Jennie Marie Hughes
HUGHES, Jennie Marie - 90, of Riddle, Oregon died Saturday, May 19, 2001 at 10:05 pm of natural causes. Jennie was born to Ralph and Mamie Halbert on February 8, 1911 in Blue Mound, Illinois. She married John C,. Hughes In April 6, 1936 in Springfield. Illinois. She moved to Riddle in 1973. Jennie enjoyed over 60 years as an active minister of Jehovah's Witnesses. She loved bible reading and sharing her faith with others. She also enjoyed dancing, singing, card playing and gardening. Survivors include her husband, John of Riddle, Oregon; six children, Keith Gaynor and wife Dorothy of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; Robert Gaynor and wife Tiny of Kalispel, Montana; Bonnie Roswell of Riddle, Oregon; George Hughes and wife Patricia of Springfield, Oregon; Thelma Perkins and husband Fred of Roseburg, Oregon; patrick Hughes and wife Vicki of Wamic, Oregon; one brother, Keith Halbert of San Jose, California; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her parents, three sisters, one brother and four children preceded her in death. MOUNTAIN VIEW MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME in Myrtle Creek is making the necessary arrangements. A memorial will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, located at 820 Bond Street in Myrtle Creek, Oregon. Following the service a get-together of family and friends will be held at Community Center in Riddle at 123 1st Street.
Eugene Harris Keitzman
KEITZMAN, Eugene Harris - Age 70, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2001 in Eugene, Oregon. Gene was born in Lakota, North Dakota on December 2, 1930 to Samuel Keitzman and Elenor (Malek) Keitzman. The family moved to Ellensburg, Washington in 1941. He attended Thorp High school before he became a U.S. Marine. In 1952 he moved to Roseburg, Oregon and found the love of his life, Marvis Major. On May 14, 1954, they were united in marriage in Eugene, Oregon. They raised their family in Roseburg where Gene was a partner at Southern Oregon Battery Co. Upon his retirement, they moved to Tenmile Lake in the Oregon Coast. For the past 10 years they lived in Eugene, Oregon. He is survived by his wife Marvis ( Major) Keitzman of Eugene; a son Brad Keitzman and his wife Nancy of Roseburg; two daughters, Konni Baker and Jodie Merrill of Kelso, Washington; brothers Charles of Renton, Washington, Bud of Ellensburg, Washington, Jim of Portland, Oregon and Harold of Seattle, Washington; his sister Caroline McGowan of Seattle, Washington; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Julie Vae Pritchard in 2000. Arrangements are pending at CHAPEL OF THE ROSES in Roseburg, Oregon.
Gloria M. Kleatsch
KLEATSCH, Gloria M. - of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Roseburg, beloved mother and grandmother, went with the angels on May 6, 2001 at a Scottsdale hospital. She was born on February 3, 1923 to Robert Lang and Lucille Swarts in Columbus, Ohio. Gloria married George Burrows in 1944 and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. In 1963 she married James Kleatsch II, they moved to California , then to Oregon. Then in 1986 they moved to Arizona. Gloria was a homemaker who took a great joy in her family. She loved all animals, especially two new puppies, Kassie and Mandy. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws, David and Gerri Burrows of Umpqua, Oregon and Jim and Christine Kleatsch III of Gouverneur, New York; grandchildren, Nathan Burrows of Roseburg, Oregon, DJ and Elissa Burrows of Umpqua, Oregon and Kara, James, John all of Gouverneur, New York; great -grandson, Adam; special friend she loved as a daughter Darlene Bottrell and children, Sara and Steven of Scottsdale, Arizona. Gloria was preceded in death by George Burrows in 1960, James Kleatsch II in 1980 and her parents. Cremation services performed by Messinger Mortuary in Scottsdale, Arizona. Private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Umpqua, Oregon.
