JAMES L. WALKER
James L. Walker, 79, of Van Meter Road, Rostraver Township, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. He was born July 13, 1920, in Rostraver Township, a son of the late Charles Franklin and Eliza Jane Morris Walker. He was a retired coal miner, having last worked at the Mathews Mine in Bentleyville. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the infantry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Walker; two brothers, Edmond and John Aston; and four sisters, Evelyn Shuett, Ethel Chaney, Lenora Yard and Edna Homer. He is survived by a brother, Samuel Walker of Newell; a nephew, Charles Walker, whom he raised; a stepson and stepdaughter, whom he favored, Dennis and Dorthea Kelley; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the L.L. BARTHELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Second Street, Smithton. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Herman Frohnhofer officiating. Interment will be in the Olive Branch Cemetery, Rostraver Township.
WILLIAM J. WHITESELL
William J. Whitesell, 79, of White Township, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Oct. 21, 1920, in Bell Township, a son of the late Fulton and Mayme Cramer Whitesell. He had lived in the Saltsburg area until moving to White Township in 1993. He retired in 1983 from Westinghouse Air Brake in Wilmerding. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving as a tail gunner on a B-26 and a radio operator during World War II in the European Theater. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Avonmore, and a 50-year member of the American Legion Post #57 of Saltsburg; and a 1938 graduate of Bell Township High School. Preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jane Coulter; and two brothers, Thomas and Donald Whitesell. Survived by his wife of 56 ½ years, Marjorie Bowman Whitesell; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the CURRAN FUNERAL HOME, 701 Salt St. in Saltsburg. Services from the funeral home Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Baker officiating. Interment Edgewood Cemetery, Saltsburg. Memorial contributions to the First Presbyterian Church, Avonmore, Pa., or a charity of one's choice.
DONALD E. ASPEY
Donald E. Aspey, 97, a former resident of the Hopwood and Uniontown area, passed away Wednesday evening, Dec. 29, 1999, in Means Rest Home, Dunbar Township. Donald was born in East Huntingdon Township, Nov. 12, 1902, a son of the late David and Laura Weaver Aspey. Donald was a retired carpenter and a veteran of World War II, serving as a private in the U.S. Army's Company M, 155th Infantry. Donald is survived by his nephew, Harry G. Aspey and his wife, Jean Ann, of Aliquippa. In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Moon Aspey, in 1951; a brother, Harry G. Aspey, on Sept. 15, 1982; and an infant brother. Family and friends will be received at the ROBERT B. Jack W. Lewis Sr., 64, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly of Pennsylvania, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, in Council Bluffs. Born in Slovan, Pa., he had been employed as a construction laborer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Scear Lewis. Survivors include five sons, Jack W. Lewis Jr. of Westminster, Md., Rick Lewis of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Jerry Lewis of Pittsburgh, Terry Lewis of Council Bluffs and Steven Lewis of Las Vegas, Nev.; three daughters, Sherry Brown of Noblestown, Pa., Debbie Hammermeister of Council Bluffs and Cindy Hammermeister of Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Chuck Lewis of Carnegie; and 15 grandchildren. WILLIAM D. MARTZ
William D. Martz, 75, of Connellsville, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, in the Specht Personal Care Home in Connellsville. Born Oct. 24, 1924, in Scottdale, the son of the late Roy C. and Edna Dull Martz. He was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, General Worth Lodge #386. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Margaret E. Martz. He is survived by an aunt, Mabel Martz Smail, and a cousin, Ruth Ann Johnson, both of Scottdale. Friends will be received at the LUTHER J. GRIMM FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Pleasant, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Monday, Jan. 3, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. BETTY J. RAUSCH
Betty J. Rausch, 72, formerly of Connellsville, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, in the Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late George E. and Stella Roahleder Buehler. Betty had been a resident of Connellsville since 1976, and was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Connellsville. She was also a former member of the Bullskin Township Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by three sons, Larry G. Rausch and his wife, Connie, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Edward J. Rausch II and his wife, Mary Ann, of Scottdale and James E. Rausch and his wife, Rose, also of Scottdale; four daughters, Linda Keffer of Connellsville, Janet Gerke and her husband, Wayne, of Cleveland, Ohio, Nancy Patterson and her husband, Brian, of Derry and Betty Lou Rausch of Wheeling, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a half sister, Mae Buehler; and a half brother, G. Albert Buehler. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Private funeral services will be held for the family at their convenience with the Rev. Hans Andrae officiating. Interment will be in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. Arrangements are under the direction of the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville.
ELEANOR MUSSER HILL RODGERS
Eleanor Musser Hill Rodgers, beloved wife of the late David G. Hill, and more recently of the late James J. Rodgers, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at the age of 94. Daughter of the late Mary Ann and John Howard Musser of State College, Mrs. Rodgers was a longtime resident of Fox Chapel and of the East End before moving to Longwood at Oakmont, where she was recently well-cared for in the nursing facility. She will be remembered by many as an accomplished pianist at family and social gatherings, at Third Presbyterian Church and at the Ross Mountain Club, as well as for her holiday carol playing at numerous long-term health care facilities with her sister-in-law, Mary Hill McCune. In addition to her service with many cultural, social service and charitable organizations, she was an enthusiastic supporter of the Pittsburgh Opera and Symphony, and a longtime member of the Fox Chapel and Linden Garden Clubs, the Fox Chapel Golf Club, the Twentieth Century Club, the Duquesne Club and Rolling Rock Club. Mrs. Rodgers, "Muv, " as she was affectionately known by her family, is survived by two sons, William F. III of Fox Chapel and John H. of Pittsburgh; Bill's wife, Dorothy Sample Hill; a stepdaughter, Joan Rodgers; a stepson, James J. Rodgers Jr.; three grandchildren, David G. Hill II of Burlington, Vt., Paul S. Hill of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Catherine Hill Jahrling of Lincoln, Mass.; and also survived by eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, 384 Fox Chapel Road. The family will receive friends in the atrium of the church following the service. Burial at Homewood Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pittsburgh Symphony Society, the Pittsburgh Opera or Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church.

C. Adrian "Bucky" Buckley, 60, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999. He was born Aug. 3, 1939, in Ohio, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Buckley. He is survived by his wife, Jean Youngstead Buckley; two daughters, Terri Engle and her husband, John, of North Carolina and Sherri Hughes and her husband, Howard, of Las Vegas, Nev.; a son, Tom Buckley of Las Vegas; and two grandsons, Wesley and Zachary Engle. Also surviving are a sister, Janet Lowry of Las Vegas; three brothers, Charlie, Ronnie and Dana Buckley, all of Las Vegas; a brother-in-law, Robert Youngstead of Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Kay Hixson of Adamsburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Thursday, Dec. 23, at the Bunker Chapel, BUNKER MORTUARY, Las Vegas, Nev.
