Robert Harry Pritchard
PRITCHARD, Robert Harry - 71, returned to his Father in Heaven on January 30, 2001. He passed away peacefully at his home with his eternal companion by his side. He was born on January 25, 1930 in Payette, Idaho to Reva Faye Golden and Richard Thomas Pritchard. He spent his early years in Baker, Oregon and graduated from Baker High School in 1948. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army. He served in Panama and Labrador and was discharged in 1951. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in March of 1954. He then went to Brigham Young University where he met LaVerne Steel. They were married for time and all eternity on August 28, 1956 in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple. He worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Roseburg from 1960 to 1986. He was an active member of the LDS church serving as a bishop and in various other callings. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and children. He is survived by his wife LaVerne of Roseburg, and 7 children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren, and a sister, LaVelle Gorte of Baker, Oregon. Surviving children are Brenda (Ralph) Pruitt and their 5 children, Debra (Karl) Christensen and their 4 children, Dan (Nanci) Pritchard and their 3 children, Linda (Mike) Giar and their 1 child, Carla (Doug) Romrell and their 4 children, Julie (Mike) Matsumoto, Joyce (Gordon) Richins, aunts, Irene Weygandt & Gladys Golden both of Weiser, ID, uncle Lester Golden of Boise, ID. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and an infant son. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Melrose Ward 2001 W. Bertha, Roseburg with Bishop Rodney Grizzard presiding. Interment to follow at the Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Those who wish may pay their respects one-hour prior to service time at the church. We are grateful for the time we have had here on this earth with our husband, father, and grandfather and look forward to the day we meet again to live eternally together. Arrangements have been entrusted to Taylor's Family Mortuary in Winston.

Anna D. Norris
NORRIS, Anna D. - Went to be with our Lord on February 8, 2001. Anna was born on August 1, 1919 in Seymour, Missouri, the daughter of Alfred Allen and Laura Hubbard. She married Walter John Norris on August 12, 1937 in Grove, Oklahoma. Anna dearly loved being with her family, which often included camping and enjoying the outdoors. Anna was a beautiful woman of God and she touched everyones life in a positive way. We know in our hearts, she is in glory with our heavenly Father and we look forward to being reunited with her someday. She is survived and loved dearly by her sons and daughters-in-law, John and Dorothy, Jack and Eileen, daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Chuck Holliman, Chris and Ken Huse, Nita and Ron Cleveland, as well as 21 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, two brothers, Bill and Raymond Hubbard, two sisters, Edith Drake and Rosa Holiday, and by one great-grandson, Christopher Huse. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 12, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. in WILSON'S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Smart of the Winston Foursquare Gospel Center. Private interment will follow in Oak Creek Cemetery. Friends who wish may pay their respects today, Sunday from 3 until 5 p.m. at Chapel of the Roses.

Clara Etta Davis
DAVIS, Clara Etta - Age 84, of Roseburg, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2001 at a local care center. She was born on August 30, 1916 at Ardmore, Oklahoma to Nathan and Sadalia Missouri (Lumpkin) Mangus. On April 1, 1932 in Ardmore, Oklahoma she married William Oscar Davis, who passed away in October 1959. Clara was a remarkable woman, when William passed away they still had seven children at home. Clara proved to be the best mother in the world she finished raising her children by herself. She was an excellent cook. Biscuits and gravy and fresh pineapple pie were her specialty. Clara was also an excellent grandmother. She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed. She came to the Myrtle Creek/Canyonville area in 1947 and moved to Roseburg in 1974. She is survived by; seven sons and four daughters: Dan Davis of Roseburg, Clarence Davis and wife Inez of Sedro Wooley, WA, Dora Etta Stepp and husband Lloyd of Winston, Minnie Hacker and husband Dan of Roseburg, Larry Davis and wife Nila of Tenmile, Leon Davis and wife Lilly of Winston, Willard Davis of Roseburg, Patricia Jenkins and husband Floyd of Roseburg, Walter Davis and wife Rosie of Roseburg, Kenneth Davis of Albany, and Mary Sue Nicholson of Myrtle Creek, 23 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren, a brother Floyd Mangus of Gilliam, Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 16, 2001 at the Church of Christ, 4544 Carnes Road. John Malolepsy will officiate. Interment will follow in Canyonville Masonic Cemetery. Those who wish may pay their respects on Thursday, February 15, 2001 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses Funeral Home who is in care of the services.