Zachary Delone Anderson
ANDERSON, Zachary Delone - Age 25, of Coos Bay, Oregon, passed away May 24, 2001. He was born October 13, 1975 in Coos Bay. A lover of the ocean, he started fishing with his father, Eric and grandfather, Fred Anderson on the Betty A when he was 12 years old. This included dragging for bottom fish and shrimp, joint ventures off the Washington coast. He later went on the FV Washington and F/V Jaguare and others. Zachary enjoyed his family and friends very much. He enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles, writing poetry, cooking, and working on cars, camping, traveling, listening to music, spending time in the sand dunes with his brothers, but he mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and just helping others. Anything Zach tried doing he did very well. He worked hard to receive a certificate as an ordained minister in 1999. Survivors include, father, Eric Elmer Anderson, mother, Faye Elizabeth Hammond, three step-parents, Pam Lowry, James A. Hammond, all of Coos Bay, and Steven Miller of Crescent City, California, five brothers, Jacob Frederick Anderson and wife, Tracy, Jared Eli Anderson and wife, Martha, Steven Patrick Miller, Jeff Lowry, Danny Lowry, all of Coos Bay, two sisters, Emily Mychael Miller, Angela Lowry Smith, brother-in-law, Claude Smith, grandmother, Betty Anderson, all of Coos Bay, grandmother, (fondly known as Granny Byrd): Carolyn Lee of Winston, Oregon, uncles and aunts, Mike and Joyce Byrd and family, Pat and Debi Byrd and family, all of Powers, Oregon, Bruce Frederick Anderson of Bandon, Oregon, Brian and Jeanette Thompson of Eugene, Oregon, four nieces, two nephews, many cousins and many, many friends. Rosealma L. Corwin
CORWIN, Rosealma L. - Age 80, a resident of Canyonville, Oregon, went to be with the Lord early Friday morning, May 25, 2001 at a hospital in Roseburg. She was born at Lawrence, Kansas on June 2, 1920 to the late Earl and Bessie Denewiler Martin. She grew up and went through her junior year in high school in Kansas. She lived at Blythe, California where she went through her senior year and graduated from high school there. After her high school she moved to Lawrence, Kansas and stayed there until going to San Diego, California in 1940. In July of 1942 she married George Sherman and they lived in various places before returning to San Diego in 1959. It also was in 1959 that she and George moved to Canyonville. Rosealma married Ben Corwin on July 2, 1970 at Moscow, Idaho. They lived in Glendale, Oregon for six years, at Cow Creek for seven years, Grants Pass for 12 years and for the past five years at Canyonville. Rosealma liked traveling and was very active in the Assembly of God Church in Canyonville. Rosealma was truly a loving wife, mother and sister who will be missed very much by all who knew her. Surviving are her husband, Ben J. Corwin of Canyonville, a son, Jim Sherman of Spanaway, Washington, a sister, Helen Brown of Portland, Oregon, grandsons, Tony Sherman of Montana, Jeremy and James Sherman, both of Tacoma, Washington, and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at Hillcrest Memorial Park at Grants Pass. Visitation hours will be Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at MOUNTAIN VIEW MEMORIAL CHAPEL at Myrtle Creek, Oregon.
Ruth Howes Erickson
ERICKSON, Ruth Howes - Age 86, passed away peacefully on May 12th, 2001 at Mercy Skilled Care Center in Roseburg. She was born in Portland, Oregon, on May 14th, 1914. A descendant of Oregon Trail Pioneers who homesteaded on the North Umpqua river, and Cape Cod clipper ship captains who sailed between Portland and Asia, Ruth led a creative, energetic and caring life. After graduation from Grant High School in Portland, she studied art and education, earning her degree from San Jose State College in California. She spent much of her life as an educator where she quickly earned the respect of her students with her innovative and "no monkey business" ways. Shortly before World War II, she met her husband, Edwin A. Erickson, son of Swedish immigrants, in Clatskanie, Oregon, and became his wife in 1944. They moved to Roseburg in 1951, where they raised their two sons, John and Steve. While living and working as a teacher and housewife in the mid-1950's, Ruth and several other Roseburg area housewives formed one of the area's first independent women's groups... " The Jolly Girls". The group became a vehicle for many an outing filled with hilarity and adventure. Floating rivers, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, golfing, sailing and travel sustained their spirits for may years. After retiring from teaching, Ruth followed her avid love of nature and animals to become a pioneer docent at the Wildlife Safari where she founded, coordinated, and led educational tours of the park for more than twenty years. Ruth's many travels included several trips to Africa to experience its people, landscapes and wildlife. Ruth played an active role in the lives of many, including those of her grandsons, Benjamin and Jasper. Ruth is survived by her sons, John and Steve, and their sons, all of Roseburg; her sister Harriet Lesher of Portland; her cousin Tom Paterson of Oakland, California; her sisters-in-law Viola Washburn of Santa Cruz, California, and Linnea West and Melvina Barr of Clatskanie, Oregon; as well as by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Colene Ruth (Dill) Ranson
