Jeanette Herbert, 85, of Robinson Township, died Wednesday, March 12, at her home.
She was born Sept. 17, 1917, in Metz, W.Va., a daughter of the late Elzie and Mary Ellen Moore.
Mrs. Herbert was a homemaker and enjoyed camping. She spent winters with her husband in Florida.
She was an avid citizen band radio enthusiast and, along with her husband, belonged to a local club. Her handle was Mail Girl.
She was also quite talented when it came to crocheting, baking and sewing.
Survivors include: her husband, Joseph Herbert; three sons, James of McDonald, John of Chippewa and John of Beaver Falls; one daughter, Joan Horvath of Midway; two sisters, Laurestine Hayes of Mannington, W.Va. and Jessie Stiles of New Cumberland, W.Va.; one brother, Paul Moore of Little Orleans, Md.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Joseph; two sisters, Emma Batson and Mary Hayes; and three brothers, Clinton, Harlen and Thurman.
Arrangements were handled by Joseph Somma Funeral Home, Robinson Township.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at Holy Trinity Church with Father William Scholz officiating. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Markovich
Frank Markovich, 73, of North Fayette Township, died Thursday, March 27, at Ohio Valley General Hospital.
He was born April 15, 1929, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Andrew and Anna Markovich.
Mr. Markovich was a postal clerk for U.S. Postal Service for 34 years. Most of that was service at the Pittsburgh main office where he retired in 1990.
As a young man, he played football at Oliver High School.
Later in life, he came to enjoy golf, singing and crossword puzzles.
He served in U.S. Army during Korean War as a corporal.
He will be remembered for generosity and for his philosophy of making one person smile and life is worth living.
Survivors include: one son, Thomas Grayson and his wife, Marirose, of Pittsburgh; one daughter, Donna Pfender of Washington, Pa.; one sister, Margaret Lukich of Ellsworth; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and one companion, Leona Lois Grayson of North Fayette Township.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Albert, Andrew, Anthony and John, and two sisters, Ann and Elsie.
Arrangements were handled Joseph Somma Funeral Home, Robinson Township.
Mass of Christian Burial was at St. Columbkille Church with Father Richard Wesoloski officiating. Burial was in North Side Catholic Cemetery.
Tarquinio
Yolanda Seretti Tarquinio of Stowe Township, died Saturday, March 29.
Survivors include: two children, Pat Tarquinio and his wife, Marcy, of Beaver and Ron Tarquinio and his wife, Harriette, of Louisville, Ky., seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one nephew and four nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis, and one daughter, Betty Dines.
Arrangements were handled by Sanvito’s McKees Rocks.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at Mother of Sorrows Church with Father Paul Householter officiating. Interment was in Resurrection Cemetery.
Wills
William Wills Sr., 78, of Kennedy Township, died Monday, March 17, at St. Clair Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 25, 1924, in Carnegie, a son of the late Claude and Selena Wills.
Mr. Wills was a crane operator for 37 years for J & L Steel Co., Second Avenue, Pittsburgh. He retired in 1982.
He spent 10 more years doing maintenance for ABF Freight Co. when he stopped work in 1992 because of a stroke.
He served in U.S. Army as a private first class in World War II in Normandy, France, Rhineland, Ardennes and central Europe. He was the recipient of a bronze star.
He was active in Carnegie American Legion Post 421 and Carnegie VFW Post 331 where he was a past commander.
Survivors include: one daughter, Mary McMahon of Oakdale; one son, William Wills Jr. of Kennedy Township; four sisters, Wanda Dayton of Gibsonia, Charlotte Dickinson of Allison Park, Leta Rose Downs of Beaver Falls and Selina Loretta Sieben of Florida; four grandchildren, one son-in-law and one daughter-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadette, and five brothers.
Arrangements were handled by Joseph Somma Funeral Home, Robinson Township.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Malachy’s Church and interment
was at St. Mark’s Cemetery.
Bagatini
Alfred Bagatini, 79, of Moon Township, died Wednesday, April 9, at Shadyside Hospital.
He was born Aug. 14, 1923, in Coraopolis, a son of the late Joseph and Edith Montibeller Bagatini.
Mr. Bagatini was employed for 27 years with Codo Manufacturing until his retirement in Jan. 1986.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he received the good conduct medal, distinguished unit badge and European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, six bronze stars and one bronze arrowhead.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary Jane Grannis; three sons, William and his wife, Carol, of South Bend, Ind., Richard and his wife, Beverly, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Gary and his wife, Cheryl, of Moon; and five grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Copeland’s Coraopolis.
Funeral Mass was held at St. Joseph Church with Father Malcolm McDonald officiating. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery with military honors.
