William "Bill" Yaksic, 67, of Southwest, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at IHS at Mountain View, Unity Township. He was born at Southwest, Mt. Pleasant Township, Oct. 23, 1932, a son of the late John Sr. and Mary Manula Yaksic. He was a member of the Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Church of Youngwood. He was a graduate of the former Hurst High School and prior to retirement, was employed as a millwright for Westinghouse Airbrake (WABCO) at Wilmerding. Bill is survived by his brother, Michael Yaksic of Southwest; five sisters, Martha Yaksic and Elizabeth Yaksic, both of Southwest, Sophie Zagar and husband, Robert, of Greensburg, Mary Skerlec and husband, Roderick, of Ruffsdale, and Blanche Kabaci and husband, Steve, of Southwest; two nephews, Shawn Zagar and Rick Skerlec and four nieces, Sherry Stokes, Darleen Morelli, Lori Martin and Kimberly Kabaci; a great-niece, Holly Stokes; and several cousins. Bill was predeceased by five brothers, George, in 1982, Peter, in 1985, John Jr., in 1989, Joseph, in 1991, and Theodore, in 1993. Friends will be received in the JAY B. PETERSON FUNERAL HOME, Depot and North Fifth streets, Youngwood, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by funeral service at 10 a.m. at the Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Church, Youngwood, with the Very Rev. Father Adam Yonitch Jr. in charge of the service. Interment will follow in Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Cemetery, Youngwood. A Pomen will be sung in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. TIMOTHY W. BEALE
Timothy W. Beale, 32, of State College, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, in Centre Community Hospital, State College. He was born March 20, 1967, in Meadville, a son of John Beale of Boston, Mass., and Linda Bowden Ailes of Pittsburgh. He is survived by his wife, Amy E. Metz Beale, of State College, whom he married Oct. 25, 1997; and a brother, Jonathan Beale, of Minneapolis, Minn. Mr. Beale was a 1985 graduate of Franklin Regional High School, Murrysville, and attended Penn State University. He was the manager of Chili's Bar and Grille in State College. He was a member of the Delta Delta Chapter of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. Visitation private at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 8, 2000, at 1 p.m. in the Towson United Methodist Church, 501 Hampton Lane, Towson, Md., with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Rettenmayer and the Rev. Richard B. "Bucky" Lann, 72, of Paintertown, died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, in Jeannette. He was born Aug. 28, 1927, in Emigh Run, a son of the late Francis Bernard and Mary Susan Novosat Lann. He was a pattern maker at Fisher Body. He was a member of the Paintertown Evangelical Lutheran Church, a life member and former fire chief of the Paintertown V.F.D., a member of the L.O.O.M. of Irwin, the Trafford American Legion, and the Weeping Willow Club. He is survived by his wife, Nora (Townsley) Lann; a son, Richard C. Lann of White Oak; a daughter, M. Renee (Joseph) Volker of Irwin; two brothers, Francis John Lann of Greensburg and Claude Lann of Kecksburg; four sisters, Betty Lauffer of Norvelt, Dolores Mullen of Norvelt, Joyce Paar of Youngwood, and Mary Jane Hutchko of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren, James Berger, Jody Volker, Richard Lann and Ryan Lann; and three great-grandchildren. Donald R. McEvoy, 57, of Pittsburgh, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, in UPMC- Montefiore, Oakland. He was born Sept. 11, 1942, in Pittsburgh. He was a retired systems analyst for Westinghouse. He was a member of the North Hills Historic Auto Club and the Franklin Park Baptist Church, and was previously involved in the I.F.P.A.A. Girls Softball and N.A. Soccer Club. He is survived by his wife, Martha Shevlin McEvoy; two daughters, Michele L. McEvoy of Pittsburgh and Melissa A. McEvoy of Philadelphia; a brother, Robert J. McEvoy of Columbus, Ohio; and three sisters, Dorothy Cress of McCandless Township, Betty Garland of West View and Carol Sue McEvoy of McCandless. JOSEPH JOHN ROMANO
