Lohn B. Cline, 83, of Robinson, Pa., died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Dec. 19, 1916, in Bolivar, a son of the late Harvey G. and Sara (George) Cline. Prior to his retirement in 1979, he worked for the United School District as maintenance supervisor for 27 years. Lohn was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Robinson, the American Legion Post #128, the VFW Post #9310 and the Tubmill Trout Club, and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Erma R. (Bredlinger) Cline; two daughters, Mrs. Penny Corvi of Feneltown, Pa., and Mrs. Paul (Vicki) Mundorff of Bolivar; three sons, Lohn (and his wife, Darlene) Cline of Reisterstown, Md., Richard (and his wife, Mickie) Cline of Latrobe, and William (and his wife, JoEllen Bruno) Cline of Latrobe; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Anthony (Nona) Baratta of Columbus, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandchildren, Casey Cline and Paul Mundorff; sisters, Evelyn Shoup, Georgia Young, Sara Warfel, and Dorothy Stewart; a brother, John Cline; and a son-in-law, Joseph Corvi. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the J. PAUL McCRACKEN FUNERAL HOME, 536 Market St., Bolivar. Service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. MARGARET SAGER JAMES
Margaret Sager James, 89, a resident of the Homewood Retirement Center, Frederick, Md., died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Carroll Staley James. They were married Sept. 1, 1934. She was born July 26, 1910, in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Elmer Rohrer and Edith M. Harman Sager. A graduate of Frederick High School in 1928, she received her bachelor's degree in 1932 from Hood College. Mrs. James was employed as a social worker with the Baltimore Emergency Relief Association, the Frederick County Welfare Board, and the Washington County Welfare Board. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and former member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensburg, the Greensburg College Club and the Greensburg AAUW. Surviving her, besides her husband, are a daughter, Martha J. Nichols of Jarrettsville, Md.; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth M. Duke of Chevy Chase, Md.; four grandchildren, Christine Guelcher, Lauren Jones, Douglas Nichols, and Ryan Nichols; and a great-granddaughter, Megan Guelcher. She was preceded in death by a son, Carroll S. James Jr.; a brother, Jack Sager; and a sister, Elizabeth S. Miller. The family will receive friends Sunday, Dec. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the KEENEY AND BASFORD FUNERAL HOME, 106 E. Church St., Frederick, Md. Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Robert E. Manthey, pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. JOHN F. BETZ
John F. "Jack" Betz, of Perryopolis, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at 1 p.m., in Jefferson Hospital. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, a son of the late John F. and Madaline McCoy Betz. Jack was the original owner and operator of Jack's Shop & Save of Perryopolis for 23 years, and owner of Eagle's Landing Restaurant at Rostraver Airport, Belle Vernon. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #4427, VFW Gold Star Post #7023, Heritage Society, and past president of the St. John's Holy Name Society, all of Perryopolis. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. Jack was also a member of Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Rostraver Squadron Civil Air Patrol, a board member of the Experimental Aircraft Association of Rostraver, Piper Cub Association of Lock Haven, Pa., Stearman Restoration Association of Illinois, War Birds of America, and past chairman of Pennsylvania Food Pac Association. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Stolick Betz; a brother, Daniel Betz and wife, Kay, of Treasure Island, Fla.; partner and best friend, Luke Globosky of Perryopolis; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marie M. Betz, on Aug. 29, 1996. Friends will be received in the BLAIR-LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME INC., 106 E. Independence St., Perryopolis, Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday from 1 to 9 p.m., where a prayer service will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Perryopolis, with the Rev. Father John T. Euker as celebrant. Interment Mt. Washington Cemetery, Perryopolis. Knights of Columbus 4th Degree members will conduct a service Sunday evening at 7:30. Edward Joseph Brennan, 82, of North Versailles, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999. A son of the late Owen and Bridget (Patterson) Brennan. Husband of the late Marie (Sable) Brennan. Beloved father of Edward R. Brennan and Kathleen (Thomas "Tim") Hurney. Grandfather of Keri and Jamie Brennan, and Timothy and Kaitlin Hurney. Brother of Earl "Boots" Brennan, Kathleen Williams, Marilyn O'Connor and the late William, Peg, and Paul Brennan, Anna Jane Puz, Pauline Hart, and Magdeline Farbaugh. Also survived by nieces and nephews. AGNES B. GRIGER