VFW Fraternal Service was held with Post 402.
Barlow
Helen Barlow, 81, of Moon Township, died Monday, March 31, at her home.
She was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Bellbridge, Pa., a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Kissell.
Mrs. Barlow was a homemaker and worked for 22 years with St. Regis Paper Co.
She became a dietary worker for 15 years at Ohio Valley General Hospital.
She also enjoyed baking, gardening and being a loving grandmother.
Survivors include: one son, Frank Barlow Jr. of Richmond, Va.; three daughters, Renee Gobao of Moon, Carolyn Holtzer of Center Township and Sandra Valicenti of Moon; one sister, Jucianna McCall of Clairton; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank, John, Joseph and Steve, and one sister, Ann Lehocky.
Arrangements were handled by Joseph Somma Funeral Home, Robinson Township.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Margaret Mary Parish with Pastor Robin Evanish officiating. Interment was held at Holy Souls Cemetery.
Barnett
Emory Barnett, 79, of Cumming, Ga., died Thursday, March 27, at his son’s home.
He was born July 6, 1923, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Emory and Josephine Barnett.
Mr. Barnett served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his tour of duty, he came back to Pittsburgh and found work for five years as an attendant at Jameson Parking facility in downtown.
He then went on to spend 20 years as a mechanic at Corny Phillips Mobil Service Station in Sheraden.
In 1966, he became employed with Knickerbocker Russell Co. in Robinson Township. He became their service manager and retired with them in 1986.
He was a member of American Legion, VFW and Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
In leisure time, he enjoyed fishing and took many trips to the Great Lakes and Canada.
In 1997, he moved to Cumming, Ga. to live with his son and enjoyed many trips to Lake Laner where he continued to fish and boat.
Survivors include: three sons, James of Worcester, Mass., Michael of Portersville, Pa. and Patrick of Cumming, Ga.; one brother, Earl of Burgettstown; one sister, Ruth Glovan of Fort Pierce, Fla.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Edward, one sister, Edna Drudy and a former wife, Mary Barnett.
Arrangements were held by Joseph Somma Funeral Home, Robinson Township, where a Blessing Service was held with Father William Scholz officiating.
Interment was at Holy Souls Cemetery.
Trkula
Thomas Trkula, 68, of Moon Township, died Wednesday, April 9.
He was born Jan. 31, 1935, in Aliquippa, a son of the late Adam and Rosalia Onuska Trkulja.
Mr. Trkula retired from Fisher Control in the late 1970s after 20 years of being a welder. He also retired from the state after working eight years as a toll collector.
He was a member of Coraopolis Elks Club 1090.
Survivors include: his wife, District Justice Shirley Rowe Trkula of Moon; one daughter, Kelli Walters and her husband, Robert, of Imperial; one son, Thomas and his wife, Pattie, of Harrisburg; five grandchildren, four in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred, and two in-laws.
Arrangements were handled by Copeland’s Coraopolis where a service was held with Pastor Jeff Sterling officiating.
Burial followed in Resurrection Cemetery.
Baer
Delores L. (Eckelberry) Baer, 77, formerly of Moon Township, died Monday, Nov. 17, at the Masonic Village at Sewickley.
Mrs. Baer was born Aug. 25, 1926 in Moundsville, W.Va. to the late James H. and Mary (Collmar) Eckelberry. She was a self-employed hairstylist and a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Walter; two sons, Mark E. (Lynn) Baer and Timothy J. (Colleen) Baer of Moon Township; one daughter, Donna J. Kozlik of Moon Township; one brother, James Eckelberry of Hopewell; two sisters, Beverly Price of Crescent and Pam Dray of East Liverpool, Ohio; and five grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Copeland’s of Moon Township.
Burial was at Coraopolis Cemetery.
Bohon
David H. Bohon, 79, of Crescent, died Friday, Nov. 7, at Sewickley Valley Hospital.
Mr. Bohon was born June 30, 1924 in Rowlesburg, W.Va., to the late William Haze and Lottie (Goff) Bohon. He was a retired steelworker from the J&L Steel Co. A veteran of World War II, he served as a private in the U.S. Army. He belonged to the American Legion Post No. 341 of Ambridge and the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 826, both of West Virginia. He had been a resident of the area for 55 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Bohon, Jr.
Survivors include: his wife, Alma; one son, Melvin Bohon of Crescent; three daughters, Judy Cvetkovich of Hopewell Township, Vickie Stark of South Heights and Marcy Joyner of Crescent; two brothers, Paul Pyle of Kingwood, W.Va., and Bill Bohon of Elkins, W.Va.; and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by Moody Funeral Home in Clinton.
