Allene J. Culbertson Hunt, 81, a former Baker City resident, died Sept. 11, 2005, at Walla Walla, Wash.
Burial was Friday at Mount Hope Cemetery. Her memorial service was Sept. 24 at the First Christian Church in Pendleton. Pastor Marc Mullins officiated.
Allene was born March 15, 1924, at Baker City to Percy and Lelia Culbertson.
She was a 1942 Baker High School graduate. As a pianist, she participated in several dance orchestras during her years in Baker City.
During World War II, Allene joined the Cadet Nurses Corps. She took her training in Tacoma, Wash.
She married Darold Hunt on Jan. 12, 1946. They had three sons, Dennis, Duane and Rod. The Hunts moved to Pendleton in 1969.
Mrs. Hunt retired as a bookkeeper for Umatilla County.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and was active in church affairs.
She was a member of Elks Lodge and a volunteer for the Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon Hall of Fame.
Survivors include sons, Dennis Hunt, and his wife, Colleen, of Pendleton, and Rodney and his wife, Susie, of San Diego; a brother, Ron Culbertson of Myrtle Creek; sister, Frances Simmons of Astoria; and six grandchildren; Kelly, Lindsey, Casey, Megan, Cory and Tyler Hunt.

Roger Wellman
Roger L. Wellman, 74, of Baker City, died Sept. 10, 2005, at Providence Medical Center in Portland.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. Pastor Bill Cox of the McEwen Bible Fellowship will officiate. Private inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Roger was born on Nov. 24, 1930, at Baker City to Walter and Olive Lindley Wellman. He was raised and educated at Baker City. He spent most of his life in Baker County, except for 20 years in Portland when he was employed by the Chevron Corp. He was a member of Baker Elks Lodge, No. 338.
Survivors include his children, Sherry Aliff and her husband, Jerry, of Vancouver, Wash., Rena Morrow and her husband, Mike, of Haines, Mike Wellman and his wife, Brenda, of Newberg, and Eva Jarvis and her husband, Lee, of Kalispell, Mont.; sister and brother-in-law, Neva and John Jaquysh of Sand Point, Idaho; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Marvin, who was killed in World War II.

Naoma Dale
Naoma Jean Johnson Dale, 69, a former Baker City resident, died Sept. 15, 2005, at Bremerton, Wash.
Her husband, Roger Dale, died in 2000. She enjoyed sewing and gardening and she loved to cook.
Survivors include her daughter, Kaye Ginter of Washington; sons, Ed Hasbrook of Montana and Russell Hasbrook of North Carolina; four sisters, Francis Parker, Raye Bacus, Virginia Humphress and Gerry Herbes, all of Baker City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wayne Bonham
Wayne F. Bonham, 62, a former Baker City resident, died Sept. 17, 2005, at St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla, Wash.
His graveside funeral was at 3 p.m. today at the Weston Cemetery.
Wayne was born on Feb. 16, 1943, at Baker City to Martin Ford and Mary Ann Bonham. He attended local schools and graduated from Baker High School. Later he attended Blue Mountain Community College at Pendleton for two years.
He married Linda Eichner and they lived in Pendleton. Wayne worked at various occupations while in Pendleton including the Pendleton Woolen Mills for several years.
They moved to Weston and he worked for Lewis IGA and for the past several years he had worked for Suzi's Handy Mart at Weston. The Bonhams were divorced.
Wayne enjoyed the outdoors, bird watching, the mountains, fishing and photography and he had a special interest in cats.
Survivors include his daughters, Tricia Givens of Weston and Christine Bonham of Portland; a son, John Bonham of Cle Elum, Wash.; a sister, Cheryl Bonham of Weston; and his grandson, Keifer Givens.

