Agnes G. Sefcheck Marchewka, 91, formerly of Everson, died Sunday morning, Nov. 7, 1999, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born Jan. 5, 1908, in Owensdale, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Siwula (Sczwczyk) Sefcheck. Agnes was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Everson, and the church's Holy Rosary Society. She was a member of the Everson Senior Citizens Organization. Agnes was well-known for her crocheting of afghans, slippers and scarfs, and was an avid bingo player. Agnes leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Genevieve E. Shumar and her husband, Jack, of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Walter L. "Muff" Marchewka of Connellsville; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elizabeth Zimmerman of Pittsburgh, Bridget Marchewka of Connellsville, and Helen Treacy of Mt. Pleasant; and a brother, Joseph Sefcheck and his wife, Marge, of Johnstown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leo W. Marchewka, on Nov. 1, 1973; a son, Thomas Marchewka, in 1996; three brothers, Peter Sefcheck, on Oct. 27, 1969, Walter P. Sefcheck, on Nov. 18, 1976, and Andrew Sefcheck, on Jan. 4, 1995; and a sister, Dorothy Hrimnak, in July of 1998. Agnes' family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph R.C. Church, Everson, with the Rev. Dennis A. Bogusz, as principal celebrant, and the Revs. Francis Lesniowski and Michael W. Matusak con-celebrating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph R.C. Parish Cemetery, Everson. St. Joseph Holy Rosary Society will recite the rosary Tuesday at 2 p.m. and a parish wake service will be held at 8 p.m., both in the funeral home.
Anna Mary "Pat" McGann-Echement
Anna Mary "Pat" McGann-Echement, passed away Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Country Meadows, Bridgeville, where she had been a resident since 1993, after the passing of her second husband, Roy Echement. Mary Pat, as she was known, was born Feb. 27, 1914, to O.E. and Florence Hartman, near Frostburg, Md. She was raised in Connellsville, where she married F.J. "Mack" McGann in 1934, and moved to Latrobe, where she raised two sons, Jim, who lives in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and who has three daughters and four grandchildren; and Neil, who lives in Titusville, Fla., and has two children. After "Mack" McGann passed away, Mary Pat moved to Pittsburgh and trained to become a nurse's aide in acute care, and retired from St. Clair Hospital in Mt. Lebanon in 1981. F. Paul Farren, of Jefferson Hills, formerly of East Pittsburgh, on Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999. He was an employee of Bettis Laboratory in West Mifflin. He was a longtime volunteer for St. Agnes Athletic Association, North Huntingdon. Husband of Paula J. (Cerqua) Farren; father of Gregory P. and his wife, Christine, of Madison, Pa., and Scott M. of Maryland; and brother of Mary Pat Chizmar of South Carolina, Kathleen Johnson of North Huntingdon and John of Coraopolis. Mary Ballas Gombos, 93, of West Mifflin, on Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999. Beloved wife of the late Paul Gombos. Daughter of the late Paul and Anna Ballas. Mother of Edward B. of Gillhall, Pa., Thomas of Venice, Fla., John of West Mifflin, Robert of Lewistown, Pa., and the late Paul and George Gombos. Sister of Anna Chervanak of Whitaker. Also, 15 granddaughters and two grandsons; 10 great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters; a great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews. Family received Monday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the JAMES F. Elizabeth Jane (Kramer) Grise, 73, of Wilkinsburg, on Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999. Wife of Roy C. Grise; mother of Ronald Kramer Sr. of North Braddock and Marcia Lydon of Butler; sister of Daniel Nania of Penn Hills, the late Joseph J. Nania and the late Mary Agnes Ruess; and grandmother of Kimberly and Elizabeth Kramer, Ronald Kramer Jr. and Rehanna Lydon. Ronald E. Howard
Ronald E. Howard, 63, of Holiday Park Drive, Plum, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh. Born June 22, 1936, in New Kensington, he had been a resident of Plum most of his life. Mr. Howard was a 1954 graduate of Plum High School and a Navy veteran during the Korean conflict, where he attained the rank of Boiler Maker, 2nd Class. He was employed for 30 years by the H.J. Heinz Co. of Pittsburgh as an instrumentation technician, retiring in June of 1998. Mr. Howard was a member of Plum Creek Lodge Free and Accepted Masons. He enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Donna Eiler Howard; a son, Daniel C. Howard of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Mrs. John (Roni S.) Mozina of Washington Township; five grandchildren; and three sisters, Dorothy Keibler and Mrs. Leroy (Doris) Keaton, both of Plum, and Mrs. Newton (Hetty) Wilson of Upper Burrell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Blanche McLaughlin Howard. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., a family-owned and -operated funeral home, 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Frank DeLuce, pastor of the Unity United Presbyterian Church of Murrysville, will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. Mother of Theresa and her husband, Emil Begg, of Wilkins Township, Roger Sr. and his wife, Mary Brush, of North Huntingdon and the late Phillip. Grandmother of George Begg, Laura Begg, Kathy Kitterman, R.T. Brush Jr. and Tina Brush Kubic. Also two great-grandchildren. Mary Sue (Bovington) Johnson
Mary Sue (Bovington) Johnson, 70, of Mt. Lebanon, died peacefully at home on Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Dec. 4, 1928, to the late John R. and Helen Pettibone. She graduated from Wheaton College in Massachusetts in 1951; married C. Bayard Johnson Jr. in 1958; and settled in Pittsburgh in 1971. She is survived by her loving husband, Bayard; daughters and sons-in-law, Cam and Greg Allen of Mt. Lebanon and Gail Johnson and Tim Elgren of Clinton, N.Y.; daughter, Molly Johnson of Seattle, Wash.; son and daughter-in-law, Bayard and Karen Johnson of St. Louis, Mo.; and six grandchildren, Robby, Brad, Scott, Ruth, Ben and Bay. She is also survived by her brother, John R. Bovington of Cleveland, Ohio. She was a dedicated, active grandmother, a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church and active in numerous church and community activities, including Southminster choir, women's hand bell team and AFS student exchange. Her family gratefully acknowledges the outpouring of support throughout the past few months from friends near and far, as well as the caring guidance and support of the Family Hospice. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 13, at 9:30 a.m. at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Mt. Lebanon. Sue expressed wishes that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Southminster Presbyterian Church music program, Mt. Lebanon, Pa., the Mt. Lebanon Public Library or Family Hospice, Mt. Lebanon.
Ernest Molnar
Ernest Molnar, 78, of Shaler Township, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at the Manor Care Nursing Center, Green Tree. Born Sept. 6, 1921, in Budapest, Hungary, he was the son of the late Joseph and Maria (Badish) Molnar. He was a retired foreign language teacher in the North Hills School District. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecelia P. (Bendzsuk) Molnar. He is survived by two daughters, Cecelia M. Kelly and Linda K. Molnar. Charles L. Sayles
Charles L. Sayles, 74, of Elizabeth Township, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, in McKeesport Hospital. He was born June 7, 1925, in Shaner, a son of the late Burt and Pearl Fellabaum Sayles. He was a retired employee of the G.C. Murphy Co., McKeesport; a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy; and a member of the Central Highlands United Methodist Church, Elizabeth Township, and the Shaner Gun Club. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Wyman. He is survived by his wife, Clada E. Fontanesi Sayles; two sons, Gerald Sayles of Elizabeth Township and Dwayne Sales of Harrisburg; two grandchildren; three sisters, June Sellman of Elizabeth Township, Sarah Shoaf of Florida, and Alice Miller of Ohio; also nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev.
