Howard H. Haskins, 83, on Monday, Jan. 24, 2000. Beloved husband of the late Helen E. Haskins (nee Seed), devoted father of Howard H. Haskins III of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mary L. Haskins of Elyria, Ohio; loving grandfather of Howard H. Haskins IV, Matthew P. Haskins, Patrick B. Haskins and Quentin B. Haskins, all of Cincinnati, and Andrew C. Haskins of Burbank, Calif.; great-grandfather of eight; dear brother of the late Thomas F. Haskins. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall at Judson Village Retirement Community, 2373 Harrison Ave., Westwood, Ohio. ERNEST R. IMEL
Ernest R. Imel, 87, of Indian Head, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in Eicher's Family Home, Normalville. He was born Sept. 14, 1912, in Indian Head, a son of the late Jacob Henry and Ida Blanche Prinkey Imel. He was a resident of Indian Head for most of his life, and had resided in Scottdale for several years. He was a former employee of the Neal Pritts Construction Co., and was also a farmer and timberman. He was a member of the Indian Head Church of God and formerly attended the Center Bethel Church of God, Alverton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Stairs Imel. He is survived by a son, Elwood E. Imel and his wife, Linda, of Normalville; a daughter, Evangeline Sleasman and her husband, Carl E., of Indian Head; six grandchildren, Eric R. Imel and his wife, Brenda, Steve E. Imel and his wife, Kelley, Layne Crandle and her husband, William, April Linnell and her husband, John, Hope Sleasman, and Brent Sleasman and his wife, Julie; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edna Mae Felgar of Normalville. Friends will be received in the CLYDE BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 711, Melcroft, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Arndt officiating. Interment will follow in the Normalville Cemetery.

Mischa Nieland, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000. Beloved husband of Stella Nieland. Beloved father of Michael L. PATRICK L. O'CONNOR
Patrick L. O'Connor, 93, of Forest Hills, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000. He was a former employee of Westinghouse, East Pittsburgh Plant, and was an officer and president of Local #601 of the International Union of Electrical Workers during the 1940's and 1950's. He then became the superintendent of the Squirrel Hill, Fort Pitt, and Liberty Tunnels. At age 72, he retired from state government service as an electrical inspector for the General Service Administration. He was a member of the A.O.H. since 1912, most recently with Division 17 in Monroeville. Husband of the late Mae C. (Carrick) O'Connor. Father of Brian and his wife, Lorraine, of Baldwin, Patrick and his wife, Susan, of Chalfant, and the late Mary Joan Baverso and her husband, Tony, of Baldwin and the late Robert K. CORNELIUS Y. VEENIS
Cornelius Y. Veenis, M.D., 77, a resident of St. Barnabas Retirement Village, Gibsonia (formerly of Fox Chapel), died Monday morning, Jan. 24, 2000, in UPMC Passavant, McCandless. He was born July 4, 1922, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Cornelius and Lillian O'Brien Veenis. He was an opthalmologist who had practices in Oakland and North Hills from 1955 to 1987. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Fox Chapel Episcopal Church. Professional memberships included the Allegheny County Medical Society, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Board of Ophthalmology (fellow) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He was also a former member of the Pittsburgh Field Club and the University Club. He attended the University of Pittsburgh as an undergraduate and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1945. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Veenis. He is survived by four sons, Cornelius Y. "Neil" Veenis of Baltimore, Md., J. Mark Veenis of O'Hara Township, Christopher R. Veenis of Harmar Township and R. Jay Veenis of Massanutten, Va.; and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Fox Chapel Episcopal Church, 630 Squaw Run Road East, followed by a reception in the church parlor. George Vurgich Sr., 90, formerly of Aliquippa, on Monday, Jan. 24, 2000. Beloved husband of the late Louise (Karamarkovich). Beloved father of George and Lee Vurgich, Ralph and Sherry Vurgich, and Dolores and Richard Vignovich. Beloved brother of the late Violet Sareliga. Beloved grandfather (Jedo) of Shelley Vignovich Prisuta, Ralph, Alisa, and Greg Vurgich; also survived by three great-grandchildren. ELEANOR H. ARROTT
Eleanor H. "Norrie" Arrott, 78, formerly of Sewickley, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Glendora Health Care Center in Wooster, Ohio, following a long period of declining health. She was born in Pittsburgh, Dec. 3, 1921, to John Wilson Wishart and Eva Jane (White) Hallock, and married Robert Findley Arrott on Jan. 24, 1953. He died in August 1995. She received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1943 and was employed as an executive secretary for the Gulf Oil Corporation until 1953. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Sewickley and the Pittsburgh Chapter of P.E.O. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Elisabeth Arrott and Richard D. Johnson, and grandsons, David and Christopher, all of Wooster, Ohio; and dear friends, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reed McCutcheon of the Fox Chapel area and Diane Fessler of Freedom. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Janet T. More. A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Sewickley, Thursday, March 23, at 11 a.m. The family will greet friends one-half hour prior to the service. Private interment

Christopher Emanuel Glenn, infant son of Skip and Lisa Scurci Glenn, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, in Brooklyn, N.Y. In addition to his parents, he is also survived by his grandparents, Frank and Lucille Scurci of Jeannette. Services were held in Brooklyn, N.Y.
RUTH ANN GORDON
Ruth Ann Gordon, 75, of Dawson RD1 (Lower Tyrone Township), passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 25, 2000, at her home, following a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 4, 1925, at Turtle Creek in Allegheny County, a daughter of the late Bernhard Engle and Anna McDevitt Gillespie Engle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two half brothers. Ruth is survived by her husband of 54 years, G.W. "Bill" Gordon. They were married in Washington, D.C., on May 29, 1946. Ruth was a member of the Scottdale High School Class of 1942 and attended George Washington University. She and her husband were active farmers in Lower Tyrone Township and she was the first and only female director of Farmers Cooperative Dairy. Ruth was a life member of National Grange and served as master of Dawson Grange, secretary of Fayette Pomona, and served as youth chairman of the PA State Grange. Following World War II, she was active in helping to organize a grass roots movement of an international peace organization called Farmers and World Affairs. For her work with this organization, she was chosen to attend and observe the United Nations Security Council in session in New York City, N.Y. Ruth actively supported many youth and religious organizations, and considered herself a friend of Tyrone Presbyterian Church. She was very active in organizations which supported humane causes and devoted most of her life to helping animals have a better life. She supported WARDS, an organization to help laboratory animals; Fayette SPCA; Western PA Humane Society; Beaver County Humane Society; Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of U.S.; The Digit Fund; and the American Bluebird Society. Ruth would like to be remembered as one who loved man not less but nature more. Ruth was a world traveler who visited every continent except Antarctica. She cherished her friendships with people from all over the world. At her request, her body has been donated to the Human Gift Registry at West Virginia University. She will be interred at a later date in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Bullskin Township. Memorials may be sent to any humane organization, the Leukemia Society, or Albert Gallatin Hospice.
