Cecelia (Preininger) Sambold, 90, a life-long resident of Coraopolis, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at St. Margaret Hospital.
She was born in Coraopolis on Aug. 11, 1912, to the late Francis (Frank) and Cecelia (Urban) Preininger. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John J. Sambolt Jr., on March 16, 1998.
Mrs. Sambolt was a member of St. Joseph Church and a homemaker. She devoted her entire life to her children, grandchildren and family.
She is survived by her five children, John Sambolt and his wife Pearl, of Coraopolis, Marie Aiello, of Moon, Cecelia Eisert and her husband Richard, of Erie, Margaret Hughes and her husband Frank, of New Wilmington, and James Sambolt and his wife Christine, of South Park. Also, 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Georgie Hepler; her four sisters, Alfreda Tesla, Elsie Weber, Amelia Mahr and Mathilda Zieger; her three brothers, Frank, Ed and George Preininger.
Funeral arrangements were coordinated by Copeland’s Coraopolis, 867 Fifth Avenue. Funeral Mass was at St. Joseph Church with Father Malcolm McDonald officiating. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery.
Szost
Henry Szost, 84, a life-long resident of Groveton, passed away on Monday, Oct. 21, at Mariner Health Care of West Hills.
Mr. Szost was born in Groveton on Aug. 29, 1918, to the late Andrew and Sophia (Reczkowski) Szost.
Mr. Szost was a member of St. Joseph Church, VFW Post 402, Catholic War Vets and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He retired in 1981 from Equipment Corp., Groveton, where he had been a supervisor.
Mr. Szost is survived by four sisters, Mary C. Uranker, of Groveton, Stephanie Kish, of Coraopolis, Sophia L. Szost, of Groveton, and Catherine Padgett, of Hopewell.
He was preceded in death by five sisters and brothers, Stella Stiney, Walter Szost, Helen Bucka, Annette Szost and Robert A. Szost.
Visitation was at Copeland’s Coraopolis, 867 Fifth Avenue, where a VFW Service was held.
Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Joseph Church with Father Malcolm McDonald officating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors.
Dudek
Sister Mary Helen Anna Dudek, 91, of Coraopolis, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, from respiratory problems at South Side Hospital.
She was born in 1911, in Glassmere, Pa., a daughter of the late Stanislaus and Marianne Kosiba Dudek.
Sister Dudek was in her 76th year as a member of the Felician Sisters of Coraopolis. She was a member of St.Mary of Czestochowa Parish in New Kensington, from which she entered the Felician Sisters in 1926. She was invested in the habit of the order in 1927 and made her first profession of vows in 1928. In 1934, she pronounced her final vows as a Felician Sister.
A life-long educator, she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Duquesne University.
She spent more than 40 years as a teacher and principal in the Catholic elementary schools of the dioceses in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Greensburg and Steubenville.
In 1971, she was elected as the provincial superior of the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Province of the Felician Sisters in Coraopolis. Upon completion of her term of office, she began a 19-year ministry to the residents of St. Anne Home in Greensburg as receptionist and pastoral care visitor.
In 1996, declining health caused her to take up residence in the provincial house.
She is survived by a sister, Helen Dudek, of Arnold; a brother, Henry, of Lower Burrell; a sister-in-law, Angela Dudek, of New Kensington, and nephews.
Friends were received at Sanvito Funeral Home, 1316 Fourth Ave., Coraopolis. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph Church in Coraopolis. Interment followed at Felician Cemetery in Moon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Felician Sisters Renovation Fund, 1500 Woodcrest Ave., Coraopolis, or a charity of the donor’s choice
Kerin
Audrey B. Kerin, 68, of Findlay Township, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, at home.
She was born Dec. 20, 1933, in Crafton, a daughter of the late Joseph G. and Margaret E. Christ.
Mrs. Kerin was a homemaker who enjoyed volunteering in the community. She was a former member of the Moon Run and Fair Hopes volunteer fire departments’ ladies auxiliaries. She was also a member of the Emblem Club of the Fair Hope Elks Lodge.
She also enjoyed dancing, rollerskating, playing cards and singing.
Mrs. Kerin is survived by three daughters, Susan Ann Franc, of Robinson, Mary Guzak, of Monaca, and Colleen Kerin, of Coraopolis; three sons, Daniel, of Vero Beach, Fla., Michael, of Fairhope, Ala., and William, of Oakdale; two sisters, Nina Blystone, of Findlay and Josephine Scott, of Fairhope, Ala.; and one brother, Charles Christ, of Pocatello, Id.,
Friends were received at Joseph Somma Funeral Home, Robinson Township, and interment
was at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Nam
Chul H. Nam, 78, of Moon Township, died Monday, Nov. 4, at St. Clair Hospital.
He was born March 21, 1924, in Korea, a son of the late Hui Yang and Chong Jun Nam.