RANSON, Colene Ruth (Dill) - Age 56, of Little Rock, AR, formerly of Azalea, OR, passed away on May 5, 2001, at a Townsin, AR Hospice Center after a 14 month battle with cancer. Colene was born August 3, 1944 in Grants Pass, OR to parents Carroll C. Dill Sr. and Bertha May (Scoggins). She attended her early years of schooling in Ashland, OR. Later moving to Upper Cow Creek with her sister Mary to live with their father in 1959. She attended two years of High School in Canyonville and finished her last two in Glendale, OR, graduated in 1962. She love to travel and was a long haul truck driver for four and a half years, later working 16 1/2 years with V.A.W. in St. Augustine, Florida and had been working for the past 5 1/2 years for Markham Inn in Little Rock, Ark. Working from the ground floor up to Assistant Manger until she had to take early retirement last March 2000 due to the Cancer. She loved to sew and taught herself to crochet and among other things. Crochet dresses for classic dolls and sold them in several states. She is survived by her sister Mary and Ted Arrowood of Myrtle Creek, OR; half brother, Donald Dill of Sparks, NV; Nieces, Helen Clack of Myrtle Creek, OR, Victoria Arrowood of Roseburg, OR, and Catherine Cook of Baton Rouge, LA. Also many other nieces and nephews. Colene was married three times and had three children, Eugena May Dobbs, Allen Wayne Dobbs. Her first son born was adopted out. She was preceded in death by a half brother in 1976, her father in 1981, her mother in 1998 and all her grandparents. Visitation was held May 7th at Huson Funeral Home and she was laid to Rest May 8th, 2001 at Pinecrest Crematory in Little Rock, AR. HUSON FUNERAL HOME was in charge of the arrangements.
Hazel Irene "Hoot" Fields
FIELDS, Hazel Irene "Hoot" - Age 75, of Roseburg, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2001, in a local hospital. She was born on Wednesday, October 7, 1925 at Fall Creek, Oregon to Vern LeRoy and Mollie Elizabeth (Potter) Hucka. When Hazel was younger, she worked as a telephone operator. She also was an excellent seamstress and taught sewing classes for Sears. On March 6, 1970 in Springfield, OR., she married Carl L. Fields and they moved to the Roseburg area. Over the years they have lived in Hines, OR, for a short time and worked fire watch for Conifer Logging Co. Hazel collected owls of all kinds, sizes and shapes. this accounts for her nickname "Hoot." Mrs. Fields is survived by her husband of 31 years, Carl L. Fields of Roseburg; two sons, Tom Lowman and his wife Vicky of Lowell, OR, Jerry Lowman and his wife Cathy of Springfield, OR.; four step-sons, Jim Fields and his wife Helen, Bob Fields and his wife Barbara, all of Roseburg, OR, Larry Fields and his wife Sharon of Salem, OR, Bill Fields and his wife Kim of Woodland, WA; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers Bill Hucka and wife Norma of Eugene, OR, Chuck Hucka and wife Verlee of Virginia and a sister, Dorothy Blakley also of Eugene, OR and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 1, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses. Chaplain Karen Lovin will officiate. Private interment will follow in Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Mariam "Beatrice" Poteete Boyle
BOYLE, Mariam Poteete- of Myrtle Creek, passed away May 29, 2001 in a Roseburg care center at the age of 88. She was born January 10, 1913 in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma. She has lived in Oregon since 1946. Beatrice was married to captain Lawrence Jackson Boyle of Canyonville, Oregon on October 7, 1942. When World War II was over she came with Mr. Boyle to Canyonville to make their home. She has been a resident of Myrtle Creek since 1951. After graduating from Gore Oklahoma High School in 1932 she attended and graduated from Northeastern State College, Tahlequah, Oklahoma with a bachelor of science degree and started her teaching career. She taught nine years in Oklahoma including Brewer Bend School, Cedar Creek School, Webbers Falls School and at the Whittier Elementary in Moskogee, Oklahoma. After moving to Oregon she continued her education at Southern Oregon College and the University of Oregon. She retired from Myrtle Creek schools after 38 years of teaching in June 1975. She was a member of the Roseburg Rescue Mission Auxiliary, the South Umpqua Historical Society, American Bible Society, National Retired Person and since 1949 a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Myrtle Creek. Beatrice has been involved in numerous church ministries, including that of Sunday School teacher, Sunday school superintendent and director of many vacation Bible school programs and teacher training courses. She established a successful children's church and was the director for seven years. She was missionary secretary and secretary-treasurer-bookkeeper for the church for 11 years. She was an ardent worker in the Sunday school She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Eugene and Sarah Cordelia Poteete; two brothers, Troy E. Poteete and Eugie J. Poteete and one sister, Verba Poteete. Surviving her a sister, Vina Armeda Brown of Tri-City and a brother, Warren Dale Poteete of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Trusted friends, Floy and Bob Sproul. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2001 at the First Assembly of God in Myrtle Creek, with Reverend John W. Long officiating. Private interment will be held in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Myrtle Creek. Mountain View Memorial Chapel at Myrtle Creek is serving the family.
