Mary Lorane Stull, 80, The Dalles, died Saturday, April 30, 2005, at her home.
There will a celebration of life gathering from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at The Dalles Eagles Lodge, Seventh and Walnut streets.
She was born on May 17, 1924, at Baker City to Harvey and Edith Bryson Spivey. She married Ross G. Stull on Feb. 19, 1947. They lived in Oregon, Washington and Montana before settling into Fairbanks, Alaska, where they lived for 15 years.
Active in her community, she took part in the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Loyal Order of Moose, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, holding offices in each. She ran a bingo supply business for several years before retiring and moving to The Dalles in 1984 to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
She enjoyed working in her yard and flower beds, playing bingo and pinochle, knitting and crocheting, and making her annual birthday trip to Reno to celebrate with her daughters.
Survivors include her husband, Ross of The Dalles; her daughters and their families, Anne and Ken Gronwald of Portland, Ellen and Bud Lord of Goldendale, Wash., and Jessie and Leo Kochis of The Dalles; grandchildren and their spouses, Karla and Carl Perry of Vancouver, Wash., Cindy and Jerry Eder of Elko, Nev., Jim and Kim Jordan of Seaside, Gregg Murphy of Portland, Michael and Liz Murphy of Azusa, Calif., Mark Lord and Mary Ellen Lord of Goldendale, Wash., Lee and Becky Kochis and Chris Kochis of The Dalles; 12 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Eddie Jordan; her great-grandson, Carl Thomas Dunn; and her great-great-granddaughter, Victoria Lynn Gassner.

Larry Pratt
Larry Arnold Pratt, 67, of Prairie City, who was raised in North Powder, died April 28, 2005, after a long illness.
His graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Haines Cemetery. There will be a reception dinner afterward at the First Baptist Church in Haines, 714 Cole. Visitations will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grays West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1937, to Louis and Edythe Pratt and was raised on the North Powder River, and attended North Powder School. He was a 1956 graduate of Powder Valley High School.
He was very popular in school and played all sports. He especially liked basketball and football.
He was a very social and friendly person, willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed. He was a very talented man who could fix anything. A lot of ranchers were upset when he couldn't shear sheep anymore, because he was so good at it.
He was very proud of his kids and grandkids and loved them very much. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his mother, Edythe; his sister, Wanda, and her husband, George "Danny" Gover; his friend and soul mate for 20 years, Clara Lemley; mothers of his children, Zona Pratt and Freda Wallace; his children, Jim, and his wife, Connie, Ray and his wife, Julie, Curt and his wife, Judy, Scott and his wife, Kathy, Shawn and his wife, Sandra, Dawn and her husband, Mike, and Arnie and his wife, Angie; eight stepchildren, 42 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, and one stepgreat-grandchild; three nieces, Jeanie Gover, Twila Stenvik and her husband, Jon, and their two boys, and Jody Ericksson, her husband, Aaron, and their son; and his cousins, Kenneth and Judy McGowen, Marjorie Gress, John Pembrook; and the Homer Pierce family.
Preceding him in death was his father, Louis Pratt; a stepdaughter and a stepgrandchild.

‘Gerry' Graven
Geraldine "Gerry" Graven, 85, a longtime Richland resident, died April 26, 2005, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Eugene.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral, First and Church streets. Father Rob Irwin of St. Francis Catholic Church will officiate. Vault interment will be at the Eagle Valley Cemetery in Richland. There will be a reception afterward at the Eagle Valley Grange in Richland.
Gerry was born on May 30, 1919, at Pendleton. She married Herbert Betsinger in 1938. She married Walter Graven on Jan. 22, 1944.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, who died in 1988; her son, Darrel Betsinger, in 1992; her son, Terry Graven, in 2005; and her twin sister, Grace Dixon, in 1987.
Survivors include her daughters, Marcia Dima of Baker City and Gloria Graven of Springfield.

