John Homer, 87, of Smithton, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, in Mon Valley Hospital Inc., Carroll Township. He was born Feb. 18, 1914, in New York, a son of the late Michael and Pauline Homer. Mr. Homer was a coal miner, having retired from Republic Steel and Banning Four. He was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Rostraver Township, where he served as a trustee and deacon, and was a member of the Men's Class. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers Union. He is survived by a son, James W. Homer of Florida; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and David Jacobs of Smithton; two sisters, Mary Pleva of Dawson and Ann Simzisko of Jacobs Creek; four grandchildren, David W., Daniel L. and Christopher M. Jacobs and Claudia Homer; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Belle (Walker) Homer, on Jan. 29, 1998; and three brothers, Stanley, Peter and Michael Homer. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Sweeney Plan/Rostraver Township. Family and friends will meet for a service Friday at 11 a.m. in the Olive Branch Baptist Church, Rostraver Township, with the Rev. Norman Melser officiating. Interment will follow in the Olive Branch Cemetery, Rostraver Township.

Wanda A. Morra, 82, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, in UPMC Passavant. Mrs. Morra was vice president and treasurer for Morr-Craft Products, Inc. She was born in Bishop, Pa., on March 23, 1919, daughter of William and Bessie Janis Kavecki. Surviving are two daughters, Kathy E. Ackerman of Edmond, Okla., and Karen C. Morra of McCandless; two brothers, William F. Kavecki and Edward S. "Dutch" Kavecki, both of McCandless; also her dearest friend, Rita Diethrich. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Morra, and her sister, Helen C. Baldwin. Friends received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the SIMONS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 7720 Perry Highway, Ross. Services will be in the chapel of the funeral home Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Allegheny County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Morris, 86, of Butler, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, in Butler Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 26, 1914, in Bolivar, the daughter of the late Francis Elliott Robinson and Rebecca Hammond. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America, the Butler Gideon Auxiliary and the Elizabeth Circle. Survivors include a son, Larry G. Morris of Boulder City, Nev.; a daughter, Mrs. Randall J. (Diane) Hixson of Springfield, Va.; a brother, John W. Robinson of Johnstown; a sister, Mrs. Robert L. (Anna Brett) Brown of Jupiter, Fla.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Fred C. Morris, on Nov. 25, 1986; an infant son; and a brother. Friends were received Tuesday at the THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME INC., 124 E. North St., Butler. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America, 420 N. Main St., Butler, PA 16001, followed by interment