Harry Hugh Dunning
DUNNING, Harry Hugh - Age 78, a lifetime Roseburg resident, passed away February 12, 2001, at a local hospital. He was born September 13, 1922, in Roseburg, to Charles and Marion (Davis) Dunning. He was a 1940 graduate of Roseburg High School. After school, he joined the Unite States Navy, serving as a pharmacist mate during World War II. Harry married Adell Anna St. Clair December 30,1944 in Roseburg. He worked as a truck driver for Williams Bakery until his retirement. Harry liked to fish, hunt, play golf, and garden. He enjoyed watching and feeding the deer and hummingbirds that came into his yard. Harry is survived by his wife Adell Dunning and his children; Linda and her husband Bobby Hunsaker of Rosamond, California, Tad Hugh and his wife Dianna Dunning of Lemola Lake, Oregon, Susie and her husband Randy Collins of Roseburg, Oregon, and Tari and her husband Bryon Mayberry of Eugene, Oregon. Grandchildren: Brandon and Travis Husaker, Shawn and Cassandra Dunning, Corey and Amy Collins and Alicia Thornley. Brother Raymond Dunning of Florence, Oregon and sister Doris Garrett of West Lake, Oregon, many nieces and nephews and a lifelong friend Ed Nelson. Harry is preceded in death by his brothers: Charles Dunning, Leo Dunning, and Richard Dunning. Catherine Edwards
EDWARDS, Catherine - Age 91 of Winston, passed away February 11, 2001 at a local foster care home. She was born Catherine Kimball, March 12, 1909 in Little Blue, Missouri, to Millard and Minnie (Rennick) Kimball. She graduated from the University of Florida in 1932 with teaching credentials. Catherine married William B. Yancey June 11, 1932. Together they raised three children. William passed away January 29, 1955. Catherine moved to Douglas County in 1982. She married Ted Edwards, in 1986 in Sylmar, California. Ted passed away in 1990. Catherine worked in real estate until her retirement. She liked to be outdoors, going camping. She liked to travel and especially enjoyed the Alaska Inland Passage trip that she took with her husband Ted. For many years she played the organ and piano in different church's and at home for her own enjoyment. Catherine is survived by her sons, William and wife Shirley Yancey of Shady Cove, Oregon, Charles and wife Marie Yancey of Lake of the Woods, California, and Bob and wife Nancy Yancey of Roseburg, Oregon, stepchildren, Myrna and husband Joe Danchok of Glide, Oregon, Urlen and wife Elaine Edwards of Oakland, Oregon, Cleo and husband John Jones of Corpus Christi, Texas, Claris Williams of Salem, Oregon, Jean and husband Joe Pelland of Oakland, Oregon, Marlys and husband Frank Kellum of Monmouth, Oregon, and Arlys and husband Terry Goddard of Yakima, Washington, 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and her sister Frances Graves of Shady Cove, Oregon. She is preceded in death by her husbands, William Yancey and Ted Edwards, and her brother Arthur Kimball. Laurel LaVerne Everett
EVERETT, Laurel LaVerene (Inman) - Formally of Roseburg, passed away Tuesday, February 10, at her home in Arlington, VA, where she lived with her husband, Robert J. Everett, and their daughter, Rebecca Miriam. Her death followed a year-long battle with cancer. Laurel was born in Roseburg November 23, 1950. She was the youngest daughter of Leroy B. and Iris B. Inman of Roseburg and a descendant of the Belknap and Finn families, early settlers of the upper McKenzie River Valley in Lane County. She attended Roseburg schools. At Joseph Lane Junior high in Roseburg, Laurel was honored with an award bearing her name, the Laurel Inman Scholarship Trophy. It was presented for maintaining a straight 4.0 grade point average during her three years at the school. They trophy is perpetuated and bestowed each year to a student maintaining a corresponding record. She was graduated from Roseburg high School in 1969. She spent six weeks in the summer prior to her senior year on Torreon, Mexico, in a special study program. She enrolled at the University of Oregon with advance placement credits, summer school at the U.O. and at the University of Arizona summer program at Guadalajara, Mexico, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in romance languages in December of 1971. She applied to the Central Intelligence Agency, and was employed at the agency offices at Langley, VA from 1972, until taking early retirement after 25 years. In her work she made extensive use of her knowledge of foreign languages, especially French and Spanish. She and Robert John Everett, a native of new York City, NY were married September 7, 1974 in Alexandria, VA. They had lived since then in Arlington, VA. A daughter, Rebecca Miriam, was born September 1986. Robert is a private investigator. Besides her husband and daughter, Laurel is survived by her parents, Leroy and Iris Inman of Roseburg; two sisters, Janet (Crandall) Shepherd and her husband Dave of Florence, and Kathryn J. Cartmell and husband Gerald of Tualatin, and a brother Laurance B. Inman and wife Maureen of Livermore, CA. She also is survived by five nieces and two nephews, Elizabeth (Crandall) Gaupo of Salem, and Deborah (Crandall) Walsh of Yakima, WA, Jennifer and Kelly Inman of Livermore, CA, and Michael, Karen, and Rian Cartmell of Tualatin, and two grand nephews. Cremation will follow funeral services in Arlington. A memorial service will be conducted in Oregon at a later date to be announced.

