in the Pacific region in World War II, the Philippines, New Guinea and Luzon. His brothers served in the European Theater including Africa, Sicily, France, Germany and Austria.
After the war, Vernon worked for Clyde Ward, Bar C Bar Ranch, and the Sullivan Ranch at Hereford.
Due to poor health he had been living at Sandy's Care Home in Baker City and later at Prineville.
Survivors include his sister, Alice Bacon, and her husband, Leonard, of Baker City; brother, Bill Morris, and his wife, Laura, of Davis, Calif.; one nephew, three nieces, three great-nephews and one great-niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Ida Tippett
Ida "Joyce" Tippett, 76, of Wallowa, a former North Powder resident, died Nov. 12, 2004, at La Grande.
Her memorial service was Nov. 20 at Bollman Funeral Home in Enterprise. Burial was in the Enterprise Cemetery.
Joyce was born May 20, 1928, in La Grande to Edward Alvin Davis and Hattie Meyers Davis of North Powder. She grew up in North Powder, where her grandparents, John Samuel and Susan Dealy Davis, homesteaded. She attended North Powder schools and was a graduate of Powder Valley High School.
She married William S. "Bill" Tippett on Sept. 6, 1946, at Wallowa Christian Church. Joyce worked as a bank teller for several years before retiring. She was a member of E.S.A. Gamma Theta Sorority and Enterprise Ladies Elks.
She enjoyed volunteering at Wallowa Senior Center and Food Bank, bowling, working in her yard and spending time with her family.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband in August 2001; and a sister, Susie Cecilia Gorham, who died in May 2003.
Survivors include her daughters, Cathy A. Kiesecker and her husband, Garold, of La Grande and Sheri Ominski and her husband, Mitchell, of Portland; five grandchildren, Martina Kay Struck, Darrin Lee Kiesecker, Richard Lee Engeldorf, Rachana Lai and Katina Marie; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth V. Davis and his wife, Mary, of Wallowa and Clayton A. Davis of Seattle; sister, Jackie April, of La Grande; and sister-in-law, Joanne Tippett of Clackamas.
Helen Brown
Helen Louise Brown, 86, of La Grande, a former Baker City resident, died Oct. 29, 2004, at a La Grande care center.
Her graveside service was Nov. 1 at the Island City Cemetery. Mark Schlessman of the First Christian Church in La Grande officiated. Loveland Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Brown was born on Feb. 11, 1918, to Jack W. and Mabel Clara Vest Emerson at Wallowa. She was the descendant of early Wallowa County pioneers, William Harvey Vest and Ellen Mollissia Cole.
She attended elementary school in Baker City for a year and graduated from La Grande High School with the Class of 1936. She married Harold Edgar Brown on May 26, 1936, at Walla Walla.
She worked in the lab at St. Joseph Hospital and at the La Grande Clinic from 1960 to 1977 when she retired.
She moved to Alaska to spend time with her sister for a short time where she worked at a dress shop. She went to Las Vegas and Milton-Freewater before returning to La Grande.
She enjoyed crocheting afghans and spending time with her family.
Survivors include a son, Robert H. Brown of Echo; grandchildren, Robert Harold Brown and Barbara Jean Nagy; great-grandchildren, James Arthur Goleman, Carl Mathew Goleman and Lee Harold Counsel; three great-great-grandchildren; granddaughter-in-law and caretaker, Pamela Counsel; cousins, Velma Hescock, Clarence Trump, William Trump and Gerald Trump and other relatives.
Her husband died on July 11, 1977. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret V. Bolton and Edith Martin; and a brother-in-law, Carrol R. Bolton.
Carl Davis
Carl M. Davis, 89, a longtime Baker City resident and businessman, died Nov. 27, 2004, at the Wallowa Valley Care Center in Enterprise.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Baker City Church of the Nazarene at Cedar Street and Hughes Lane. Pastor Ralph Holcomb and Jack Pittman will officiate. There will be an honorary military graveside burial at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends are invited to join the family for a reception afterward at the Nazarene Church.
Visitations will be until 8 o'clock tonight at Gray's West & Co., 1500 Dewey Ave.
Mr. Davis was born on Oct. 13, 1915, at Vale to Melville Evan and Mary Jessie Dee Davis. He was raised in the Rock Creek area and completed all 12 grades at Muddy Creek School west of Haines. He graduated in 1933.
He completed 14 months of business and bookkeeping studies at Baker Business college in 1935 and 1936. He completed three correspondence courses with the American Institute of Banking over the next two years.
In 1937, he met Illa Lorraine Hunt. They were married at Weiser, Idaho, on May 21, 1938. They had four children: Ronald, Marilyn, Richard an Michael.
Mr. Davis went to work for Baker State Bank in 1939 as an assistant teller. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in July of 1942 and served his country in and around Ketchikan, Alaska, until his honorable discharge in September 1945 as a radioman 1st class.
After his discharge, he returned to continue his banking career in loan processing and insurance a the Baker State Bank. As he worked his way up at Baker State Bank, he again was called to active duty for a short time in 1950.
He returned to continue at the bank until he was offered a position at Pioneer Federal Savings in 1953. He spent most of the next 30 years of his life leading that company to become the premier mortgage lending institution in Eastern Oregon with offices in several communities and several dozen employees.
Pioneer Federal Savings grew to more than $350 million in assets by the time of his retirement.
During his banking career, he was state Jaycee of the Year in 1948, served several years on the Baker County Fair Board, was chairman of Gov. Mark Hatfield's campaign twice, served several years on the Executive Committee of the Oregon Savings and Loan League and as its president in 1958. He served several terms on the Legislative Committee of the U.S. Savings and Loan League in Washington, D.C., and served as chairman of the St. Elizabeth Hospital Fund Drive.
He was also a member of the Elks Lodge and was active in the early organization of the Baker County Historical Society and active in and a past president of the Baker County Chamber of Commerce.
After his retirement in 1980, he and his wife, Illa, were able to spend summers in Baker City and winters in their place in Yuma, Ariz. He continued to enjoy his love for the outdoors of Eastern Oregon with his family and especially with his grandchildren.
He and Illa spent the last few years in Joseph being loved and cared for by their daughter, Marilyn Suarez, and her husband, Tom.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Illa L. Davis of Enterprise; son, Ronald E. Davis, and his fiancee, Joyce McDannel, of Baker City, and grandson, Layne P. Davis, and wife, Paris, of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter, Marilyn E. Suarez, and her husband, Tom, of Joseph, and grandson, Cuyler Lighthall II and his wife, Kate, of Redmond, Calif., and great-grandchildren, Tate and Parker Jane; son, Richard Davis and his wife, Melissa of Wilsonville, and grandsons, Nick and Ryan; son, Michael Davis, and his wife, Jan of Wilsonville and grandsons, Justin, Aaron and granddaughter, Emma; sister, Valeta Lamment of Portland and nieces, Marden Anderson and Laurene Peterson, and nephew, John Lamment Jr.; sister, Vina Schultz, and her husband, Elmer, of Portland, and niece, Flora Wade; niece, Mary Ritch of Baker City; niece, Sharon Bednarz and Arlene Persons of California; sisters-in-law, Doris Hunt of Baker City and Alene Hunt of Pendleton; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jessie Coleman; his father, Melville Evan Davis; and sisters, Eleanor Snyder and Lula Rich.

