She would often reminisce that their family home was the gathering place for all the kids. Blueberry picking, bird hunting and picnics on Lake Superior were favorite memories of growing up. They moved often, as job opportunities arose, but Thelma did not mind. After being married for 25 years, Teen died in 1969. Thelma did not give birth to any children however, she had many children she loved and watched over throughout her life. The love she gave endeared her as "Aunt" to all and many do not know her given name. Thelma had a strong faith in God and beloved to the Presbyterian Church in Michigan. Later in life she attended the Lookingglass Church. Thelma has lived in the Roseburg area since 1971. She loved spending time puttering around her yard, raising chickens and watching the wildlife in her backyard. She cared for and fed all the pets and wild animals around her. Thelma enjoyed reading western novels, but is known especially for her gift of storytelling. She entertained those around her with tales of childhood antidotes and life events. Thelma was always ready to go, whether for country rides, family outings, or attending holiday events. She maintained her independence to the age of 89. Thelma is survived by her sister, Naomi Reider of Roseburg, Oregon along with numerous nieces and nephews. A remembrance picnic will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 19th at O.C. Brown Park.