Bertha L. "Bert" Mentzer
MENTZER, Bertha L. "Bert" - Age 86 of Roseburg, went home to be with the Lord Feb. 11, 2001. She was born Jan. 29, 1918 in Mena, Arkansas and had been a resident of Roseburg since 1942. She was married to Charles "Chuck" Mentzer in 1948, who preceded her in death in 1991. Bert was a member of the Nazarene Church since 1962. She sang for many years in her Church choir, she also was raised in a musical family, singing with all three of her sisters forming a band, and later putting out a few albums. Besides her glorious love for her church and family she had a love for the game of Golf. Bert started golfing in 1960, she joined a women's Golf Club and won many tournaments and trophies, even in her late 70's Bert always looked like a vogue model, no matter where she went people commented on how lovely she looked! Her golfing buddies said she was their fashionable "Lady Golfer friend". She worked for many years at Ford's Plywood as a lumber grader, then spent a few years in the retail business. She and her husband were active members in the local Elks and Moose Lodge. They also spent much of their retired years traveling together in their RV, making two complete trips around the United States. She gained many loyal friends through the years, she never met a stranger she would not talk to. She will be missed dearly by all. Survivors include: one daughter, Toni Davis; one granddaughter, Kym Cole; one grandson, Marv Davis; three great grandchildren, Ryan Paxson. Jamie Cole, and Kayla Cole; three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20th at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Roses in Roseburg. Pastor Hank Allmand of the Nazarene Church officiating. Those who wish to pay their respects may do so Monday the 19th from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Donations will be given to the American Cancer Society.