Dorothea Mitchell
Dorothea Mae Holman Lewis Mitchell, 87, of Nyssa, a former Baker City resident, died April 25, 2005, at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nyssa. Visitations will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel in Ontario. Visitations will continue at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Relief Society room at the church. Burial will be at the Hilltop Cemetery in Nyssa.
Dorothea was born on May 19, 1917, at Baker City to Harriett Odessa Carter and James Frederick Holman. She graduated from Baker High School and later married Lloyd Wells Lewis in the LDS Salt Lake Temple in 1937.
Dorothea and Lloyd had eight children, 51 grandchildren, 106 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many more to come. Lloyd died in a tragic accident in 1961, leaving Dorothea with six of their young children remaining at home.
Notwithstanding her circumstances, Dorothea remained positive and pointed her family forward. She later married Tharvel "Tom" Mitchell with whom she enjoyed the last 43 years of her life.
Dorothea had a zest for life and a love for people. She loved to visit with friends and family. Her children were her pride and joy and they cherished her loving counsel and wisdom. Dorothea had a unique ability to relate to children.
She had a private kindergarten in Nyssa for 29 years, where she used music and a desire to build each child's self-esteem to begin the educational experience of multiple generations of students.
She also taught piano for 30 years. Music was an important part of everything she did. She sang in trios, and accompanied many singing groups. She also led Stake Youth Choir and Ward choirs for many years.
Dorothea loved the Lord and taught her children and grandchildren to do so as well. She was the Nyssa LDS Stake Primary President for five years. In her later years, she and Tom served as tour guides at the Boise Temple. They also served an LDS mission at Charlotte, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; her grandchildren, Kelly Lewis, Stephen Lewis and Aaron Lewis; a great-grandson, Keller Lewis; and her brothers, Carl Holman, Louie Holman, Bob Holman, Sonny Holman and David Holman.
Survivors include her husband, Tharvel "Tom" Mitchell; her children, Janice and Don Bowers, Douglas and Delores Lewis, Richard and Carol Lewis, Virginia and Bill Mannewitz, Marilyn and Kal Farr, Craig and Harriett Lewis, Roderick and Charlotte Lewis and Lori and Jim Nelson; stepchildren, Karen and Dwight Cluff, Ron and Linda Mitchell, Tony and Sandy Mitchell, Cheryl and Bob Weaver, and Steve and Michelle Mitchell; her sister, Marie Wilson; and brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Lois Holman.
‘Lenny' Rasmussen
Lynetta Ann "Lenny" Rasmussen, 53, a longtime Baker City resident, died April 26, 2005, at her home surrounded by her loving family after battling lung disease for more than a decade.
Her memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Gray's West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave. Father Rob Irwin of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral will officiate. There will be a reception afterward at the Eagles Lodge, 2935 H St.
Lynetta Ann Garrett was born on Nov. 1, 1951, at Wartburg, Tenn., to Harlin and Mayme Garrett. The family moved to Baker City when Lenny was an infant.
She grew up in Baker City and attended Baker High School. After graduating, Lenny moved to Corvallis to attend Phagan's Beauty School.
During this time she met and married Larry Gordon Mack. The marriage ended tragically, leaving Lenny widowed and carrying her first child, Heather.
She returned to Baker City where she met and married Phillip Howard "Pat" Rasmussen. She had a second child, Jessica.
Lenny worked as a beautician for many years in Baker City. She was an avid golfer and bowler. She was a very social and outgoing person until disabling lung disease prohibited many of her favorite activities.
In her last years, Lenny enjoyed the company of her many friends and family, as well as sewing and gambling. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mayme; her father, Harlin; and brothers, Clifford and Jimmy Garrett.
Survivors include her husband, Phillip "Pat" Rasmussen; mother-in-law, Ruth Rasmussen; daughters, Heather Mack and Jessica Hill; sons-in-law, Brady Hill and Arnold Skeels; grandchildren, Bailey, Hunter, Augustus and Olivia; and brothers and sisters, Ray Garrett and his wife, Mary Anne, Euna Fay McAdams, and her husband, Henry, Bobby Garrett and his wife, Kate, Jack Garrett and his wife, Colleen, John Garrett and his wife, Marge, Thelma Elliott, and her husband, Daniel, Kenneth Garrett and his wife, Arlene, Debi Harris and her husband, Ernie, Amber Garrett and her husband, Doug, and Jean Garrett; and countless nieces, nephews and friends.

‘Jim' McClain
Walter James "Jim" McClain, 70, of Baker City, died April 24, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.
His graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mount Hope Cemetery. There will be a reception afterward at the American Legion Hall, 2129 Second St.
Visitations will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Gray's West & Co., 1500 Dewey Ave.
Jim was born on Sept. 14, 1934, at Los Angeles to Walter Logan and Rosalyn Myers McClain. He served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy. He moved to Baker City in 1982.
Jim was married three times. He married Mable Norreen Williams in July of 1951; Joann Watson on July 13, 1981; and Laura Pogue on Sept. 9, 1995.
He was a longtime member of the Baker City Eagles Lodge and the American Legion. He loved to hunt, fish, camp and go dancing with his friends and family. He was a great husband and father.
Survivors include his wife, Laura McClain of Baker City; three daughters, Jodi McClain of Baker City, Vici Crites and her husband, Ed, of Ontario and Kelli Rodriguez and her husband, Anastacio, of Ontario; stepchildren, Jim and Tina Pogue, John and Sacha Pogue, Jason and Dorothy Pogue, all of Baker City, Dawn and her husband, Billy Willis, and Larry Puckett, of Texas, and Deena and Chad Vandehey of North Bend; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and best friends and family, Ken and Debbie White of Baker City and Mary and Richard Ashley of Estacada.