Francis Davis
Francis Ray Davis, 85, of Spray, died Oct 21, 2004, at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Prineville.
A memorial service and potluck luncheon will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Spray Grange Hall.
Mr. Davis was born on Feb. 15, 1919, at Redmond to Jess and Rene Robbins Davis. The family later moved to Winlock where he grew up. He married Marjorie Sams of Winlock on April 15, 1939.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Davis worked as a timber faller, retiring at the age of 73. When he was 75, he became a licensed well driller. He worked at that profession for the next 10 years.
His family was said to be most important in his life and it was said that he had a heart as big as himself. He touched everyone he met and never met a stranger. Mr. Davis was an avid hunter who enjoyed camping and being in the outdoors.
Mr. and Mrs. Davis had been married 65 years. They had lived at Winlock until June of this year when they moved to Spray.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, of Spray; children, Jean Guerrero of Portland, Wayne Davis and his wife, Judy, of Heppner, Shawn Davis and his wife, Linda, of Spray, Tyson Davis, serving in the military, and special daughter, Diane Peterson of Spray; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sons, Gaylord and Harold Davis.

Jan Knox
Janice S. "Jan" Knox, 60, of Haines, died Nov. 22, 2004, at her home.
Her funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. in Baker City. Mr. Tim Knox will officiate. Vault interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitations will be today until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jan was born June 7, 1944, in Baker City to Charles and Nada (Hickerson) Samson. She received her education in Baker City and lived in Bend for a time. She worked as a cook on a large ranch in Antelope. She also tended bar. She returned to Baker City and met Robert Knox. They were married May 14, 1976. She has since been a homemaker.
Jan loved crafts of all kinds and she put a lot of her loving heart into making crocheted baby blankets for her grandchildren. She also made a lot of afghans for family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, and canning the fruits and vegetables she grew. Her planting and growing of her flowers and roses were an absolute joy to her, then watching the hummingbirds come to dine. She loved to fish, and when her husband Bob and she lived in Port Angeles, Wash., the salmon were put on the run because she always caught the biggest ones. Being in the mountains camping, hunting, and fishing with family and friends were such a joy to her. People who knew her always would say she had a loving and forgiving heart.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Knox; children, Jessie and Ryan Miller, Buffy and Rod Taylor, Dawn and Kevin Speck, Chuck Samuelson and Jodi Samuelson; stepchildren, Rebecca and Scott Guthrie, Robert and Clara Knox and Curt and Kathy Knox; sister and brother-in-law, Anita and Howard Coen; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a half-brother, Wayne Peters; a daughter, Sunday Gouge; and a step-son, Steve Knox.

George Leep
George Ellis Leep, 85, a longtime Baker City resident, died Nov. 21, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.
His funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at at Coles Funeral Home. Jack Pittman will officiate.
Mr. Leep was born on Aug. 17, 1919, at Halfway, Oregon. He was a son of Willis Robert and Janie Elizabeth Haines Leep.
He graduated from Halfway High School. He went to work at the Cornucopia Mines and then worked for Boeing Aircraft from August 1941 until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in March of 1942. He was honorably discharged in November 1945.
He proudly served his country as an Air Guard on a Merchant Marine Ship. After his discharge, the family returned to Baker City where he worked with his uncle, Mark Ellis, at Phillips Petroleum for 28 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Baker Elks Lodge, No. 338, where he served as exalted ruler; the American Legion; and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Leep of Baker City; children, Elizabeth Erwin, and her husband, David, of Oregon City, Marydee Rea and her husband, Lloyd, of Baker City, and Margy Heilman and her husband, Eric, of Milwaukie; grandchildren, Georgene Rea, Marianne Stone and her husband, Daniel, Francine Rea, Lloyd Rea III, Jimmy Heilman and Jeffery Heilman; three great-grandsons, Griffin and Gavin Stone and Aiden Ellis Heilman; and one niece and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Leonard Ruben Leep.