Mr. Nam was formerly of Indianapolis, Ind., and Michigan.
Mr. Nam was a retired security officer for the Korean government.
He is survived by his wife, Do H. (Kwang) Nam; four children, Sang Pok Nam, of Virginia Beach, Va., Chong Suk Nam, of Palaceside Park, N.J., Sang Kyu Nam, of Moon Township and Yun Sik Nam, also of Moon; and seven grandchildren.
Friends were received at Copeland Funeral Home, 867 Fifth Ave., Coraopolis, were a funeral service was held with Rev. Eun Soo Lee officiating. Burial was in Sewickley Cemetery.
Smolar
Irene Turzai Smolar, 79, formerly of Coraopolis, died Monday, Nov. 4, at Life Care of Columbia in South Carolina.
She was born Sept. 4, 1923, in Coraopolis, a daughter of the late John and Helen Lambert Turzai.
Mrs. Smolar and her husband were owners of a grocery store. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and was a Coraopolis High graduate.
She is survived by her husband, John B.; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Donald Burckart, of Blythewood, S.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Emil and John Smolar, of New Brighton; and a granddaughter.
Visitation was held at Copeland’s Funeral Home, Coraopolis, Father Malcolm McDonald officiating. Entombment was in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in her name to American Diabetes Association or a local hospice.
Allen
Ronald V. Allen, 66, of Moon Township, died Sunday, Nov. 17, at Sewickley Valley Hospital.
He was born April 7, 1936, in Carnegie, a son of the late Vaughn and Grace B. Wagner Allen.
Allen was a union plumber for 34 years with Local 27, Robinson Township, and retired in 1985.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Ann Powell Allen; four children, Jane Skleton and her husband, Mark, of Hopewell Township, Ronda McElhaney, of Moon Township, Russ Allen and his wife, Diana, of Chippewa, and Darlene Wagner and her husband, Todd, of Cheswick; five grandchildren, Nikki, Taylor, Christopher, Zachary and Cassandra; and one sister, Nancy Crouse, of Georgia.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Bonnie Jean Allen, and a brother, Edward Allen.
Copeland’s Coraopolis handled funeral arrangements with Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Sterling officiating.
Burial in Chartiers Cemetery was private.
Cook
Lawrence Dale Cook, 50, of Pittsburgh, died Wednesday, Nov. 20 in UPMC Shadyside.
He was born Nov. 3, 1952, in McKees Rocks, a son of Raymond R. Cook, of Clinton, and the late Phyllis M. Mouck Cook.
He worked as a mail clerk for PNC Bank.
Survivors include: two sisters, Donna R. Hart and Barbara A. Cook, both of Pittsburgh; and a nephew, Oliver Lane.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Lee Cook.
Moody Funeral Home, Clinton, handled arrangements.
Cremation took place with interment
at Hopewell-Hebron Cemetery.
Huff
Frances D. Huff, 63, of Aliquippa, died Sunday, Nov. 17, at UPMC Aliquippa Hospital.
She was born Nov. 25, 1938, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Modesto and Nicoletta Gugliussa Capalbo.
Mrs. Huff was an assistant librarian at Robert Morris University for 16 years at the Moon campus.
Survivors include: her husband, Russell J. Huff Sr., of Aliquippa; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Russell J. Huff Jr. and his wife, Jane, of Castle Shannon, David M. Huff and his wife, Sharon, of Cleveland, Ohio, Scott E. Huff, of Independence Township, and Erich S. Huff, of Aliquippa; one sister, Mary Ann Manfredi, of McMurray; one brother, Frank J. Capalbo, of Pleasant Hills; and five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Russell J. III, Nichole, Michael and Daniel.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Antoinetta Schnorr.
Copeland’s Moon Township handled funeral arrangements with Pastor John Williams officiating.
Burial was in Mt. Royal Cemetery, Glenshaw.

Miller
Perry K. Miller, Sr., 64, of Moon Township, died Monday, Nov. 18, at Sewickley Valley Hospital.
He was born July 28, 1938, in Barnsville, Ohio, to the late William B. and Anna Stone Miller.
Mr. Miller was a U.S. Army veteran during peacetime, and was an avid bowler and golfer.
He retired in 1995. He was a physical therapist in the Pittsburgh area for 28 years and was chief physical therapist for 18 years at Sewickley Valley Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann Cuomo Miller, of Moon; one son, Perry K. Miller Jr., of Moon; one daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Todd Scanlon, of North Fayette; two grandchildren, Brendan and Tyler Scanlon; and in-laws, Josephine Cuomo Norman, of Columbus, Ohio, Frank Jr., Shirley and Joseph Cuomo, all of Follansbee, W.Va.
Copeland’s Moon Township handled funeral arrangements with Pastor Tim Michaux officiating. Entombment was in Resurrection Cemetery.
