Edwin J. Santa, 83, died Monday, May 7, 2001, in UPMC Passavant. He was born Dec. 9, 1917, in Pittsburgh, son of Stephen A. and Elizabeth (Maykranz) Santa. He had been employed as a machinist for Jackson Gear Company for 43 years and was a veteran of World War II. He had served in the U.S. Army in Co. I Motor Battalion, Headquarters and Service Group, Pacific Forces. He was a member of St. Teresa of Avila, Ross. Survived by his wife, Alberta Hayton Santa; a son, Rick E. Santa of Robinson; a daughter, Sheri DeOrio of Ross; two grandchildren, Chelsea and Rick DeOrio of Ross; a brother, Stephen Santa of West View. Preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Voight. Friends received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in H.P. BRANDT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1032 Perry Highway, Ross. Donald J. Spagnolo

Donald J. Spagnolo, 72, of Rostraver Township, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at his residence. He was a son of the late Angelo V. and Mary Spagnolo. Mr. Spagnolo was a prominent businessman in the Pittsburgh area and most recently in the Rostraver Township/Belle Vernon area. Don and his brothers founded the Spring Garden Shop 'n Save supermarket on the North Side of Pittsburgh in 1975 and also Spagnolo Builders Inc. In 1984, Don and his wife, Grace, became one of the original franchisees of the Giant Eagle supermarket chain. He was an active member of the Church of St. Anne in Rostraver Township. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Grace Balestrieri Spagnolo; two sons and daughters-in-law, Angelo V. and Darlene M. Mastandrea Spagnolo of Fayette City and Frank G. and Lisa J. Brier Spagnolo of Rostraver Township; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary V. and George Bashur of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Carl J. and Bernice Spagnolo and James A. Spagnolo and the late Prudy Spagnolo, all of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren, Donald J. Spagnolo II, Daniel G. Bashur, David C. Spagnolo, Jaclyn D. Bashur, Christopher J. Bashur, Tiffany L. Spagnolo and Travis C. Spagnolo. He was a beloved brother-in-law to Mario and Catherine Balestrieri, Joseph and Dorothy Camarda, Thomas and Anna Balestrieri, Ms. Rose M. Balestrieri and the late Antoinette and Mario Machi, all of Pittsburgh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sara V. Trueman; and an infant brother, Anthony Spagnolo. Friends will be received Wednesday from 1 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Sweeney Plan/Rostraver Township. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at noon in the Church of St. Anne, Rostraver Township, with the Rev. Ronald L. Simboli as celebrant. Sharon Jean Kee, 60, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, in Whidbey (state of Washington) General Hospital following an extended illness. She was born Dec. 8, 1940, in Mt. Vernon, a daughter of Glenn and Thelma Burrelle of Kennywick. Mrs. Kee had lived in Anchorage, Alaska, Klamath Falls, Vale, Oregon, Renton, Kennydale and Bryn Mawr. She attended Renton and Oak Harbor high schools, graduating from Oak Harbor in 1968. On Jan. 12, 1959, she married Lanny B. Kee of Ardara, in Bryn Mawr. They were stationed in Argentia, NFLD, Sanford, Fla., Guam and Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. She was employed by Boeing in Renton and in data processing at NAS, Whidbey Island, as a computer operator for 22 years, then transferred to the Naval Hospital in 1990 as a computer specialist. She was a Civil Service Employee of the Quarter in 1991. She retired Nov. 7, 1997. Mrs. Kee was a past mother adviser and advisory board member of the Coupeville Assembly #67 Order of Rainbow for Girls, Rainbow Grand Cross of Honor, and a member of Hatasu Temple #1, Daughters of the Nile. She served three terms as Worthy Matron of Tula Chapter, Coupeville, Order of the Eastern Star; and was a past president of the Northwest Line Officers Club. She was appointed deputy instructor of the Grand Chapter of Washington Order of the Eastern Star in 1992 and 1993. Mrs. Kee was also appointed grand chaplain of the Grand Chapter of Washington Order of the Eastern Star in 1996 and 1997. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kee is survived by her husband, Lanny, of Oak Harbor, Wash.; children, Kimberlee White of Oak Harbor, Deborah Allen of Everett and Lanny Kee of Keller, Texas; grandchildren, Nicole and Jennifer White, Michaela and Ryan Kee and Kayley Allen; a sister, Susan Weihe of Auburn; and a niece, Lindsay Weihe. Interment in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Oak Harbor, Wash. Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Lillian "Lil" (Cardoni) Zimmerman, 75, of White Valley, died Monday, May 7, 2001. She was born Jan. 5, 1926, in White Valley, a daughter of the late Paul and Mildred (Rozina) Cardoni. Lil was a lifetime member of the Emanuel Reformed Church of the United Church of Christ (Hill's Church), Export, and the White Valley Firemen's Ladies Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Zimmerman, in 1992. Surviving are a daughter, Cindy Laurica and her husband, Joe, of McCullough; four sons, Paul Cardoni of White Valley, Dennis Cardoni and his wife, Jeannie, of Ohio, James Zimmerman and his wife, Wendy, of Export and Randy Zimmerman and his wife, Robbie, of White Valley; a sister, Margaret "Molly" Moose of Export; 10 grandchildren, Ginger, Dustin, Tanya, Samantha, Joey, Robbie, Amanda, David, Cody and Kyle; a great-grandson, Bailey; and a niece, Debbie Hopper. Mary Dolores Bronder, 55, of Woodstock, Ga., formerly of Blairsville, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, in Woodstock. She was born Dec. 8, 1945, a daughter of the late Edward and Cecelia Bronder. Mary enjoyed collecting and selling antiques. She was employed as a social worker for 32 years, most recently at Torrance State Hospital. She is survived by a daughter, Julia Kniedler of Woodstock; five sisters, C.C. English, Marjorie McTail, Genevieve Harman, Virginia Roth and Beth Mangan; a brother, Steve Bronder; and many nieces and nephews. Gabrielle Laflamme Harvey, 85, of Lawrenceville, Ga., died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001. She was born in Manchester, N.H., and attended LaMajoline School in Switzerland during her sophomore year in high school and became fluent in French. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1937. She, her husband Ed and her daughter Sue moved from Ohio to Mt. Lebanon in 1956, and she took graduate courses in French at the University of Pittsburgh in the late 1960s. Gabrielle was given a position as lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh and taught French there for 11 years, retiring in 1980. Upon the death of her husband, Edwin Wright Harvey, in 1981, she moved to Lawrenceville, Ga., to be near her family. Survivors include a daughter, Suzette Mancini and husband Robert; two sisters, Louise Muehlhausen and husband Robert, and Germain Dozois, all of Lawrenceville; and two grandchildren, Allison Mancini of Chicago, Ill., and Drew Mancini of Lawrenceville. Gabrielle was a devotee of the arts, including memberships with the High Museum of Art, the Atlanta Ballet, the Atlanta Opera, the Metropolitan Opera and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. A private family service will be held Thursday.
