KENNEDY-RICHARDSON, Barbara Mary Alice - Passed away peacefully on June 30, 2000 with her family and loved ones at her side. For more than 12 years Barbara courageously accepted the challenges of her affliction ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Time and time again she rebounded to share her spirit, and love of life, with family and friends. Barbara was born Sept. 8, 1951 to Rebecca and Wallace Richardson of Myrtle Creek, Oregon. She was one of seven brothers and sisters. Upon graduation from South Umpqua High School, Barbara received a scholarship to Beautician's school, where she obtained her license, and began work in Lake Oswego. She soon owned and operated Barb and Tina's Hair Design with lifelong friend, Christina Gaddis. During this same time, she was also raising her two children, Kim and Scott. Her living relatives are her sister, Joyce Taylor, of Redding, California and her daughter, Joan Fedder of Roseburg, Oregon. Her grandchildren are Danielle Fedder, Caprielle Fedder Maschinot, Trina Person Stolfo, Kevin Person, Ian Caley Wakefield, and Dylan and Noah Wakefield. Eloise, sometimes affectionately called "Squeeze" by her friends, was a good friend, a reserved, often quiet person, who preferred to work behind the scenes a lot. She was an artist and a perfectionist; she painted, sculpted, and drew with beautiful precision. She encouraged all four children to do their homework and attended a lot of school functions. She was a good mother who stayed home to raise children--two boys and two girls, until the youngest daughter was in school. Then she worked a time a JC Penney's. She worked 23 years at Next-To-New from 1964 to 1987---half of that time as a volunteer and half as the paid manager. Donations will be sent to Association for Retarded Citizens at 736 SE Jackson St. Roseburg, Oregon 97470. Mom chose not to have any fanfare at her death, refusing outright not to have a funeral service or memorial. She wants those dear to her to know what Helen Steiner Rice expressed so beautifully. "When I must leave you for a little while, please go on bravely with a gallant smile, and for my sake and in my name, live on and do all things the same. Spend not your life in empty days, but fill each waking hour in useful ways.Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer, and I in turn will comfort you and hold you near." She hopes these words will ease our sorrow, and give us courage for each tomorrow. So, we honor her in memory, within each of ourselves who knew and loved her.