Donna Holland
Donna M. Holland, 76, of Milwaukie, a former Baker City resident, died Sept. 16, 2005.
There was a private service.
Mrs. Holland was born on Aug. 8, 1929, at Grand Forks, N.D. She had lived in the Portland Metro area since 1980. Prior to that she lived with her family in Baker City.
She was a homemaker and a legal secretary. She and her husband, John Holland, were married in 1952. He died in 1978.
Survivors include her children, Susan LaFranchise and Michael Holland; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey Hospice. Arrangements were under the direction of Portland Memorial Funeral Home.
David Russell
David Alan Russell, 61, a former Baker City resident, died Aug. 26, 2005, at his mother's home in Vale after a sudden illness.
There will be no funeral. Disposition was by cremation. His cremains will be scattered at the same site as those of his brother, Fuller.
Dave was born on Jan. 13, 1944, at Randleman, N.C., to Paul T. and Verneta Mae Russell. He grew up in North Carolina, Idaho and Oregon.
After graduating from high school at Portland, he joined the U.S. Navy Seabees, serving on Guam and Okinawa. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for several years. He then went to work for the chain saw division of Omark Corp.
Dave moved to Baker City in 1970 to be closer to his family. He was employed at Ellingson Timber Co., Plywood Division, until it closed. He then worked at the Kinzua Corp. Plywood mill at Heppner for several years until it too closed.
Dave then returned to Baker County and worked for several mining companies with his brother, Fuller W. Russell, until Fuller became ill. He died in 1998.
After that, Dave moved to Vale to assist in the care of his mother at her home.
Survivors include his mother, V. Mae Bjoin of Vale; a brother, William Z. Davis of Yamhill; a sister, Mary Lou Russell of Eagle Creek; a brother, Paul T. Russell of Baker City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul T. Russell; and his brother, Fuller W. Russell.
Erma Heard
Erma June Heard, 95, a longtime resident of the Haines area, died at her home on Sept. 16, 2005.
Her graveside service was at 2 p.m. today at the Haines Cemetery. Sally Wiens of the Haines United Methodist Church officiated. There was a luncheon and fellowship afterward at the Methodist Church Annex.
Erma was born on Jan. 12, 1910, at Haines to George H. and Mary Elizabeth Ashwood Taylor. She lived most of her life on the same farm where she was raised.
She graduated from Muddy Creek High School and attended her first year of teachers college at Monmouth. When the Eastern Oregon Normal School (now Eastern Oregon University) was built, she was a member of its first graduating class.
She taught school at Manning Basin until she married. married teachers were not allowed in that district.
She married Theodore R. Heard on Oct. 11, 1930, at Vale. Erma and Ted bought her parents' farm where they lived and raised their children.
They had been married nearly 64 years when Ted died in 1994. Together they shared a rich life of hard work, love and companionship from the 1930s into the 1990s.
For a number of years she was a member of the Mutual Improvement Club and the Eastern Oregon Museum, where she remained an honorary member. She helped at the Haines Library and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
Erma also helped in the publishing of the Baker County History Book and was happy to be named Queen of the Fourth of July Celebration at Haines in 1995.
She grew up attending the Haines Methodist Episcopal Church and was on the cradle roll in 1910. She went on to teach Sunday School at what is now the Haines United Methodist Church where she was a member.
She loved her grandchildren and spent many wonderful times with them. They were her greatest joy.
Survivors include two daughters, Arvilla Corey of Deming, Wash., and Cheryl Craig and her husband, Lowell, of Haines; five grandchildren, Lonna, and her husband, Frank Hocker, of Olympia, Wash., Frank and his wife, Tami Corey, of Bellingham, Wash., Bryce and his wife, Jennifer Corey, of Seattle, Wash., Julie and her husband, Tim Kerns, of Haines, and Don Massey of Baker City; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; three stepgrandchildren, Kendall Craig of Pendleton, Kelly Craig of Shelton, Wash., and Kristi Ellis of Milwaukie; eight stepgreat- grandchildren; and nine stepgreat- great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted.