Joseph John Romano, 50, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., died unexpectedly Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at his home. He was born Nov. 10, 1949, in Philadelphia, the son of the late John Louis Romano and Carmella Giordano. He grew up in Stone Harbor, N.J., where he later owned and operated his own restaurant. He moved from Stone Harbor to Hilton Head Island, S.C., in 1981, and worked in the home building industry. For 10 years, he owned and operated Romano Construction Inc., a custom home company based on Hilton Head Island. Joe was active in the Home Builders Association and had served on its board of directors since 1997. He also served on the Spanish Wells Property Owners Association board of directors from 1997 to 1999, and was elected board secretary for the upcoming 1999-2000 term. He was a member of the Hilton Head Island Sport Fishing Club, the St. Francis Catholic Church, and was active in coaching Hilton Head Dixie Youth Baseball. He supported the Hilton Head High School Crew Team for six years with his daughters, transporting the team and its equipment to regattas. Joe was an avid boater and fisherman, and enjoyed photography. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Carol Jupena Romano, formerly of Greensburg; three children, Julia Eleanor Romano, a student at Johnson & Wales University, Rachael Carmella Romano, a junior at Hilton Head High School, and John Louis Romano, a student at Hilton Head Elementary School; a sister, Marie Calvitti of Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Caroline Romano, in 1987. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. in St. Francis By The Sea Catholic Church, Hilton Head Island, S.C. C. Doyle Steele, 78, of Apollo, died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at 3:39 p.m. in his winter home in Homosassa Springs, Fla. He was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Apollo, a son of the late Cyrus S. and Sarah Bowman Steele. He had lived in Apollo all of his life, and was an attorney, having operated his own law practice in Apollo from 1953 until the present. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II, and was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Apollo. He was a graduate of Temple University, Philadelphia, and was elected burgess of Apollo, where he served two consecutive terms from 1954 to 1961. He was one of four citizens from Apollo to serve in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1967 to 1971. As mayor of Apollo, he approved, along with the borough council, "The General Plan" which redeveloped the Apollo downtown area, also resulting in the present Apollo Plaza. He served on the Septiquin Centennial Celebration Committee in 1991. He was a member of the former Apollo Chamber of Commerce; a former member of the Strongland Chamber of Commerce; and was a member of the Elks, Masons, and Lions, all in Apollo. He was past treasurer of the Armstrong County Democratic Committee and an honorary member of the Apollo Fire Department. He was admitted to practice in both the Superior and Supreme courts. He was a judge for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. He was a solicitor for the Kiski Township Water Authority, and was a solicitor for the former Apollo Ridge School Authority. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dianne Knepshield Steele; a sister, Margaret K. Ament of Apollo; two brothers, Boyd K. Steele of Oklahoma Borough and John B. Steele of Springfield, Pa.; and a family friend, R. Bruce Williamson of Sewickley. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday from 2 to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the GERALD J. MEDICE FUNERAL HOME, 604 Moore Ave., North Apollo. Dorothy Winifred (Carson) Bracken, 83, of Dayton RD2, Cowanshannock Township, died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, at Indiana Hospital, Indiana, Pa. She was born May 9, 1916, in Cowanshannock Township, the daughter of the late James Wendell and Mary Jane (McLaughlin) Carson. She was a school teacher for North Versailles Township, Allegheny County. She was a member of Rural Valley Presbyterian Church and church elder, a member of Presbyterian Women, the former BPW, and a former choir member. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Leroy Bracken, on April 4, 1986. Survived by a son and three daughters, James A. Bracken of Candler, N.C., L. Gail Bracken of Monroeville, Pamela S. Hardgrove of Haddonfield, N.J., and Sondra E. Schutz of Chambersburg; and five grandchildren, Amy, Laura, Seth, Sarah and Steven. Dorothy (Petrovich) Bossar, 91, formerly of Wall, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, in John J. Kane Regional Center, Scott Township. She was born Sept. 4, 1908, in Wilmerding, a daughter of the late Marko and Anna (Muslin) Petrovich. She was a member of St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church in Monroeville and the St. Peka Kolo Circle of Serbian Sisters. She was a member of Serbian National Federation Lodge #7 and was a former member of the Wall Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Miller Bossar; a daughter, Melana Ann "Pinky" Bossar; two brothers, Paul and Michael Petrovich; and four sisters, Stella "Stana" Wracar, Violet Tankosich, Mary Kecman and Diane Covert. She is survived by a daughter, Geri Maravich and her husband, Eliot, of Mt. Lebanon; a grandson, Craig Maravich; and numerous nieces and nephews.
