June Annette Breckon, 80, of Elgin, died Aug. 18, 2002, at a La Grande care center.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Elgin Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dedication of the grave will be at the Elgin Cemetery. Visitations will be at the church in Elgin Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
June was born on June 14, 1922, to Charlotta Milissa Springer and William Allen Gutridge in Baker City. She married Clayton Breckon at Seattle, Wash., on Jan. 1, 1942. She moved to Elgin 25 years ago from Eugene.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and for the last 20 years attended the Elgin Ward. She enjoyed making dolls and doll clothes, needlepoint, crocheting, quilt making, reading and she could beat her husband, Clayton, at Scrabble.
Survivors include her husband of Elgin; children, William Breckon of Redmond, Wash., Clayton Breckon of Phoenix, Ariz., Dale and Denise Breckon of Renton, Wash., Michael Breckon of Ogden, Utah, Jerry Breckon of Boise and Mary Lee and Mark Sweet of Nampa, Idaho; a brother, Edgar Gutridge of Baker City; 23 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Alice Esgate, Francis Craig, Margaret West, Delbert Gutridge and June Breckon; and brothers, Wayne Gutridge, Delbert Gutridge and William Gutridge.
The Loveland Funeral Chapel of La Grande is in charge of arrangements.
Wayne Guyer
Wayne R. Guyer, 78, of Weiser, Idaho, died Aug. 15, 2002, at his home.
His funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. MDT at the Weiser High School auditorium. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Weiser.
Visitations are today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. MDT at Thomas Funeral Chapel in Weiser.
Wayne was born Aug. 10, 1924, at Richland to Ralph Paul and Ethel Olive Haskins Guyer. He was raised and educated at Baker City, graduating from Baker High School in 1942.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Amphibious Forces in 1942, and during World War II was deployed to the South Pacific for three years, after which he was honorably discharged.
Wayne married Ruby Cecille Spence on Nov. 30, 1946, at Baker City. The couple lived there, then moved to Weiser in 1948. He operated Richfield gas station on the corner of State Street and East Liberty in Weiser until it burned. After this he went to work for Frito Lay as a salesman, later working for Clark Wholesale. He finished his career working at the Weiser post office, retiring as postmaster. He was very proud to be one of the last presidential-appointed postmasters in the nation. He was appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968.
Wayne was very community-minded. He enjoyed working with the youth and was an Idaho Hunter Safety instructor for many years. He also worked with the children at Park School, helping them with their reading skills.
He was a member and past master of Weiser Lodge No. 23 AF & AM, Commandry, Knights Templar, Royal Arch Masons, Thrice Illustrious Master, KYCH El Korah Shrine, Payette Shrine Club, Loyaute Chapter No. 19 Order of Eastern Star, El Korah Clowns, Kiwanis Club and Elks Lodge No. 1683. On May 10, 2002, Wayne was honored as the Idaho Outstanding Mason of the Year.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting and traveling with his late wife, Cecille.
Wayne is survived by his four sons, Ivan of Weiser, Garth and his wife, Chris, of Minneapolis, Minn., Dean and his wife, Rhonda, of Baker City, and Lynn and his wife, Susan, of Twin Falls, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen James of Tacoma, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Cecille, who died in February 2001; and by a brother, Warren.
The family suggests memorials in his name be made to either the Shriners Hospital for Children, Fairfax Avenue at Virginia Street, Salt Lake City, UT, 84103, or Pathway Hospice, 323 W. Idaho, Ontario, OR 97914.
Roy Sawyer
Roy L. Sawyer, 88, of John Day, and a former Baker City resident, died Aug. 9, 2002, at Valley View Assisted Living Center.
His funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the John Day Seventh-Day Adventist Church, with Pastor Rod Bieber of the church officiating. Interment will be at Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens in Boise.
Roy was born Dec. 27, 1913, at Hailey, Idaho, to Alma C. and Rose V. Sawyer. Roy spent his youth in the small town of Cascade, Idaho. He and his brother, Floyd, worked on the Cascade Dam.
Roy served in the Second World War in the South Pacific. He married Kathyrn Ginley in 1953 in Nevada. After her death in 1970 he married Frieda. He worked for many years for the sawmill in Baker City. He cared for his mother until her death in 1976.
Roy was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church for many years. He will be remembered for his jovial spirit and sweet disposition. The family wishes to thank the caring people at the Valley View Center for their kindness to our uncle in his last years.
Roy is survived by five nephews, Deane Thompson of Fruitland, Idaho, T.S. "Bud, " Dan and David Thompson, all of Boise, and Kerry Wayne Thompson of California; four nieces, Patsy Boutwell of Atlanta, Ga., Mary Swank of Malad City, Idaho, Susan Cunningham of Boise and Dorothy Hanau of Arizona.
Roy was preceded in death by his wives, Kathy and Frieda; his mother and father; two sisters, Helen Thompson Hay and Anne Lorena Sawyer; two brothers, Clyde and Floyd Sawyer; and three nephews, James, Norman and Fred Thompson.