Kenneth Warren Pannell
PANNELL, Kenneth Warren - Age 71 of Roseburg, passed away on Monday, February 12, 2001 at a local nursing center. He was born on April 19, 1929 at Orange, California to Clyde M. and Eva Mae (Collins) Pannell. Kenneth was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Army. He worked at a plastics factory in Anaheim, California. Kenneth retired in 1991 after 30 years of employment. Mr. Pannell was a good hearted man who could never tell any one No! Kenneth was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by a brother, Cylde Pannell and his wife Lois of Roseburg, a sister, Cleo Johnson of New Iberra, Louisanna, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lillie Hannah Biggs Schliep
SCHLIEP BIGGS, Lillie Hannah - Of Albany passed away on February 13, 2001. Lillie was born on January 18, 1916 in Chicago, Illinois to Henry William and Lillie Hannah (Jones) Biggs. On April 24, 1937 in Ontarioville, Illinois Lillie married Paul Mathew Schliep. She was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs (near Wrigley Field, thus she was a Club's fan). She graduated from high school in Elgin. She moved to Myrtle Creek, OR the summer of 1945 and to Albany in October of 1995. She co-owned and operated Whitey's Service Station in Myrtle Creek with Meals on Wheels and the Senior Center. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, RSVP, Help One Another, and Anglican Lutheran faith. She collected elephants, was an avid gardener, swam recreationally, and was a "can do" person. Her grandchildren & great-grandchildren were a very special part of her life. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Jean Schliep Lewis of Shedd, Junette Arline Schliep Collins of Tucson, AZ, and Penny Sue Schliep West of Roseburg, seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, son, Edward Luther Schliep on May 28, 1963, brother, Henry William Biggs and sister Marjorie Jean Biggs Mast. Funeral services will be held at Fisher Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2001. Shirley Ann Wilkins
WILKINS, Shirley Ann - 63 of Roseburg, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2001 in a local hospital. She was born July 27, 1937 in Oakland, CA to Vaskey & Harriet (Nilsen) Thompson. Shirley attended grade school & junior high in Vallejo, CA and graduated from high school in Hayward, CA. In her early working career, she was a drive-in waitress and then worked in department store retail sales. On June 9, 1973 in Houston, Texas, Shirley married Bob Wilkins. They lived overseas for a number of years and moved to Roseburg in 1996 from Dubai, United Arab Emerance. Shirley enjoyed many handicrafts and was an accomplished seamstress. She was a member of the Roseburg Moose Lodge. She is survived by her husband, Bob Wilkins of Roseburg; her daughter, Linda D. Wilkins of Dubai, United Arab Emerance; grandchildren, Jamal, Mohommed, Imran, Ahmed, Abdulla & Hala Rasool; and a brother, Ralph E. Thompson of Roseburg. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Gregory D. Hambly. A private gathering of family and friends will be held. Harold R. Black
BLACK, Harold R. - Age 70 of Roseburg, passed away on February 8th, 2001. He was born May 5th, 1930 in Balaton, Minnesota. He has been a resident of Douglas County since 1963. He was in the National Guard from 1948 to 1951. He was also in the Army Infantry from January 1951 to November 1952. Harold worked at the Green Valley Lumber until 1970, then he went on to work at the Hanna Nickle Mine from 1970 until he retired in 1988. He is survived by his sisters, Ethel Rodriguez from Fresno, CA, Lola Wackholtz from West Allis, WI, June Verstrate from Marshall, MN, Inez Licivinko from Lufkin, TX, Evelyn Finseth from Kennersville, NL, Kelley Lox rom Fayetteville, TN; brothers, Raymond Hill from China, CA, Kenneth Black from Minneapolis, MZ; daughters Alice Black from Sioux, SD, Tina Dixon from Roseburg, OR; sons, Curtis Black from Portland, OR, Dan Black from Portland, OR, David Black from Tri-City, OR; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren. Services were held at The VA Cemetery on February 13, 2001 at Myrtle Grove, Myrtle Creek, OR.

Bruce Allen Collier
COLLIER, Bruce Allen - Age 46 of Silver City, New Mexico, passed away at his home on Thursday, February 8, 2001. He was born February 11, 1954 in Roseburg, Oregon. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert James and Elizabeth May Collier and three infant sisters. He is survived by his two sons, Derek and Issac Collier of Silver City, New Mexico. He is also survived by his five brothers, Rob Collier of Portland, Oregon, David (Alice) Collier of Sutherlin, Oregon, Gary (Roxanne) Collier of Dillard, Oregon, Daniel (Debra) Collier of Winston, Oregon, and Michael Collier of Ontario, Oregon. Memorial services and burial in Roseburg are pending.

