Shirley A. (Theakston) Dolan, 68, of Henry Street, Belle Vernon, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in the Mon Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. A daughter of the late David and Helen Gingery Theakston, she was born May 16, 1931, in Belle Vernon. A Protestant by faith, she was a lifelong resident of Belle Vernon. Mrs. Dolan had worked for 10 years for the Hello Shop in Tri-County Plaza and retired in June 1999. Survivors include her husband of 39 ½ years, D. Kenneth Dolan; a son and daughter-in-law, Marc W. and Jean Karlick Dolan of Cranberry Township; and a sister, Joyce Theakston of Belle Vernon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Theakston, in 1989. Friends will be received in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home Wednesday at noon.
WAYNE V. LIND
Wayne V. Lind, 67, of Rockwood, formerly of Pittsburgh, passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Somerset Hospital. Born Jan. 29, 1932, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of Vernon and Virginia (Clark) Lind. Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Virginia Lind. Survived by his wife, Carole (Kumza) Lind; daughter, Jessica Lind of Ithaca, N.Y.; son, David Lind of Atlanta, Ga.; and brother, Jack Lind of Evans City. Veteran of the U.S. Army. Graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. He was the founder and managing partner of Hinds, Lind & Miller C.P.A. firm in Pittsburgh. Member of the National Association of Securities Dealers Board of Arbitrators, the American Arbitration Association Board of Arbitrators, and the Pennsylvania and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was an avid skier and enjoyed traveling and boating. There will be no visitation and a private service will be held at the MILLER FUNERAL HOME, Somerset. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be sent to a charity of choice.
MARGARET NOVAK
Margaret Novak, 90, of North Cottage Avenue, Connellsville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in Highlands Hospital, Connellsville. Born Nov. 19, 1909, in Luzerne, Pa., she was a daughter of the late George and Anna O'Haro Malia. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Mollie) Anderson and Mrs. David (Margaret) Gensimore, both of Rotonda West, Fla., and Mrs. Lewis (Alice) Ferencuha of South Connellsville. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Charles P. Miller Jr., Tammy Miller Wiegand, Patrick M. Miller, Marianne Koch, David P. Gensimore Jr., Jon Ferencuha and Robert Ferencuha; eight great-grandchildren, Joshua and Zachary Miller, Austin Wiegand, Trenton and Brent Hunter, Aleina Wiegand, Beau Miller and Jonathan Koch; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony J. Novak, on July 31, 1996; a son, Anthony Novak, in 1936; brothers, John, George, Francis, Charles and Thomas; and two sisters, Mary Daughty and Helen Galasso. Friends are being received at the RICHARD KUCERA FUNERAL HOME, 127 E. Fairview Ave., Connellsville, Sunday 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Blessing service will be held in the funeral home Tuesday at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception R.C. Church with Father Michael Sciberras as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Parish vigil will be said Monday in the funeral home at 2 p.m.