Eloise Jennings
Eloise Jennings, 74, a longtime resident of Union, died Aug. 10, 2002, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.
Her funeral will be Wednesday, at 1 p.m. at the Cove Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pastor Tony Brandon of Baker City Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at the Cove Cemetery. Visitations will be today until 7 p.m. at the Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. in Baker City.
Mrs. Jennings was born May 6, 1928, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to A.C. and Lena M. "Radcliffe" Foster. She attended schools through the 11th grade in Cedaredge, Colo., and graduated from Companion Academy in Loveland, Colo. She attended Union College in Lincoln, Neb. She taught grades 1-8 in Montrose, Colo. On Aug. 22, 1948, she married Glenn Jennings in Cedaredge. In 1965 they moved to Union, where she took care of her home and children.
Mrs. Jennings was very involved in her church and worked as a church clerk in the Cove Seventh-day Adventist. She was an outstanding cook and seamstress, and loved to garden and tend to her flowers. Mrs. Jennings was a friend to many. She and Glenn cared for her mother for many years. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband of almost 54 years, Glenn Jennings of Baker City; her children, Sharon Jeanette Simmons and her husband, Kent, of Bakersfield, Calif., Karen Marlene Hopper and her husband, Richmond, of College Place, Wash., and Daren Lee Jennings and his wife, Steffanie, of Caldwell, Idaho; a brother, Gene N. Foster of Brier, Wash.; grandchildren, Douglas Hopper, Zachary and Brian Simmons, and Christopher, Dannielle and Hardy Jennings; a great-grandson, Devon Jared Hopper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son; a brother, Gerald C. Foster; and a grandson, Jared Allen Hopper.

Patricia Grove
Patricia Anne Grove, 71, of Baker City, died Aug. 8, 2002, at her home.
Her funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Gray's West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave. Pastor Roger Scovil of the Baker City First Christian Church will officiate. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. There will be a reception following at the Christian Church. Visitations will be today until 8 p.m. at Gray's West & Co. Pioneer Chapel.
Pat was born Feb. 23, 1931, at The Dalles to Lloyd W. Davis and Ruth G. (Hazen) Davis. Her family moved to the upper Keating area in 1936, where she began school in a one-room schoolhouse at upper Keating. They later moved to a ranch near Pondosa, where she attended the Blue Mountain School. In 1942 the family moved closer to Pondosa, while her father worked for the lumber mill. Pat remained at Pondosa until her graduation from Union High School in 1950.
After graduation, she moved to Baker City and took work as a telephone switchboard operator. Just a year later, Pat met the love of her life on a blind date. She and Paul Grove were married on Dec. 22, 1951, after a brief courtship of 13 days. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December of 2001.
During the course of their marriage, the couple moved around to several different locations, including Boise for five years, Richland, Wash., for five years, Prosser, Wash., for four years, Hermiston for one year and Bend for a while. They always seemed to return to Baker City between each move, though, and in April 1989 they returned to Baker City for the final time and have lived here ever since.
Patricia was an avid member of the First Christian Church in Baker City. She loved making crafts and tending her garden. She had a knack for growing beautiful things. She was very family- oriented and was an important link in the Grove family. She loved her family and her Lord very much.
Patricia is survived by her husband of 50 years, Paul Grove; three sons, Robert of Corvallis, Russell of Jacksonville, Fla., and Ronald of Baker City; a daughter, Katherine Love of Bend; three sisters, Donna Hack of North Powder, Hallie Spivey of Baker City and Helen Stanley of Irrigon; and a brother, Leon Davis of Bend.

