Obituaries by Location

Vecchio
Mark Vecchio, 45, of Monroeville died April 2, 2003.
A 1975 graduate of Gateway High School, he had his own Nationwide Insurance agency in Monroeville when he was only 21 years old.
He is survived by his parents, Joseph and Tecky Murray Vecchio of Satellite Beach, Fla.; two sons, Christopher Vecchio of Monroeville and Anthony Vecchio of Bluffton, S.C.; two brothers, Edward Vecchio and his wife, Erin, of Penn Hills and Joseph Vecchio of Satellite Beach; a sister, Diane Beresford, and her husband, Mark, of Monroeville; and nine nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at Jobe Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. in Monroeville. Mass was celebrated at North American Martyrs Church in Monroeville.
Memorial contributions can be made to Vecchio Children’s Fund, c/o Jobe Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 3961 Monroeville Blvd., Monroeville, PA 15146.

Branch
Madeline Robinson Branch, 86, of Sewickley, died in Sewickley Valley Hospital on March 31, 2001.
A service will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Triumph Baptist Church.
Interment will follow at Sewickley Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 28, 1915, in Leetsdale, the daughter of Ernest Robinson and Celia Russell.
She worked for a private family in Sewickley.
She was an avid gardener, and she enjoyed her flowers. She was an excellent cook.
Mrs. Branch was a member of Triumph Baptist Church of Sewickley.
During WWII, she worked at the American Bridge Co. as a welder.
She was predeceased by her husband, Curtis Branch Sr.
She is survived by her son, Curtis Branch Jr. of Aleppo Township; one brother, George Robinson of Beaver, Pa.; two sisters, Frances Byrd of Dayton, Ohio, and Betty Robinson Jones of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were made by Richard D. Cole Funeral Home, Sewickley.

Crighton
Clifford Crighton, born in Birkenhead, England, on Sept. 28, 1924, died in Sewickley on March 28, 2001.
As a patriot in England, during WWII, he served as a civil volunteer in the fire brigade during the air raids.
He helped teach navigation skills to the young pilots for the Royal Air Force, and he worked tirelessly in helping to repair damaged battleships.
In 1962, he immigrated to the U.S. and became a citizen in 1978.
In 1976, he founded the C&E Plastics Inc. with his wife Esther.
He was a pioneer in the design and fabrications of thermo-plastic tanks and equipment for the steel industry.
C&E Plastics employs more than 30 people.
He is survived by his wife Esther, seven children, 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one sister.
Copeland's Moon Township handled the arrangements.

Hamlen
A memorial service will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at 7 p.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Broad Street and Frederick Avenue, Sewickley, for Mary Cupper Hamlen.
Mrs. Hamlen, 74, died at home on March 29, 2001.
She was born and raised in Detroit where she attended The Liggett School.
After graduating from Wellesley college, she lived briefly in Boston before moving to New York City.
In 1958, she married and relocated to Sewicley.
She served as the leader for her daughter's Girl Scout Troop and was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.
She was also a member of the Junior League of Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Hamlen was an office manager retired from a physician's office.
She is survived by three children: James Hamlen, Barbara Andrews and Sarah Hamlen; and two grandchildren, Edwin Rosales Andrew and Nicholas Keith Hamlen.
There was no visitation, and interment was private.
Arrangements were handled by Richard D. Cole Funeral Home, Beaver Street, Sewickley.

Pellegrini
Mary Pellegrini, 64, of Emsworth, died on March 31, 2001, in Bellevue Suburban Hospital.
She was born July 18, 1936, to the late Anthony and Elizabeth (Williamson) Graig in Sewickley.
She was the wife of the late Frank Pellegrini and mother to Robert C. Schockley of Emsworth, Rebecca and her husband Robert Haas of Ben Avon, sister of Richard Graig of Beaufort, S.C., and grandmother to Nicole Haas.
A faithful child of Christ foremost, she was devoted member of Christ Church at Grove Farm in Ohio Township.
A memorial service was held at the church yesterday.

Royster
Elizabeth Rutan Royster, 94, died at her home on March 22, 2001. She was born in Sewickley, the daughter of Martha (Fleming) and noted architect Frank E. Rutan.
She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years Hubert ("Peanut") A. Royster Jr., M.D.; her sister, Martha Rutan Brown; and her brother, Frank E. Rutan Jr.
Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Royster, and Martha Williams and her husband David; and four grandchildren.
She was a first cousin of Frank ("Bud") E. Richardson Jr., who is survived by his wife Rosamound Richardson of Sewickley.
A memorial service will be held Saturday in Maine.

Westerwick
Hilda Westerwick, 82, a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh and most recently of Valley Care Masonic Home, died on March 27, 2001, at Sewickley Valley Hospital.
She was born in Kilbuck Township on Jan. 10, 1919, to the late John and Ida (Adomeit) Westerwick.
Ms. Westerwick was a retired elevator operator for Allegheny General Hospital.
She is survived by her brother, Hugo Westerwick of Pittsburgh; and two nieces and one nephew.
Interment was in United Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Copeland's Sewickley-Irvine Chapel.

Frey
Arlene C. Frey, 67, of Sewickley, died at her home on April 21, 2001.
She was born Dec. 23, 1933, the daughter of the late George Robert and Rosanna (Boyer) Miller.
Mrs. Frey was a retired secretary at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Sewickley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Frey, and one sister, Josephine Miller.
She is survived by three children: Cynthia Wilson and her husband David of Coraopolis; Raymond Frey and his wife Angela of York, Pa.; and Timothy Frey and his wife Teri of West View.
She is also survived by four sisters: Elizabeth "Betty" Hemperly of Annville, Pa.; Elsie Grumbine of Lebanon, Pa.; Marie "Sue" Ream of Lancaster, Pa.; Sandra Itkor of South Carolina; and four brothers: Carl Miller of Harrisburg, George Miller of Lancaster, James Miller of Lebanon and David "Sonny" Miller of Orlando, Fla.
Mrs. Frey is also survived by two grandchildren, Jessica and Cory.
A service was held on Monday. Burial was private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Forbes Hospice, 6655 Frankstown Road, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15217
Copeland's-Sewickley handled the arrangements.

Causey
Glynn Walters Causey, 81, of Bell Acres, died April 20, 2001, in Sewickley Valley Hospital.
He was born in Sewickley on July 7, 1919, the son of the late Paul and Emma (McDougall) Causey.
Mr. Causey was a self-employed plumber.
He was a member of Little Hill Methodist Church and the American Legion Sewickley Valley Post #4.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having received a Purple Heart, The Bronze Star and the Bronze Arrowhead.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Ruth Motter Causey; and children: Linda Causey Clarke and husband David; Richard and wife Susan; Terry Causey and wife Patti; Timothy and wife Melissa; and Steven Causey
He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild and brother, Charles Oliver Causey of Seattle.
Memorials may be made to The Little Hill Church Music Fund.
A service was held on Monday. Burial was in the Little Hill Church Cemetery.
Arrangesments wre made by Richard D. Cole Funeral Home, Sewickley.
