Anna Mary "Pat" McGann-Echement
Anna Mary "Pat" McGann-Echement passed away Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Country Meadows, Bridgeville, where she had been a resident since 1993, after the passing of her second husband, Roy Echement. Mary Pat, as she was known, was born Feb. 27, 1914, to O.E. and Florence Hartman, near Frostburg, Md. She was raised in Connellsville, where she married F.J. "Mac" McGann in 1934, and moved to Latrobe, where she raised two sons, Jim, who lives in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and who has three daughters and four grandchildren; and Neil, who lives in Titusville, Fla., and has two children. After "Mac" McGann passed away, Mary Pat moved to Pittsburgh and trained to become a nurse's aide in acute care, and retired from St. Clair Hospital in Mt. Lebanon in 1981. McGinty, 77, passed away Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, after a short illness. Regis was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, and a retired machinist with Cooper Industries in Grove City, where he was employed for 33 years. Regis was an avid hunter and fisherman, as well as an accomplished wildlife and outdoor artist. He was also a lifetime member of the Mercer American Legion Post 159. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Evelyn McGinty of Grove City; their children, Mary Ellen Collins and her husband, John, of Phoenix, Ariz., Carol McGinty of Pittsburgh, Kevin McGinty and his wife, Carlie, of Pittsburgh, and Susan McGinty of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Patrick, Emily, John and Anne McGinty, all of Pittsburgh; and his sister and two brothers, Katherine Chmura of Meadville, George McGinty of Melbourne, Fla., and Eugene McGinty of New Canaan, Conn. Mr. McGinty was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Mary Schiestle McGinty; and a sister and two brothers, Dorothy Gregory of Grove City, Donald McGinty and Francis McGinty, both of Detroit, Mich. Charles J. "Skip" Remmy II, an avid sports fan who coached Baldwin to its first state high school hockey championship, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000.
A Pleasant Hills resident, Mr. Remmy was raised in Brentwood.
Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he was a partner in Construction Consultant Services and a 23-year employee of PennDOT.
He was the son of the late Charles and Ann Remmy.
Mr. Remmy is survived by his wife, Jean Kirk Remmy; daughter Robyn and her husband, Steve Schmidt of Chicago; son Jason of Pleasant Hills; and sister Bonnie Fleming of Whitehall.

Emmett Filmore Tweedy
Emmett Filmore Tweedy, 91, of 2036 Nursery Road, Clearwater, Fla., died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, in the Largo (Fla.) Medical Center. He was born Aug. 6, 1908, in Wilkins Township, a son of the late Robert S. and Elsie Gertrude Moyer Tweedy. Before retiring to Florida in 1972, he was a teacher, principal, and track and football coach in the Turtle Creek School District for 40 years. He graduated from Westminster College in 1931 with a B.S. in chemistry, and earned an M.Ed. from the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to track and field, he played football in high school and college, and was inducted into the Westminster College Towering Titans Hall of Fame. He was also an outstanding gymnast and taught the sport in addition to his other school duties. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Clearwater, the Masonic Blue Lodge 613, Syria Shrine Temple, and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, all in Pennsylvania. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Sholl Tweedy, and his second wife, Dorothy Bower Tweedy. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Daniel Roy and William O. Tweedy; and by sisters, Margaret Tweedy and Thelma Tweedy Wolak. In addition to his wife of 17 years, Louise Collins Howland Tweedy, he is survived by his daughter, Linda T. Kosak; his son-in-law, Carl C. Kosak; his grandson, Christopher C. Kosak; his brothers, Clarence Wesley and Robert S. Tweedy; his sisters, Gertrude Schake, Audrey L. Comer and Betty J. Freise; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held Saturday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m. in Early's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Concord, Va. HERITAGE FUNERAL SERVICE AND CREMATORY, 427 Graves Mill Road, Lynchburg, Va., in charge of arrangements.
John "Dick" Smiley of Whitehall died on Dec. 2, 1999.
He was the husband of the late Jean Smiley, father of Richard and James Smiley and brother of Virginia LeBauda and Carolyn (Cid) Gildroy.
Mr. Smiley is survived by two grandchildren, Richard and Terri; and four great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Donovan, Keith and Logan.
Friends were received at John F. Slater Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held at Whitehall United Presbyterian Church.

DeSales Jagmin
Sister Mary DeSales Jagmin, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of the providence of God in Whitehall, died on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000.
She was 87and had been in religious life over 71 years.
Sister DeSales was born as Dominica Jagmin to Appolinary and Eva Jagmin in Midland, Md. on Nov. 25, 1912.
She served in many mission schools throughout the United States, including St. Francis Academy and St. Casimir in Pittsburgh.
Many of her years in the classroom were devoted to teaching music. She served as organist of her Franciscan community, and taught music and piano to many students.
Sister DeSales is survived by her brother, Eugene in Denver, Co.; her brother-in-law, John Driscoll in Pittsburgh, as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers and two sisters.
Burial Mass was on Feb. 5 in Mary Immaculate Chapel on the motherhouse grounds in Whitehall.
It was followed by interment
at St. Casimir Cemetery.
Charles Jacob Rhein of West Mifflin died on March 22, 2000.
He was the husband of Ruth Yeager Rhein and the father of Judith Polczyn-ski and Scott and David Rhein.
Mr. Rhein was the grandfather of Eric Polczynsi, Jenna Rhein and Jacob Rhein.
He was the son of the late Henry and Marie Rhein.
He also was brother of the late Henry E. Rhein.

Theresa M. "Tess" (Kappel) Shanahan of Whitehall died on March 22, 2000. She was 65.
She was the wife of Robert Shanahan, mother of Mary Jo, Jack (and his wife, Chris), Gary, Barbara Riley (and her husband, Dan), Joseph (and his wife, Kimberly), Thomas (and his wife, Cheryl), the late Robert Shanahan Jr. and the late James Shanahan.
Mrs. Shanahan was the sister of Laverne Oatman, Anna Mae Wurthner, Regis Kappel and the late Grace Andregg.
She was the "Me-Me" of Jonathan, Lauren, Katie, Ashley, Meghan, Alyssa, James, Justin and Tommy.
She also will be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Emma Ruth (Eber) Hinch of Whitehall died on Aug. 8, 2000.
Mrs. Hinch was the wife of Harry Hinch. She was the mother of Harry W., John, Jeffrey and Robert Hinch. She was grandmother of Harry W. Hinch Jr. and Linda, Laura and Alison Hinch.
She was sister to Mary Lindke.

John A. "Jack" Keyes of Whitehall died Aug. 12, 2000.
Mr. Keyes was the husband of Elinor (Paulie) Keyes and the father of Karen Keyes.