Agnes B. Griger, 78, formerly of Donora, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, in Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg. She was born in Clairton, July 21, 1921, a daughter of the late Andrew and Julia Dubnyanski Bershak. She was a former secretary at the U.S. Steel Corp., Clairton Works. She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Church, Donora. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Griger; four sisters; and two brothers. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerome E. and Nancy M. Griger of Monessen and John M. and Penny Griger of Meadville; two brothers, Peter Birchok of Wilson, Pa., and William Bershak of Willingboro, N.J.; five grandchildren, Michele, Christopher, Kevin, Kimberly and Tyler Griger; and numerous nieces and nephews. MITCHELL P. JOHN
Mitchell P. John, 75, of Uniontown, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Sept. 28, 1924, in Uniontown, a son of the late Frank A. and Fannie (Joseph) John. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (Neville) John; a son, Mitchell P. John Jr.; a brother, Joseph F. John; and sisters, Elizabeth "Nan" Yespak and Isabelle John. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church; was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division, stationed in Japan; and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1275, B.P.O. Elks #370 of Uniontown, AMVETS Post 103 Hopwood, and the VFW Post 47 of Uniontown. He is survived by four children, Michelle Macy and husband, James, of San Diego, Calif., Robert Keith John of the state of California, Richard J. John and wife, Margie, of San Diego, Calif., and Joyce A. John and fiancee, Michael A. Cronin, of Uniontown; six grandchildren, Christopher J. Macy, Mitchell J. John, Michael J. Bodis III, Jordan T. Thomas, Kristopher M. John, and Brooke I. John; and the following brothers and sister: Francis A. "Frenchy" John, Franklin A. John, and Josephine M. John, all of Uniontown. LOUISE MILLER
Louise Miller, 92, of Laurelville, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at the Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Louise was born Oct. 10, 1907, in Mt. Pleasant, a daughter of the late Daniel F. and Nellie Grubb Weaver. She was a graduate of the Mt. Pleasant High School and was a member of the United Methodist Church. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a secretary for the L.E. Smith Glass Factory of Mt. Pleasant. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph C. Miller, in 1971; and a sister, Florence Henry. She is survived by a niece, "Boo" McRoberts of Kansas City, Mo.; and her friends, Joseph and Kathleen Dodd of Laurelville, with whom she made her home. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Richard W. Shields officiating. GRACE (MURDOCH) SQUIRE
Grace (Murdoch) Squire, of Plum Borough, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at age 53, after a valiant fight against diabetes. Beloved wife of Frank Dale Squire Jr. Mother of Kevin Dale Squire and Gregory Paul Squire. Daughter of N. Edna Murdoch and the late Armor M. Murdoch. Sister of David A. Murdoch and Mark J. Murdoch. Grandmother of Ariel Nicole Squire. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Grace was employed by Presbyterian Senior Care in Oakmont and was active in the Plum Creek Presbyterian Church, where she served as president of the Women's Association and as a Sunday school superintendent. She was a 1963 graduate of Wilkinsburg High School. Friends received at the WILLIAM F. RICHARD HARVEY BECKLEY
Richard Harvey Beckley, 71, of Brighton Township, died Christmas evening, Dec. 25, 1999, at the Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, South Beaver Township, following an extended illness. Born March 18, 1928, in Latrobe, a son of the late David E. and Catherine Fleming Beckley. He had been a resident of the Beaver area since 1956. He retired in 1987 as a food salesman, having worked throughout western Pennsylvania and the Tri-State area. He was a member of Park Presbyterian Church, Beaver, where he served as elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher; a 1946 graduate of Greensburg High School; a former member of the Brighton Township Lions Club; and past president of the Upper Beaver Valley Jaycees; past president of Toastmasters International, Beaver; a former board member of Help-A-Person for 20 years; and was formerly active with the United Way. He was a devoted husband of 51 years to Evelyn Davis Beckley; and a loving father to two daughters and sons-in-law, Alison and Robert Lutton of Philadelphia and Lisa and Terry Anderson of Ohioville. He is also survived by a special cousin, Eleanor Rae Shuey of Chippewa; an aunt, Alison Dooley of New York; and many relatives and friends. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the NOLL FUNERAL HOME, 333 Third St., Beaver.