Thomas (Tom) H. Fulton
FULTON, Thomas H. - Passed away on Monday, February 12, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Roseburg. He had lived in Sutherlin for several years. A 'Celebration of His Life" will be held on Friday, February 16th at 1:00 p.m. at Skip Park, 800 South State Street in Sutherlin. Tom helped in the completion of the ground work at his park. He was the son of Thomas and Mary Pedersen of Kenai, Alaska. He was born on April 10, 1923 in Anchorage, AK. Tom was a descendant of the Russian explorers who settled in Alaska during the 1700's. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1938. In 1941 he joined the U.S. Army and served in the Aleutian Islands and other Alaska Military Installations during World War II. After the war Tom settled on the Kenai Peninsula. He retired from the Operating Engineers in 1985. He moved to Tustin, California in 1984 and then to Sutherlin in 1994. He has spent many years traveling and playing his guitars entertaining at Senior Citizens Centers and Convalescent Homes. He was often invited to play with bands wherever he went. He was a member of the Westernairs band that played throughout Douglas County. Tom was a charter member of the Kenai Elks Lodge in Alaska, the Mt, Susitna Masonic Lodge in Anchorage. He was a charter member of the Al-Aska Shrine Temple in Anchorage and was a Scottish Rite Mason. Mr. Fulton is survived by a very special friend, Miriam Wolcott, a brother & sister-in-law, Robert (Bob) & Willa Virginia Fulton of Kenai, AK, a nephew, James Fulton, a niece, Therese Fulton & her husband, Nigel Guest, a grand-niece, Breanna, and four grand-nephews, Ramon, Morgan, Stephen & Steffan Fulton all of Anchorage. Tom's ashes will be scattered at the mouth of the Kenai River in Alaska. "From whence he came, so shall he return".

Margaret Louise Marlow
MARLOW, Margaret Louise - Of Roseburg, Oregon passed away on February 13, 2001 of natural causes at the age of 62. She was born September 27, 1938 in Carlson, New Mexico to Henry Compton and Lorraine (Miller) Compton. Margaret graduated high school and had one year of college. Margaret was married to George Junior Marlow in 1952. She lived in numerous places such as Winston in 1953 to 1979, to Clarksville, Arkansas in 1979 to 1988, to Dillard in 1988 to 2000, then to Springfield in 2001. Margaret worked as a mill worker, a factory worker, and a nursing home care worker. She enjoyed helping people, her pets, flowers, traveling, and her friends and family. She is survived by her father James Henry Compton and step mother Velma Compton of Winchester, Oregon, her sons, Delbert W. Marlow, of Winchester and Dillard, Oregon, and George Dean Marlow. of Roseburg, Oregon, daughter Darla Diane Marlow, of Winston, Oregon, brother, John Lail address unknown, sisters, Linda Galves of Springfield, Oregon, and Joyce Crabtree of Springfield, Oregon, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband George Junior Marlow on February 7, 1997, and her sister Vicki Walker. Memorial services will be held on February 17, 2001 at 3:00 P.M. at Missionary Baptist Church in Union Gap, Oregon. THE MAJOR FAMILY FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family.

