Robert L. Butts, 60, of Connellsville, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at home comforted by his family. He was born July 5, 1939, in Connellsville, a son of Edgar and the late Margaret (Gerke) Butts. He was a graduate of Connellsville High School Class of 1957. Robert was the owner of Butts Service Station in Scottdale for over 27 years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Smith) Butts; five children, Mrs. Cherie Shinsky and husband, David, of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Marcia White and husband, Jeffrey, of Warren, Pa., Ms. Sandy Eckels of Latrobe, Mr. Robert L. Butts Jr. and Mr. John Butts, both of Connellsville; two grandsons, John Robert White and Christopher Jeffrey White; two brothers, Earl Butts of Warren, Ohio, and Kenneth Butts of Scottdale. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME INC., 418 N. Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, where a blessing service will be held Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 1 p.m. in Holy Trinity R.C. Church with the Rev. Father Benjamin Babula as celebrant. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity R.C. Cemetery, Connellsville.
CATHERINE F. FRIEND
Catherine F. Friend, 76, of Breakneck Road, Connellsville, passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Highlands Hospital, Connellsville. She was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Acme, the daughter of the late Charles and Maggie A. Slonecker of Westmoreland County. She was a former member of the Donegal Lutheran Church. She is survived by two sons, Larry J. Friend of South Connellsville and Daniel R. Friend of Scottdale; three daughters, Marianne Smiley and Dorothy K. McKinney, both of New Mexico, and Sandra Friend of McHenry, Md.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Charles L. Slonecker Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Kenneth D. Slonecker of Connellsville, and Elmer W. Slonecker of Mt. Pleasant. She was predeceased by her husband, Homer J. Friend, in 1999. At the request of the family, there will be no visitation or viewing. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 S. First St., West Side, Connellsville, with the Rev. Terry Upton officiating.

Elizabeth "Libby" Nesser John, 82, of Uniontown, passed away Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000. Surviving are children, Attorney Simon B. John and wife, Sharon, of Uniontown, Mark John and wife, Joyce, of Uniontown, Sadie John Kroeck and husband, John, of Pittsburgh, and Attorney Anne John McDyer and husband, Dan, of Pittsburgh; sisters, Elaine Nesser and Helen DuFour of Pittsburgh; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Friends will be received in the STEPHEN E. KEZMARSKY III FUNERAL HOME at 71 Pennsylvania Ave., Uniontown, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Jan. 4, in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Uniontown, at 9:30 a.m. Interment follows in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown.

JOHN R. SARTAIN
John R. Sartain, 93, of Monroeville, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in Forbes Regional Health Center, Monroeville. He was born July 22, 1906, in Port Royal, Pa., a son of the late James C. and Ella M. Robison Sartain. Prior to his retirement, he was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Turtle Creek. He was a member of the Rose Crest Evangelical Lutheran Church in Monroeville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Richardson Sartain, in 1995; a daughter, Jean Lenore Pelkey; and a sister, Mary Mullins. Survived by a son, Robert P. and wife, Mary Lou Sartain, of Harrison City; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the JAMES E. Doris C. Silvis, 74, of Streamwood, Ill., died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, in Pineview Nursing Home, St. Charles, Ill. She was born Feb. 7, 1925, in Sinnemahoning, Pa., the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Weed. She was a resident of Streamwood, Ill., and had worked at Hoffer Plastics for many years, prior to retirement. She is survived by her daughter, Jacquelyn Kirkpatrick of Streamwood; and three grandchildren, Mary Beth (Jorge) Ruiz, Samuel and Sarah Kirkpatrick. Friends will be received Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets, New Alexandria. There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.

Frank Yanosky, 87, of Buena Vista, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born July 25, 1912, in Etna RD2, the son of the late Frank and Bertha Schmonduk Yanosky. He was a retired coal miner from Pittsburgh Consolidation Coal Co. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sophie Lancusky Yanosky; a daughter, Clara Altman; three brothers, Mike, Joseph and Charles Yanosky; and a sister, Josephine Sorby. He is survived by two daughters and two sons, Patricia Dahlstrom of McKees Rocks, Faith Taylor and husband, Grover, of Buena Vista, Steve Yanosky of Baldwin and Frank Yanosky and wife, Theresa, of West Newton; a brother, John Yanosky of Cresson; and four sisters, Mary Peters of Allison Park, Pauline Dhans of Florida, Bertha Karendale of Ohio and Agnes Brown of Sturgeon; 12 grandchildren; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren. CARL D. ACKERMAN
Carl D. Ackerman, 81, of Gibsonia, Richland Township, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Pittsburgh. Born Nov. 17, 1918, in Edwardsville, Ill., he was a son of the late Anton and Luise Harmening Ackerman. Mr. Ackerman is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Doris Fiedler Ackerman. Also survived by a son, David Ackerman of Gibsonia and his wife, Judy (Thomas); a sister, Eva Theuer of Grand Junction, Colo.; a brother, William Ackerman of West Chester, Pa.; and two grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ackerman was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Ackerman. Friends received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME LTD., 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown, Pa. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. John Campbell of the Cross Roads Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will be held in the Bakerstown Cemetery. Mr. Ackerman was a retired chemical engineer P.E. of Gulf Oil Corp., a graduate of the University of Illinois in 1942 with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, past vice president of the Gulf Research Retirees Association, member of the Instrument Society of America, an Elder at the Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, Boy Scout and leader of the Boy Scouts for 25 years, and a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association.

WILLIAM G. HENRY
William G. Henry, 78, of Friedens, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000. He was born Aug. 4, 1921, in McKeesport, a son of the late Charles B. and Kathryn (Wood) Henry. He was a craneman for Westinghouse, East Pittsburgh. He was a former member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, North Huntingdon, and a World War II Army veteran. He is survived by his wife, Cora B. (Patterson) Henry; two sons, David C. and wife, Becky Henry, of Friedens and Glenn W. Henry of Erie; a brother, Russell Henry of Gainesville, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Vaughan, Meagan Henry, and Adam Henry. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the VINCENT V. RODGERS FUNERAL HOME, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin. Interment will be private in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