Luther J. Chrisenberry
CHRISENBERRY, Luther J. - 81, a 10 year resident of Olympia and a previous 25 year resident of Roseburg, Oregon, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001 of cancer at a hospital in Olympia. He was born April 23, 1920 in Lincoln, MO to William and Arvilla (Rinker) Chrisenberry. Mr. Chrisenberry married Juanita Franklin on April 1, 1939 in Yuma, AZ. Mr. Chrisenberry is survived by his wife Juanita Chrisenberry of Olympia; two daughters, Anita Seratt of Kent and Sue Gumbish of Bellingham; a son Stan Chrisenberry of Fullerton, CA; a brother Larry Chrisenberry of Roseburg, OR; a sister Jeannie Anderson of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one-great-great grandchild. Roberta May (Even) Meador
MEADOR, Roberta May (Even) - of Whidbey Island, WA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 2, 2001 at her son's home in Bothell, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 4, 1920 in Los Angeles, CA, the only daughter of Robert Biles and Myrtle Burros Even. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Bobby "baby brother", Glen and Robert Even. Roberta was married to Lee F. Meador for nearly 30 years and leaves behind five children, Ralph "Charlie" (Manya) Meador, Roseburg, OR, Robert (Nancy) Meador, Bothell, WA, Janna Haas, Las Vegas, NV, Clifford (Barb) Meador, Lynnwood, WA, and Robin (Butch) Black, Athens, TN; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her family, she was "Mom" and "GMAW" to many others, including several foster children. She was a wonderful, loving, and dedicated mother who always put her children's needs first. A beautician by trade, Roberta worked many places throughout her life, including Scott Paper Company for 10 years, but she is best known for her gift of caregiving. Whosoever's path she crossed they never forgot her and quite often became a lifelong friend. She has touched the lives of many and will continue to do so, as memories are shared. Her life is perhaps best summed up in 1 Peter 4:8-10..."Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." The family celebrated her passing at her son's home in Bothell, WA. James I. Noell
NOELL, James I. - Age 79, of Tenmile, passed away at his home after a two-and-a-half year battle with cancer, on Saturday, May 26, 2001. He was born on December 11, 1921 in Fullerton, California to James N. Noell and Hazel Mayberry Noell. Jim had an older sister Dorothea, who died in 1988. He went to Taft High School and junior college in Taft, California where he graduated in 1942. He then entered the service and was trained as a radar observer night fighter in the Air Corps receiving his commission as 1st Lieutenant. He served in Europe and was discharged in November 1945. On October 27, 1945, he married Ruth Everitts in Bakersfield, California. They had a truly wonderful fun filled marriage. One of Jim's traits was a real sense of humor. The Monday after they were married he enrolled at UCLA. In 1946, Jim transferred to the University of California at Berkley where he received a degree in wildlife management and then took some other educational courses. Ruth worked in the president's office at the University. In 1950, he worked as game manager at the Kofa Bighorn Sheep Refuge in Arizona. Jim was soon recalled into the Air Force and was sent to Whidby Island in Washington. Very soon he was sent to Japan again as a radar observer. He was discharged in 1952. His next job was as a deer trapper for the State of Arizona where he trapped deer (for relocation) at both the South and North Rims of the Grand Canyon. In 1953 they moved to Taft, California where Jim worked for Standard Oil Company as a field technician and going to school again taking drafting. He soon became a draftsman. In 1955 their wonderful son Michael entered their lives adding more happiness. They moved to Bakersfield, California then to Salt Lake City, Utah, and again to Bakersfield. After 10 years with Standard Oil Company, Jim quit and went back to college at Fresno State University where he obtained his teacher's credential. Jim's first teaching assignment at age 43 was in Manteca, California. In 1967 he and Ruth