Fred Terry
TERRY, Fred - 80 of Roseburg, (former Glendale resident) died Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at his home. Memorial service will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 17, 2001 at Southside Church in Roseburg. Interment will be at Canyonville Masonic Cemetery in Canyonville. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements. Remembrances may be made to Mercy Hospice, 2400 Stewart Parkway, Roseburg, OR 97470. He was born on January 8, 1921 in Winfield, Tennessee. During WWII he served in the US Army. On July 8, 1946 in Huntsville, Tennessee he married Minnie A. Foster, who preceded him in death. He moved from Grants Pass to Glendale in 1950. He worked on the railroad in Grants Pass (Southern Pacific), then worked for Robert Dollar Company as a clipper operator retiring in 1983. He was a longtime member of Glendale Baptist Church and a Sunday School teacher there. He loved to study the Bible and J. Vernon McGee. He loved to eat and pay attention to his grandbabies. Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Vaughn of Roseburg; his son, Freddie Terry of Garland, Texas; one brother, two sisters; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Jose L. Carde
CARDE, Jose L. - Age 49, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2001 at a local hospital. He was born November 21,1951 in Camuy, Puerto Rico, son of Luis and Guillermina (Avila) Carde. He was raised and educated in New Jersey and moved to California in 1968 as a young man. Jose was a very talented man, who was everything from a mechanic to an electrician. He made the Roseburg area his home four years ago. He enjoyed helping older citizens and animals. He liked to play golf and chess, but mostly he loved the arts and music. Jose was a giving and free spirited man. He was active in the O.M.M.A. He is survived by, his wife, Ralfela of Roseburg, children, Rosemary Carde of Roseburg, Lois Emillo Carde of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jesse Rams of Roseburg, Elizabeth Carde of Bakersfield, California, his mother, Guillermina Carde of Los Angeles, California, six brothers and sisters, three grandchildren, Emily Rose Carde, Jesse Rams, and Linda Vanessa Rams. Everett, and their daughter, Rebecca Miriam. Her death followed a yearlong battle with cancer. Laurel was born in Roseburg November 23, 1950. She was the youngest daughter of Leroy B. and Iris B. Inman of Roseburg and a descendant of the Belknap and Finn families, early settlers of the upper McKenzie River Valley in Lane County. She attended Roseburg schools. At Joseph Lane Junior High in Roseburg, Laurel was honored with an award bearing her name, the Laurel Inman Scholarship Trophy. It was presented for maintaining a straight 4.0 grade point average during her three years at the school. The trophy is perpetuated and bestowed each year to a student maintaining a corresponding record. She was graduated from Roseburg High School in 1969. She spent six weeks in the summer prior to her senior year in Torreon, Mexico, in a special study program. She enrolled at the University of Oregon. With advance placement credits, summer school at the U.O. and at the University of Arizona summer program at Guadalajara, Mexico, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in romance languages in December of 1971. She applied to the Central Intelligence Agency and was employed at the agency offices at Langley, VA from 1972, until taking early retirement after 25 years. In her work she made extensive use of her knowledge of foreign languages, especially French and Spanish. She and Robert John Everett, a native of New York City, NY were married September 7, 1974 in Alexandria, VA. They had lived since then in Arlington, VA. A daughter, Rebecca Miriam, was born September 19, 1986. Robert is a private investigator. Besides her husband and daughter, Laurel is survived by her parents, Leroy and Iris Inman of Roseburg; two sisters, Janet (Crandall) Shepherd and her husband Dave of Florence, and Kathryn J. Cartmell and husband Gerald of Tualatin, and a brother Lawrence B. Inman and wife Maureen of Livermore, CA. She also is survived by five nieces and two nephews, Elizabeth (Crandall) Gaupo of Salem, and Deborah (Crandall) Walsh of Yakima, WA, Jennifer and Kelly Inman of Livermore, CA, and Michael, Karen, and Rian Cartmell of Tualatin, and two grand nephews. Cremation will follow funeral services in Arlington. A memorial service will be conducted in Oregon at a later date.

Margaret Louise Marlow
MARLOW, Margaret Louise - Of Roseburg, Oregon passed away on February 13, 2001 of natural causes at the age of 62. She was born September 27, 1938 in Carlson, New Mexico to Henry Compton and Lorraine (Miller) Compton. Margaret graduated high school and had one year of college. Margaret was married to George Junior Marlow in 1952. She lived in numerous places such as Winston in 1953 to 1979, to Clarksville, Arkansas in 1979 to 1988, to Dillard in 1988 to 2000, then to Springfield in 2001. Margaret worked as a mill worker, a factory worker, and a nursing home care worker. She enjoyed helping people, her pets, flowers, traveling, and her friends and family. She is survived by her father James Henry Compton and step mother Velma Compton of Winchester, Oregon, her sons, Delbert W. Marlow, of Winchester and Dillard, Oregon, and George Dean Marlow of Roseburg, Oregon, daughter Darla Diane Marlow of Winston, Oregon, brother, John Lail address unknown, sisters, Linda Galvez of Springfield, Oregon, and Joyce Crabtree of Springfield, Oregon, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband George Junior Marlow on February 7, 1997, and her sister Vicki Walker. ROLEN, Clarence - Age 69 on Winston passed away from cancer at his home on February 2, 2001 . He was born on May 20, 1931 in Hayworth, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Gladys Gill, grandparents (also adopted parents) M. Samuel and Gertrude Rollen, fraternal grandparents, Grant and Mattie Gill, one infant brother. Clarence is survived by daughter, Diane Parker, granddaughter Mellissa Parker, grandson Jacob Parker, step daughter, Phyliss and husband Dave and children Carla and Tracy McMahon all of Randall, WA, brother Joe Mowery of Idabell, OK, three sisters, Joyce Hibdon of Broken Bow, OK, Mattie and husband Joe Sexton of Princeton, TX, Pearl McCrory of Oakland, OR. Clarence was cremated. No services by request.