Jaidan Bolander
Jaidan Lexia Bolander of Meridian, Idaho, was born prematurely and died Aug. 9, 2002, at Cadlec Medical Center in Richland, Wash.
Her graveside funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the North Powder Cemetery. Her grandfather, Scott Houst, will officiate. Burial will be at North Powder Cemetery.
Jaidan is survived by her parents, Danielle Jones of Meridian and Jesse Bolander of Meridian; her grandparents, Casey Jones of Meridian, Scott and Sherry Houst of Meridian, Ute Schmidt of Utah and Kelly Bolander of Utah; and her great-grandparents, Wayne and Brenda Schwabrow of Boardman, and Katherine Jones of California.

Erma Price
Erma Cathrine Price, 70, a longtime Baker City resident, died Aug. 1, 2002, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.
Her memorial service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Gray's West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave. Deryl Leggett of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will officiate. Vault interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitations are today until 8 p.m. at Gray's West & Company.
Erma was born Sept. 19, 1931, in Baker to Howard and Goldie Jacobs. She graduated from Baker High School.
She married John F. Price on May 2, 1950. They were married for 30 years. They lived and worked in California until they moved back to Baker in 1969. Erma worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital as the billing manager for several years.
Erma enjoyed arts and crafts, square dancing, and family outings. Her favorite activity was sitting in her backyard and watching the deer that ate the apples from the trees.
She is survived by four children, Raymond of Baker City, Johnny and his wife, Karla, of Baker City, Norman of Layetteville, Ga., and Cathy Robbs and her husband Steve of Boise; two brothers, Dewayne Jacobs and his wife, Patty, of Hermiston, and Dewey Jacobs of Baker City; two sisters, Oddetta Miller and her husband, Frank, of Baker City, and Ethel Rodger and her husband, Vern, of Baker City; and six grandchildren, Jason and Shalene Robbs, and Mandi, Chris, Ray and Kyle Price.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Price; her mother and father; two brothers and one sister.

Christia Bennehoff
Christia Bennehoff, 96, a longtime Baker City resident, died July 30, 2002, at Meadowbrook Place in Baker City.
Upon her request, there will be no services.
Christia was born Feb. 24, 1906, to Walter and Ida Miller. She was raised in Pine and Eagle valleys. She later married Eagle Bennehoff.
Christia is survived by her son, Duane; two daughters, Phyllis Jones and Natalie Tawney; nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.