moved to Stockton, California where he continued teaching 4th, 5th and 6th grades, and was also a math specialist. Jim was an excellent and caring teacher and his students and co-workers thought he was great. While teaching, he designed their home and landscaping and also drove 50 miles to Turlock ("turkey tech") College one night a week and acquired his masters degree. Ruth worked for the school district also. After teaching for 21 years, they both retired in 1986, moving to Tenmile, Oregon in 1990, where Jim again designed their current home and landscaping. During their retirement they joined the Collins Trailer Club where they met their wonderful friends and enjoyed many campouts. Jim had great pride in his hard work the last 2 1/2 years trying to finish a paradise for his wife of 55 1/2 years. Jim is survived by his wife and best friend, Ruth of Tenmile; his loving son, Mike (Michael) and daughter-in-law Kimberly; grandchildren Michael Jr. and Steffaine, all of Reno, Nevada; sister Pamela Zulfa and brother-in-law Jerry Zulfa; nephews David and Michael Zulfa and his wife Laurie, and their three children all of Bakersfield, California; brother-in-law Donald Everitts and his wife Alice of Auburn, California; nephew Donald Everitts Jr. and his wife Carrie; their son Skyler; niece Donna Hunt and husband Fred and their daughters Jessica and Heather of Sierra Vista, Arizona. Douglas Alexander Parker
PARKER, Douglas Alexander - Age 79, of Winston, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2001. He was born October 9, 1921 in Hooker, OK to John W. and Rutha (Chambers) Parker. He was the oldest of six children. He attended Frick High school in Frick, Colorado. Douglas was very active with his family and loved anything to do with the outdoors including fishing, camping and hunting. His happiest moments were spent playing cards with his children, son-in-laws and grandchildren. He enjoyed four-wheelers on the sand dunes with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends. After retirement he enjoyed building utility and recreational trailers. At the age of 20 Douglas joined the Army and served three years. Twenty-two months were served as medical aidman in the European Theatre of Operations with the 38th Infantry administering first aid to those wounded in battle on the front lines and was also in charge of radio location of injured to aid stations. He also served as ward technician with the 67th Evacuation Hospital. The battles and campaigns he served in Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes, Northern France and Central Europe. He received a EAME ribbon and good conduct metal. After the service he married Charlene Ward of Gillham, Arkansas on June 19, 1946 in Dequeen, Arkansas. They moved to Ulysses, Kansas where he worked as a wheat farmer for his aunt and uncle for 10 years. In 1956 they moved to Winston, Oregon. In 1962 they bought a ranch at Nonpariel east of Sutherlin and lived there for nine years. They then returned to Winston to the same house where he lived his remaining years. He worked at Hult Sawmill in Dillard and later retired from Champion International of Roseburg in 1983. He was a lifetime member of the Winston V.F.W. and a member of the N.R.A. He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years Charlene Parker; five daughters Betty Ledbetter and husband Bill of Roseburg, Kathy Neifert and husband Dick of Roseburg, Gene Tharp and husband Lonnie of Roseburg, Laura Brown and husband Keith of Coos Bay and Bonita Gibson and husband David of Roseburg. He is also survived by seven grandchildren Pamela OIder and Douglas Goodman, Jayson Neifert, Chas Stiltner, Travis and Jessica Brown and Christopher Gibson; his brothers Frank Parker of Camas Valley and P.L. (Bud) Parker of Oak Harbor, Washington and one sister Naomi Roberts of Smithville, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Glen Parker, sister Isabel Bryant and a granddaughter Rayna Sue Neigert. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 1, 2001 at 1 p.m. at TAYLOR'S FAMILY CHAPEL in Winston. Interment to follow at Lookingglass Cemetery with military rites by the V.F.W. District #12 Honor Guard.