LORENE LAMAR SHANNON
Lorene Lamar Shannon, R.A., died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000. She was born June 20, 1933, in Memphis, Tenn. Lorene attended Central High School in Omaha and graduated in 1950. She attended the University of Omaha, graduated in 1955 with a BFA in sculpture, and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. In New York, she graduated from Cooper Union in 1962 with a Certificate of Architecture. While in New York, she worked for Livingstone H. Elder, AIA, and had a private design practice. In Pittsburgh she graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 1964 with a B.A. in architecture. Her architectural practice for private clients was conducted from her home, a unique custom-designed office/residence, built on an "impossible" plot, evoking thoughts of Frank Lloyd Wright's "Falling Waters, " to demonstrate her special skills. She worked for a number of professional architects and contractors in the Pittsburgh area. She is survived by her aunts, Rose Meadors and Margaret Shannon, and several cousins. Her parents were Asa Vance Shannon and Lorene Lamar Shannon, both deceased. There will be no funeral service. A memorial service will be held in May in Pittsburgh. Laura G. Suchko, 78, of Elizabeth Township, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000. She was born Dec. 31, 1921, in Glassport, a daughter of the late Adam and Mary Zaurski. She was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in McKeesport. She is survived by her husband, John Suchko; a son, Adam J. Suchko of Indianapolis, Ind.; a grandson, Alexander John Suchko; four sisters, Clara Stasko and Sue Magdic, both of Port Vue, Jean Mackowick of Elizabeth Township and Blanche Derewonko of Glassport; three brothers, Steve Zaurski of Elyria, Ohio, Edward of Port Vue and Stanley of Elizabeth Township; and nieces and nephews. Friends are being received at the DANIEL F. Sister of Mary Rixner, Robert Travers and Raymond Travers. Grandmother of Ryan and Stephanie Wachter. Daughter-in-law of Mrs. Jean Wachter. Mother-in-law of Cathy and Katherine. ANTHONY ROSS
Anthony "Murphy" Ross, 69, of James Creek, Pa., died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at his home. Born Oct. 15, 1930, in Pitcairn, he was a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Berardi) Ross. On Oct. 24, 1986, he was united in marriage with Nancy J. Holby in Pitcairn. Surviving are three sisters, Emily Wagner of Murrysville, Gloria Rock of Largo, Fla., and Jeanne Rosemark of Lorain, Ohio. One brother survives, R.J. "Leonard" Ross of Greensburg. A sister, Theresa Porrey, and a niece, Gloria Ross, preceded him in death. During his life, he enjoyed building things, gardening, hunting and fishing. Mr. Ross was a member of the Saxton VFW Post 4129, Watson and Black American Legion Post 126 and the Association of Minemen. Mr. Ross was in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 working in mine warfare during the Korean conflict. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the WM. O. Helen J. Hebda Baluch, 83, of Brown Street, Everson, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born Sept. 30, 1916, in Everson, a daughter of the late Anthony and Katherine Pogwizd Hebda. Helen was a lifetime and faithful member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Everson, and also periodically attended St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale. Helen leaves to cherish her memories, two brothers, Joseph F. Hebda of Triangle, Va., and Ladislaus "Duke" Hebda and his wife, Bernice (McGivern), of Scottdale; her devoted and caring sisters and brother-in-law, Cecilia R. Flanagan of Scottdale and Dorothy J. Taxacher and her husband, Robert, with whom she resided during her illness; a sister-in-law, Mary Hampshire Hebda of Everson; her loving nieces and nephews, Robert M. Taxacher and his wife, Jennifer, of Scottdale, Kathleen Delara of Everson, Thomas Taxacher and his wife, Alisia, of Mt. Pleasant, Mary Lou Altman and her husband, Thomas, of Irwin, JoAnn Hebda of Mt. Pleasant, Janet Powell and her husband, Robert, of Everson, and Larry Hebda of Mt. Pleasant; and 15 great-nieces and -nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Baluch, who died Dec. 1, 1972; two brothers, Leo E. "Echo" Hebda, who died Dec. 28, 1996, and Louis F. Hebda, who died Oct. 31, 1998; and two sisters, Mary Czerniak and Julia Hebda, in infancy. Helen's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. John J. Bernadowski Sr., 89, a former Elizabeth and Scenery Heights Personal Care Home resident, of North Huntingdon, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, in Jefferson Center Hospital. Born Aug. 15, 1910, in McKeesport, a son of the late Stanley and Theresa (Zawislak) Bernadowski. He was a retired custodian with the Elizabeth Forward School District. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European theater of operations and was a member of the VFW Post #7632 of Blaine Hill. Husband of the late Sophia Protz Bernadowski. Survivors include two sons, John J. Bernadowski Jr. of North Huntingdon and Ronald Lee Bernadowski of Manassas, Va.; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Joseph Bernadowski of Sutersville; and nieces and nephews.