Ted S. Bloomer Sr.
Ted S. Bloomer Sr., 91, a longtime Durkee rancher, died Aug. 5, 2002, at the Holy Rosary Medical Center in Ontario.
His graveside funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery mausoleum. Jim Rex of the Baker City Christian Science Church will officiate. Disposition will be by mausoleum entombment. A reception will follow at the Durkee Grange.
Visitations will be today until 8 p.m. at Gray's West & Co. Pioneer Chapel, 1500 Dewey Ave.
Mr. Bloomer was born July 16, 1911, at Lebanon, Mo., to William A. and Maude F. (Blackburn) Bloomer. The family moved from Missouri to California when Ted was three years old. He attended schools in Escondido and Orange County, Calif.
During the Depression, when money was scarce and jobs were hard to find, he and some of his friends would hitch rides on the freight trains to various places in the Pacific Northwest, looking for work. Those kids called this "riding the rails." Later Ted and an uncle, Guy Blackburn, traveled in a Model A Ford to fight huge forest fires in Washington.
Ted met Dorothy Ramey at the Montebello Ballroom and they were married in Yuma, Ariz., on Sept. 17, 1936. After their marriage, they lived in El Monte, Calif., where they owned and operated the Woodland Park Stables. Tarzan movies were filmed in the park. In 1944 they sold the stables and purchased a ranch near Anza, Calif., where they raised cattle and grain. In 1959 the Bloomers sold the ranch and moved to Durkee, where they purchased a cattle ranch. Their cattle were moved by rail to the Durkee stockyards. These were the last cattle to unload by rail in Durkee.
Ted and Dorothy were married for 60 years until her death in 1996. He was affectionately known by children and adults as "Papa Ted." He loved to take daily drives to check on the ranch and enjoyed colorful life experiences with people.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Kathy Bloomer and Ted and Diane Bloomer of Durkee; a foster son, Floyd Ramey of California; a brother, Bill Bloomer of Utah; grandchildren and their spouses, Sharry and Dale Smull and Natosha Bloomer of Durkee, Tammy Bloomer, Cindy and Tod Chandler and Travis and Tish Bloomer, all of Baker City, Craig Bloomer of Chicago and Michelle and Dan Richwine of Bend; great-grandchildren, Jared and Jillona Smull of Durkee, Marley and Hollis Robb and Tabor Chandler of Baker City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; an infant daughter; his parents; a sister, Lucille; a brother, Robert, another brother, Arthur, who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II; and a foster son, Steve Ramey.

Delmar Hansell
Delmar A. Hansell, 85, of La Grande, and a former Baker City resident, died Aug. 1, 2002, at his home.
A celebration of his life took place Aug. 2 at Loveland Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Gary Hood of ioneer Park Church officiating.
Mr. Hansell was born Feb. 3, 1917, in Corvallis to William Henry and Lydia L. Bullis Hansell. He attended Corvallis and Newport high schools.
He married Ernestine (Teen) Gardener on Nov. 12, 1947, in Caldwell, Idaho. They lived in Corvallis, then moved to Baker in 1950 and to La Grande in 1956, where Mr. Hansell was a custodian at Greenwood Elementary School. He later transferred to the grounds department. He worked for La Grande School District for 26 years, retiring in 1982. He was known for his love of fishing, the outdoors and his family.
Mr. Hansell is survived by his wife, Ernestine, of La Grande; sons, Mike Hansell of La Grande, Scott and Cheryl Hansell of Corvallis, David Hansell and special friend Mike, of Seattle; daughters and their spouses, Patti Nagy and Ginny Lambert of La Grande, and Betty and Bill Owen of Imbler; sisters, Laverne Martin of King City, Jean Black and Beverly Howard of Corvallis; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Wally; his grandson, Kris; two sisters and one brother.

William ‘Bill' Bigley
William Clive Bigley, 86, of Baker City, died July 30, 2002, at his home.
His memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. Pastor Aaron Oglesbee of the Agape Christian Center in Baker City will officiate.
Mr. Bigley was born Dec. 23, 1915, to Clyde and Fern (Swan) Bigley. He was raised in and received his schooling in West Linn. He moved to Baker City in 1933. On Jan. 21, 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 30, 1945. On Nov. 30, 1946, he married Billie Rae Sievers in La Grande.
He worked as a ranch hand, seaman and lumberman during his life. He was a loving husband and father. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed spending time fishing for crappie on the Snake River.
He is survived by his wife, Billie, of Baker City; a daughter, Bunny Bigley of Hubbard; daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Don Copeland of Stevensville, Mont., and Beth and Dave Yeaton of Baker City; sons and daughters-in-law, Dick and Gladys Bigley of St. Johns, Ore., and Clyde and Georgy Bigley of Pueblo, Colo.; a sister, Marcella Anderson of Juneau, Alaska; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bigley was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one son, Bill Jr.