Layle Ray Van Tassel
VAN TASSEL, Layle Ray - Age 88, of Canyonville, Oregon, passed away Friday, February 16, 2001 in a Roseburg hospital. He was born to Prentiss Philo Van Tassel and Lula Mae Kersteter Van Tassel at Plainview, Oregon on July 30, 1912. He spent his entire life in Central Oregon living in Sisters, Bend, and Redmond until moving to Canyonville five years ago. He married H. Luella Line on November 13, 1941. She preceded him in death in 1995. After retirement, he and his wife, Luella spent over twenty years working as full-time volunteers for the Bend Community Service Center. During that time they helped thousands of people with food, clothing, and household items. Their community service work was featured numerous times in the Bend Bulletin. Layle loved to play Scrabble and other games. He was never known to turn down someone who offered to play a game with him. He also enjoyed camping and spending time with his family. He had just returned from spending three weeks in Hawaii where he went for his first helicopter ride. He was a member of the Canyonville Seventh-day Adventist Church. He is survived by his daughters, Lexi Fields of Kanuela, Hawaii, Lee Anne Settlemier of Scio, Oregon, and Connie Gayle Fleener of Portland, Oregon. He is also survived by his son, Kenneth Line of Bakersfield, California. His grandchildren are Debra Gordon of Loomis, California, Jeff Fields of Redwood Valley, California, Tyrone Settlemier of Albany, Oregon, Camron Settlemier of Tigard, Oregon, Victoria Burke of Puyallup, Washington, and Elizabeth Satterlee of Kent, Washington. Layle is also survived by eight great-great-grandchildren, and four great-step-grandsons. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lorinda (Lori) Dobson, four brothers and two sisters. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Forest Glen in Canyonville on Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at 6 p.m. He will be buried at Camp Polk Cemetery in Sisters, Oregon. Arrangements are under the care of WILSON'S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES & CREMATORY.

Emmett H. Hogan Sr.
HOGAN, Emmett H. Sr. - Of Roseburg, OR passed away after a lengthy illness on February 18, 2001. He was born on February 1, 1918 in Bethel, Oklahoma. Emmett and his wife Jacqueline have been Roseburg residents for over 55 years. Emmett was a long time employee of Sun Studs, Inc. and retired from there in 1981. He enjoyed music, dancing, sports, his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline of Roseburg; his daughter Jackie Wines and her husband Mike of Longview, Washington; his son Emmett Hogan, Jr. (Butch) and his wife Kathy of Roseburg; his granddaughters Jeriliyn Ingalls of Longview, WA, Jennifer Rouffel of Longview, WA, Haley Lansing of Roseburg, OR and Emiley Hogan of Roseburg, OR; his six greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Also his sisters Dessie Roper of Roseburg, Rae Nelson of Portland and Ola McKnight of Tulsa, OK. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and two sisters. A memorial service will be held at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at 1 p.m.