Josephine Maurine Ronk
RONK, Josephine Maurine - Age 90, went to be with her Lord on May 27, 2001. She died in a local nursing home from a long illness. She was born April 3, 1911 in Roseburg, Oregon to Orville O. and Maude (Cornelison) Jennings. She attended Roseburg High school and was a member of the "29 Gals". She was a charter member of South Umpqua Chapel Church of Christ. She married Kenneth Virgil Ronk on June 22, 1929. She loved being home and cooking for her family. Family was very important to her. For 20 years she worked for the Myrtle Creek School District as a cook and later as a dietician just prior to retirement. She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Weekly and her husband Richard of Lakeview and Pamela Buckwalter and her husband Larry of Sutherlin; three grandchildren, Lynne Buckwalter of Winston, Jolene Buckwalter of Sutherlin and Kenneth Dale Weekly and wife Debbie of Lakeview; two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her baby sister Phyllis, her parents, younger brother Orville, her husband Kenneth and beloved sister Rosa Lee. In accordance with her wishes no funeral or memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Josephine Ronk. Interment will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Myrtle Creek.
Norrine Lee Sharkey
SHARKEY, Norrine Lee - Age 52, of Brownsville, Oregon passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2001 at Lebanon, Oregon. She was born on Monday, June 14, 1948 at Portland, Oregon to Clifford and Evelyn (Ellis) Chase. Norrine lived the majority of her life in Oregon and Washington. For several years she worked as a phlebotomist at Lakeview General Hospital near Tacoma. In 1997 she moved to Wyoming, where she met Jim Sharkey. They got married on July 9, 1999. Norrine is survived by her husband Jim Sharkey of Brownsville, Oregon; a daughter Tammie West and granddaughter Madeline of Seattle, Washington; a son Joe Simonton and wife Linda of Casper, Wyoming; a granddaughter Tiffany Wright and a great-grandson Sage of Tacoma, Washington, a brother Gordon Geers and his wife Joyce of Portland, Oregon; a sister Darlene LeGore and her husband Marvin of Roseburg, Oregon, and nephews Richard and Robert Spencer, Mark and Brian Geers. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2001 at 12:30 p.m. at the Church of God, 4051 NE Stephens. David Harris will officiate. Private cremation rites have been held under the care of WILSON'S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY.
John H. Waldroupe
WALDROUPE, John H. - Age 70, passed away Sunday morning, May 27, 2001 at home with his family at his side after a year long battle with cancer. He was born in Hot Springs, North Carolina August 21, 1930 to Joseph and Laura Waldroupe. John grew up and received his education in Hot Springs. When his father was transferred by the railroad co. he was working for the family moved to Southern California. In 1950 John enlisted in the U.S. Army and was proud to be a veteran of the Korean Conflict. After serving his country John worked until retirement as an off shore well driller for the Exxon Co. He later moved to the Myrtle Creek area in 1991 where he enjoyed working with his flowers, gardening and cooking was a favorite pastime. Most recently his daughter Laurie joined him in Myrtle Creek to care for him. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include a son John Waldroupe Jr. and daughter Laurie Waldroupe of Myrtle Creek; two grandchildren Michelle Cox of Texas and Mark Holcomb of Southern California and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday May 30, 2001 at 5 p.m. at Myrtle Creek Family Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be Thursday, May 31, 2001, 2 p.m. at Myrtle Creek Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John P. Gustafson officiating. Private Interment will be held at the Myrtle Creek Independent Order of Oddfellows Cemetery. Mazie Lee Baumeister
BAUMEISTER, Mazie Lee - Age 91, of Idleyld Park, passed away Monday, April 30, 2001 at her residence. She was born on Wednesday, November 24, 1909 at Colville, Washington to Lee Burdett and Florence Belle (Campbell) English. On June 23, 1933 in Colville she married Herman Carl Baumeister, who preceded her in death on January 7, 1977. The Baumeister's moved to Roseburg in 1953 and resided here until 1973 when they moved to Cascade Locks. While in Roseburg Mazie worked at Douglas Community Hospital for eight years. Following the death of her husband Mazie moved to White Salmon, Washington where she was a hospice volunteer. She later moved to Port Hadlock, Washington and then back to the Roseburg area in July 2000. Mazie was a wife, a mother and a grandmother. Mazie has "Gone Home", she would say "I'm going home" when she talked about her own death. Mrs. Baumeister is survived by six children: Leon Baumeister and his wife Wanda of Bremerton, WA, Frank Baumeister and his wife Barbara of Reno, NV, Ann Olson of Hood River, OR, Ellen Watkins and her husband Bob of Port Hadlock, WA, and Bill Baumeister of Idleyld Park, OR, 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, a brother Delbert English and his wife Mae of Tracyton, WA, numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Baumeister was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters: Claude and Neil, Hazel and Patty and a grandson Lucas King who died on June 29, 2000. Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 7, 2001 at 2:00 PM at the Mt. View Memorial Cemetery in Hood River, Oregon. Madeline Stowe Beecroft