Suzanne Heriza
Suzanne Mary Heriza, 43, a longtime resident of New York City who was born and raised at Denver, died Sept. 14, 2005, after a long fight with breast cancer at her family home in Denver surrounded by friends and family.
There will be a celebration of her life at 4 p.m. Friday in Washington Park.
She was born on May 3, 1962.
Survivors include her mother, Sharon Heriza; her father, Bob Heriza, and his wife, Judy; brothers, Brian and his wife, Kimberly, Jeff and his wife, Jacqueline, and Kristin and Robert, and Chris and his wife, Stacy; grandmother, Mary Heriza; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Metro Denver or Gilda's Club in New York City.
Cynthia Nice
Cynthia Faye Nice, 54, died Sept. 14, 2005, at St. Mary Hospital in Walla Walla, Wash., following a long illness.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Gray's West & Company Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave. Pastor Lennie Spooner of the First Church of the Nazarene will officiate.
Friends are invited to join the family following the service for a reception at Gray's West.
Cynthia was born on Sept. 24, 1950, in Franklin, La., to Laura and Clifford Badeaux. She grew up and attended school in Franklin.
In 1978, Cynthia married Donald Nice of North Powder. She and Donald made their home for many years on Wolf Creek.
Cynthia was a homemaker. She enjoyed making beautiful handcrafted decorations that she generously shared with friends and family.
Survivors include her husband Donald of Baker City; daughter, Shantel Pellerin; son, Jason Pellerin and his wife, Nancy; granddaughter, Xenia; sister, Sandra Davis and her husband, Graylen; brother, Clifford Badeaux Jr., all of Louisiana, and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Emma Bodewig
Emma V. Bodewig, 95, a resident of Baker City, died Sept. 15, 2005, at her home.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bodewig will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. Sister Kay Marie Duncan will officiate. Vault interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitations will be held Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Emma was born in Perry to Charles and Nora Coalwell on July 14, 1910. She resided most of her life in Baker City. A widow since 1972, Emma was a 50-year member of VFW Auxiliary Post 3048, a charter member of AMVETS 1874, and a 41-year member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She worked hard all her life to help support her family as a housekeeper for many local families and at the Baker Hotel in the 1940s. Emma is well known for her work at the Baker City Golf Club, where she planned and prepared meals for 27 years. She was also employed at the Oregon Lumber Company and worked on the preparation of many banquets for the Masonic Lodge and VFW.
Emma enjoyed card parties, bingo, yard sales, traveling, family reunions, bus trips, yard work and holiday decorating. She stayed busy and active right to the end of her life and was a true example of a dedicated mother, grandmother and friend.
She was dearly loved and will be missed by the family and friends she leaves behind.
Survivors include daughters, Twila and Katherine; daughter-in-law, Vivian; son-in-law, Loren; stepchildren, Chris, Richard, Marvin, Marlyn and Mary Jo, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husbands Henry Rockenbrant and Jake Bodewig, sisters Aileen Swinyer and Alice Spencer and brothers Frank and Ronald Coalwell, as well as her son Robert and one great-grandson, Larry.

Gerald Brown
Gerald Wilbur Brown, 88, of Baker City, died Sept. 12, 2005, at Settlers Park.
At his request, cremation was held with private interment in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Brown was born Nov. 23, 1916, in Vanada City, Mont. He was raised in Duluth, Minn., and received his education there. Mr. Brown married Ann Diebekis on Nov. 7, 1952, in Cloquet, Minn. The family came to Baker City in 1955 from Canyon City.
He enjoyed playing the accordion, harmonica and guitar. He was a member of Kingdom Hall, Jehovah's Witness.
He is survived by daughters Grace Schramm of Duluth, Minn. and Norma Axelson of Minnesota; stepsons, Frank, James, Gerald and Dan Trader; stepdaughter, Luci Myers-Sohler; 25 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Syneva Farliegh and Ruth Brown and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ann, three brothers and one sister.