Fred Hill
Fred W. Hill, 92, of Walla Walla, Wash., a former Baker County Extension agent and longtime supporter of the Pendleton Round-Up, died April 22, 2005, at St. Mary Medical Center at Walla Walla.
His funeral will be May 6 at the Pendleton Episcopal Church. There will be a Celebration of Life party afterward at the Let 'Er Buck Room on the Round-Up Grounds in Pendleton.
Fred was born on Feb. 15, 1913, at Helix to James and Beulah Rankin Hill. The family moved to Pendleton when he was 5.
He was a member of the 1931 Pendleton High School State Champion basketball team. He received a basketball scholarship to Oregon State University at Corvallis and played on the first Oregon State team to win the West Coast Championship.
After graduation, he worked as a county agent in Baker City where he met his wife, Jean Silven. The couple eloped and were married on Christmas Day in 1937.
Within several years they moved back to the family ranch in Juniper Canyon near Helix. They remained there until they built a home in Pendleton in 1968.
Fred was involved in the Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon for many years. He was on the Round-Up Board and was especially fond of his tenure as Indian director. He and Chief Clarence Burke were great friends.
He served as president of the Round-Up in 1960-61. He was honored as grand marshal of the Westward Ho Parade in 1994. He served as the temporary chairman of the Round-Up Hall of Fame Committee in 1979. The committee's dream of a separate museum is under construction.
Fred served as Umatilla County chairman for Tom McCall for Governor. He was appointed to the Oregon Highway Commission in 1967 and served for six years.
Jean Hill died in 1986. Fred married Shirley Gardner Carey and moved to Walla Walla. The couple spent winters in Hawaii for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Beulah; and his brother, James.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Walla Walla; his daughter, Terry of Portland; a son and daughter-in-law, Fritz and Karen of Pendleton; grandsons, Jason, and his wife, Janelle, and Winston; a sister, Isabelle Turner of Portland; and stepchildren, Kim Johnson and Eli Whitney.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Round-Up Hall of Fame.
Ruth Remsen
Ruth Abbott Remsen, 83, of Richland, Wash., a former Richland, Ore., resident, died April 8, 2005, in the company of her daughter.
Her graveside memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at the Island City Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 13, 1921, in Malheur County, near Weiser, Idaho, to Isaiah and Nannie May Wade Abbott. Ruth was one of 11 children.
Ruth and her husband, Mearl F. "Mick" Remsen, were married on July 7, 1942. After the war, the family moved to Lakeview, where they lived for 12 years. They later moved to La Grande, where they lived for 18 years, and then to Richland, Ore., for 14 years.
They also spent some time in Arizona, Nevada and Idaho. After her husband's death in 1999, Ruth moved to Boise, and subsequently to Richland, Wash., to be near her youngest daughter, Geri.
Ruth had a zest for life and loved to garden. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and working with ceramics. She was a longtime supporter of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America and other youth organizations that helped build character in young people.
Survivors include her twin brother, Ralph Abbott, of Richland, Ore.; three children, Micki Vandenburg of Kamiah, Idaho, George Remsen of Lansing, Kan., and Geri Robinson of Richland, Wash.; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mearl F. Remsen; three brothers; and six sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Raymond Clark
Raymond Clark, 70, of John Day, died April 20, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.
At his request, there will be no memorial service.
Raymond Harlo Clark was born on Aug. 6, 1934, at La Grande. He lived in the Harrisburg area on the Oregon Coast until his family moved to Austin. He attended grade school at Austin, and then continued his education at Prairie City, where he graduated from high school in 1952.
After graduation, Ray went to work for a short time with the U.S. Forest Service. He then worked for six months at the Kinzua mill.
In 1954, he married his childhood sweetheart, Janis. They made their first home at Bates where Ray worked for Edward Hines Lumber Co.
When the mill closed its Bates site and moved to John Day, Ray made the move as well. He retired as a millwright from Edward Hines Lumber Co. after 40 years of service.
Ray enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed being out in the hills.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Janis of John Day; a daughter, Cheryl, and her husband, Terry Sherman, of John Day; a son, Roger Clark of Pilot Rock; three grandchildren, Megan Sherman, Colton Clark and Kaylie Clark, all of John Day; and three sisters, Lois Jean King of Payette, Idaho, Betty Lou White of Portland, and Stella McCauley of Mount Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Hazel; and two brothers, Charles "Earl" and David.