BEECROFT, Madeline Stowe - Of Sutherlin, Oregon passed away April 29, 2001 at the age of 95. Madeline came to Sutherlin during the Great Depression from Grand Rapids, Michigan by way of Portland, Oregon. having fallen in love with the area making it her lifetime home. She was an active RSVP member, helping organize the Senior Citizens in 1977. She was a member of Sew and Sew, Post Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Stowe Sr. and George Beecroft; sons Walter and Robert Stowe; grandson Tim Chandler. She is survived by daughters Lola Chandler of Sutherlin, Katherine Gomez of Yorba Linda, California. Many grandchildren also great and great great grandchildren. Although we were not ready to let you leave us , we know that we were the lucky ones to have had you in our lived. To Be of the receiving end of your love was a gift we will remember always. We are proud to have been a part of your life and for ever more, you will be a part of ours. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, laughter, and most of all your love. Mary Veronica Buenzle
BUENZLE, Mary Veronica - Age 87, of Roseburg, passed away April 15, 2001 at a local hospital. She was born Mary Veronica Martin on September 4, 1913 in Waverley, Massachusetts, to Arthur and Mary (Davis) Martin. She received a B.S. Ed. Degree from Teachers College in Boston, Massachusetts, a MA Degree from Boston University and a Certificat d'Etudes from the Sorbonne, France. Mary was a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving from 1942 until 1947. She joined the Navy Reserve in 1947 and retired in 1963. Mary married Victor Buenzle on July 2, 1963 in Mt. View, California. She taught French in the Boston Public Schools for 27 years and in Los Altos, California for three years. In 1976 Mary and Victor moved to Douglas County. Mary was very involved in the Douglas County Historical Society and the Umpqua Gem and Mineral Club. Mary is survived by Victor Buenzle, her husband of 38 years, sister-in-laws Katherine Martin of Crowley, Texas and Amelia Balck of Gilroy, California, nieces Joan and husband Hal Whitlock of Gilroy, California and Diane and husband Stan Fidel of Turlock, California and nephew Bob and wife Molly Balck of Port Ludlow, Washington. Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, John Martin and Francis Martin. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to a charity of your choice. A Mass of Remembrance will be Monday, May 7, 2001, 12:00PM, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Father Cletus will officiate. Cremation rites have been held. OLSEN, Norma Elvida - Loving mother and wife, passed away April 30, 2001 in a local care center. She was born December 15, 1920 in Pocatello, Idaho. She married Keith Conrad Olsen on September 24, 1951 in Logan, Utah. She is survived by her husband Keith, and children Diana Redford of Salem, Oregon, Leo "Bud" Olsen of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Jan Christina Lougee of Sandy, Utah, Jeffrey David Olsen of Medical Lake, Washington, Jill Ann Taylor of Spanish Fork, Utah and Jerry OIsen of Spokane, Washington, 29 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. They have lived in the Roseburg and Myrtle Creek areas since 1956. Norma sacrificed all for her kids and family. She had a high regard for education and instilled a sense of well-being and confidence in each of them so that all her children finished college. She was a true inspiration to all around and always had a beautiful smile for all she met. As a youth she was a competitive swimmer and diver. She loved athletics and was an avid BYU Cougar, San Francisco 49er, and Phoenix Suns Fan. Her interests were painting, gardening, canning, homemaking and her family. She had a great interest in politics and supported the Republican Party locally and nationally. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in may leadership and teaching positions. She loved the Lord and her family. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 5, 2001 at 1:00PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Calkins Rd. Interment will be at Roseburg Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at noon on Saturday in the Relief Society room of the Church for viewing. HUBBARD, William Edward - Age 33, passed away on April 25, 2001. A resident of Clermont, Florida died of motor vehicle accident. He was born February 1, 1968 in San Jose, California. Bill came to Clermont in 1999 from Salem, Oregon. He worked as a painter. Bill was a member of 1st Christian Church of Clermont, Florida. He enjoyed his church activities and spending time with his family. In 1987 he married Dena Synder. Bill is survived by his wife Dena Hubbard of Clermont, Florida; son William E.