Nellie Bushnell
Bushnell, Nellie E. - Age 75, of Tenmile, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2001 at her home. She was born August 23, 1925 in Yankton, Oregon, daughter of William Sheridan and Mary Ann (Haumea) Newlun. She was raised and educated in Yankton and married Delmar "Jiggs" Bushnell on September 12, 1950 in Longview, WA. They moved to Tenmile and she worked at the Winston-Dillard School District from 1968 until 1976. In the latter part of 1976 she and Jiggs bought the Yankton Grocery Store and operated it until October of 1978, when they retired. Nellie enjoyed family gatherings, camping and picnics including jet boat rides on the Rogue River. She also loved to mine for gold and worked the Olalla and Thompson Creeks. She was able to take two trips to Hawaii to see family. She is survived by seven children; Darrell Bushnell of Tenmile, OR, Linda Thrush of Tenmile, OR, Ted and Darla Kirkendall of Camas Valley, OR, Gary & Patty Carnine of Rogue River, OR, Tim & Melody Fulton of Charleston, OR, Kevin & Kitti Dicke of Tenmile, OR, Ed & Jo Ransom of Eugene, OR. Nellie has eighteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She also had a special place in the heart for daughters, Carolyn Northcraft and Kathy Clegg. Also surviving are two sisters, Christina Luttrell of St. Helens, OR and Virginia Olson of Portland, OR. A brother, Gary Newlun of Sandy, OR and special sisters, Georgia Anderson and Ruby June McDowell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer "Jiggs" who died January 30, 1983 and a daughter, Anita Marie who died on February 6, 1959. A brother, John Newlun and a sister Helen Metcaft also preceded her in death. Memorial services will be conducted at Taylor's Family Chapel on Saturday, February 3, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. Officiating will be Pastor Sonny Wafer. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Nellie's name can be made to the Ladies Auxiliary or the V.F.W. Post 9745 and left at the services or sent to the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor's Family Chapel.

William Henry Stephens, Jr.
STEPHENS Jr., William Henry - Age 85 of Roseburg, Oregon passed away Thursday, February 1, 2001 at a local hospital. He was born July 12, 1915 in White Water, Kansas to William and Ann (Freude) Stephens, Sr. William married Cleda Alice Sheek, September 17, 1938 in Washington. After their marriage they lived in Chugiak, Alaska where William was the owner of a Chevron Dealership. He enjoyed playing golf everyday and loved to travel. William is survived by his children; Barbara Bartram of Roseburg, Lester Stephens of Foster City, California, Rick Stephens of Wasilla, Alaska, Aprile Gaudinier of Whidby Island, Washington, and Alice Garcia, of Eugene, Oregon, 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. His brother Hadley Stephens of Yakima, Washington, sisters; Edith Stevens of Roseburg, Dorothy Stephens of Yakima, Washington and Frances Brown of Aurora, Colorado. William was preceded in death by his wife Cleda Alice Stephens, November 2, 1998, his son Ronald Stephens and his parents. Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2001, at Mercy Mcauley House, 1400 NE Rocky Ridge Drive. For time of service please call 673-6402. Cremation rites have been held. Camilia Williams
WILLIAMS, Camilia - Age 83 of Brookings, Oregon passed away on January 24, 2001. She was born November 23, 1917 in Bayview, Washington to Frederick and Florence Tiemyer. Camilia lived in Winston for most of her life. She later moved to Brookings and lived there eight years. She worked as an accountant for her husband Steve Williams who was a truck driver. She enjoyed bowling. She is survived by three sons, Fred Williams of Brookings, Oregon, Dee Williams of Oak Harbor, Washington, and Donald Williams of Roseburg, Oregon, and a daughter, Donna Smith of Salem, Oregon, and ten grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held January 31, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. at the Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Randy Webb officiating. LITTY FUNERAL DIRECTORS is in charge of arrangements.

James E. Young
YOUNG, James E. - A memorial service will be held February 10, 2001 for James E. Young of Junction City, OR who died on January 24, 2001 from Acute Leukemia and a stroke. He was 78. Mr. Young was born March 15, 1922 to Archie and Anna Young in Hammond, Ind. The family moved to Watts in So. California in 1923. He graduated from Compton Jr. College in 1939. In the early 40's the family moved to the So. Oregon area. From there he joined the Navy Seabees, he served in Hawaii and Guam. After his discharge from the Navy he worked in the lumber industry. He retired from Superior Lumber in Glendale, OR. He enjoyed gun collecting, reading, old movies, good friends and in his earlier years traveling, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Elks and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife Thelma of Tualatin, OR, his daughter Susan Mattson of Junction City, OR., brothers: Robert of Canyonville, OR, Donald of Yakutat, AK and Fred of Guatay, CA, sister Barbara Smith of Roseburg, OR, stepchildren, Judi Baker, Nick Castillo, Lee Castillo, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his youngest sister, Mary. Saturday's memorial will be held at the Junction City Moose Lodge, #2238 at 1pm.
